Fi - Is the woman on the right with the short hair your mother?  Whoever she is, she is a dead-ringer for my next door neighbor.  She could be her twin!!  Great photo!  Thanks for sharing.

Camerata, I think they are both knocking on a bit to revive LLD. I had tickets to see a revival a couple of years back starring Richard Harris' son but it had such bad write-ups it closed early. It obviously needs the *right* cast!

A number of possibilities have been reported for upcoming Roundabout productions, including Harold Pinter's Old Times with Alan Rickman and Lindsay Duncan and a revival of Christopher Hampton's Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Though neither show was officially announced, The New York Times reported that the former was postponed due to casting problems and the latter has been removed from the website's forthcoming lineup.

Do you think it could be a new version of the 1986 LLD, with Alan and Lindsay ? LOL

Hi Ladies,

I have lurked here for a few years and you have all been invaluable with info so here's some payback.  Thanks to your info, my kids and I drove up to Wawa during shooting and saw a wee bit of that so we were very keen to see the movie.  When I heard about Tuesday night's event, I phoned and sure enough there were still some tickets available so my mom and I went.  To our surprise, the movie was introduced by both the Canadian producer, whose name I forget, and by the man himself.  I was only 10ft or so away and quite beside myself.  Then he did about a 30min Q&A session after the movie.  I think my mom and I were the only fan types in attendance, not related to the autism society.  The movie was brilliant and apparently will be in wide release in Canada on Christmas Day.  AR's character is absolutely lovely!  We then had invitations to the private party at the Roots store, which was quite fancy with a free bar and snacks.  There were less than 100 people there I would say.  AR was drinking the fruity rum punch, as was I to get up the guts to approach him.  He was very gracious and lovely.  I finally got close enough to ask for a photos, saying I had a houseful of young HP fans (I kept my own obsession to myself) and my mom said she needed photographic proof for the grandkids but he said "They probably won't believe it anyway.  They'll say he doesn't have black hair."  It was a terrific night but not very well advertised I don't think as there were quite a few empty seats and no media that I could see what so ever.  He was wearing dark gray jeans (I think) a dark grey shirt, and a black velvet jacket, with the top button done up only, as per usual.  He looked very nice.  If anyone has any recommendations for a site to post the picture I have, I can try so you  can see him.  I was lucky enough to be right beside him for about 20 minutes waiting for a chance to approach, not wanting to interrupt the other conversations so I got to stand there listening to him talk, quite the hardship *g*.  He smelled pretty good too. ;-)

Just saw tonights "The Hour"; and my new best friend George Stroumbolopolous, said that Alan Rickman would be on the show tomorrow(Thursday). He said that his producers told him that since AR was in town that he absolutely must have him on the show.George said that AR was the ultimate movie villian from Die Hard, HP and Robin Hood.Snow Cake was also mentioned,so they will probably talk about this tomorrow, no mention of MNiRC. He also said that the CBC was becoming the "official"AR network because they will be showing several AR movies in the coming weeks.

I'm going to go watch and see if he turns up on etalk! tonight, you never know...

According to the site, the George Stroumboulopoulos show, "The Hour", (which is broadcast in Canada at 11PM, Sundays to Thursdays) will be taping one of its shows on Thursday, November 30 at the CBC Broadcasting Centre in Toronto from 4:30-6PM before a live audience. According to the site, tix are sold out, but occasionally they do have some tix left right before the show. The guest that day is........none other than Mr. Rickman himself.

I don't know the date the show will be aired, though and on the site, they do have video clips from prior shows so maybe this one, as well, will be on their site.

Hi everyone, Karin from Switzerland asked me to post these pictures for her.

This was painted this year by a German woman called Dana Peter. The original was a photo that was taken back in May this year during the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.

I made a post back in October on the Download Haven that a good friend of mine from Germany (again Germany! Her name is Marion) made a “Snape Pillow” for me for my birthday! It is so lovely! It is Halloween design (I like Halloween) with Snape in the middle! The text on the right reads:

One man

One myth

One passion

O/T - Just wondered if anyone can help with some iPod advice?

I've just got a new video iPod which is lovely and I have downloaded U2 and the Boss music vids so I can drool wherever I am LOL .

However, it says you can download your own movies and film trailers etc so I thought it'd be nice to get a bit of Alan on there (well it would be rude not to really)

I was highly delightrd to see tha both In Demand and the  Perfume trailer opened up in my iTunes library so I hurried to get them onto the iPod but they won't go on!!

I checked with Apple FAQ and it told you you needed QuicktimePro which costs about £20. Whilst I am happy to pay this I looked at the feedback about the product and it was full of moans that it didn't allow you to get stuff onto the iPod.

So was wondering if anybody has a video iPod and if they do, what types of files they can get to load???

Sorry to be off-topic (but see, it is sort of Alan related!!)

Pleas email me if you like to save filling up the Board if the reply is complicated!!

I wish all our American friends a very lovely

THANKSGIVING! It has been a while since I was last in the States celebrating Thanksgiving; it has been a very beautiful day filled with delicious food! I like turkey very much!

Happy Thanksgiving to all - I am sure AR is having a delicous Thanksgiving dinner, too!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!  However, Christmas came early to my house yesterday!  I received in the mail the enlargements of my photos taken with AR and myself and he and Kathy. I mailed them to the Minette Lane Theatre and asked  if he would autograph them! They came back to me each with a lovely autograph and "Best Wishes"!  Oh yes, I should mention that when I mailed the photographs they were accompanied by four dozen "Lovely Cakes", tied up with orange ribbons and silk fall leaves, and a very funny Thanksgiving card, referencing the English coming over on the ship Mayflower!  I called the theatre to ask if they received the package and was told " Oh yes! They remember you! They were surprised and delighted!" That really made my day! Of course I wrote that the cookie bars were for "the cast and crew at the Minetta Theatre" so everyone would feel included. They must have autographed the photos and sent them right back, as it was only a few days later that I got them. I had mailed a self addressed stamped photo mailer to use. I can't wait to show the photos to friends. Kathy doesn't know I did any of this so she'll get a surprise at Christmas time!

Happy Thanksgiving,

Maryland

PS I also sent two funny postcards. One shows a room full of ladies from around 1900 which I labeled, " A meeting of your Virginia Beach Fan Club" and another is a photo of Oscar Wilde, taken in 1882, and looking for all the world like Snape wearing a hat! On the back, I wrote, " This photo reminds me of some movie character, but I just can't remember who!" I hope AR enjoyed my little teasing, as I know Snape is a bit off-limits! Hey, I didn't use the "S" name!  If you don't know about the very obvious parallels between the appearance of Snape to some of Oscar Wilde's photos, I recommend checking him out! I have to wonder if it isn't some kind of inside joke. The similarities are many!  If I can get to a scanner I'll post the funny cards and postcards. It may take a while!  When I said "they" autographed, I meant AR and Megan Dodds as well!

Actor Alan Rickman, who was twice nominated for Broadway's coveted Tony Award, and whose first major film role was in "Die Hard" (1988), recently attended the Make A Wish annual gala at Broadway's Hudson Theatre, where he told The Epoch Times that "I'm figuring out whether I can come back to New York and do a play... I'm hoping to be able to do a play."

Okay, I admit it. In fact, it is 'downslooooowding' but that's just my karma, if you paste the address into some Download Manager I guess you'll have no problem at all.

This is it: http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/videogallery/video/download/562?type=wmv

The MNIRC commercials on QXR are played occasionally throughout the day (and not everyday) at random intervals, depending upon when they break for commercials and psa's (public service announcements). There HAS to be more Snape in this next film.  The filmmakers HAVE to have realised this story is now a three-horse-race with Harry, Voldie and Snape.  A critic once said 'If you've got Alan Rickman in your cast, by golly you use him".  Let's hope they do.

PS - You may keep AR for Thanksgiving, but please may we have him back for Christmas?

Wow, that's some interesting news about the Talkback this tuesday. I checked the ticket homepage and they got tickets left for row C lefthand and middle. I even found some flight tickets from my location (Dresden) to NY for only 620 Euro. Am I just pathetic or why do I consider taking this flight? Maybe it's because of the dream I had last night - there was a talkback with him in my dream. Wired! Thank's anymay.

I don't like the Harry Potter series, but seeing as I'm always on the lookout for anything AR-related.... Here's a minor consolation for those who feel that Snapey seemed a little too "nice" or OOC. This person apparently saw some raw footage and mentioned AR:

"Alan Rickman looks fantastic in it, though. One of the scenes with him has him teaching Harry how to read minds (I'm not sure) and Harry can't do it and Snap goes apesh*t on him. Harry goes apesh*t right back, too. It was crazy."

Fantastic that our Snapey is in the trailer.  All thanks to HBP I think - the film people have now realised what all of us here already knew - Snape is a main player.  More of him in the films. Yaaaaaay!

Have to say though, I don't like the way Snape says 'Then prove it'.  It's not nasty enough, not spitty enough.  It's almost how Dumbledore or Lupin might say it to fire Harry up.  I would expect Snape's voice and expression to be more waspish.  (Bit like me on PMT day.)  Perhaps it's different in context.

Wonderful to see the trailer. Thanks for the link.

SALON have named their Sexiest Man Living List:

Who: Alan Rickman
Age: 60
Know him as: Actor

Maybe it's the voice, that low British hum so intimate you find yourself leaning forward when you hear it -- which might be the point. Maybe it's the profile -- unmistakably distinctive and defiantly not hewn from the pretty-boy block. Maybe it's the way he can play good guys and bad guys, and guys whose allegiances you can't quite determine, with equal gusto. Or maybe there's just something about the man that's smart and complicated and tender and a little dangerous that makes your mind start wandering into filthy corners while you're sitting there, innocently trying to watch a "Harry Potter" movie with your kids or something. Whatever it is, Alan Rickman's got it. And at age 60, he seems to have no intention of letting it go anytime soon.

While the classically trained London stage actor gained his first big breakthroughs playing heavies in "Die Hard" and "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," it's his performance in 1991's "Truly, Madly, Deeply" that guaranteed Rickman's seemingly bottomless supply of slavish admirers. As Jamie, his ghostly cello player is so appealing, so utterly romantic and so inconveniently dead, you can understand why his girlfriend is reluctant to let him fully shuffle off the mortal coil. Frankly, a spectral Alan Rickman still beats out a vast percentage of mere mortals most days of the week.

In ensuing years, he's buttoned up in Jane Austen and been a reluctant space hero in a Tim Allen comedy. But whether he's playing a businessman in the throes of marital temptation in "Love, Actually" or a fiery Éamon de Valera in "Michael Collins," Rickman may be the only actor to make a certain world-weary sadness ridiculously hot. It's a soulfulness that hints of deep fires below, a reserve that smolders like crazy, and damn if it doesn't keep getting sexier with every passing year.

Nice appreciation Bruce Springstten I can relate to as well!!

Isn't The Playhouse where Past Times was going to have been?  Perhaps that's why AR went.  Apart from the fact that TW happens to be brilliant, and as we know, our man has impeccable taste.

Welcome aboard Lils!!!  You'll have to let us know what you think of Snow Cake after you see it.

sue, got your email!    Also, I found a neat little program that will convert iTune and other service downloads for you really easy.  There is a free trial but it only cost me $14.90.  Its called Soundtaxi and it sure saves me a lot of time when trying to share music.  One other thing, I think Henry Normal is Angela Pell's husband but I'm not certain.  AP's husband posted on IMDb a while back and it seems that he either posted his first name or maybe his screen name had some form of Henry in it.  I just don't have the time to go over and check.

Meeressternchen, thanks to sue's and Camerata's new piccies, it looks like Our Guy is still here in the US!   I hope whomever is trying to "sniff you out" is doing it so for positive purposes!  If I can help, let me know.

rosi, thanks so much for the new German article and the translation!  You are a star, Dear!

NicketyNick, GA its my uneducated guess that Snow Cake will be screened in the Atlanta area.  I really can't imagine my rinky dinky town having it either.  If it does come here, I'll be one really "happy camper"!  LOL

SnoKat, I hope the new Potter trailer will be online soon.  For some reason I thought trailers usually debut online before the cinemas but maybe its my jumbled brain.  LOL

Susan, I didn't send the Broken Social Scene song that was Claudia. Although I have it on my pc, I bought it from iTunes and you can't send iTune files unless you burn it to cd first then re-upload it on to the pc as an ordinary file. I can do that but it's a bit of a palaver if Claudia already has it available.

Hi guys,

thanks for the warm welcome!

I have found another longer interview in a german newspaper (teleschau) and since there are some questions answered that were news to me, I thougt I would share with you. Here’s the link to the german original http://www.mittelbayerische.de/SID_ed88434c1e56b75127fb269563f44662/nachrichten/panorama/stars/meldung.shtml?rubrik=tschau_g&id=176882

As for the translation I know it’s far from perfect but I would like to borrow a phrase from our favorite man:

Believe it or not – I am doing my best.

Enjoy!

Rosi

Translation of article (I have left out the introduction, as they are only saying who Alan is, and you really don’t need this explanation, do you?)

Teleschau (t): Have you ever thought of quitting your job?

Alan Rickman (AR): While filming "Snow Cake" I sometimes did indeed feel, I simply couldn’t act. A really frightening thougt.

T: Your audience does have a different opinion about that.

AR: That is real success. They do believe the characters I play.

T: The story of "Snow Cake" goes to the heart, but also invites laughter...

AR: The great thing is, that everybody laughs at different places.

T: And yourself?

AR: I laughed a lot reading the script and at the shooting. It hit me completely unawares, as I never know, what new projects the postman brings in this thick envelope. This time the attraction was playing someone with prejudices. I resent movies that only let a story roll and in the end everything is alright.

T: It seems this is your first really comedic role.

AR: Were you never before able to laugh about me? What about "Galaxy Quest" or "Harry Potter"?

T: Not about you.

AR: Well, I really should be looking for a plan B then.

T: How do you feel about seeing yourself on screen?

AR: unconfortable. I always wonder why I act so strange. My voice sounds completely different. It’s not the face I see in the mirror every morning.

T: It can’t be that bad, you have once been voted to be one of the most attractive actors.

AR: If that should be true, it must have been at least twenty years....

T: Your part in "Snow Cake" was especially well received by women. Why?

AR: My character is very sensitive and this kind of men is rarely shown in movies.

T: Why is that so uncommon?

AR: In most movies men and women are very stereotypical. Men are typical men and women are young above everything else. That’s why you read the script to "Snow Cake" and say Halleluja.

T: Are you getting more sensitive with age?

AR: Everything is getting more political, has more meaning and becomes more courageous. The older I get, the more I think about a role.

T: Have you reached the maximum height of acting already?

AR: Sometimes you feel gifted, but that happens very rarely. But there are moments, when I am proud of my work. The problem is, the goal of perfection is as the horizon. You can always see it, but hardly reach it.

T: How do you approach perfection?

AR: As an actor you have to find your centre. But it moves because there are new influences every day, many of them are rubbish though. Actors should war t-shirts saying "Believe it or not – I am doing my best".

T: Have you always done your best?

AR: I think so... no, I’m sure.

T: Many middle aged actresses get less chances to do so.

AR: This also is a problem my film partner Sigourney Weaver is having. It is unbelievable that there are so few good scripts or projects for so many outstanding actresses of that age.

T: How do you feel about being a star?

AR: Actors have a lot of time to analyse themselves and think about how important they are. Look at us: Your job is to talk to me, because I’m a so called "talent". That’s what everyone is called, even if the word in english is more used for particularly attractive women in bikins. But that’s beside the point. My job is to tell you the truth and come out of it relatively unscathed. (A/T: I‘m not sure, if I translated "talent" correctly. Please let me know, how "particularly attractive women in bikins" are called. ;-))

T: Concerning self analysis. Do you feel obliged to always keep composed as you get older?

AR: Angela Pell, the author of "Snow Cake", covers exactly this expectation in the movie. Her own son is autistic and so she knows about the difficulties of such a situation. Sigourney Weaver’s character lives all her emotions without regard of others.

T: Like the scene where she jumps on the trampolin like crazy?

AR: Who knows, maybe it really is a good thing to go running to the backyard in the middle of the day or even the night and go jumping on a trampolin as if there were nothing better in the world. Perhaps all of us should try it.

T: Have you ever tried?

AR: I live in London and the British are known for their unscrupulous boulevard press.

T: The British are said to be reserved...

AR: This reserve is a cliché, that is not really true. We British are as passionate as all other people. I can see with myself, that I let my personal emotions but also political views influence my work. To me the meaning of acting is to be actively bound with the world and to advertise oneself.

T: Didn’t that change after "Harry Potter" when you became the star of all adolescents?

AR: Actually nothing has changed. I don’t like talking about these movies, because the children should be allowed to keep their illusions that there are no actors acting the parts, but that it is an enchanted story, of which they are part. It’s like Santa Clause. Nobody wants to know his real name.

T: Do you think young people can learn something from cinema?

AR: That depends. I have directed a controverse play about a young pro-palestinensian peace activist not so long ago. It was awsome how many young people literally took posession of the audience. They wouldn’t have to agree with the protagonist, but their passion had the rest of the audience spellbound. Cinema can be the same, if only, and that is really important, information flows.

Chlaeb, you need to register with YouSendIt. It is free and once you registered with them, you have more control over your files (you can delete them before the 7 days running time is over / or 100 downloads are done).

Hikity, the file is an archive file similar to zip. You need to download the archive program WinRar to de-compress it. You'll find WinRar here: http://www.winrar-rog.com/eindex.html. Once de-compressed, you should be able to enjoy.

Sorry about the confusion.

Miriam, personally I doubt whether they would have spoken Welsh at home in London. In those days speaking Welsh was very much frowned upon even in Welsh schools. Like most people from "mixed" parentage though you often get taught certain phrases etc from your cultural background. My best friend at school had a Welsh mother and she knew lots of the basics like please and thank you but nothing else.

Hi Brittany,

It is known that mr. Rickman, apart from his beautiful English, also speaks Welsh. His mother was Welsh and they probably spoke it at home there. During the interview session of Snow Cake I heard him say something in Welsh. There was a Welsh reporter who said something in Welsh to the director Marc Evens, who also is a Welshman. Then he asked something to mrs Weaver and she said something like.... Oh, I can't anwer in Welsh, I would just love to. And then Alan said to her: "Say, diolch yn fawr" (which means 'thank you very much') and she repeated that. Then I knew he could speak Welsh, too. I hope that answers you. I also know he once told a fan that he could speak a little German and a little French. On the tapes of the book "the return of the native" he sings a song in French and I heard it once and I thought his pronunciation was quite good. French is quite difficult for english speaking people, for the sounds are so different here and there. But he is doing allright.

Hope that is an answer to your question.

Rickwoman, instead of newspapers publishing fake interviews, it's much more likely that all the journalists attended the same press conference. sue, I have a couple of Gmail accounts and one of mine is "out of order" too.  I don't know what's going on with them but I hope they get it fixed soon.  I had a lot of saved mail and addresses in the saved account.

I had another busy weekend.  Laundry up to my eyeballs and I had my network down all day yesterday due to moving furniture and such so I didn't get to look in here over the weekend.

Welcome aboard, rosi and thank you for posting the link to the Upper Austrian News.  I'm glad you decided to finally join us.

Chalebh, thanks for the translation of the interview for us!  All you friends that translate for us are plain invaluable!

I want to take a moment to officially welcome any newbies that I might have missed the last couple of months.  I've been a VERY bad hostess the last few months and I apologize profusely.

Ok, here is a rough translation of the interview publishe on Nov. 9th in the Upper Austrian News (OÖN)

Freed from the bonds of darkness

An interesting guy. A great actor. Now we see Alan Rickman (60) as the partner of Sigourney Weaver in „Snow Cake“. The film opened this year’s Berlin Film Festival.

OÖN: You are the man with the many faces. 1988 for example you were the cynical, brutal Hans Gruber, Bruce Willis’s antagonist in “Die Hard”. An important role?

Rickman: Yes, because it opened a lot of doors. And it is a lot of fun for an actor to create such a psychopathic villain. After that I tried not to be reduced to play bad guys, because that would me deny every development. But I think I freed myself from these bonds.

OÖN: Until now you played five times the dubious Professor Snape with his oily hair in the Harry Potter film. Are you a Harry Potter fan?

Rickman: Are you one? To tell the truth: I don’t like to talk about these films because out of respect for the children, who believe in these stories, and for whom I am just Snape. We should keep this naiveté like a treasure. If the filming of all the books has come to an end we might talk about it. At the moment it is better to let the things running their own ways.

OÖN: The Harry Potter films have a huge budget. “Snow Cake” had to mange with little money. What are the criteria for you choosing a role?

Rickman: In no case based on the budget. I am most intrigued by those story books where you don’t know on page 12 what will happen on page 15. That was the case with “Snow Cake”. All the time I had the feeling, that I could do a lot to tell the story. In some of the sequences I do like myself.

OÖN: They say sometimes you suffer from stage fever.

Rickman: To become an actor originally had been my plan B. But I implemented it before I started to implement plan A. If I am on the set and I feel dreadful, I often think maybe plan A would have been the better choice.

OÖN: Afraid of routine?

Rickman: No, because all the time you work with different directors and different colleagues, every time you discover new facets. We often feel like you would. If you have written a good interview and it is published in a nice layout, you feel good, don’t you. And for an actor it is wonderful to find that particular moments where every thing fits. Unfortunately they are gone too fast. I remember a Shakespeare production. A wonderful director, wonderful partners, and you know exactly that you won’t be as good as the play. You start to get frustrated… but in general…

OÖN: What in general?

Rickman: … I think actors should wear an invisible T-shirt with the inscription: Believe it or not, but I give my best.

OÖN: Do you feel like a typical British?

Rickman: Oh, those are clichés. That has I feel as British as any fellow countrymen, who are completely different.

MNIRC.com has listed the panel members for the last talkback on Nov.14: M/M. Corrie and the founders of "Combatants for Peace": Yonatan Shapiro & Suliman al-Chatibr.

IIRC, that's a deviation from the original schedule, which was supposed to be about acting in a one-person show.

Sue, though I don't have Gmail, I can tell that a lot of sites are having trouble to load, or that links etc. do not work.

I was about to upload some pictures to a gallery this afternoon and no single link did work for me.
I even cleared all cookies, catch and such, but even then I got no access.
 - But my email is working just fine!

And LJ is still having troubles with userpics etc.
Major bug somewhere around?

I dunno, but these last couple days it's weird to be online.

And i read somwhere too that Snape tell Harry of the Occulmency lessons after class too, but maybe ( i doubt it ) there might be a bit of Snape/Sirius in the movie somewhere.

New Jan........I do know what you mean! It's one of my fav scenes in the book as well!

From what I've read, when Snape tells Harry about the occlumency lessons, it now takes place at Hogwarts after class.

The general assumption is that the particular scene at 12GP was cut. Now I guess there's always a small chance that Snape & Sirius do get into some kind of argument there, but it's anyone's guess!

According to David Yates, he said he has a movie that's over three hours long, and he has to cut.

Carolyn - do you mean they've cut that Harry/Severus/Sirius bit out of the film, or just that they didn't include it in the trailer?  Please let them have put it in the film - it's such a wonderful dramatic scene.

I'm praying also that they haven't cut 'Seen and Unforeseen'.  I happen to think that's the best chapter she's written across all the books.  I know Emma T is in the film, so I'm assuming the attempted banishment of Sybil is included, but they MUST include the run up to the scream, with Snape and Harry at each other's throats.

For those of you who are planning to see Happy Feet, you may want to look out for this:

TLC has received a fairly detailed description of what seems to be the teaser trailer for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix that is due to be shown in theaters before the movie Happy Feet on November 17. Please note, we cannot confirm that this is the actual teaser trailer, and will update with more when we can.

There is more to the teaser, but I thought this would be the most interesting part for everyone here.

CUT TO Harry in a room with Snape learning Occlumency
Snape: "Concentrate Potter, your mind is weak."
CUT TO Harry
Harry: "I am not weak."
CUT TO Snape close up scowling
Snape: "Then prove it!"

Thanks for the link Rickswoman,

I have to hurry a bit because I'm at work but I hope this is still basically understandable. If not, please do not hesitate to make fun of me The sections in the interview mentioning Alan are:

Question: Are you not rather preassigned to the portrayal of strong women?

Answer: I played comedies at the theatre for such a long time! Then I was seen as Ripley in "Alien" and I didn't receive any more funny film scripts for long. They probably thought, I was Ripley. I feel pretty well in the comedy "branch" (department?). A good film script unites tragedy and comedy, just like "real life" does. Director Marc Evans does well to emphasize the amusing aspect of the film at a very early stage in the movie. If Alan Rickman tries to sleep on the couch the spectator knows that it is allright to laugh, even if the film touches a serious topic. Pure comedy or pure drama does only work rarely . It is important that even a comedy has a meaning. If dramas happen in real life, people make jokes about it in order to diminish the pressure.

Question: After "Galaxy Quest", "Snow Cake" is your second co-operation with Alan Rickman.

Answer: I was very happy about it. I did not see myself as the first choice for the role of Linda. It was Alan, wo said that I'd certainly do a great job and that gave me self-confidence. He is an amazing actor and I think he deserves far more movies, which centre around him. This material was written with the idea of him taking over this role. His melancholic wisdom and his human depth are at any time noticeable.

I was just looking at the MNiRC schedule and noticed a couple of interesting things..

1) On the Friday after Thanksgiving, they are offering 'pay what you can' tickets at the 3 PM performance.

2) There's a performance at 8 PM on Christmas day.

If I EVER go to one of these events, remind me to wear scarlet or electric blue.  I mean, AR looks fab in the velvet jacket, but look at everyone in the background.  Black, black, black.

Straighten that knee, Alan - I'm sure it's just the camera angle, but it looks a little camp.

Fab pics, though.  Thanks.

Comments:
Heh. Again, NOT to be judgmental, and this is ONLY my opinion...

AR looks exactly as I would have expected him to, after an evening like that.

(But I love his jacket. I hadn't seen the famous velvet one.)

(However...anyone else think his tie is a smidge too short?)

I'd prefer he had had an evening off, but that's just me.

Cheerybye!

And one more photo, which was made at the Premiere, but it hasn't been here, perhaps. Btw, here  http://www.photonews.com.pt/?page=event&id=2144  are huge pics from the same event

Zorra, thanks for the info. AR must indeed be a loyal friend to Ms. Hammerstein... okay, okay, tastes are individual but you couldn't get me inside the front door to watch a lineup like that, and Kathie Lee makes me itch.

Um. Not to criticise anyone who differs from my opinion.

The 7:30 PM evening at the Millennium Hotel's Hudson Theatre, hosted by Kathie Lee Gifford, will also feature the presentation of the 2006 James Hammerstein Award to Peace One Day founder Jeremy Gilley.

The repertoire for the evening follows:

Euan Morton: "At This Moment"
Felicia P. Fields: "It Don't Mean a Thing"
Liz McCartney: "My Simple Christmas Wish"
Merle Dandridge: "I Don't Know How to Love Him"

The Hudson Theatre at the Millennium Hotel is located at 145 West 44th Street. Tickets, priced $25-$300, are available by calling (646) 336-1500. (There are $25 tickets still available.) For more information visit http://www.onlymakebelieve.org.

I have just read through the current GERMAN GALA magazine (No. 45 dd 02.11.2006) and there is a half page article on "Snow Cake" (as it opened yesterday in German cinemas) including a small "SET TALK" (by Christian Aust) with Alan who was asked three questions! I will write down my English translation and hope you will all enjoy. The title reads: I was really slow on the uptake (meaning he got to be an actor at an "older" age) and was rather uncool! ALAN RICKMAN about his artistic ambitions, London during the wild Sixties and the long way to being an actor.

Q Why have you studied art?

A When I was young being an actor did not seem a serious profession to me. Back then I would not have been mature enough for it. And first I had to find out who I was. I was really slow on the uptake.

Q It must have been a wild time at the College of Art in London during the Sixties?!

A Indeed! But after the first two terms (semesters) I studied Arts and Design. This was the rather solid part of the deal, whilst my classmates from the Painting Seminar decided in future to only paint under the influence of LSD. This was supposed to be cool. So therefore I think I was rather part of the uncool.

Q Do you still paint?

A Yes, and I dream to open one day a big picture gallery (museum) at my house.

For the German fans on this page as a.m. this was found in the current GALA that is being sold right now. The small article includes as well a short info on the movie "Snow Cake" and a couple of photos: a screen capture of Alex (Alan) and Linda (Sigourney) playing scrabble (the photo on which he holds his right hand up and looks up towards the ceiling) and a small piccie of AR during the premiere of "Perfume" in Berlin.

Cheers from wintery Switzerland

Zorra has solved a mystery that has plagued only Zorra for some time. A few months ago, this sighting appeared in the 3 A.M. gossip page:

Alan Rickman swinging a squash racket while walking down Westbourne Grove, London...

Who was he playing squash with? Is this a regular activity of his?

Today, Zorra read this interview with Richard Wilson, venerable British actor, theater director and friend/mentor of Alan:

http://arts.guardian.co.uk/features/story/0,,1936377,00.html

Zorra was struck by this passage in the Richard Wilson story:

Surrounded by younger folk and friends, Wilson has a reputation for enjoying drinking and dancing. "Not quite so much I'm afraid. Ha! I go to the Groucho a fair bit, but usually to eat. As regards dancing, the old pins aren't quite as sturdy as they were. I do still stagger around a squash court." He plays with actors "and sometimes now the sons of actors. They're easy to beat. They don't know the game very well yet. I can stand still."

Aha!  Zorra smiles. Alan plays squash with Richard Wilson. Case closed.

Jessika, I think I'm the one you were referring to, however I don't think I said 'huge'. Perhaps tall or wide. (and for the record, I think he's a great actor too)

Maryland! How FUN that you did that! BTW, I was surfing the movie channels this morning (because I'm an unemployed bum) and found a 1967 movie with Rex Harrison and Susan Hayward called "The Honey Pot." And also in it, a quite young Maggie Smith. She sounded exactly the same and actually looked the same, except just a more youthful face.

We had only one HP costume out of the MANY kids who came by. One Harry Potter. He got 3 pieces of candy instead of two. We did have one guy who looked about 25 who was dressed as a wizard, but that was just sort of strange. Next year, boyfriend and I talked about dressing as Snape and Hermione. BF said he'd have to start practicing his snarl soon.

Hey everyone!  I hope all had a fun and SAFE Halloween last night.  If anyone needs any candy, I have 4 plastic pumkins slam full of candy....I'll be glad to send someone as much as they can handle!  Meanwhile...I'll be feeding everyone at work candy until Easter!  LOL

Thanks for the link to the Megan Dodds Audio Slide Show, Carolyn!  The site must be busy right now cause I'm having problems getting access.  I'll try back later.

Never fear Jessika and Renie!  There are some Ralphy fans here including myself.  Yes, he is brilliant....and it sure doesn't hurt that he's a cutie too!

Well, Ralph Fiennes indeed, but someone said something about his hugh forehead (I don't remember who and I'm not criticizing or anything) I'd just like to leave the link, cause i'm his fan and he's damn brilliant!!

And of course, I know Alan is Alan, but...

There's a nice video clip (3:39) at:

http://www.nytimes.com/packages/khtm/2006/10/31/theater/20061101_CORRIE_AUDIOSS.html?ex=13199 about MNIRC. It's a voice over narrative by Megan explaining her role in the play with some snippets of the play performance itself. The audio is done against photo stills from the play (and there's one of Alan w/her as well).

Sue,
First thought...definitely Ralph Fiennes...I can see though how you might think it's Alan. He has depicted that stance so often in photo's. Hands in pockets, legs slightly akimbo... Easy mistake from a distance, Very reminescent of some of the Dogma photo shoots!

Hi Maryland, I remember that it was you that orginally gave the cakes to AR now. I read your story about it. Thanks to you too. Sounds like you had a lot of fun with the kids tonight, wish I was that creative, but we live on a hill and no one comes to our house...very sad!!! So cute to say that Snape was just by. What fun! I can just see the kids getting into that. Kids that watch the movies or read the books could relate. Me too. Would have loved to see your set up. I am glad people still get into it.
