Comments: Ho-hum. This is getting tiring.
Here is Sheila -
Here is not Sheila --
Note Sheila's small almond shaped eyes. Note the other woman's large doe eyes. Note Sheila's Rickman-like nose. Note the other woman's petite nose. Note Sheila's height. Note other woman's lack of height.
The woman in the bottom picture is not Sheila. She was his date for the 2002 Emmys. She has never been identified, but she shows up in at least one other picture with him over the years (I don't have it). She is one of AR's many mystery lady friends.
What is your location? Madison Comments: Thanks for some tips, I think I've already made a decision. But it was sooo hard! But the most important thing for me was When Love Speaks (also as for future student of English literature and drama)
To Alan and Sheila-I'm almost sure it IS Sheila-just my opinion

Thanks a lot Susan, Sue and Emily for answering my questions about that rare pic of Alan and those little girls around him.. At the beginning, I really believed that the rare pic was a manip, as well Emily said IT IS A MANIPULATION. Lex told me too. Thanks, dear Lex! Nowadays, Alan's nieces should be older than the girls in the photo. It made me unsure for moments! Lex posted a pic from Ebay saying that the woman who appears beside Alan is Sheila... but Emily said that the woman isn't Sheila...who is she then?

What is your location? Arkansas Comments: I have a Winter Guest video some may have for free if they want it.
Comments: Kristina: Since you ask . . . 1) Mesmer = Title role - all Alan, all the time - and gorgeous! 2) Something the Lord Made = lots of a more recent version of Alan. Also, Mos Def is great and it's an interesting theme. 3) Judas Kiss = I LOVE him in it, and Emma always, but their parts are smallish. Rasputin = great acting, lots of Alan, but not adorable (for my money) Dark Harbor = very good, distant naked Alan, but a bit depressing. The last scene is fun. Closet Land = Delicious, no doubt, but it's a disturbing theme. January Man = Adorable, but a small role.
Comments: Kristina--
My personal opinion here...
Something the Lord made--It's a good movie, very good. Alan plays a good man. But it isn't one of his more yummy roles.
Closet Land--Alan is stunning. But many have said it was a disturbing movie to watch. It isn't one that I tend to go back to either, even though he is beautiful in it. Also, I had problems finding that the only copies I could get had mostly Spanish menus.
Dark Harbor--Yes, get it! He gets naked and the last scene is worth it all.
Mesmer--Have not seen it, but what little I have seen, I think it would be worth it.
Rasputin--It's very interesting and I think would be worthwhile to see. It is one of his less physically attractive roles. But as always he has charisma.
Judas Kiss--Haven't seen it but am on the look out for it myself. I think it would be good. It has Emma in it too!
The January Man--He's in it so little and has so few lines, I wouldn't bother buying it. Watch it sometime if you can rent it or borrow it or have just loads of money someday.
What is your location? Madison Comments: By the way I have a problem and I need a help. I'm still in USA and until I will go back home to Europe a can get almost all of Alan's movies which I didn't have. ¨ BUT: money money money..so, please, advise me which I should buy, please...

What is your location? Madison Comments: I also found some obscurities in the article and the part about the jasmin etc.is really strange for him- at once so perspicuous? I don't mean that it's so much personal but still not his own style.
"The Big Theater Return" will make us wondering a lot, won't it? But certainly it will be good chosen play. And if Juliet or Lindsay could play with him...no no no...it's so much happiness at once.
What is your location? NZ Comments: Sue and Emily, I agree about the padding out of The Scotsman article. Maybe her editor asked her to make it longer than her original interview so we had the speech defect, LLD stuff which is a bit tired. I was puzzled he was not asked to be part of the year long Shakespeare festival at Stratford actually. Look forward to hearing news of any upcoming theatre announcement and hope Sue, you will keep us posted.
What is your location? Munich Comments: I've been reading the GB for a long time and now just have to add my little comment about the Scotsman Interview. As sue and emiliy have already mentioned, some sentences and phrases are literally taken out of Patons book. Also I wondered very much about the last sentences talking about the jasmine bushes growing in the doorway. Do the houses in London, where he lives, have courtyards at all? And didn't "Private lives" run out in 2002 and not in 2001? Just a few points I thought about and now I go in background again. Please excuse my short English!
Comments: sue, I am glad that you also picked up on how much of the Scotsman piece was padded out by stuff lifted directly from the Paton book. There are phrases that if memory serves are pretty much word for word from the book - mostly the biographical stuff about him and Rima. She's no longer lecturing at Kingston , is she? I'm pretty sure she retired.
The writer came off as a fluffhead, IMHO. And that title ... well, there's the reason right there that he rarely does interviews.
Comments: Thank you soooooo much Miriam and Yulia! Next time I see my family-friend who met him, I shall try and let you know what happened. Have a great day everybody!
What is your location? France What is the URL of your HomePage? (include "http://") http://www.rickmanparadise.com Comments: Emily : Thanks for the new photos ! Quote: Surely his nieces have not been frozen in time since then. ROFL *spreading the water off my mouth on the computer screen* OMG I loved so much the article in the Scotsman ! It could be great if he comes back on stage !!! I must save money right now ! lol Woow The photo of the magazine is woooow ! LOL Thank you Sue !
Comments: Oh, now the price is £54.00!!!! Unbelievable! Brittany, it is absolutely clear that Alan and Rima have no children, they both are involved in helping some children and it's the most kind of them. Just look at The National Autistic Society, which Alan and Rima are members of. Great! By the way I have got today a letter of Mrs Melanie Parker, this time it took less then 2 months. Good luck! Yulia
Comments: Hikity, I have given up trying to fathom out the mentality of ebay purchasers!! I have emailed Lurking Fairy who is in Edinburgh for the Festival and suggested she does a bit of bin diving this week, we could make a fortune!
Comments: Sue, then, why on earth, did the price on ebay rise so much - ridiculous, isn't it (some 56 GBP or so...)
Comments: Hikity, the interview on the web is from Scotland on Sunday and the magazine cover is listed on ebay as from Scotland on Sunday's Spectrum magazine so I am assuming they are the same thing!
Comments: sue, is this one and the same interview? I thought that's different from the one on the internet we got from Emily..
Comments: It's no wonder he doesn't do many interviews when they go stick something like that on the cover. I don't suppose it's the journalist's doing but some sub-editor laying out the cover and trying to catch the eye but it really is irrelevant to the article isn't it? Also quite a bit of the interview looked padded out by old stuff, you know the usual: speech impediment, "sex with Alan Rickman" etc etc. Still I suppose we have to be grateful for small crumbs. Interesting to note that it appears to be a conscious decision not to do any interviews on My Name is Rachel Corrie. I have always been surprised that none of the Arts programmes covered it over here. So shall we start surmising on what he could return to stage with?? Hopefully something modern.
What is your location? Almelo, the Netherlands Comments: Hi Brittany,
No, Alan and Rima do not have children. I am not surprised, though, that he participated in a program for children, for I have a feeling he is wonderful with children. I hope that this anwers your question properly.

Comments: Miriam, Jéssika et al, please scorll down and find the new article provided by Emily and Ellen. However, there is no article about the "Sexy Beast" - this is just from a cover and you can buy the agazine on ebay if you want...
Comments: Okay, so where's a link for the sexy beast article! AGGG, I'm going nutty. Miriam
What is your location? tx Comments: In Michael Collins AR plays DeValera. That's the one with the glasses. Here's a link to a picture http://michaelcollins.warnerbros.com/cmp/gfx/b19.jpg. AR is on the left and Liam Neeson is on the right. Miriam
What is your location? Madison Comments: Sorry I'm so late, but: OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!! The article!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's just a minute I read it!!!! And I still can't breath.A little bit of information-not speculations!
And his return to theater? Nothing can be better!!! I know that he's the type-when is he playing, he puts in the character everything and it's very nerve-racking -but we all know that he loves that too!!!
ALan, how is it possible, that I love you more and more? I'm still wheezing!
What is your location? Wellington. NZ Comments: Yes, it is great to think Alan will be treading the boards again.(Is that a bit of an old-fashioned phrase?). I just sneaked out of work to see Wah-Wah at our Film Festival. Great film. Our man would have been good as Richard E Grant's dad.
Comments: So, I have two questions. One: Do Alan Rickman and/ Rima Horton have kids? I have been meaning to ask for a while, because A family friend of mine had a sort of schooling program for kids and says Alan Rickman was there...HE TALKED TO HIM AND DIDN'T TELL ME!!!!!!!!! URGGGG! And the second question is I just bought Micheal Collins on VHS for a dollar (OMG) and I am confused on what Alan's role is. I have only watched the first thirty minutes or so, but before I get farther and more confused, I would like to know whats going on and what his role is, so if anyone can help me out I would be really happy!!!!
What is your location? Brasil Comments: Sorry girls, i got crazy with sexy beast pic and didn't see the link. i've just read it. he's really lovely, and man, i wish i could watch MNIRC.
What is your location? Brasil Comments: Girls!!!!!
Please someone could post the link to the interview?? the sexy beast one????
PLEASE!!
Comments: From today's Sunday Times Culture Magazine: Quote:
Comments: Dee, Sexy Beast is the name of a very violent Brit gangster movie starring Sir(and don't you forget it!) Ben Kingsley and Ray Winstone, maybe you were thinking of that??
What is your location? New York Comments: The seller on EBay also has other photos of Alan, most of them I think we've seen before (all with LD), but there's one (I think around the time LLD was playing) I hadn't seen before. LD looks so young!
Comments: Thanks for posting the cover, Sue. The EBay bidding frenzy is outta control! Hopefully it'll show up on one of the newsstands that stock foreign papers here in a couple of days.
Comments: That woman in the pic is not Sheila.
What is your location? London Comments: Laura, the pic can be found in our Forum
Comments: What a fabulous article! The author didn't just regurgatate the stories we're heard a million times -- there was so much new stuff here! His views on growing older, his relationship with Rima, MNiRC, etc. Thank you Ellen! But ya know...I'm pretty sure that article title "Sexy Beast" has been used before... Does anyone remember?
Comments: I can't open that page, Lex. Is it a new pic? Did you save it and can send it to me, please? Thank you all for sharing your finds!

Comments: Ebay is full of magazine covers for the Scotland on Sunday Spectrum Magazine.
I bet he loved that heading!!
Comments: The good old Soonews reports HERE on the showing of Snowcake at the Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival on 17th September. Also gets a report in Wawa-news.com HERE. Note that a catered reception follows the showing so maybe they are trying to lure a star there!!

Comments: Thanks to Emily for the interview link. I rushed through it this morning before work but obviously missed the going back on stage bit!!! Fingers crossed for that. If it happens I have a feeling there will be a lot of travellers to London!
What is your location? New York Comments: Oh, Wow! Thanks so much Emily, Barbara and Ellen for the absolutely fantastic article! His interviews are so few and far between that to have one as in depth as this one is just amazing! The best part? back on stage!!! I have to start saving my pennies now!
What is your location? Italy Comments: Thank you so much for the photos, Emily! He really is "Pretty in Pink"! And a big thank you goes also to Barbara and Ellen for the brilliant article! Comments: Sorry, thanks to Emily too of course...
Comments: Thanks so much for the link to the article Barbara & Ellen. Do you know what made me jump out of sheer exitement???
"They changed all our lives," Rickman says, adding that he is planning a return to the stage soon. "It's still under discussion," he says, adding that it will be the first piece of theatre he has done since Private Lives, in the West End in 2001"
Comments: Emily, thank you so much for the latest pics and this great interview in Scotsman. Seldom enough do we read a good interview with him! What striked me most were his words about Snowcake: I know Rachel only as I know any character, the way I know Alex Hughes, say, the man I play in Snowcake, who is probably more like me than anyone I've ever played. He's very close to me, because I enjoy playing somebody who is just doing his best - that's me." This is what I felt when I saw the film - and - maybe therefore - for me it's his best film so far.
What is your location? London Comments: Emily and Sue are absolutely right. The two young girls are far too young for Alan's nieces and besides that it is a photo manip by a Russian we better go no further investigating in the matter to not upset someone.
What is your location? Indonesia What is the URL of your HomePage? (include "http://") http://alan_rickman_freak.blogs.friendster.com/rickmesmerized/ Comments: Wow, that article ROCKS! Thank you for the link and thank you for the pictures!
I think the Alan and the kids photo was taken in front of a stage door, no? A fan's daughters? I don't believe it was his nieces...
Comments: Emily, thanx for the photos and the link. Dee, thanx fro the story's link. As for the pic, it is rather Phot Shop manip, of course. Even the image is quite unclear and mystery. Good luck!
What is your location? Canada Comments: " Rickman, is still chomping on his toasted Panani. He offers me half wich i politly refuse"
HELLLLLOOOOOOO! ARE YOU STUPID!!!!!!!
That has to be one of the nicest interviews that I have read that he has done. Well done.

Poor guy...does he know how much he's adored?

Comments: I'm in a bit of a rush, so if this isn't new please forgive me. It's dated July 22, 2006:
"Just saw Alan Rickman at Blue Fin in Times Square. He and two lady friends were seated at the table behind me. They all sat down, the waiter came to take my order and when I looked back at the table, they were gone. Maybe he didn't like sitting in the back." Here's the link to the story:
Comments: Here's the link to the long Scotsman interview with AR. Lots of stuff here.
What is your location? New Zealand Comments: Good article/interview in today's (Sunday) The Scotsman,. Someone who gets Google alerts and is more technically literate will be able to do a link. Seems a promise of a return to the boards.
What is your location? New York Comments: Emily, thanks so much for the new pictures of Alan! They're really great! The other gentleman in the photo is Simon Hammerstein, Dena's son, who's a producer, director, and entrepreneur. IIRC, "The Box" is going to be a dinner theatre/supper club located in The Village in NYC, not too far from where MNIRC will be playing. It was supposed to have it's big opening this fall.
Comments: Thanks for the new pics Emily, great find! I love to see that he wears pink
Comments: Right, sue. And isn't AR quoted somewhere saying that his sister didn't dress her daughters in pink?
My thought is, this is a Photo Shop manip that someone made of their (very, very cute) kids ...
Correction to the new photos -- they were taken on Thursday night, not last night.
Comments: I wasn't going to comment on that photo as I wasn't comfortable with kids being discussed but I must admit my first thought was the same as Emily's, the kids would be much older compared with him.
Comments: Forgot to add -- the "rare" photo looks Photoshopped.
Anyway, here are some REAL photos of AR. Taken in NYC last night at a theater event. Woman with him is the NY producer of MNIRC, Dena Hammerstein.
Comments: Sorry to rain on the speculation parade, but I doubt those are his nieces. The nieces were probably 3 and 6 or 4 and 7 or so when CME was made in 1990. Look at Alan in this picture! He has the Private Lives haircut, which means this picture was taken in 2001 or so -- TEN years after CME was made! Surely his nieces have not been frozen in time since then.
What is your location? England Comments: Also....look at the resemblance to Alan with the girl on the left!
A proper Rickman if ever I saw one.
What is your location? Hot and sticky office at home Comments: I do believe they are Alan's nieces Amy and Claire. They are the same two girls that were in Close my eyes and those were his nieces. If you look at the little girl goes over and speaks to at the garden party near the end that's her on the right.

What is your location? UK Comments: Edinburgh is a bit far for me too but I would love to go see it! Oh well I suppose I'll have to wait til September when it comes out in the cinema!
Comments: I can't remember if this has been mentioned before but Snow Cake is to be shown at the Edinburgh film festival on the 15th and 17th August 19.00 and 17.10 respectively. Tickets are £7.50 cons £5.20 I would love to go but Edinburgh is a bit too far.
What is your location? TX Comments: Rickmanic, I LOVE the photos. Before I read what you wrote below the pic of AR and "Bethany" (why can't I remember her name?) I though, Gee, it looks like she's grabbing him and wow, look at the look on his face. Then I read what you wrote. LOL. So, I guess you're not the only one who interpreted it that way. Hey, if Ben can Grab butts... Miriam

What is your location? Germany Comments: I came across the news that there will be a German book about 'Perfume' and the places it was shot and supposed to take place, i.e. Barcelona, Grasse etc. It seems to be some kind of travel guide, but the article said that there also will be an 18-page-long chapter about the actual film shooting. I don't know whether it will include any interesting information, but it might be worth checking out when it will be released - probably in August. The book's called Auf den Spuren von Patrick Süskinds "Das Parfüm". Eine Reise zu Romanschauplä

What is your location? Germany Comments: Hello everyone!!
First of all: This site is one of my favorites about AR - really great work!!! Well I'm visiting this guestbook constantly - because the pics and news you share here are great!!
Now the reason why I'm "out of underground" now:
When I saw this picure some days ago here and read the comment: What AR might be thinking
I remembered a funny picture from the same event which I found some month ago with a funny comment another AR-fan wrote:
What's her hand doing there?
Well I thought I should share
Now I'm back on my way to underground
Best wishes Rickmanic
By the way: Sorry for my english - it's .....
Comments: Good morning,
sorry but INTJ, how do I download that file, I don't see a link, only one which get's me to another site that - after some time - will change to an advertisment.

That's all for now.

sue, thanks for the review of The Seagull. For some reason (because I haven't seen a thing he's in yet), I get the distinct feeling that Ben Whishaw is an AR in the making. Thanks for posting the new Perfume pics! With Perfume and Snow Cake on the horizon, its just seems like fall will never get here!
I know Villa Golitsyn is a long shot....a really looooong shot but I still have hope that it will make it to the screen one day with AR and KST.
AFNH sent me an article a few days ago from a magazine for the Edinburgh Festival. Forgive my tardiness in posting. Thanks so much AFNH!!!
Speaking of Snow Cake, what did you think of it, Chalebh? And lucky Lurking Fairy! We want to hear what you lucky ladies thind about the film.
The fabulous INTJ has worked very hard on capturing Babitsky's War for us. I now have it and I'll upload it to my server this evening and post a link above tonight. Thank you so much INTJ for all your hard work and willingness to share so much with us.
CatsPlay found a couple of LJ postings with New York AR sightings. Take a peek at her LJ for details. Rickmanalysis.com Thanks CatsPlay!
Dee, I've always liked that pic from the Dogma photoshoot. Not only do we have a beautiful shot of The Man's profile but Ben Affleck's pose is a hoot.
Going backwards a bit. I'm finally getting to read the Anna Massey book. I'm such a slow reader because I only have time to read for pleasure at bedtime and I usually fall asleep. But I'm enjoying the book. Its been a delightful read so far. There is one other little AR bit that I missed when I originally posted about the book. In the Acknowledgements, AR is the very first person she thanks. "Alan Rickman who was responsible for getting the whole project started". I haven't forgotten the questions that were asked back when I posted the first AR bits and as soon as I get to the answers, I'll post them.
As much as I'm enjoying reading about Anna Massey's life AND I'm twisting an old phrase around a bit....
Alan Rickman! What's good for the gander is good for the goose! When will we be getting your autobiography????
Kristina, I'm so glad that your Internet connection is fixed. We missed ya!
As for the news alert about AR attending Bill Gates birthday party (thanks for posting Marlina), I was quite surprised to see his name in the list of attendees. I would have never expected that from him.
I've admired Paul Allen for years. Right after making his fortune with Microsoft, he left MS (but he still consults from time to time) and used his fortune to help others.
*grin* As for gold digging Allen...can I join the party sue and Hikity?

Comments: Lordy...could you imagine the excitement here if Alan DID get the much deserved Oscar nomination?? And the explosion of happiness if he GOT it?? AAANNnnnnd the screams of anguish if he didn't win??
Comments: Yes, Sam, I agree but still for me the interaction and dialogues between Alan and SW were absolutely outstanding and in fact the highlight of the fílm
What is your location? London Comments: Hello, Well I for one cant wait to see Snowcake,I know that it has had a very good response abroad and one of my fellow collegues has seen this film and totally raved about it. They had nothing but praise for the script and the film in general, but the performances were what caught my collegues eye, they said that Miss Weaver was amazing in her part, but the scenes that really stood out were between Mr Rickman and Miss Moss, said that they had some electricity going on there...Also that Mr Rickman(I must start calling him Alan oh here)was just outstanding and should be in contention for an Acadamy nod... So,with all that,I cant wait for it to turn up here in the UK.. Sam..

Comments: sue, soon, don't worry...in November is the official release. I know it's still a long way. Chalebh said that it won't be shown in English - which is a PITY - These dialogues are sooooo British, so dry , I luv that film.

I hear that Lurking Fairy has a ticket for Edinburgh too. When are we going to get a chance to see it in London!?!
Comments: Chalebh, I wish you a wonderful evening tomorrow - have a lot of fun with Snow Cake!!!! And don't forget your camera
Claudia, would you send me your address again, please. You could use my official e-mail if you still have it...Bono is waiting

What is your location? UK Comments: Sue, you've obviously never seen a pic of Paul Allen, he ain't pretty! See www.paulallen.com, and I think the pic there flatters him.

Comments: Quote: It was being chartered by the world's third richest man, Paul Allen, who is in the habit of inviting several hundred close personal friends along on his adventures.
Who is this gentleman and where can I meet him!!
Comments: Yulia, that B&W photo was taken at a funeral/memorial sevice for somebody. I think it was a journalist but might be wrong (I know it wasn't John Diamond anyway)

Of course, the biggest splash of celebrity sightings happened one slow Sunday morning in October 1998, when the cruise ship Crystal Harmony tied up at the dock. It was being chartered by the world's third richest man, Paul Allen, who is in the habit of inviting several hundred close personal friends along on his adventures. Among the guests was the richest man in the world, Bill Gates, - whose birthday was the reason behind the trip - and dozens of Hollywood and music world A, B, and C.listers. Wandering Ketchikan streets were the likes of Robin Williams, Candice Bergen, Rob Reiner, Dennis Hopper, Tom Hanks, Penny Marshall, Alan Rickman, Lou Reed, Debbie Reynolds, Rita Wilson, Jeff Goldblum, Jerry Hall, Carrie Fisher, Billy Crystal, "Titanic" director James Cameron, Dan Ackroyd, Henry Kissinger and Houston Rockets star Clyde Drexler.
Did Alan have any relation with Bill Gates???

What is your location? england Comments: Yes, I think The Villa Golitsyn is going to join the list of The Ones That Got Away! It obviously isn't being filmed at the time it was listed to ie June 5th-July 28th!
O/T( but with more than a couple of degrees to AR) - This afternoon I went to The National Theatre and saw Chekhov's The Seagull a new version by Martin Crimp. This received a few horrendous reviews as well as a couple of very good ones. Juliet Stevenson played Madam Arkadina and Ben Wishaw her son Konstantin. It appeared to be set in Russia but in about the 30s. The sets were all huge and crumbling and would appear to be post-revolution and yet strangely there were about 8 servants who scurried around rather distractingly throughout the play. Juliet Stevenson was brilliant and I think Ben Whisaw is destined fro great things. He is quite small and as thin as a rake and full of angst (plus he had a cute butt whilst leaning over the grand piano!) Mark Bazeley played Trigorin (the part AR played in the radio version and on stage I think) and he was rather tasty too! (Sorry for the shallowness) and I could quite imagine Alan playing the part. I loved the sets which sometimes were three rooms deep ie you could see things going on two rooms behind through windows. There was a lot of tango dancing in it at which Juliet and Mark B seemed pretty adept. Certainly rather different from other productions but I enjoyed it.

Comments: A bit more googling on the Nobel Son soundtrack revelas this quote from British DJ Paul Oakenfold: Quote: In fact, Oakenfold has taken up residence in Amsterdam. He's been there scoring music for 'Nobel Son,' an upcoming flick starring Danny Devito, Eliza Dushku and Alan Rickman. "It's like 'Pulp Fiction' meets 'Snatch,'" he says of the movie, directed by Randy Miller. "It's kind of an MTV demographic, and they wanted more electronic music than traditional scores."
Comments: Claudia and Emily: Danny Devito plays an eccentric neighbor ... Rhetorical question: can we expect anything better of him? NO
Thanks so much for the link and the nice pic of the OooA
Claudia: what is meant here with "mug" (I assume it's not a cup for tea or coffee )??: Well, after a spending a glorious morning searching the web for new photos to add to my Alan Rickman mug (note to self: get a bigger mug)...
Lex, wonderful pic. It looks like a papier-maché ...which reminds me of Redtango's one she took with her around the town on Alan's birthday (I believe). May be you should go into production - I am the first to buy it and then walk through Cologne with it

Comments: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LEX!!! Hope it has been a great day for you! Yes Hikity, Sue's right. I live in the north (not that far from the Scottish border) and I also live on the coast. Usually summer here means fog, fog and more fog coming in from the North Sea. Two years ago, in August, it was either thick fog or rain for the entire 2 weeks of my holidays. As I finish work next Friday for 2 weeks, I'm hoping this fine weather will hold out. If it doesn't, I'll be terribly depressed (and start to sound like Marvin!) There has been a magazine released for the Edinburgh Festival and there is a double page interview with Sigourney Weaver in it, and quite a bit about Snowcake. As Photobucket is acting up for me at the moment, I've emailed it to Claudia, and no doubt she'll work her magic with it before long!

Is anyone going? Just thought I'd check. Thanks.

Hello and welcome aboard u ARe my sunshine! So glad to have you with us. Hope you will have lots of fun with us.
sue and Hikity, the new AR pics are wonderful! AR news sure has been slow and scarce lately. I suppose he's very involved in the play. We can't have everything. Oh and sue, your newest paper is on my cell phone now! I love it!
Hikity, congrats on seeing Snow Cake! Gawd, I can't wait for it to open here in the US. I still want to see this and Pefume soooo badly! And yes dear! I do want your Bono stash! Thank hubby for getting the magazine, please!
Dark Mark, your English is great and don't feel inhibited in posting here. Your in a safe environment here.
u ARe my sunshine, your husband's first verse is cute as can be! And the idea to have others join in on the fun of writing verses is wonderful! Totally Smitten ( its been to long my dear), your verses are sooo funny! Thank goodness I didn't have a mouthful of water when I read them.
The verse writing and the significant other's reaction to our AR obsession are great and perfect for our Discussion Party board. I'm going to paste the existing verses over there so we can really have some fun with this. I'm excited to see what everyone will come up with.

BTW, where is Claudia? Claudia, I've got Bono material!!!!
LEX, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR, HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!

Comments: Hikity, it looks like we had the same idea at the same time--I didn't mean to overlap what you said, which I totally support.
Comments: Please use the Discussion Party for posts that aren't about AR--that's what Claudia created it for. The description up above says that the main GB is for discussion of AR's work, news of him, etc. In the last two days there have been about twenty messages that were completely or mostly on other subjects.
Comments: u ARe my sunshine, that's a nice idea from your hubby! He must be very sure of you, I packed my things and went to London, too... Oh, and I made a very simple paper from yesterday's photo:
Comments: Sue, there was no problem at all. It was an open-air cinema in the mensa park of the Freiburg university. You could bring whatever you liked - cameras, cigarettes, baguettes, beer, sandwiches, friends, . Every time I shot a photo I laughed so much that they are all blurred
What is your location? New York Comments: ROTFLMAO!!! SnoKat....That really is very very funny!!
Comments: Wow, I hadn't heard that Kevin came from an abusive home. But I had read that he was a wild kid who got in trouble at school a lot and something about setting a tree house on fire?? Hmmmm. Mostly I've just heard he is VERY, very private. Makes Alan look as outgoing as Paris Hilton!
What is your location? Melting in Arkansas Comments:
It is too hot here, too!
Kevin Spacey is really an odd duck, but I do like him as an actor. I went to the Old Vic last summer and was disappointed --he was off filming Superman--I enjoyed the play anyway. If you have ever had the chance to read his biography, to say he came from a disfunctional, abusive home is an understatement. The Old Vic is a beautiful theatre, I enjoyed just admiring the architecture.
Sue, thanks for that lovely piccie of AR
Comments: Nice pic Hikity. I'd be too terrified to take a pic in the cinema with all the dire threats you get over here before every movie! Sleep tight. Hope it's cooler than last night! We have just had a light rain shower so that has taken the edge of the heat for a bit.
Comments: Great, Sue, thanks! And here is the only pic I took during the film which is acceptable:
Nightynight
What is your location? simmering Comments: Hikity here is the article:
I must point out that the media have their knives into Kev in London as they don't think he is making a good job of running The Old Vic!
AFNH lives Oop North where the sun never shines LOL But it is now. We reached record temps in our region of SE England today!
Comments: AFNH, where do you live that summer has come so late? We have been having summer for 7 weeks now - sunshine pure
Comments: Carolyn, tell your daughter that I met Kevin in May here in Germany. He is very shy and even didn't want to give an interview for the paper - he did though after some discussion, but a short one only. He went out on the terrace after the play ( Richard II afternoon performance - an outstanding production esp. for this event on a huge stage) to have a soft drink and wore sunglasses and a hat. Well, I told him that I would recognize him anyway and he grinned and gave me an autograph, said thank you and left. Greg Wise, however, was great. He laughed and chatted with me for some time. He is a very very nice person.
Snow Cake: it wouldn't be fair to say too much about the film here (and a very detailed review you would find on Catsplay's site btw), but I love it to pieces. It is a wonderful portrait of a man who comes to terms with his past (round character) and of a high-functional autistic woman who unintentionally brings about a lot of hilarious moments, but also reflectiveness and sadness. Snow and snowflakes in particular play a major role of course. SW is incredibly good here and Alan just wonderful.
Sue, what does a catflap (installed at The Old Vic) mean? What is it?
Comments: - that was a big pic, Sue, and such a good one. He looks great in glasses! Feeling the heat here at last over the past few days (melting all over the pavement!) Summer's here at last!
What is your location? New York Comments: ROTFL....I know! When I read that, I was hysterical! What on earth does he think is going to happen? I told my daughter she really missed her chance then!
Comments: Quote: Unfortunately, no one thought of staying at the stage door after the play! Obviously only amateurs!!!. Mind you these days Kev's got a catflap installed at The Old Vic so he doesn't have to mingle with the riffraff! I'm still looking forward to seeing him in A Moon for the Misbegotten in October though!

I'm so jealous you all have got to visit England....lol Someday I will, hopefully it'll be before, well, we won't even think about that! I'm gonna start calling myself "landlocked" lol
Comments: Ohhh Kevin Spacey....a worthy crush!!
For years Chris Noth was my main obsession fantasy man. And I still love him! I mean there is just no one more manly who can fill out an Armani suit and still look like he could kick someone's ass.
Alan was in my top five for years and years....he just changed places within the last year to move to number 1. My core group of hearth throbs never changes much, just shifts.
What is your location? Sardinia Comments: u ARe my sunshine: looking forward to read your husband's lyrics... sam: I like the way you express yourself, it is clear enough for me. As you can see I'm not a native speaker but I like reading and speaking English and in general everything that comes from England or other english speaking country. You are so lucky to live in London. I've been there several times and felt just like Alice in wonderland. I hope we can meet one day and talk about Alan. Have a very nice day all of you.
What is your location? New York Comments: Hikity, I am so happy that you got to see Snow Cake! If you have a moment, could you give your thoughts on the movie and, of course, Alan? I can't wait to see it!
Sue, those pix of Snow Cake are so great! I love the one where he's just sitting alone!
Reading the posts about the patience of others putting up with "obsessions", I think I get more grief from my kids than I do from my husband! Although, my daughter shouldn't be one to throw stones. A few years ago she had a major, major, obsession with Kevin Spacey! I think my tendencies go back to the Beatles! You can't even begin to imagine, LOL!!!

Comments: Laura, I saw it for the FIRST time and in English and yes, I am talking about him in this film Sue, thank you for thinking of me and for that lovely pic in Linda's bathrobe - full of snowflakes - ohhhhh, he is so wonderful in this film and I personally believe it's his best so far - he can be himself here. The humour in the dialogues is outstanding. I hope you all can see SC ASAP

What is your location? Munich Comments: HI Dark Mark, You say your English is so limited. I am from Germany so my English is also limited and no one ever complained. Sometimes I wish there is not only a spell check but also a grammar check. But every Alan fan is welcomed here and it´s great that there are such different people on this side.
What is your location? london Comments: Hello again, Well I found this site when I was looking up details on Alan, and I saw this site and came and had a look round and I loved it straight away... Very informative... I dont feel picked on.....I feel very welcomed and you chaps all seem very nice indeed. I am from Britain, born and bred in London and am 36 years old. I have no children(yet!!)one husband who is very much my love, apart from Alan(lol),he is very understandable like your partners are,he is older than me,I love the older man, need I say more... I will do my best to get my words across more clearly,Im a useless journalist!!!!!!!!goodness knows how I have kept my job for so long!!!!LOL Sam
What is your location? TX Comments: I'm very fortunate that my husband seems totally okay with me having crushes on lots of different celebs. I've always been this way. The more stressful my life is, the more a fan I become. So I know it's a way of dealing with stress and I guess he's aware of it too. So he never complains. He says he knows who I'll come home to. It's absolutely true. There is a lot of trust in our relationship. I lived in England for a year in our fifth year of marriage and paid my way to go there to take a Masters degree. There were...opportunities. But I found myself being very clear about my limits. Every new guy I met knew ALLL about my husband in the first five minutes. LOL. One guy became kind of like a younger brother. He told me, "I think your husband likes seeing you happy" regarding some fan activities that my husband not only tolerates but openly encourages. LOL. Anyway, so I guess since my fan stuff is just fun and fantasy he seems quite cool with it. Miriam

He's a pretty funny guy, too, so I promise you won't be disappointed
What is your location? TX (where it is just too hot right now) Comments: Dark Mark, are you Autistic? I didn't know. I certainly feel my son who has Asperger Syndrome and my husband who has some aspie tendencies are both pretty charming to me. Anyway, if you are autistic and it makes expressing yourself difficult but you still want to say things here I'm sure that knowing how hard it is for you will make people more tolerant. Well, I hope so anyway. I always try not to judge people by their ability to write when I'm online because it can be from someone not speaking English as a first language or having some sort of communication disorder. I tend to be a bit of a grammar nut but I ignore that when I'm online most of the time. Sometimes if someone says something mean to me and they use lousy grammar THEN I razz them about it. Otherwise it's just not a nice battle to fight. Nobody is perfect and I'm sure I make plenty of mistakes. Miriam
Comments: My boyfriend is very tollerant of my Alan Obsession. In fact he referes to him as my "secret lover". But he appreciates his work as much as me and has enjoyed most everything of his he has seen. He's agreed that if I ever get the chance for the "night of passion" with Alan, it's AOK with him if he can at least watch! LOL! I put up with his Minnie Driver obsession so it's all good.
What is your location? Los Angeles Comments: To Claudia: Thank you for kindly noticing us. Well, me. Or is it "I"? My English is sooo limited. I love reading the guestbook but I mostly keep my mouth shut: I find that people do not find me as charming as those other autistic people on TV. *sigh* So I only say something when something REALLY pisses me off like the "Distinguished Drama Critic" or my mother getting this mad crush on James Woods.
Comments: Just back from our trip - Snow Cake was incredible, hilarious, simply fantastic - the OooA at his best and the audience had great fun with the outstanding British humour. I have to go to bed now, nightynight and btw: I totally agree with you, Ellen

A BIG hello and welcome to Nikhil and sam! I'm so glad you've joined out little group. This is the place to just let yourself "just go"! We have a great time here and I hope you will stay with us.
Dark Mark, its been a while since you last posted! Good to have you back.
Chevelle, thanks so much for the pics from Minetta Lane. I can't wait to get some reports from the play.
Dee, I love you newest update. I have to admit that its been a while since I've been able to peruse like I used to but I want to get back to your site soon and have a "looksie".
Rickmanlover, I love your idea about sharing AR stuff on eMule but please be careful not to put anything out there that is readily available to purchase. I wouldn't want to see you get into trouble. But if you have his really rare stuff (only available through eBay), that would be terrific!
Comments: *cringe* I give a lecture on language clarity and then type "find" instead of "found"...Sorry!
Comments: Sam -- Hope you don't think we're picking on a newbee (or is it "newby"?), but help us non-British folk by writing a bit clearer. You must have exciting stories to tell and we don't want to miss anything. BTW -- I asked before how you find this site. Would really like to hear your explaination. A bit off topic but speaking of language...I compiled my London vacation photos into a travelogue that I've presented for a few organizations. My title: "I thought the British spoke English?" Just a fun little tweak at how Americans and Brits speak the same language so differently. One quick example: When my cab was stuck in traffic, the cabbie exclaimed, "I'm going potty up here!" *snort*. He meant 'going crazy'. But in the states, that means...ah...well...it's a child's word for something that would be more appropriate to do in the toilet, not the front seat of a cab! As a journalist, I found the whole interplay of words delightful!

Comments: from AR's interview in Arena: Q. How the Dickens are you? A. Tolerably well, thank you. Q. The best thing about being British? A. The language.

Comments: I think the play will run here. Just wish I could go see it. The theater planning to run it now doesn't seem likely to back out any time soon. I know there are people who won't agree with it and other WILL agree and that's what happens in art and theater and that's how it should be. If people feel they are likely to get really angry about the play then it's their responsibility to express their feelings appropriately. So I sure hope the play goes on no matter what the world is like. Miriam
What is your location? PA, USA Comments: It's the same here, Sam. I worked with a newly-hired editor of a small-town newspaper who had a degree in journalism but could barely write an understandable sentence. He said he didn't think you needed to know the language anymore because of spelling and grammar checkers . . . only he never used them! Really, it's what we deserve for having such a complicated, convoluted, confusing and often nonsensical language. There was a movement a few years ago to reorganize the language, but that's worse than changing from our crazy system to the metric system. People just hate change . . . even if it is logical . . . and even easier.
What is your location? london Comments: Hello again, My goodness you would be so surprised at the lack of wordmanship here in the UK paper industry,I am at fault many times, thank goodness for spellcheck!!! I have to confess that I do not check my spelling here,I find it quite refreshing to let myself just go!!!! And,no offence taken what so ever,honest... So,does anyone else think that Mr Rickman's play will still go ahead in the US due to the situation abroad!!!! Sam
Comments: Hey, Ellen, I tend to agree. People who know what there doing with language enough to get hired--even at a tabloid--say things clearly, even if it that Elvis has been seen at the local Hilton. Joyce
Comments: You obviously don't read many British tabloid papers, do you Ellen?
Comments: What confuses me is how a professional journalist for a major newspaper can't spell, can't punctuate, can't tell "who" from "whom," can't manage common syntax and usage, and can't write a clear statement describing an event (or is it two events?). Professionals don't drop their skills when they aren't getting paid. The many professional writers I work with care passionately about the precision and accuracy of their prose in every situation, including guest books.
What is your location? Conestoga, PA Comments: Dear Sam, I never meant to imply that you were lying, only that I was confused. The incident in the article was with a man a few years back, and the incident with the pushy lady was MNIRC, where you were also. I get it now. Thanks. Generally, Alan seems to be a soul of politeness, but we all know that some folks or incidents could provoke anybody! Sheffe
Comments: Hello everyone! Do you remember the guy that met AR recently? Claudia brought the link from IMDb. Well, today he has posted an entry in his LJ related with the meeting. Here! (Still no piccies, bad boy!) Have a nice Sunday!

So, now I'm going back to paint the garage door.

What is your location? TX USA Comments: Sam, it's great to have you here. I wish I'd known about AR when I lived in London in 1993-94. I'm sure I must have missed SOMETHING he was doing. I was there from 10/93 to 7/94. I walked through Covent Garden and past the Drury Lane theater every day. I even met Michael Palin and then spotted Lenny Henry another day. Lenny was standing in front of one theater when Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders were in a play there. Anyway, London was an amazing experience but sadly lacking in Alan Rickman since I was utterly clueless then. Miriam
What is your location? london Comments: First of all, thanks for the welcome, sorry that I am not in here everyday,I still have other things to do,as much as I would love to be here all the time....and I really would love to.... Ok,that article is old,its been around the houses over here for a good few years, why would I lie!!!I have no reason too...when its a slow news day,we,or should I say, they, will print anything, old or new,to make the paper space up. Also, yes, that was at the MNIRC,I never said that it was old,and there was a woman whom was right by me,who gave Mr Rickman a rather rude time,as for the gentleman,I am sorry,I dont recal him,he was not noticed by me. Just thought that would clear it up.. I hope to pop in again in a few days time,I dont mind answering any more queries...I like to get my facts straight.... Comments: According to this website: http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=1018912006 Sigourney Weaver will be at Edinburgh, but no mention of Alan Rickman attending.
Quote: Weaver, star of Alien, will provide the glamour factor for this year's festival. . . . Weaver will be promoting her new film, Snow Cake, in which she plays an autistic woman opposite Alan Rickman. The film gets its UK premiere at the festival.
Comments: Thank you, Sam
What is your location? New York Comments: Holy Cr...oops,sorry! Cow! I didn't know that the infamous Harvey Weinstein was the distributor in the US. Well, that should most definitely assure the film at least a modicum of success, considering how "zealously" he promotes his films.

Q: Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver starred in a movie titled ``Snowcake'' that I believe was made in Canada and was released earlier this year. Do you know if it will be released in U.S. theaters or at least be made available on DVD? -- Sue O., Montana A: Once again, we have a movie with a great cast. Weaver portrays a highly functional autistic woman who becomes involved with Rickman's character, the survivor of a car accident in this drama. It's a British film, and Harvey and Bob Weinstein of the Weinstein Co. purchased the American distribution rights, according to Revolution Films. I have no word of a release date yet, but if it's as good as they say -- it won raves at this year's Berlin Film Festival -- look to an end-of-the-year release.
What is the URL of your HomePage? (include "http://") http://www.famousartbydee.com Comments: Thanks Sam! I just couldn't imagine him being so obviously rude to anyone like that in public. He was to-the-point but quite polite with the woman with the Snape photo at the Q&A -- although, you can definately "feel" a difference between his happy polite (warm and safe) and his annoyed polite (frosty and quick). The words are the same, but the sudden temperature drop is alarming! And he seems to slip between the two with disconcerning speed! Wonder if that's "acting for the crowd" or "real reaction"?
Would it be rude of me to ask how you found Claudia's wonderful site? It's always fun to hear how people find us in the vast expanse of cyberspace. And I'm interested to hear how a professional person like you, who has actually talked with and interviewed teh man, remains such an admirer.

What is your location? england Comments: The problem is, what can someone in AR's situation do about this sort of thing? Any complaint just looks petty. Just have to grin and bear it - no wonder he's not too keen on the media.
What is your location? Canada Comments: Thanks Sam, i think that makes us feel better somehow. You know, I love my Keith to no end and i would "drink his bath water" but sometimes when i am not in the greatest of moods I will get a little short with him....I dont mean to but I think we all do it sometimes with the ones we love and are close to. I think its the same for any celebrity, they know they are part of a limlight but that doesnt mean they dont get tired of it sometimes and just want to be able to sit down to a meal of coffe without being watched, * oh, they know they are being watched*, or bothered. But Sam's story confirms that stories can so get distorted and fabricated to a point.
What is your location? Berlin Comments:
Sam How cool of you to tell us the truth about that scene. Like bronte said, I'm sure everybody here thinks the same about AR's attitude, but it's still a bit relieving to me, you can read more and more in the media about him being rude to HP fans and such. So I was beginning to get confused.

What is your location? england Comments: Sam: Thanks so much for that info - I think it's what most people here would have expected.
IMHO the clue to that snippet rests in the phrase "distinguished drama critic" with emphasis on the word "distinguished". Sounds like someone with an inflated opinion of themselves who expects everyone to bow down and worship and was miffed when AR didn't.
What is your location? london Comments: Hello, I am a journalist who makes a living working for a rather big newpaper here in the UK,I am a fan of Mr Rickman and having met him a few times for interviews,I have nothing but the upmost respect for the gentleman,he is a very private and talented individual, and he may come across as a quite tense and intense man,but he is in,from my point of view, very polite and very kind to those who are around him..I am only writing this because of the said article that is on here,I read that a few years ago and was incensed,I was there,he never said those words,he was to the point, yes, but never once rude and if anything, the woman was the rude one,I had to stand back and count to ten,I would have had words, but Mr Rickman was very cool and acted the way I expected him to... He may not sign certain pictures and he may not ask to jump through hoops, but why should he... I just wanted to get my point across,I still get angry at that small clip, what a load of nonsense... Thank you for hearing me out... I love this site, its just amazing... Sam
Comments: Opps, I forgot to thank Lex for the photo of Sheila. She is lovely, isn't she. And she does resemble her handsome brother!
Comments: Snape autographs: This is from my lj post about meeting Alan at the stage door at the MNiRC Q&A (sorry to bore those who have seen it before): Quote: A woman held out a photo of Snape to be signed -- and we all know how he feels about that! He politely shook his head and said, "I don't sign Snape photos, sorry." She quickly asked, "Why not?" but his response was so quiet that it wasn't heard. So she asked again, "But why not?" and he replied, "Because I'm more than that."
What is your location? Los Angeles Comments: Makes one wonder if the "distinguished drama critic" maybe was someone who wrote some of those idiot reviews of "Anthony and Cleopatra". Or some other idiot reviews. You know, like someone Mr Ricman has a prior reason to disrespect. I remember reading somewhere that he does not suffer fools gladly. It's probably one of those cases.
Comments: "I agree completely as well! Even if the meeting occurred as reported, IMO, what took place was even worse because the parent involved was a drama critic who should have known better! Although, on second thought, that could be the reason why he did it, automatically assuming that his position allowed boorish behavior!" I didn't even realize the person was a drama critic. Somehow I missed that. I think that makes it even worse. The drama critic is almost using his position to gain favors. It's like "If you don't do this I'll give you a lousy review" or something. It's kind of an abuse of power. The fact that AR reacted negatively to this is even less surprising given this piece of info. Thanks, Miriam

What is your location? TX Comments: I can imagine he might feel a little hurt when people want him to sign as Snape. It's like there's nothing else to him. It's like he doesn't exist except in the form of Snape and really, who wants to feel like that? I think the person asking for the autograph was being a bit rude asking him to sign as Snape. The autograph seeker is also being a bit stupid since kids really ought to be taught that characters in movies are JUST characters and that the people playing the part are human beings with other things in their lives. It must be frustrating that his most well known character is really pretty limited in character development. I love Snape, don't get me wrong, but up to now, in the films, there isn't all that much to him except snarkiness. AR works hard to bring more than that to the role but I expect he enjoys something a bit more complicated and he's so talented that it's sad there are people who don't appreciate other things he's done. I expect if it was a child asking for the autograph he'd have been nicer about it, but this was an adult who I think should have known better. Miriam
Comments: "to be in dead lumber" means to be in trouble eg "I crashed Dad's car now I'm in dead lumber" However "to be lumbered" with something means you've been landed with it eg "I've been lumbered with taking my little sister to POTC!" Hope that helps!

What is your location? Georgia, Usa Comments: Hello darlings. I came across something today while I was cruising for Alan photos. It was a small clipping from what appeared to be a newspaper with Alan's picture, claiming that when a fan asked for autographs for their kids, Alan was nasty, rude, what have you. I find that hard to believe. (sniffle) I'm not sure how old it is, and I'm in no way being critical of the website's owner. (the site itself is very good) Was just wondering if anyone else had come across it. In the meantime, I'll choose not to believe that our sweetie-pie would have behaved that way.

Comments: To all the newbies: Polka dot skirt woman is NOT his sister. She is just one of several unidentified mystery women who show up with him at events from time to time. Picture was taken at HBO's L.A. screening of STLM two years ago, and it has long ago been settled that A.) It is definitely not Rima, B.) It is definitely not Sheila (sister), and C.) Nobody has ever been able to get an ID on her. Can we put this discussion to bed now?

Comments: News on Empireonline:
As diverse as ever, Edinburgh will screen a strong selection of documentaries, international films from first-time directors and recent British films competing for the Michael Powell Award. The Mirrorball strand showcases cutting-edge music videos, while talents for the future can be spotted among the shorts programmes. Big-name gala premieres take in Driving Lessons, Little Miss Sunshine, The Night Listener, The Oh In Ohio, Sherrybaby, Art School Confidential, Hoodwinked, Snow Cake, The Killing Of John Lennon and Al Gore’s climate change doc An Inconvenient Truth. Festivities come to a close on Sunday 27 August with a screening of the new digitally-restored print of Odd Man Out, released in 1947 – the same year that all of this Edinburgh movie madness began.

What is your location? GA Comments: It looks like AR was in Oxford last night doing a Q&A. I found this post by Trystero 49 on IMDb a few minutes ago.
Alan participated in a Q & A for me and 100+ other acting students last night at Balliol College, Oxford, where I'm doing a summer training program with the British American Drama Academy. It was a pleasure to actually meet/see him in person and get some of his very personal insights into the art of acting.

Welcome aboard Rickimam and Chrissi! I'm so glad you found us and joined in on our fun.
Thanks so much for the new pics, INTJ!!! Gawd he looks good doesn't he? Long hair and all. I went to the Cipriani site and it looks like its a combo Italian restaurant with a shop. Cool!
When I first saw the Galway news alert, I thought it might have been a mistake. I can certainly see why Megan Dodds needs a break. I'm just speculating here but I wonder if the old Valmont days linger with AR and maybe he insisted on the change. I know RC wasn't evil like Valmont but still to have to play the same tragic character over and over time and time again has to be a huge strain.
It looks like ALA is VERY good about responding to questions. Thanks to everyone that posted their responses from the organization. Can't wait til August to see what his poster will be! I think Ali-Pat is on to something with the radical political work or volume of plays. But AR has never been into tooting his own horn so I can't see him with MNiRC. Of course, he might surprise us. LOL
That's one of my favorite images of AR, bronte. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Pink Angel for posting the images of the coach and AR. I saw some of the news alerts and wondered what the coach looked like. I do see very remote similarities but not enough to say he and AR are look-alikes.
There just isn't enough time in the day, yall!

Comments: Did anyone notice which celebrity has already posed on a READ poster with the Harry Potter book? http://www.alastore.ala.org/SiteSolution.taf?_sn=catalog&_pn=product_detail&_op=1034 EEEEEK!
Comments: I did ask and the answer was 'Yes'! (Re: ALA poster) Greetings! PS. Bet AR's chosen book would be something related with poetry or an inspiring biography.
Comments: Under the heading of "Never give up - never surrender!":
Poking around on the ALA Store site, I found that there are posters of "TV, Film, and Book Characters" which include 3 LOTR designs - Gandalf, Arwen, and Frodo. The ones of G & A are straight from the movie. The one of Frodo is when he's lying in the tree smoking - only here he's holding a book. (Done for the poster, manipulation, or unused version?)
Anyway, I thought: If there's a picture in the HP movies of Snape holding a book, they might use that instead of AR as himself????? That would certainly mean more to most children. Maybe we're asking about the wrong thing??? We'll maybe just have to keep an eye out in the end.

Apparently Megan Dodds is performing 6 of the 8 shows each week, but they are seeking an actress to perform two shows a week, and possibly to assume the role if it extends past November 19. This casting call is TODAY. I wonder if AR is in NYC?

What is your location? awaiting the storm What is the URL of your HomePage? (include "http://") http://home.earthlink.net/~sa.pe/APLhome.html Comments: I have been mulling over which book Alan might be holding in his ALA poster (hurry up, August!) with the knowledge that people who sit for these photos are asked to choose either their favorite book or a book which has had a great influence on them.
Hmmmm.
I think he will either choose some radical political work or a volume of plays by a wildly innovative playwright. Maybe he will honor his late friend Peter Barnes in this way? I have also seen celebrities holding a copy of their own work in these photos, so maybe he will hold a copy of MNiRC, or even Players of Shakespeare.
Who knows? AR has a great knack for surprise choices. One of his most delightful qualities, in my opinion.
What is your location? england Comments: Thanks Hikity. It is a remarkable pic. I don't think Domenech looks a scrap like AR either. That never once occurred to me seeing the bloke during the matches. Absolutely no comparison!
Comments: Chalebh, shall be bet on a book? I think none of the three, hihi - I am in a mood of argueing today, sorry, maybe had an effect on him when he was younger, who knows . I could imagine that he chooses a book he really loved - and it hasn't to be a children's book as you can see from other celebrities. After all, it's a campaign for everyone, isn't it?
Comments: Bronte, of course. It's my favourite pic - the preacher (Revolutionary witness)
Camerata and Pink Angel, I do NOT see any, absolutely any similarities - this coach is sooooo ugly, arrrrrgh, esp. when he wears his glasses from the 60s of the last century, shudder. Have you seen him walking - no grace at all.
Comments: If someone wants to see Snow Cake in Germany, there is an open air possibility in Frankfurt/Main.
They'll show it late evening on July, 26th in the Brentanobad.
Seems to be the dubbed German version.
Anyhow, I'll be there

What is your location? Berks Comments: Just popping in to say a huge thank you to INTJ for those wonderful pics of Alan. I looked on the Wenn site and it showed a Coralie Robinson also visiting the Cipriani on the same night. Having investigated further it appears that she used to be a Page 3 model ! I assume they were photographed independently !!! O.T. but I was having dreamy thoughts of AR on Sat. night because I was involved in a concert of playing film music which included Harry Potter ( the 6th time I've played it in 2 years !) and Robin Hood , Prince of Thieves by Michael Kamen. It was particularly poignant because we performed at the heart of the British Film industry at Shepperton Studios. These films were in production here so I was thinking that I might have stood on the same spot as AR ! Silly I know ............. !

You can contact me directly with further questions or orders. Thanks, Christine. Trish
So I hope this answers some questions.
Btw: Let me make a guess which book Alan will choose:
The Perfume - Story of a murderer or The Villa Golitsyn.
It seems the obvious choice. But if ALA tends to be more on the children's side maybe
Harry Potter and the ...

Meeting someone? Surely this man doesn't have trouble getting a dinner companion? *waving hand and volunteering*

I get to keep books all summer long. LOL. I also get to hang around with the hilarious librarians there as well as the fascinating art teacher who comes and visits and makes rude comments about what people are wearing. It sounds nuts, but I love it.

Maybe I can blame hormones too. Though I've always loved to be a fan of SOMEONE. It's usually a "flavor of the year" kind of thing. I usually stick with a person until I've read, seen, heard everything they've done and then find someone else. I always have a special place in my heart for all the old ones except maybe the ones from adolescense which embarrass me to no end. ROFL. Miriam

What is your location? TX Comments: Oh I definitely understand you. Hearing his real voice for the first time must be pretty amazing. Don't you think it's wonderful? I'm sure it's one reason I started watching all his movies. I started off just being intrigued by Professor Snape and thinking how creepy he was and still being fascinated and wondering if the actor had done anything else. Then I saw Die Hard. Miriam
What is your location? Indiana Comments: Hi everyone, at first I want to welcome the new ones, especially Rickman's Lover-sooo cute name! At the second thing-I would like to explain my situation and feelings-because you are the only people who can understand: I really love HIM! Really much! Now I'm already in USA (I stay in Madison, but in this moment I'm travelling around Michigan lake). And everything is so new for me... Especially things around Alan. Before small moment I saw promotion for Q.Down Under onTV...ach....
But the most important thing is, if you are feeling like me when(for example): I presented to my family Love Actually for the first time and all the time, when the movie was running, I was thinking just about- what they will do think about him. Or yesterday-I saw S&S for the first time without stupid czech dabbing-and I was fluttering all the time like teenage fan of Leonardo DiCaprio( don't by angry-I like him like an actor :-) ). Fortunately nobody was watching with me.
Please, say somebody that you understand me and I'm not crazy stupid sap. But I believe I'm not alone, am I?
Comments: Hikity, I would love to write you a mail, but unfortunately I have lost your addy.
What is your location? New York Comments: If I had to venture a guess, I think that having to live and breathe a moralistically depraved character 24/7 for an extended period of time could play havoc with your inner psyche. Since Alan seems to be extremely "intense" in his character portrayals, (even though he's not a "method" actor") and takes a great deal of pride in being the conduit between worded page and audience, I could understand his concerns. Wow! I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in his house during that period!
Comments: Snocat, the interrogator was a one off, Valmont was night after night and matinees, no wonder he was drained.
Comments: I've heard that playing Valmont was quite emotionally draining to Alan. And I'm not sure if it was the sheer number of times he had to do that character or if it was compounded with the moral corruption he had to portray. All I want to know is how he managed to get through being The Interrogator in Closetland if Valmont was so difficult!! Valmont never ripped out anyones toe nails!
What is your location? New York Comments: LOL...Classic case of life imitating art!
What is your location? GA Comments: I second your "Gulp", Carolyn!
What is your location? New York Comments: I was looking at the UK Guardian site after reading Catsplay's lovely information regarding LLD and found an article (I'm sure some have seen it) in which Alan says, "Valmont was a cruel part to play for a long time, and I don't think it was entirely healthy for me. It would take alot to get me to do that again. Valmont is so self-destructive, yet he doesn't know it, so you have to play a lie all the time. I wasn't very pleasant to live with during that period." Gulp!! Here's the link: http://arts.guardian.co.uk/features/story/0,,1529386,00.html
What is your location? Brasil Comments: I had already read that interview and it's SO cute when he talks about his nieces. I downloaded from here an AR interview about Snow Cake too that kills me. I barely jump in the screen trying to grab him.
Comments: Ricki, no, the update of the page has not been made. But if I can say sth about me then it's definitely my organisation talent Within 5 minutes I got everything. Write me a mail if you are interested in it as it is OT....

Comments: Hi, The "fist night" (Premiere) of Parfum in Berlin, Munich or Cologne in September: Does anyone of you think that there might be a chance to see AR there? (In RL of course - AND in the movie! ) Frieda
Comments: Claudia, it would be great to go back to Germany for a week or so, but as I started a new job I won't be able to take holidays during my probation time. So, no chance. Hikity, how do you know that it's not on the weekend? Is there a schedule anywhere?
Comments: Snokat, I seem to recall that when that interview originally came out a lot of people thought it was a mishmash of stuff that he's said in other interviews in the past.
What is your location? GA Comments: sue - Queen is my all time favorite group! I loved Freddie, too!
What is your location? TX Comments: I hadn't seen this interview before so thanks for posting it!

Comments: This is a really old and probably already well known interview to most of you. But I just found it a day ago and I thought it really dear. He talks about the fun he has with his nieces.

What is your location? Oregon, USA Comments: Got back from the UK last night. I had a great time, though no AR sightings. Even though I did find myself lost in the Paddington/ Notting Hill vicinity. Shame, I could have used some, uh, directions...
I didn't get to go to any plays either, so now I'm all upset coming back to find that MNIRC is going to be playing again (if I'm reading correctly).

Welcome aboard to Carolyn, Gina, and "Rickman's lover"! Glad yall decided to join us. Hope you have fun with us!
Happy belated birthday Laura! I hope your day was filled with everything you wanted and lots of AR too!
Ali-Pat, thanks so much for sharing Suzanne's MNiRC attendance schedule with us. That's a great idea. I'm looking forward to all the reports. Its just not in the cards for me to see the play, unfortunately. But I'll live through all of you that will get to go, if you don't mind!
RickiNicki! I'm soooo sorry that you're going to miss the Snow Cake screening! Is there no way you can extend your trip??? Hopefully, it will be where we can all see it soon....I hope!
Frieda, don't worry about old stuff. When its re-posted, it gives a lot of new friends that might not have been here to see it.
Camerata, we can only pray he's doing TVG!
noodle185, I use ULead and MS Movie Maker but I posted a link to a site I found last week that is really great fun and very easy to make videos and such! One True Media I love this site!
sue, thanks for the JM poster. It is odd that his picture is in the image but he's not credited either in the larger or small print credits. Maybe that's the first place they went wrong! *grin*
Comments: Hi, RickiNicki, unfortunately it is NOT shown on the weekend so we won't be able to meet and go together, pity!

I was screaming when Italy scored a goal in the latest minuts, because I trusted to the end that Germany would win. However I was glad that Italy's team proved that it could play perfectly! Well dones! Rickmanlover, why do you feel sad? Regards Yulia

What is your location? back to London Comments: Laura, no, Alan won't be there. It's just a very small filmfest, at a small venue. Freiburg is only a small town (though very beautiful!!). Hikity, if you go there say hi to my home town! If it's on the weekend I might fly over... again... my family would be gratefull to see me again.

What is your location? Thesultrysouth Comments: Oh dear AFNH, must just be a Southern heatwave! Been well over 30C down here today. I know there have been storms North of London but nothing here yet (probably saving itself for two in the morning!! I've just had a wonderful trip down Memory Lane watching Queen at Wembley in 1986 on Sky. I so loved Freddie!
Yes Ed makes Jan Man just about watchable. A strange film because it has great actors and a reasonable storyline but somehow doesn't gel.
Comments: HAPPY (Belated) BIRTHDAY, Laura - hope you had a good one! Sue, yes I've often wondered about that pic/illustration too. It was used on the original video release in the UK, and he doesn't even get a mention on it! He manages to steal the show anyway........(and I still love that haircut!) Where is this heatwave that everyone else is having at the mo. Nothing but fog here, it's like entering the Twilight Zone!
Comments: thank you for the answer Hikity and good luck with the game this evening!
Comments: Laura, it must be the sun Alan will definitely not be there, I might go to Freiburg. Ciao Bella
Comments: Sue, that has been on e-bay auction several times - I do not believe in these "selling-outs" .. Laura, no, I won't be there for sure. It's just the film they are going to show, nobody is coming. The same is true for September in Wuppertal. It's only TT and his crew (supposedly his cameraman and some other stuff) who will be there for some Q & A. That reminds me!! If anybody has questions to TT, please let me know! e-mail above And now one and a half hours into the sun until the Italians will be on the run
Comments: LOL, Sue. great find!!!

Yulia: I don't think there is a set time for the chat. The ones who are free usually try to enter and post a call in the discussion board.
All: any news on Villa G.? Do you think AR will attend the festival that RickiNicki posted about?
Comments: Catsplay, I was searching what you requested, but did not find, sorry. Rickman's lover, such a coincidence, but after this clip I felt the same. And do not cry, please, that's okay! Regards Yulia
Comments: Catsplay, Pat from Down Under might help you with this question!
What is your location? TX Comments: Oh yeah, I love this one. I've only seen one other I like as much and I haven't been able to find it again. There's a shot or two from Truly Madly Deeply and one of those is the tearful one that just KILLS me. I wish I could find the stupid tribute. If anyone knows the one I'm talking about please help me find it. When I watch TMD I always watch that same scene over and over because I love it so much. Miriam

I had to watch England lose to penalty kicks (AGAIN!) during my lunch break at work today. I wanted to cry right along with them. Bravo to them anyhow for slugging on with only 10 men. GOODBYE Erikkson! Even though Rooney lost his temper again I don't blame him that much. I've got a celtic temper myself and he's still an amazing player. Cheers to Beckham for giving a good show. He's obviously getting on towards the end of his talents but he's still trying. im just....gutted. -Gina

A bit OT, England lost the match yesterday so sad...
What is your location? Arkansas Comments: I am thinking of going to see MNIRC and just called the Minetta Lane Theatre to find out what "premium" seats were (for the extra $85). All they are is row "H" because that is considered the best view of the stage. I think I'll be happy with row G or I!!!!!
Comments: Maryland, thanx for that clip, that's fantastic! Carolyn, as for Lindsay, I told before that she looked quite strange as if she had something what changed her face. Have a good Sunday! Yulia
What is your location? New York Comments: Hi Everyone! As a "closet" lurker (LOL...that could possibly be an oxymoron, I'm not sure!) for sometime, I thought I'd take a deep breath and dive into your "AR Pool of Squee"! I'm not going to "wax poetic" about the great man himself because obviously, that's why you're all here. Since my family is on the verge of sending me for shock therapy, I figured I should find a suitable outlet for my AOD (Alan-Obsessed Disorder). I did have a comment about the latest pix from the theater renaming. Who else thinks that Ms. Duncan has had some definite face work done, particularly the eyes? It's one of the better works I've seen.
What is your location? Virginia Comments: I just wanted to recommend a video I found recently on "You Tube" entitled " Yule Ball Dancing Lesson" by ninaryan. It's sexy and fun and makes me wish our dear Potions Master could have gotten drunk at the Yule Ball and gone out on the dance floor! I know it wouldn't have complied with the book, but would any of AR's fans have complained? ( Just kidding!)
What is your location? on my way to the best music festival in Ohio What is the URL of your HomePage? (include "http://") http://home.earthlink.net/~sa.pe/APLhome.html Comments: Mchele (Michele?) in Maryland and anyone else who wants to know who is going to MNiRC in NYC--Suzanne has created a page on her Guestbook so people can plan to meet up for the play. You will find it here. All you have to do is email Suzanne and she will add your name and email address on the date you plan to attend. We did this during the run of Private Lives in NYC and it was a great way to locate kindred spirits.
