OK, I think I've answered my own questions.  I found a number of segments in 'that book' that must be what I was thinking of.   One of a few being (re: TMD),

No really now, it has been fun so far but this contest is really begining to annoy me. It was fun to have a few jokes about going into the enymy lines and finding clues and whatsoever but come on! We are grownups here or at least most of us are and well the majority here sure acts like it even if they are in their teens! But this IS fishy! I have just returned from my New Years party, my computer was shut for about 6 hourse, I opened the hello page and I got that restriction page again and got it AGAIN when I tried to cast my vote! And just think about it! It`s impossible! We cannot overcome the gap of 1800 votes no matter how much we try! And that is technicly impossible! people have lives of their own, New Years included all sorts of preparations, it`s IMPOSSIBLE to maintaint that gap! Either they get ahead by much more than that or they slack off! But this is definetly a fix up and I`ve had just about enough of this! And it`s not possible for the Blooms to have some sort of secret society, get real! I mean they need the publicity too, they have to talk through some forums or GB! And the Hello poll, I repeat, is NOT listed in more than 3 places by my count! It`s not possible to round up that many fans to vote! hey, even in his IMDB board people were thinking of voting for Alan! And one more thing about Hello! They aren`t going to validate anything! Why do you think we couldn`t find out he totalls from the monthly vote? The votes stayed exactly as they appeared, no one was disqualified, that is just bull****! Susan , you did well in sending that email but don`t get your hopes done! Elaine you are right, it could be a publicity scam after all! I am so curious what would happen if we suddenly STOP voting! I bet my two cents that Blooms votes would suddenly drop as well! But what the heck, I hope I`m just being paranoid! OK, I've stumbled across a tidbit and I'm a bit confused.  Alan's lost love in AABA was named "Stella Maris", was she not? 

I was searching for a particular quote related to TMD tonight, and in this article, I did a double take when I noticed that the character of Maura (the girl taking English lessons from Nina) was played by an actress named Stella Maris. 

What gives??

Good letter, Susan.  If Hello is trying to pull chains, that will at least let them know we are on to them. 

My suggestion is that we continue to try to get AR into first place but if Emily's hunch is right, it could be a losing battle.  So please don't let it get you all down and we will just continue to vote AR as feverishly as we can and at the least keep him in second place.  That ought to give Hello a hint or two.

These Bloomers are something else.  I most definitely think something foul is afoot.....it started last night when they began to pull ahead by about 100 votes every quarter hour.  Somebody in their camp has got an inside track into some sort of trickery. 

Thanks to sue and Barbara for going "undercover" into enemy territory to try and discover their secrets.  But please be careful, you two....we wouldn't want you to get caught.  Who knows what sort of torture they might put you through.  A non-stop loop of pirates and elves, no doubt....while your eyelids are taped open.....*shudder*  Perhaps we can provide you with a capsule of obliviating potion you can bite down on should you be apprehended in the line of duty. 

I think we should just continue on with the voting every 16 minutes (also have my kitchen timer set...much to the annoyance of the rest of my family) and not try to mess with deleting cookies, etc.  As someone else so wisely said, we don't want to be disqualified.  If the Bloomies are up to no good, then let them be disqualified.  Remember, slow and steady wins the race!

Happy 2006. Nice morning here but no solution to the Bloombabes I see. I scouted round some OB sites as someone else did and couldn't see any activity like ours. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark. Hope you get some joy from Hello magazine, Sue. Before going out to celebrate last night I watched AABA. Lovely atmospheric film but just one small unease - didn't like the over the top melodramatics at the end of the wharf where he shouts out "Stella Maris" and grabs the air. Alanfan and Sarah -- I completely agree, something's definitely NOT right. LESS THAN HALF of my votes make his total go up. About 60% of the time Alan's total doesn't move, whereas Bloom's does.

Also, the sudden upsurge of votes for OB last night which put him aheady of AR by a margin of exactly 2,000 votes is rather...strange. 

There IS something fishy going on, methinks.

Slightly OT, re: the Stewart play AR has been to on Dec 11. It was a play by JON Steward and not Patrick Stewart, staged in Prince Edward Theatre not The Albery Theatre. This is going to be a bit long-winded so please bear with me:

I have been voting from as many browsers as may laptop can handle - Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Avant, Enigma, FlashPeak Slim Browser, GoSurf, Advanced Browser, Ace Explorer and Netscape. You can find them (they're all free) here:

Now, I have discovered that I can vote in Opera just about EVERY ONE OR  TWO MINUTES (!!) as long as I don't hit the vote button continuously but go to another browser window, vote there, and then go back to Opera.

It is important that you do something in your other browser window(s) before going back to Opera, such as clicking on the vote button (even if the your vote isn't being registered because of the 15 minutes) - once there has been some activity in another browser, your vote IS being registered when you vote again Opera!!

Can you guys check if this works on your computers as well (remember, keep switching back an forth between Opera and your other browsers), or if this is just a glitch in my computer? I have a suspicion, though, that it is not - it would account for the sudden upsurge in votes for Bloom, if the Bloom fans had discovered this as well.

Perhaps we have a browser expert here who can tell us what is causing this so we can take full advantage of Opera and increase AR's votes more effectively?

Actually, I read in multiple places that AR did have a problem with guns in the movie......supposedly if you watch when he shoots Takagi (sp?) he fliches slightly.  I read or heard this a couple of times, I would have to go back and research where.  I went back and tried to see it, I guess I could kind of see what they meant.   I think it's an adorable quality!

I've been messing around with the "Turn to Page 394" timer, and I'm not 100% if this is accurate but give it a try ...

Open up the website with the timer.  Vote.  Enter another website address and click "Go".  Then when you're at that website, click "back", so you arrive back at the Hello page.   You'll get the "Only vote once every 15 minutes" pop-up, but just click "Vote" again anyway.

I've been doing this for about 5 minutes now and everytime I hit vote, the counter has been going up by two votes.  That's like ... two votes every 3 seconds.

Maybe it's just me, let me know if it works for anyone else.

Last vote of the night, it jumped from 7809 to 7830!!

Will Young won Pop Idol some years ago and is one of the only ones from it that have stayed around *grrr*

Just my opinion but I'd be wary of publicizing it too much in a non AR community. There's quite a wide selection of guys there that have a lot of fans. Looks to me that no-one in the JD comms have picked it up yet and didn't Hugh Jackman have an enormous monthly vote too. I say keep it quiet if you can!!LOL

If you're getting a server not found, something outside what I've created is wrong, I think.  Make sure the files are all resident in the same directory and that you are opening the one noted in the instructions.

As far as the refresh timing, yes, I've noticed sometimes it is off.  I'm not sure why that is, but I will try and figure it out.    Maybe Christina can still find the info on the tool she used before.  But, I wanted to be very careful about making something that operated in a legal fashion.

Sorry there seem to be a few bugs with it!  But for me, it 'generally' seems to work.

Will Young won one of those PopIdol type things, I think it was the first one. He seems to be hanging on in the pop world by going for the more family entertainer type route. Not my cup of tea really though I have heard a couple of songs on the radio and liked them then found out it was him!!

 He can be seen in the Judi Dench movie Mrs.Henderson Presents where he plays a very camp song and dance man (typecast) and is surprisingly good in it.

Nice to come back from London late last night and see you are all busy clicking already. O/T I went to see Patrick Stewart's one man performance of A Christmas Carol. With just a black set and a few chairs and a table and simple mood lighting he had the audience spellbound. First play I have ever been to that had a standing ovation.

I recall Alan Rickman saying in an interview (Hard Talk?) that he would never do a one man show as he thought acting should be about "re-acting" off somebody else. I can see his point as there has to be slight element of showing-off I suppose ("Hey, Look at me I'm doing all this myself!") but I think Patrick Stewart has deserved all his awards and plaudits for this show.

I'm back from sunny South Africa, and isn't this freezing London weather just wonderful??? OK, don't answer that.

I imagine this is old news to a lot of you, but having spoken to my sis, it looks like Snow Cake has been picked to premiere at Berlinale, the Berlin film festival in Feb 06.  The release date for the rest of us is Spring 2006.

Wow, I didn't realize we had some many friends affected by autism.  For me, that only makes the release of Snow Cake even more important!  DarkMark, I'm sure your Mother is proud of you and your siblings and thinks that you all are the heros. 

LISA, you are absolutely right. There are some groups of HP fans that really don't have an idea of any of his other work.  And that is a real shame.  I hope the projects he worked on this year will change that to.

Alfan - I saw that thing at HPANA about the release date and thought the same thing as you at first.  But if you read it carefully, that is merely a suggestion by HPANA to JKR for the release date.  The fact that they are all "7's" - 7/7/07 and Dumbledore stating that the number "7" has especially magical properties (hence the 7 horcruxes) they thought it would be a neat idea.  Who knows?....could happen.  She is going to spend 2006 writing book 7 and by the time it is edited and printed, July 7th might be a realistic release date.  But it's all up to JKR and at this point, it's too early to commit to any date.

Reedpipe, it's always interesting to here from people who have a real-life slant on something a film portrays. I'm always a bit wary that sometimes movies make  "a-disability-of-the-month" of a certain subject. It will be fascinating to see how the movie deals with autism.

Personally I love Close My Eyes. I love Poliakoff's films and I think the settings and whole feel of the film are wonderful and very much of that time. I never found the incest thing that yucky, maybe because the characters were not supposed to have grown up together or been particularly close. Could have perhaps done with less of Clive Ownen's arse but he has improved with age too

Personally, I had to watch CME a couple of times before I was able to warm up to it but once I warmed up....I love it.  In fact, I love just about all Stephen Poliakoff films now. But it was very difficult at first to get over the incest thing in CME.   

AR said in the Gloria Hunniford interview that the part of Sinclair was written for him. 

Well now I've been an AR "fan" (for want of a better word LOL) for only about 7 or 8 months now and for Xmas I got half a dozen or so films that he was in. Tonight I sat through one of the worst films I have ever seen in my life!!

I was told to watch this film and I would love it so I made sure that Father Christmas put it in my stocking on Xmas morning!!

The film???? Close My Eyes!!! I am surprised that AR actually agreed to make the film

I dont wanna offend anyone with this post and if I have then  but its just my humble opinion. I dont know, maybe I should watch it again??

Ah well, I suppose I cant like EVERYTHING he's in, although the film was made better by the fact that he WAS in it lol if ya know what I mean!

Camerata - no that clip that CatsPlay found does not contain a hot tub scene.  I read in an article somewhere (I can't remember where) that there was a scene with Alan and a girl filmed in a hot tub.  It was an article that came out earlier in the year when they were still up in Wawa, Canada finishing the film.  Maybe one of our sleuths can find it again.

Lex, I don't think the Manchester Utd Ruined my Life film was ever made. I think the plug got pulled after a change in tax laws over here. Jason Isaacs was due to be in it too and he emailed one of his fanpages at the time and said it had been cancelled.

Re AR in 4 Weddings: I have heard that story before about the casting and it just seems an odd thing - Hugh Grant was just perfect as Charles. But I do wonder given what it did for his career if it might have inspired journalists to think of him in another context rather than always hyping the 'villainous' roles he's played. Looking at the breadth of AR's work, I would consider the truly 'villainous' roles small in number - but standing out perhaps because of his performance. Even the so-called 'bad guys' are richly layered and have interesting subtexts...

I have to agree with Elaine on AR in 4WaaF.  Actually, I think Hugh Grant was perfect for that role.  I don't think I would like to see AR in a role where he has to be bumbling and on the verge of being an idiot.  LOL

I knew I had stumbled onto pure gold when I found that clip, LOL!  Question, can you tell what AR is saying in the part when he speaks?  I have only listened with headphones so far but I am having trouble understanding what he says (oh, that voice, though...!).  I am going to see if I can grab any other screencaps or pics.  Unfortunately that first portion seems pretty pixelated.

Woo hoooo, I have been watching the Snow Cake clip again!  I feel so silly watching again and again...but what the hay!

I have lost all my patience and I will no longer tolerate the ranting any longer.

I spent the holiday weekend unexpectedly encountering AR cognates (or tentacles, as some call them).  Finally got around to seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (I'm slow, I know...) and was pleased to see Adam Godley (Victor in PL) and Missi Pyle (Laliari in GQ). 

Then I did my annual holiday viewing of Bernard and the Genie and was gob-smacked with the realization that one of the films the genie is watching is actually RHPOT!  While in the theatre, he shouts encouragement to Robin, then much later in the film he expresses his admiration for "great big Kevin Costner".  Geesh--how many times did it take me to watch that film before I realized this? 

My third tentacle moment concerns Clive Woodall's novel One for Sorrow, Two for Joy which I finally finished yesterday.  Someone recommended it to me because of the character Traska, an evil magpie who would very appropriately be voiced by AR in the upcoming Disney animated feature (no date has been set, so far as I know, nor has AR been approached to do the voice, so far as I know).  All that being said, AR could definitely do Traska in a walk.  As a matter of fact, I think Mr. Woodall has probably seen RHPOT one too many times!  Good book, however--if you liked Watership Down you will probably enjoy this also.

David Tennant's Dr Who: I thought he was great but I was never that keen on Christopher Ecclestone. DT has launched himself into the character and I thnk will be really good. He's funnier than CE and I think brings some of the old "spirit" of Dr Who back wheras I thought CE was a bit too "human". The Christmas ep was really like the old eps where you had funny monsters and "cliff hangers" although being just an hour long, the plot was a bit weak, but there were some funny lines from Dr Who such as references to H2G2 that were worth hearing. The new series starts "proper" in the spring (they say) and looks good.

re: the link that claudia posted to the calendar, just a word of caution -- I think there are 2 different desk calendars.  I think the one Claudia posted to is one that I physically saw in a bookstore here -- it is more of a book size/journal, maybe 5x7 size -- AND -- the Snape deleted scene (snow scene) is NOT in that calendar.  I think there were only 1 or 2 Snape pics in that one. 

I think the one that Emily posted pics from is more of the square desk calendar where you rip off each day (Emily, correct me if I'm wrong).  And that is the one that contains the Snape snow scene pic.

Again, the only reason I know is because I was excited to find the one that claudia linked to in a store, but of course I had to look through it all before buying and good thing, because the Snape pic was not in it.

I've seen Dead Ringers on BBC-A too and have never been impressed with their AR impression either. But some of their other stuff hits right on the mark.  LOL

Camerata, I read some where that AR was first in line for 4WaaF too but I've never been able to find anything of substanance to back it up.  But you're right...its is frustrating some of the things he turned down.
