Hello Ladies! Kristina, you shouldn't worry about your English, whatever you say about Alan we'd understand. It's like in a very popular advertising "We all speak one language-Alan Rickman( in our case), so feel yourself okay.

Ulrika, thanx for such cute stuff!

Claudia, thank you very much for the photos, they are fantastic!

Ladies, I'd like to ask you some questions which I am so interested in. So, is it true, that "

The failure
of
Antony and Cleopatra has steered him away from Shakespeare."? The article is "Alan Rickman: Beguiling monster who made Cherie weak at the knees"

I think here is somebody who was at "Antony and Cleopatra" and was it really a failure?

One more thing, which I have no idea about.:

Rickman again revived his role as the mysterious Professor Snape for the series’ fourth installment, “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” (2005), the first to be helmed by a British director (Mike Newell). Then in late 2005, he began shooting “Zodiac,” a psychological thriller about the famed Zodiac killer who terrorized San Francisco from 1966-1978.

Probably I missed something, or I was abcent when you discussed it? Anyway, please tell me what is "Zodiac". Sorry, if I say something wrong  Blushy 4

Thank you

Yulia

Welcome aboard Maryland and Kristina!  Glad you finally felt comfortable enough to join us.

Congrats to your son, Maryland and I'm sending many good wishes for his success. Who knows....maybe one day he will get the chance to work with AR!  Wouldn't that be something to talk about?

Kristina, no apology needed at all about your English.  You do very well with English.

Ellen that diary entry you posted was fun to read.  AR certainly has a great sense of humor.

sue, thanks so much for the RSC archive link and the review of SC.  I hope everyone will get a chance to see SC in the fall.  I still haven't read any word on it opening here in the US.

Liamath, the link you posted with the Hunniford interview and caps is from Suzanne.  I love that interview!

Many thanks for Laura for the 2002 European Film Awards red carpet video!  Gosh, it doesn't seem that long ago that I was sitting in front of my telly waiting for AR to show up on that show!  And as usual,   bunches of thanks to INTJ for capturing the video for us.

Camerata, your site is getting better and better each and every day!  Congrats!

Last night I was surfing eBay for an ice cream freezer to take to my Daddy's in September for his 70th birthday and thought I'd do my usual perusal of AR stuff and found some pics from Tribecca that I don't recall seeing before.  If these are old news, please forgive me.

Jessica, that part in SnowCake where she asks Alex to put his arms around her and squeeze her really hard but dont touch me with your hands is i think suppose to be a signifigant in some way. Its too bad it makes you feel uncomfortable as it should not make you feel uncomfortable it should make you feel good, you know something, i even did that with Keith one day and you know what,,,,,,,,,it made me feel good. Hello everyone,

At first I want to apologize for my English. But I think you will understand what I'm talking about.

I visit this ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL, BRILLIANT, PRECIOUS site already several months. It took me days and days to see all clips and most of  messages.

Until today I decide to arouse public notice - that I'm in the same boat.

Alan Rickman gives me reason to live, reason to be who am I ( is it understandable ? :-) ).

Beside next things important for me, he is best actor which I've ever seen. Talking about his voice is funny - is there someone who don't love it?

I'm quite young and hope that one day I'll be talking to him, perhaps working with him...who knows...(I'm working on it)

For your information I want to continue study and live in England-my favourite country in the world :-)

On Friday I'm leaving from Czech Republic (country which I hate) to spend summer holidays in Madison at my uncles house. So my english has a chance!

This is a reason why I decide to write my first message (before my departure) and hope to visit this site every day as I used to do last months.

I have a notebook but I'm not sure about connecting to Internet in USA.

Simply: I want to belong to your big family and not be just a calm watcher.

Uf...exhausting :-)

Now I'm going to watch Robin Hood, I haven't seen it for sooo long time!

And sorry for my tenses-I'm absolutely not sure when, which...you know

A new review of Snowcake on IMDb

heartbreaking - and not just for ASD professionals, 28 June 2006
9/10
Author:
xjl-mummy from United Kingdom

I was able to see this as part of the recent Autism Cymru conference, and can honestly say that this is one of the best films I have seen for years. It somehow maintains a balance between the drama, the need to establish Weaver's character without mawkishness or making her a complete freak, and a rite of passage for Rickman's character. There was no point at which I doubted the authenticity of the character's experiences. It does help to know something about autism (I am a parent of someone with ASD and parts of this were so true it hurt) but not compulsory, and I would heartily recommend it to dispel some myths! I can't really tell you more without giving it all away - go and see it! Snow Cake is both poignant and rib-achingly funny in parts.

We were also fortunate to meet the writer, the director and the autistic woman who "coached" Sigourney Weaver. Absolutely fascinating. I can't wait for this to be released and will be buying the DVD for friends and family.

Linda--" have you ever had an orgasm Al?"

Alex--" it has been known"

Linda--"Vivian once explained it to me and it sounds like an inferior version of what i feel like when i have a mouth full of snow, you should try it."

And Caregivers are all types of nurses from Registered Nurses to Licenced Practical Nurses to Nursing Assistants ( wich do not have any medical background). Caregivers provide support to those who are in need rather it be with ADL --Activities of Daily Living ( bathing, dressing and eating) to those who just are a companion of sorts to watch out over those who need a litte direction or encouragment. Usually they do not work in a hospital but in a private outfit that the family of the loved one hires.

I know this as I am a LPN, and i work in a hospital where we are allowed to give medications, needles and support to the Nurses Aids.

sue
6/28/06 at 11:21 AM

Comments:

Jessika, you are right he say's "It has been known"

The other phrase is "It sounds like and inferior version of what I feel when I have a mouthful of snow"

Caregivers is not a phrase we use much in the UK. We would mormally say "carers" ie somebody who looks after sick/disabled/handicapped people. It can be an employed person or simply a member of the family.

In "Snow Cake" trailer Alan is asked if he had ever had an orgasm, I'd like to know what he responds cause I can't understand, is it "It has been known"?

And then Weaver says to him "it sounds like and inferior version of what I feel when I have ... now". What she says in the "..."???

And another tiny thing... what does "caregivers" mean? At that sentence on McDonald's?

Dear Hikity,

My son's degree is a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Television/Film.

New York University, Tisch School of The Arts, Maurice Kanbar School of Television/Film. What a mouthful!

Nick is his name and he wants to either direct or write films. When he was a little boy, the first film he wanted to own was "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves". Naturally he can quote The Sheriff to this day! In fact, RHPOT was a favorite of my three boys. ( I have a daughter too!)

NYU has graduated some of our most celebrated directors and actors. Nick had the opportunity to meet many of them.

Hope this answers your question.

Hello fellow AR fans!

I've been lurking here for over two years but after Dee's revelation that she was a Dental Assistant, I had to say "Hello".

I've been a Dental Assistant for over twenty years, the last fifteen at a cosmetic dental practice.  Naturally, I was very happy when AR had his teeth " fixed ". I am hoping to go to NYC to see MNIRC in the fall. I have a 23 year old son who just got his BFA degree in Film from NYU (which coincidentally is the Alma mater of directors Ang Lee and Chris Columbus).  He just moved to an apartment on the east side of Greenwich Village, across town from the Minetta Lane Theatre. How amazingly convenient if I want to come up for the play!

In 1987 I was not an AR fan and could have seen him in LLD on Broadway, and also missed him in Private Lives. I am determined not to miss this chance to see his play and hopefully meet him as well. I have managed to obtain most of AR's films either on VHS or DVD, even "Judas Kiss" and "Rasputin". My husband of almost 35 years is very understanding, as he is the direct beneficiary of my "state of mind" after watching an AR film! ( You ladies must know how that works!) Please pardon my first post for rambling on and on! Please  post when fans are going to MNIRC! I don't have tickets yet!

Regards,

Maryland

I'm coming into this late but...
"The Coat": I vote fabulous! Alan seems to chose fabrics that are lush and soft. I'd bet the coat looks unbelieveably elegant and touchable in person.

"The Teeth": I was a dental assistant for 14 years, but doubts that anyone wants to get into an indepth discussion of the man's dental treatments and oral hygiene habits (if you DO, let me know. I can talk "teeth" for hours! Makes me lots of fun at parties! *snort*)  If this helps the satisfy teeth curiousity: this is a photo I took of Alan on April 28th that includes a big, hearty laugh. Sigh...don't you just know he would be a fascinating dinner companion.

Man, good catch on the teeth! I don't know that I would have noticed any time soon. *sigh* I kinda miss the snaggle tooth look. It's rather charming. And I do so adore his minor imperfections.  LOL!!! Anyone remember the episode of The Simpsons where Lisa goes to the dentist and she doesn't want braces but he "threatens" her with the "Book of British Smiles"? LOL!!! God, that is still so funny.... anyway...

That JKR is cagey about her stories! And I'm torn between REALLY wanting to know about book 7 and not wanting it to ever appear...cause then it will be OVER! And of course she didn't and won't say anything that gives you any real clues about what will happen.

But I have my theories....I like to think that Snape later goes on to open a reform school for wayward girls.....

Wow, I hadn't noticed the price on the Winter Guest Screenplay.  I got mine on ebay for $14 and it is autographed by Emma and Phyllida!  I don't think there is additional useful information in there, other than those and a few other previously seen photos, maybe a one page introduction.  I'd  have to pull it out and look, but it's a very thin paperback book.

Thank you Catsplay, to be honest I was just going through the photobucket and therefore it was obviously not known where the pics were taken from. BTW, is the screenplay book useful as in add. info than just the screenbook text? As I see on the link you gave me it is above 100$ for just 167 pages, so...

From a diary entry posted on the web in 2002, the night that the author had seen PL and afterwards met with AR for dinner:

"I was introduced to Alan's brother and his partner, Rima. There followed a wonderful dinner with wine flowing copiously and conversation covering a wide variety of subjects. I sat in between Alan and Rima. I found him very easy and natural. *He has just had his teeth done,* which Sandy, one of the NY ladies, commented on to him with the biggest stage whisper. Alan repeated the whisper to the whole room to great amusement and Sandy's embarrassment."

Since there is no report of AR's missing a performance and he was obviously able to talk that evening, the only likely process (according to my dentist) is veneering, perhaps combined with pulling the oddly placed tooth on the bottom.

Frieda, Alan had some work done on his mouth between the ending of Private lives and the start of Love Actually in NYC. I wondered if he had in-plants put in. If you listen carefully to his speech it is a bit different, and that little tooth that used to stick out has gone.

I remember reading somewhere that he has had some work done on his lower teeth. We all know teeth are no big deal in the UK, but do seem to be a topic of interest across the pond. I saw a recent pic where his lower teeth looked beautifully (might one say un-naturally?) even and I wondered - but haven't had time yet to seek out old pic of lower teeth. Perhaps someone knows.....

Yeah, I vote "awful" on the coat. Made out of something other than fake fur (the kind my mother has sofa pillows made of), it might be quite nice. I was just thinking he needs a pink fedora with a long feather in it and he could play "Huggy Bear".

But when has this man every been NOT yummy?? Never. Put him a clown suit and it'd be okay.

At the book sale at our local library yesterday I managed to pick up the tie-in paperback novel of RHPOT for 20p!

A short feature in yesterday's Telegraph mag about relatives acting together in films mentioned TWG "Emma Thompson and Phyllida Law star as a nagging mother and her recently widowed daughter in TWG (1998) - 'so very different from our real relationship' Thompson said"

JK Rowling is appearing on Richard and Judy 5pm Channel 4 on Monday. The blurb in the TV listings mag says: "Those eagerly anticipating revelations here about the 7th and final book's title - even its publication date - may be overestimating the forensic nature of Richard's interviewing skills just a bit. But Rowling is the mistress of the long-range tease, so you never know what clues will be available to the attuned and attentive". Since I don't have a TV, will anyone else be taking notes?!

annette: I've just watched the Making of Mesmer clips on the TV download page here. I'm not sure if that's what you are looking for, but I found it totally fascinating. I never thought there were any parallels between my work (I'm a software designer) and film-making, but watching AR work, the process of arriving at a result acceptable to all parties seems to me very similar - you start from different positions and work it out together in the minutest detail.

But I can see how AR gets a reputation for being difficult to work with. I know people like that. They just won't let go. If they feel uncomfortable with something they keep at it until it's sorted. Sometimes it's a pain in the backside, but in many cases I find you have to finally admit that they were right all along.
I want to see Mesmer now. Does anyone know what's happening with it in the UK? I get the feeling it is permanently mired in legal problems.

Hikity/Susan-didn't we pay 25 pounds (about $50) to see it in London (and that included the Q&A!)?  Do NYC tickets generally cost that much more than London, or has the earlier controversary driven up the price? Would there be any chance that they will schedule a Q&A like they did at the Playhouse Theater?

You know...it suddenly occured to me. Megan was wonderful as Rachel, but I remember thinking that she almost looked a little too mature for the role. NOT badly -- she's thin, graceful, perky and youthful! (no insult intended) I just wouldn't think she'd be able to play this role much longer.

Previews are for before the critics get to see a play. They are a bit of a practice run for the Opening/Press night when the critics come and do their worst. Sometimes Preview tickets are cheaper over here but not always. Reviews aren't published during the preview run although sometimes the buzz gets out if a play is going to be spectacularly good (or bad!).

It was a woman at the sink preparing vegatbales (I think) and a man slowly walkin up to her and gettin really close and nearly kissin her neck. This last about 3 or 4 minutes and youre all wondering whats this. Then she turns and screams. That was all the trailer and apparently it was PERFUME - Story Of A Murderer!!! And all it said was Coming Soon!!!

Also I asked yesterday if anyone knew of a distributor for the US for Snow Cake. Please let me know because I cant find it in the posts!

Thanx

$150????? For a one woman play?????? Highway robbery!!

Previews just mean that the play is just starting. I'm not exactly sure what it means, but its mentioned alot in reviews of shows. I think its for when the critics (and audiences, of course) can come to review the play and the owners of the theator can see if it is a successful show or not. Then if something is flopping (like that stupid Anne Rice musical) they can boot it before previews end and everyone can sit back and laugh. Er, I guess.

It does seem odd that the "premium" seats are in the middle. Usually, there is an issue with partial view seats in theaters, meaning that if you sit in the partial view seats you won't be able to see some part of the stage. But usually they don't tell you that and you have to figure it out on your own. Try googling the theater to find where the good seats are.

Cats, I think maybe the seats closer to the stage are a bit too close? Nevertheless, I think my tix are in the second row, Row B (I didn't go for the premium seats).

I'm trying to figure out why the 'premium' $150 seats are midway back in the theater.

Also, it doesn't appear you can buy tickets to the opening night 10/15.  It must be VIP only.

Argh. I've impulsively bought tickets for Thursday, 10/5. What does "preview" mean, anyone? Ticketmaster didn't distinguish between "previews" and other shows after 10/15.

Just announced -- MNIRC will play in NYC this year. AR will direct. From NY Times story:

Pam Pariseau and Dena Hammerstein, partners in James Hammerstein Productions, are bringing the play, critically acclaimed in London, to the Minetta Lane Theater in Greenwich Village. Previews are to begin on Oct. 5, with an opening scheduled for Oct. 15. The play is to run for 48 performances, closing on Nov. 19.

Looks like tickets are already on sale.
