Dee--I agree with you about the characters not really learning anything by the end of the book.  But I also know that morally ambiguous characters are very interesting to AR, so if things were more clear cut he probably would not have attached himself to the project.

However, the offer-demand problem arises with TVG....after you could get it for next to nothing some weeks ago it has become ridiculously expensive meanwhile, because someone was clever...just don't buy it and go ask friends, look in other liberaries - they often work together. If I copied the whole book - which is quite old anyway and could fall apart I am afraid- and sent it to the States it would be very expensive. Cross my fingers

Is Amazon.com the best place to purchase The Villa Golitsyn or even Perfume?  I have checked libraries and book stores and have had no luck.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I would love to read Villa.  My classes will be on a week break in three weeks so I will have a little window to read it.

Hikity & Dee:  Actually, being attached to a film usually means that a contract has not been signed yet, but that the actor has expressed interest in the project.  Basically, it means that Alan has promised himself to the producers, but his contract is still in negotiations, usually for things like accomidations or filming scheduals. At least, this is what it used to mean, maybe things have changed in recent years.  Or maybe the terminology is different for us small time actors

Leanne, I completely undersatnd you and I can give you a short report of Alan's work now and in the future. I would be glad if it helps even a bit. I do not expect too much.

Snow Cake. This opens in September 2006 in the UK.  The US release
date has not been decided as of 5/17 per Revolution Films.

Perfume: Story of a Murderer is due for limited release December 8
2006 in the US. 

Unfortunately, there is no official release information on Nobel Son. 
Rumour has it it will be released Fall 2006, but it has not appeared
on the Exhibitor Relations reports nor is it on IMDB.

The Villa Golitsyn, is currently set to film this summer 2006 in
France (source: IMDB)

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, is currently filming.  It
is set for wide release July 13 2007.

Acts of Charity, this is "in developement" and according to IMDB Alan
is attached.  Because it was only optioned in Feb 2006, there is good
chance that many changes will be made over the next year (or more),
and unfortunately "changes" includes the possibility it will be
dropped by Crossroads Films all-together. 

It's not much, but this is main information, essential.

You can always tell when Alan is doing Harry Potter, his hair is longer because its easier to attatch the Snape wig too......he said this once in an iterview,, dont remember where i read it but it was like in 2001 or something after he did the first one.........i do like the little tufts of hair in the back though but im not sure if i like the " lets show off the forhead doo". I have to admit though....with his schedule the past couple of years, I wouldn't blame him for sending out another SOS.

Ladies, have you seen this

Alan Rickman's assistant, Melanie Parker, asking for help by "spreading the word" with a problem she's having. She said that Alan has been getting SO much mail from people who want autographed photos that he can't keep up due to his current schedule. So she's been having to write most people back, saying as much. But she said Alan feels that this is really disappointing to them which he feels so bad about.

Melanie was really anxious and worried that people might think he's being all high & mighty or something by not honoring autograph requests, which is far from the truth, of course! On the contrary, she said he genuinely appreciate the letters from his fans and she and he feels really awful that she has to write back and disappoint so many people who are writing for the autographed photos (and apparently he must be getting a LOT of requests!). Which is why she is hoping that if we spread the word, people won't automatically assume they will get a autograph and therefore won't feel so let down.

Melanie said she'd let us know when his schedule loosens up and they can send autographs again.

Actually I am not so interested I just wonder.

Believe it or not, our man was the only star/celebrity (whatever you want to call it) that actually gave a few autographs. He's always caring about his admirers. So sweet. In the car he put on a very short smile, when they drove again after the stop.

YES--Alan does put in an appearance in A Maverick in London!  He is one of the interviewees and gets a respectable amount of screen time.  Anyone lucky enough to have the DVD also knows he is in the "making of" feature too.  The funniest thing about that feature (to me, at least) is that one of the other interviewees keeps putting up AR's interview as the standard by which they will all be judged, and then he goes on to imitate him!

Not being in the least familiar with Dan Crawford before seeing AMIL, I was completely taken aback by the man's energy and passion.  The world lost a truly unique individual when he passed, and the theatre world mourns most sweetly with this documentary.

Just checked the Daily Mail weekend mag with the TV guide for the week. On Tuesday under the pick of the day section, there is a programme called A MAVERICK IN LONDON accompanied by a nice pic of Alan. It's about Dan Crawford who founded the King's Head Theatre and discovered Alan Rickman, Tom Stoppard and Victoria Wood.  It's a Sky programme under ARTWORLD at 8pm. Alas I am not a subscriber to this channel, so if anyone is out there is, it might be worth recording just in case Alan does an interview...and then you can share it with us!

Al Hamdulliah, finally really positive reviews. I just wonder where TT let run his tests. Some days ago it was in Munich, this one was in the US I assume (??), and the differences in opinions are interesting enough. Here in Europe it's not dark enough, esp. the ending, there they fear it's too dark for an American audience....interesting, indeed.

It looks like SNOW CAKE is part of the Cannes Film Market, not the film festival itself. The film market runs at the same time and provides film makers an opportunity to show their films to a wide range of international distributors during the festival. Here's what the Cannes Film Festival site has to say about it under the May 18 events:

The Film Market opens its doors today, and should establish a new record by welcoming more than 10,000 attendees until Saturday, May 27th.      Thanks Susan for your detailed report. Just think , you've met AR twice in one month ( lucky thing ). Putting my comments in : Rima IS unmistakeable because she is tiny, a petite frame and probably only 5ft 3" tall. I sat directly behind her at the Chelsea talk. It does sound as if Alan is over-doing it: I thought that last year when I met him that he looked tired. All that globe-trotting must be exhausting. Out of interest I wonder how much time per year he actually spends in London ?

Someone asked him what his feeling were when the new York venue cancelled his play. He replied "It wasn't cancelled it was POSTPONED!" then after some laughter from everyone including him he added that it WOULD be shown in New York later this year.

Going back to Rima Michelle, it wasn't blond, more a fair/grey and it quite suited her. Complimenting Alan's colouring. Perhaps they have both now abandoned the HAIR DYE for the more natural look. It was her, no mistaking.

Meeressternchen and Susan- Did anyone mention in the Q&A about  a venue in New York? I can't help worrying that AR's fatigue and seriousness does not bode well for this. I think that this project has come to mean so much to him that he is trying to do far too much. I wish he would slow down a little.

Ahhh, I am sorry to read that he wouldn't verbally commit to VG yet.  But we've all known that the the roles were never officially confirmed from either he or Kristen Scott Thomas.  But I'm still hoping it will come through.    I really do believe that he and KST would be great together. 

Dee   I believe he was teasing with me, hence the coy smile when I didn't give up.  Maybe he had a colour rinse in his hair before and now he has let it wash out.  Actually, he probably is getting into character for VG. Willy is supposed to look frail and old, being ill from alcohol abuse.

You don't need to be 60 to be tired after all this commitments, but in addition he must suffer a nice jet lag.

I honestly dont blame the guy for looking tired, i mean if you look back since 2005, it is surely the busiest that he has ever been. Right from the filming of GOF  to HHGTTG to setting up MNIRC, to doing Snow Cake to Perfume, to Noble Son, back to MNIRC to doing little things on both sides of the Atlantic--Q&A's, film festivals in two different countries, and then to NY to set up MNIRC and having it cancelled then back in London  to do a little OoTP then back to NY now back it London doing two things in one night after shortly returning to London from NY. Being seen playing squash, seen at charity events etc. He does look in fact a little slimmer, now i hope its bacuase of the exercise and not the stress he might be under. He better take care of himself or he might find him self suffering form exhaustion. But dont worry Alan, im a nurse, I can sponge bath you back to good health and good form.

Although he's not totally back to himself, he's much better and I know all the thoughts and prayers everyone sent were instrumental.  When I showed my step mother (whom I love very very much) all the well wishes, she was just speechless and very thankful.

I dont usually comment,more of a reader really,but I was reading the report of last nights RC and about the lady who met alan,now I thought that the report was great and alan seems to be a heck of nice chap,but you know before he went to the RC play,he was at the theatre doing his bit for charity,then he went to the RC with a Q&A session,and of course he has just got back from the States,now if I was his age,doing all this,I would be shattered too,and I would look the way he did on that night...I just wanted to stick up for the poor bloke,I mean,it must be hard to keep up apperances %100 of all the time....Bless Him...

Im not having a dig here,just wanted to put my point across,other than that,great comments,and am very jealous of the meeting with the great man....

Meeressternchen       Yes it was most definitely Rima, I didn't see where she was sitting during the performance, if in fact she was there for that part. Maybe you missed her expecting her to have that bright orange hair she had in Oct, last night her hair was a light grey/blond.  As I said she came out he stage door with him.  There was a women sitting next to me in the dress circle during the play taking notes, was that you?  Pity we never got to talk!

For those of you who are wondering who Angelo is.....he's my hubby, who came with us for part of the train journey on his way back to work!

It's 9am.......still tired a bit, just got Angelina off to school, she wasn't quite with it!   OK....here we go. Got the 4.50 train to London, we were a bit rushed to get dinner in before we left, so I took make up, combs etc with me, and once Angelo had departed, set about making ourselves presentable. Ever tried putting on lipstick on a rolling train....lol Reached London around 6.30pm, it was a bit early as the doors did not open until 7.15pm at the theater, so we wandered down near the Playhouse where the Pub "The Sherlock homes" is. This is famous for Actors hanging out in. Had a vodka and orange, Angelina didn't want anything (soft) I had to smile when the bar girl kept eyeing Angelina and then finally asked if the vodka was for her!   Duh?    We sat for a while watching people come in and out, very interesting. No one we knew though. Then we walked a few yards to the theater where I took some photo's to waste a bit of time. Sat just inside the door as the wind was a bit chilly blowing off the Thames River. It was different to last time, no security, no meet and greet, I had to get my ticket from the box office in the foyer. We then went downstairs to a bar and lounge area which was quieter than the mad gatherings upstairs. I thought if Alan was here we might see him around this area. I had a coffee and we sat a while. No Alan. I began to winder if he would come tonight as I knew he was at another function that evening also. I felt a little down at this point. Anyway we took our seats at 7.50pm, this time we were up in the dress circle, second row back from the balcony. Could see well though, a couple of young "Chappies" sat in front of us. Lights went down prompt at 8pm and the audience went quiet. The 90 min's flew by, I thought Megan was a little more nervous tonight, she seemed to rush her words a bit in the beginning, but then settled down. The two Gay guys in front gave us another performance, we didn't know whether to watch them or Megan!  Certainly distracting! Poor Angelina didn't know where to look. One was on the verge of having an orgasm!  Lol    Anyway, moving on, I thought I saw Alan at the end of one of the stalls down below, in the dim light he looked and acted like him, so I watched him too, I only had to move my eyes to switch from Megan to him.  End of play...lights up.....applause.  I could see better now, alas it wasn't Alan. We were asked then to come down to the stalls for the Q&A.  As we had to come down from the dress circle we lost the front seats, but sat 4 rows back on the end like before. I went to the toilet then and on the way down I passed Craig and Cindy Corrie, the writer and another guy coming up. No sign of Alan. Getting very depressed now. As I went to sit back down, I saw about row 10 over the there side a familiar face......Rima. This meant the possibility of Alan being here just leapt up, although I wasn't happy to see her knowing the effect she has on Alan. Five chairs were put out on the stage, ummm...Craig, Cindy, the writer, co producer and who else?  Megan?  Alan?  Please let it be Alan....Please let it be Alan.  They came on stage, last one in the door ....ALAN!!  YEAH!!!  He sat on the last chair opposite us. He was dressed in dark blue cotton trousers, black shirt, dark blue linen jacket and brown boots.  He squinted into the audience, but did not scan around like he normally did. He had a good direct view of us too. I thought he looked dreadfully tired, hardly smiled and was very serious. So different to the Alan of last time. Then again it was not surprising, Rima was there.  They took questions from the floor, Alan hardly answered any and when he did they were short and to the point.  Craig and Cindy did most of the talking, at one point I thought Cindy was about to break down and cry, her voice faltered and even Alan looked across at her concerned for a moment. I didn't ask any questions because all the one's I had in mind had been asked. It was an interesting talk though, and my heart went out to this brave bereaved couple. Alan discreetly looked at his watch several times, he wanted to go and it showed. He jumped up quickly at the end and disappeared through the door, I noticed his legs looked very thin and lanky. I looked at Angelina...stage door?  Yeah why not!  But I was a little nervous as to how he would be. We went around the corner to the stage door, and got out a pen for him to sign my play script book I had brought with me, more of an excuse to speak to him really. First out was Rima, she shot me a look as she passed. Then came Megan with the Corrie's and then Alan. Megan stood chatting to Craig and Cindy, Rima was some yards away talking to a couple of girls. Angelina and I were the only ones there. Alan was standing there looking a bit lost and bewildered. I took a deep breath and walked up to him. He looked at me as I approached and I smiled and handed him the script book saying "Could you sign this please" he took my pen without speaking and signed his name. Right here goes I thought, conversation time!   Me:   I wanted to wish you the best of luck with your new film" (Bending down to me as he didn't catch what I said) Alan: Sorry? Me:  The new film you're doing next month I hope all goes well" Alan: What new film? Me: The Villa Golitsyn Alan: What? Me: The Villa Golitsyn Alan: (Looking bewildered again) Me: (feeling a little exasperated) Me:  You know The Villa film! Alan: ah that!......(slowly) I don't know if I'm doing that yet. Me: (laughing)  yes you are!  They begin filming soon. Alan: Do they?  I wouldn't know. Alan: (Looks down smiling) Me: Anyway, I think you would be really good as your character. Alan: Oh I don't know about that......we shall have to wait and see!" Alan: (grinning mischievously) Me: (Smiling) Me: (waving book) "Anyway, thank you for that." Alan: "You're welcome" Me : "Bye" Alan (nods)   I moved over to where Megan was just finishing talking and asked her to sign the script, she signed it under Alan's name. She was very sweet and smiling. I thanked her and saw Alan was still lurking behind on his own. Rima was still some way off chatting. I then turned to Craig and Cindy and said how nice it was to meet them, they smiled politely. I introduced Angelina as my daughter and Cindy said " Hello how are you?........did you enjoy the play?" to which Angelina said she did very much. I wished them a safe journey home. Alan started to walk away then and the Corrie's followed, Megan hung there for a moment. I said to her "How on earth do you remember all that script" she said laughing "I write it down on my hand!"  We all dispersed and I watched as they all walked up the road towards Trafalgar Square together. Bye Alan I thought. See you again one day.   One thing that did shock me tonight was how he looked. Apart from being very tired, he looked his age. His hair was more white more than grey, his eyebrows too. His skin was pale and his eyes barely open. It didn't look like the Alan we know and love, but some old man I hardly recognized.  Nothing like his character of Alex. It was scary in a way.   I took a couple of small video's, one outside the theater, one inside.   I didn't take any pics of Alan, as we were the only one's there it didn't seem right somehow and he wasn't really in the mood.   Sorry this is so long...but you know me I like to go into detail.

I know Alan's Mother did not attend the screening of TSFJG last year...I said THE COMMENT MADE ABOUT THE PHOTO DURING THE SLIDE SHOW WAS THAT THE PHOTO WAS OF ALAN'S MOTHER!!!

I received an email late last night from the theater manager asking if my daughter Angelina and I would like to come back for the special evening with Rachel's parents tonight!   We certainly would!  Have got our tickets and we be at the Playhouse theater tonight! yippee!  I expect Alan will be there supporting Mr and Mrs Corrie. Can't wait!

O/T Anna Massey is reading her autobiography on BBC Radio 4 this week as Book of the Week. It goes out at 09.45 and 00.30 (GMT+1) each day (starting today, Monday) and can be heard at all times on the Listen Again Page. This was the book that Alan Rickman was supposed to have helped her get published I believe. An interesting fifteen minutes.

for those who don't understand German. Here is the translation of the Perfume Trailer.

Hikity- So first (step 1) you need to have iTunes. If you don't already have it you can download it for free at http://www.apple.com/itunes/ Now you have iTunes.

Step 2: You probably have to set up some type of account, I don't remember.  Anyhow, once you are all set up got the toolbar on the left when you have iTunes open and click the one that says "Music Store."  Then inside the Music Store there is another sidebar that says Podcasts.  Its like the third choice down. Click on it.

Step 3: type in "Harry Potter" into the new toolbar in the Podcast section.  In the top part of the page there is a whole bunch of podcasts about HP, and they talk about all different HP stuff.  The only one I have ever listened to is Mugglecast.  I heard the other ones are good too, I just haven't had time.  So click the mugglecast one then just click subscribe.

Step 4: Celebrate, because you have entered the world of Podcast!

I believe he is back in jolly Old England.  Yesterday, Rachel Corrie's parents Craig and Cindy attended the afternoon performance of "My name is Rachel Corrie" at the Playhouse Theater London, I should imagine Alan was also there with them.

(I was very tempted to shoot up to London and buy a ticket)

Secondly, he is attending a raising awareness event to save the fate of London's famed Theater Museum on Tuesday in London along with other actors.

Sarah - Thats wonderful news ! I guess thats why they haven't needed to show at a film festival in the UK other than at Belfast, which seemed to be quite small. Keeping all my fingers crossed for the rest of the world.

In Germany Snow Cake will be released on 2 November - according to Kinowelt Filmverleih.

I emailed Momentum (the distributors of Snow Cake (apparently)) and got an email off them saying Snow Cake will be in cinemas in UK in September!

After finally seeing the trailer on the site, it looks pretty interesting and exciting to me. Although I noticed in the German review (the first one) that he mentioned "ugly" and I was thinking when I read the book that Ben Whitshaw is not ugly. The fact that Grenouille is seemed pretty important in the book to me. But there are always differences.

Hikity, this might help. I wonder if they`ll edit it again after the Munich screening; it seemed most of the ones who went to the screening weren`t satisfied at ALL with the result. Well I have to say this in its defence, it MUST have been a difficult task, the story being what it is.

Sue, dear, all films are dubbed in Germany - and then it is directed, produced, partly filmed and paid by German filmmakers...

I have to admit, I am not that fond of Bernd Eichinger and his productions (the last one - Der Untergang - good grief, what a trash, imho), especially his having been on the set all the time, looking over Tom's shoulder, . Tom has made great films, however, on verra.

Chris, I have no idea whether I have Macromedia or not...but you are right - that must be the problem. I am waiting patiently for Linda, . The imbd is not better on a second glance, it seems that the German guy posted there, too, under a different name. He is quite angry about the discrepancies of the book and the film - and I have to admit that I understand it, but we have to wait and see, haven't we...

Ouch! Of course that's only one person's opinion . . . . It seems to me that in seeing AR in period clothing, one only thinks of Snape - that's the eye of the viewer. But then I used Babel Fish, so . . . I can't see the trailer, either - I only hear it.

Devastating? But the movie seems pretty good from what I`ve seen in the trailer. (which worked for me, how curious. Do you have the lastest Macromedia flash installed? It can`t be anything other than that.) Although I have to say that first scene was kinda creepy.
