luvinthunder - If you don't want to buy the books, ask your public library for an "Inter-Library Loan". Libraries all around Indiana exchange requested books that they don't have in their collections. It takes less than a week to get them -- and costs about $1 a book. That's how I found Villa!

Ali-Pat - I was afraid I'd get slammed for my opinion of Villa. Glad you didn't think my opinion was completely off the mark. You're right - Alan seems drawn to stories that don't tie up into neat packages and characters who are almost tragically flawed. He has the "annoying" habit of making us think! Gee, I hate it when that happens...*snort*

So I have been meaning to write for a while but I have been busy talking to others about AR. *ahem* I mean, "doing my homework." Anyhow, right now on HBO, Something the Lord Made is on. I have never seen it before, and each thing I see him in just makes me like him more. He just did TEH EYEBROW RAISE. And also, there is a site full of AR quizzes. Some of them are good, and some of them are just boring, but they got me to think. Does anyone know what Alan's previous job was? The link to the quizzes is: http://search.quizilla.com/search/?searchKey=alam+rickman&searchby=stuff&type%5B%5D=quiz&type%5B%5D=story&type%5B%5D=unspecified&searchLevel=adv Hope all is well with everybody.

ABE Books still has lots of reasonably priced copies of Villa Golitsyn available.

Dee--I agree with you about the characters not really learning anything by the end of the book.  But I also know that morally ambiguous characters are very interesting to AR, so if things were more clear cut he probably would not have attached himself to the project.

I must say I am really looking forward to the VG film!

Rebecca, 5 $ 70..that's a fair price:

Yesssss, Rebecca, IMO it's the best way for purchasing books. Perfume 7 Euro sth http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/0141023597/qid=1149104491/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_11_1/028-9112170-8729365

However, the offer-demand problem arises with TVG....after you could get it for next to nothing some weeks ago it has become ridiculously expensive meanwhile, because someone was clever...just don't buy it and go ask friends, look in other liberaries - they often work together. If I copied the whole book - which is quite old anyway and could fall apart I am afraid- and sent it to the States it would be very expensive. Cross my fingers

Is Amazon.com the best place to purchase The Villa Golitsyn or even Perfume?  I have checked libraries and book stores and have had no luck.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I would love to read Villa.  My classes will be on a week break in three weeks so I will have a little window to read it.

Hikity & Dee:  Actually, being attached to a film usually means that a contract has not been signed yet, but that the actor has expressed interest in the project.  Basically, it means that Alan has promised himself to the producers, but his contract is still in negotiations, usually for things like accomidations or filming scheduals. At least, this is what it used to mean, maybe things have changed in recent years.  Or maybe the terminology is different for us small time actors

Marlina:  So glad to hear you're ok.  As soon as I heard about the earth quake, I rushed here to check and see if you'd left a message!

Dee
5/31/06 at 09:53 AM

Comments:
Camerata, Hikity, Marlina - Thanks for the explainations of "attached". Sounds like it's a "done deal".

Villa spoilers: IMHO I thought parts of Villa was quite thought-provoking. At first, it seemed like just a shallow story about shallow people -- but then suddenly it took a very interesting religious turn. Willie's questions about sin, repentance, giving in to dispair, heaven & hell were fascinating. But, I was disappointed when the author made another quick turn and ended the book by letting all those deep questions fall to the wayside. The author didn't have the friend (can't remember his name)  ponder the meaning of Willie's actions or ask the same questions of himself -- and  neither the  friend or the girl seemed to "learn" anything. I suppose the author might have done it on purpose (to emphasize Willie's struggle and their fall into debuchery), but it seemed more like he took the easy way out.

Alan will do a fabulous job with the role, but I'm not looking forward to seeing it. It's going to be extremely painful.

Hello Ladies!

I wanted to hear something like "The photos were taken at the Theatre Museum Benefit held..." Thanx, Claudia.

By the way if anybody is interested in getting photos form this site http://photolinkonline.smugmug.com/gallery/1489460/1/71327350   I can give you some photos from there. Because I know that this is impossible to copy them. And I know how to do it. But only some, because this is not really "good".

Tomorrow I am having an exam in maths. I shall take a photo with Alan there! I've got shiver!

Best wishes

I've finished "The Villa Golitsyn" and I loved it so much !!! More than "Perfume". It was so great but I won't say anything because of the spoilers Willy is a great character and I really hope that Alan will play him. I think he could have an award with that character

For "attached", I think that it's like "planned" or "expected"

Hikity
5/31/06 at 03:15 AM

Comments:

Dee, imagination please :

"attached" means that they both have signed the contract, they joined the crew - they are "in the boat" so to say (and we are very happy about this)

Cambridge dictionary for examples writes:

attach yourself to sb/sth (JOIN) phrasal verb [R]
If you attach yourself to a person or group, you join them, usually for a limited period of time:
Being on his own, he attached himself to a noisy group at the bar.

The dic says also this:

attachment:
a feeling of love or strong connection to someone or something: but we don't go into further details here....

"The embrace of the world for this woman, who will now remain eternally youthful, is something that I think was not expected from most of us. Obviously, people from around the world have lived their lives through her. But I don't think a film personage should really comment on an event such as this. It is beyond our domain.''

Helllloooooo everyone!  Its good to be back to the "AR grind".

Welcome to our group Frieda and Maria!  I hope you will stay with us and join in on the fun.  Its been a bit quiet here lately but maybe things will pick up soon.

Beryl!  It has been a long time since we've heard from ya.  Good that you're back.

Marlina, I didn't hear about the earthquake until yesterday and today is the first time I could get back to see if you had been heard from.  I am so happy you and your family are OK but my heart goes out to all the victims and their families.  Its really a sad situation.

Thanks to Lex and CatsPlay for the pics.  Here they are for you to save.

These were taken at the Theatre Museum Benefit held, I believe sometime around May 17.

"Someone you used to know" and Lex_Nixon.Barstow...thank you for alerting me to the link changes.  I am so far behind on updating the site that I don't think I will ever see the light of day.  I'll make the changes as soon as I can.

Well, that's THEIR problem, isn't it??

ET is back, too and already filmed her scenes.

About Alec Hopkins, young Snapy, I found this (huge O.M.G.):

Special mention must be made must be made of Alec Hopkin who player the Vizier, as well as a multitude of other characters. His strong vocal delivery, excellent timing and subtle characterizations often threatened to upstage the others and unsettle the ensemble feel – it is a tribute to him and his director that this never happened.

Does that remind you of anything, perhaps????

So that image of the young snape dude stabbing his rocking horse just reminded me of it.

Acts of Charity, this is "in developement" and according to IMDB Alan
is attached.  Because it was only optioned in Feb 2006, there is good
chance that many changes will be made over the next year (or more),
and unfortunately "changes" includes the possibility it will be
dropped by Crossroads Films all-together.

It's not much, but this is main information, essential.

Good luck to everyone!   Big Hug

Yulia

Hikity- No way, that nose is wayyy too small! I mean, its hard to AR's nose but they could've tried harder, maybe gotten a Frenchman.

Ehehe, I kid. He looks like he will do well in the role. What he lacks in nose, he makes up in sneer. Also, I swear I used to have a rockinghorse just like the one he is riding. Why's he stabbing it? Oh, and have you heard the one about Daniel Radcliffe and Equus?

You can always tell when Alan is doing Harry Potter, his hair is longer because its easier to attatch the Snape wig too......he said this once in an iterview,, dont remember where i read it but it was like in 2001 or something after he did the first one.........i do like the little tufts of hair in the back though but im not sure if i like the " lets show off the forhead doo". I like the tight jeans but im not sure if i like the Captian Kangaroo jacket,,,,,,,,,oh i guess im a little undecided today. Should i have chicken or fish?

Sabine & Alfan - thanks for the news/picture on the casting of young Snape.  Looks to me like they've made a good choice.  Did you also see in the Leaky article that they've made a change in the casting of Bellatrix LeStrange?  She will now be played by Helena Bonham-Carter.  I've always thought she would make a great Bellatrix!

Hikity - Poor girl...to not know our beloved Captain Kangaroo. He was a children's TV icon in the 50/60s. His friends included Mr. Greenjeans and Moose, a shaggy puppet who loved to play tricks (many involving massive amounts of ping pong balls). I did a "moose" by manipulating Alan & Emma's photo, but his jacket and her furry collar just seemed perfect for the tease. (BTW - If that IS the same jacket, I'm really impressed that, after all this time, Alan wears the same size. I know that I sure can't)

Sorry to be OT.

Do whatever you feel is the right thing, Yulia.  I'm happy that you understand that AR is a very busy man--most of his fanbase has known this for a very long time.  Today, he is a very busy man.  He was a very busy man three years ago AND he was a very busy man pre-Harry Potter days as well.  I'm sure a lot of the long time fans can attest to that.

As for me, I've never written AR and never will so its of no consequence to me.

Thank you so much Heike for sharing your photos of The Man in Berlin!  Don't you fret a bit...any new picture of AR is wonderful!

Yulia, when that plea from Melanie Parker first came out about 3 years ago, she sent the request to Suzanne of the Alan Rickman GB and asked her to pass on the word.  I just checked Suzanne's and she hasn't posted anything so far and she's pretty prompt at messages from Melanie Parker.  If you can post where you read it, I might be able to tell if its the old request or a new one.

I have to admit though....with his schedule the past couple of years, I wouldn't blame him for sending out another SOS.

Yulia: I don't know, but I think this is old news. I read this request for the first time about three years ago when I started with the internet. And there it was already old news. It appears on several web-sites which aren't frequently updated.

So, it might apply to Alan's recent workload, but his workload in the last years constantly has been huge.

Pam, Happy Birthday!

annette, than you for the news.

Ladies, have you seen this

Alan Rickman's assistant, Melanie Parker, asking for help by "spreading the word" with a problem she's having. She said that Alan has been getting SO much mail from people who want autographed photos that he can't keep up due to his current schedule. So she's been having to write most people back, saying as much. But she said Alan feels that this is really disappointing to them which he feels so bad about.

Melanie was really anxious and worried that people might think he's being all high & mighty or something by not honoring autograph requests, which is far from the truth, of course! On the contrary, she said he genuinely appreciate the letters from his fans and she and he feels really awful that she has to write back and disappoint so many people who are writing for the autographed photos (and apparently he must be getting a LOT of requests!). Which is why she is hoping that if we spread the word, people won't automatically assume they will get a autograph and therefore won't feel so let down.

Melanie said she'd let us know when his schedule loosens up and they can send autographs again.

Actually I am not so interested I just wonder.

Best wishes

Yulia

Hi there, everybody!

I just wanted to add something here, I've got the impression that you like to see all photos of AR, no matter how miserable the quality is. So here are mine from the snowcake premiere in Berlin. Believe it or not, our man was the only star/celebrity (whatever you want to call it) that actually gave a few autographs. He's always caring about his admirers. So sweet. In the car he put on a very short smile, when they drove again after the stop.

Allright, I hope it works. If not, they are in my Webshots for a shot time:
