CatsPlay - You noticed my hands-on-heads gesture! Yeees! It was all for you folks!

Thanks everyone for bearing with my Snape-attack today! Funny...none of the adults knew who I was suppose to be. They kept asking if I was a "Victorian parson". I remember someone once posting that Snape's outfit looked a lot like Slope's clothes. Guess they were right!

Oh...I noticed something else about Snape's outfit. With the way it fits tight to the waist and then flairs, "teh pudge" seems to take on a life of its own! I was sucking in my gut all day! *gasp* No wonder so many photos of AR as Snape magnifies his glorious pudge!

Claudia - So sorry you're not feeling well. Feel better soon!

Hallo.
Sorry you canīt open the link- but I also hab problems and thought it doesnīt work but with a little patience - it worked.
I canīt post the picture as requested because itīs a videoclip.
Harry, Hermione and Ron are doing the homework in the great hall with other pupils. The are talking about the yulball and who is going with whom to the ball.
The best thing is that Snape is in charge of the students - and he is very rude to Ron and Harry because they are speaking.I love it !!!!
I saved the clip on my computer , maybe I can send it to those who canīt open it.
Write to:M.Franke1@gmx.de

Ah. Well then, lol, nevermind. I've seen that clip. It's great. I was cracking up non-stop. Although, it does bother me that the makers of the movie keep feeling the need to change/add things that the book doesn't have and leave out crucial stuff that is in the books. In the GOF, Snape NEVER hits them! The closest he comes is in book 5 when he is LIVID with Harry! It's just really annoying.

Oh, and Elaine,

Have a wonderful Samhain! And Blessed Be!

Came across this Alan encounter story, wondering if it's been noted here.  Interesting....

http://www.diagonally.org/News/article/sid=60.html

Also, watched Judas Kiss today.  I did enjoy Alan in this movie (lots of gorgeous closeups and screen time).  I kind of found the accents comical though, as I do think he lapsed into his regular British accent a number of times!

Does anyone know if this is on Region 1 DVD?

CBA....thanks Sue.  I'll have to remember that one!

Sorry Hikity but I'm going to have to be a Sue copy cat yet again and vote for Colin Firth with a side vote to Jon Bon Jovi from time to time.  LOL

You're absolutely right Carolina! The monthly vote did start a day early.  Dag nab it...and I thought all along we would have a day extra.

I think I will also have to agree with Sue on the yearly vote.  Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp are going to be the tough ones to beat when the yearly vote gets under way.  We will really have to be on our toes....up day and night....gawd, I hope it only goes a month.

Dee, your costume is great!  And the two kids were adorable.

Vicki, it wasn't the emoties that made the book go wide so feel free.....Emily forgiving, of course.  *grin*

I know that Thanksgiving is only an American holiday so I hope all our friends will bear with us this month and maybe even join in with the emoties.

Speaking of holidays....Guy Fawkes Day is this weekend!  Get the firewood ready!

Now I'm off to bed, ladies.  I'm battling a cold and feel like *insert bad word here*

BTW, not one single ghost or goblin has darkened my doorstep tonight!  Is that good luck...bad luck...or no luck at all???  LOL Well, at least the dog didn't have a heart attack every five minutes as I expected and the people at work will love me...at least until the candy runs out.

Sweet AR dreams to everyone!

To get the Harry Potter votes for AR in the yearly run-off when we'll need every possible vote to have a chance against Depp and Bloom, we need to eliminate Ralph Fiennes.  I'm voting for CF now, but if I have to vote for RC to stop Fiennes I'll vote for RC.  It's the only way I can think of to improve AR's chances in the run-off--the tens of thousands of Potter fans who support the films in general, not Snape in particular.

Oooops!  Did I make it go wide last night?   I'm so sorry....I shall be less enthusiastic with my smilies from now on.

Sue - a diddyman's hat????  What is a diddyman?....and why is he wearing a hat?  I'd say Kelsey Grammer and Marcia Gay Hardin could double for the King and Queen of Sweden.

Dee - your costume looks fantastic!  Congrats on your creative seamstress skills.  Did people know who you were?  (Well, the really smart ones did).

They probably stopped the voting because AR was so far in the lead that they already had a clear winner.  Not fair if you're looking strictly at the totals....but since they don't post the totals on the monthly winner board they probably decided to get on with the next month's voting.  I'm sure that everyone starts at square one for the Man of the Year vote.   JMO.

Dee, your costume turned out great!

Ricky, I thought someone here made the suggestion that in the monthly vote we should vote for someone other than Ralph Fiennes because he is in HP and the Goblet of Fire movie and after that is released he will become more popular and pose a threat to AR in the yearly vote. I also like Colin Firth, so that is who I'm voting for.

I really don't think it matters that much now. Orlando and Johnny Depp will be the ones to beat. I know a lot of JD fans and they are obsessed!!! I shall vote for Colin anyway occasionally like I was voting for John Bon Jovi who has now passed Ricky Martin but cannot catch up with Viggo wotsit (who was sexy as Aragorn but a great disappointment in real life!!LOL)

However, I am all for Professor Snape getting his own movie franchise and although I am not a HP fan per se, but watch the movies at the theatre and then buy the DVD's for ... the Alan factor alone (!!!), I know that I would watch Snape's movies, with *A LOT* OF PROFESSOR SNAPE in them, with gusto!

Hi Sandy, and welcome to our group. I hope you will have fun with us.

Happy Halloween everyone! Be safe out there tonight!

Daydreamer....love your animation!

Thank you for the information on Nobel Son, Lex!  I would love to read your AR encounter when you have time to post it!

Excellent finds, CatsPlay!  I can hardly keep up with you anymore!  LOL  The casting call schedule was neat to read.  Also, the Blue Tulip gallery photos are new to me.  I don't recall ever seeing them before.  Unfortunately, the region 1 We Know Where You Live does not have the extra behind the scenes footage of AR.  Its only on the region 2.  This is finally one time the Brits got the advantage of it being a UK production.  Those come to far and few between, if you ask me.  It still irks me to no end that there are differences between region DVD AT ALL!!!  (Ohhh don't get me started   LOL)

Sue, in addition to Eliza Dushku's big role in Buffy, she was also in the film True Lies with Arnold and Jamie Leigh Curtis. I believe she was the daughter of their characters.

Elaine, I'm there with you on wishing AR would do some more TV.  There are so many things that he would be perfect for.  But I suppose he wants to concentrate more on films and theatre.....

Ali-Pat, I think we will have to start calling you "Sherlock"!  LOL  Excellent catches.  I saw the A&E film The Mayor of Casterbridge with the fabulous Ciaran Hinds in the lead part.  Sexiest mayor I've ever seen!  LOL

Vicki...you're a multi-tasking wizard!  I wish I could get myself together enough to multi-task like that!  LOL

Thanks for all the pics, Laura!

Peekabooh, "huggable" is definitely a good word when used in relation to AR.

Please don't throw rocks at me but that picture of AR from behind at the HP premiere looks like he's observing an exhibit at the zoo!

OT.  I think I'm coming down with a nasty cold....YUK. Anyway, I stayed pretty much on the sofa yesterday and I watched State of Play all the way through drooling over Bill Nighy and John Simm (I feel like such a cradle robber with JS LOL) allll day long!  LOL

After State of Play, the first episode of Viva Blackpool aired again--I'm hooked!  I was quite taken aback when I realized that Steven Collins in SoP is Ripley in VB!  What a difference long sideburns and wavy hair make on David Morrissey!  Also, that sexy little David Tennant is quite the clever policeman in VB!

And then it was time for Rome!  Have any of you Brits been able to catch this yet?  You are in for a treat!

Comments:

Well, ladies

Sadly, they have closed the monthly vote for October.

Alan got about 64.710 votes.

This means (just some stats):

- an average number of votes each day: 2.150

- around 90 votes each hour

- 1.5 votes each minute

- and one vote every 40 seconds.

If everyone, who voted, did that at least 4 times a day it means that there have been around 540 devoted Alan Rickman fans voting for him.

Your choice for the month of November is between:

Colin Firth, Ralph Fiennes, Russel Crowe and George Clooney

Now, rest your fingers for the Grand Finale in (December or) January. (Constant Vigilance!)

...Went down to Half Price Books and treated myself to a copy of The Mayor of Casterbridge on tape.  How could I resist?  It was an Audio Partners "Cover to Cover" series book and the packaging is soooo similar to that of AR's The Return of the Native.  Anyway, and here's my point, in one of the early chapters I heard the words "dumbledore" and "hagrid" within a few beats of one another.  I would say that Ms. Rowling has read a bit of Hardy in the past!  (not to mention the name "Diggory", a major character in TROTN).

Nope! Any other takers? BTW why is the King holding a Diddyman's hat?? (Is that his day job?)

Oh well, on such an obscure not I am off to shower and prepare myself for my husband's alst day at work. Well he has been working at home for the last month but tomorrow he is retired!Arggh!! He is already driving me mad. It's like having your space invaded!LOL!

Great, new, never-seen-before piccies!  Thanks to all for posting them!

There is a seriously cool HP screensaver on the scholastic website.  It has illustrations by Mary Grandpre and little HP facts that pop up on each page.  I am putting it on my computer to really drive my family crazy.

Dee - will you be posting a picture of yourself in your Snape costume?  We'd really like to see how it turned out.  Since Snape is described as having yellow teeth and you have your new bright, white smile, I wouldn't worry about wearing a little make-up with your costume.

Would you believe that while I am catching up on the guest book posts, I am also folding laundry, downloading a screensaver, scanning for viruses, voting for AR, waiting for chocolate Halloween lollipops to harden in the fridge for my son's class tomorrow, and baking cookies......phew!  Let's hear it for multi-tasking!

Well, as the pile of socks and underwear grows higher, obscuring my screen, I will say good evening, ladies!  Happy Halloween

tomorrow!!!!

AFNH - Ah...good additions to the AR odd/perverse/dysfunctional/miserable characters list. Anyone have some more?

I'm exhausted! Spent all day making my Snape Halloween costume. Frankly, since I'm not a seamstress I'm amazed how good it turned out (except I could've used a lot more buttons!), but I'm disappointed with my black wig. Just doesn't look right. And I'm not sure whether to wear my regular makeup too (mascara, lipstick...). I want to look authentic...but without my makeup, the patrons will run screaming into the street!

Bit O/T - Just caught the end of Bleak House this afternoon. I had meant to watch it earlier in the week and missed most of the Sunday repeat, too. But what I watched had me hooked!  What a brilliant way to do Dickens. It's filmed like a Victorian "soap" and has a bucket of big stars in it including our mate Warren Clarke and my fave actress number 2, Gillian Anderson (being VERY English). And I'll say it again - it would only have been made better by AR's inclusion. He could have played Charles Dance's character SO much better!

Haven't logged on for a few days, so I bet I've got a few pages to plough through. Have had a mini holiday since Wednesday, and have thoroughly enjoyed the time off. Went to see (Ritchie) Blackmore's Night at the Tyne Theatre in Newcastle on Wednesday night, great night, with a lot of the audience turning up in medieval-style garb. I'm now convinced AR based our George in RHPoT on Mr Blackmore! Same tights!!!

Sue - You're right, AR has done several comedies -- but even in comedies he usually plays rather sad or dysfunctional  characters.

A post the other day (sorry, can't remember who posted it) made me think about all the odd/perverse/dysfunctional/miserable characters he's played: torture, rape, statutory rape, incest, Satan worship, adultery, murder, Aborigine killer, divorced dad, abusive co-worker, terrorist, cuckolded husband, kidnapper, nasty professor, brilliant but racist doctor, slimy reverend, disillusioned revolutionary paster, dead musician -- what else am I forgetting?

I'm really looking forward to SC, Perfume and Nobel Son too, but it sounds like AR will play more sad characters: SC - a freed felon and grieving man; Perfume - lusting father & obsessed constable; Nobel Son - brilliant but dysfunctional dad. (I apologize profusely if my description of AR's upcoming roles are totally mistaken!).  I just would like to see him play someone a little...I don't know...lighter? happier? *can't express myself well and scratches head in frustration*

The 1999 Mansfield Park is not a film for people who like Jane Austen; it's not even "loosely based on," but more like "wildly distorted from."

It's true that we aren't going to make 80,000 votes for AR this month, but 65,000 is possible if we keep voting for the next day and a half.

And, while waiting to vote for him for Most Gorgeous Man of the Year, we can vote to try to improve his chances.  It would help AR get the votes of Harry Potter fans in the final election if we can eliminate Ralph Fiennes and anyone else from the Harry Potter films in November and December.

I saw the new P&P a couple of weeks back but can't remember if I commented here or not!!(Senior moment)

I enjoyed it enormously. It was quite different from the TV version which was much more formal. In the new one the balls are much more as they probably would have been in provincial towns in those days. Everybody looked like they were putting more effort into the dancing and enjoying themselves and eating lots.

The Bennet's house was much more farm-like which it probably would have been as all people would have kept chickens and animals.

Keira Knightley was better than I thought she'd be even though she is proabably too beautiful to play Lizzie.

Mr. and Mrs. Bennet were beautifully played in the TV version and they are here too. Brenda Blethyn (Saving Grace, Secrets & Lies) was great and Donald Sutherland was marvellous.

Now we come to Mr.Darcy, hmmmm..... nobody can replace Colin BUT Matthew MacFadyen did it differently. Colin was sexy but Matthew was brooding and didn't seem so arrogant as more rather shy!LOL He was good though but Colin will always be my Mr.Darcy

ALAN RICKMAN playes the chemistry Noble Prize winner and father of Bryan Greenberg and Shawn Hatosy, Mary Steenburgen his wife and also a forensic psychiatrist, whoīs not only to endure the flared up fight between father and sons but facing though times as one of her patients (played by Dushku) runs away.

Greenberg and Hastosy have to learn to come to terms with their fathers success while being also experts in the field of chemistry and full of envy.
The two are acting close to the grey area between good and evil to make their father look compromised in every possible way.

Co-Producers: Henry Suarez and Ron Savin
Executive Producers: Art Klein and two other guys. (Wonder if heīs a family member ;-) )

Starring: Danny de Vito // Bill Pullman ( policeman)  / Shawn Hatosy / Alan Rickman / Mary Steenburgen and Bryan Greenberg

Hi,

thanks for all the downloads. My connection is running hot.

I've seen the new Pride & Prejudice as well (twice, German and English). CF has a different take on Darcy as Matthew MacFadyen. MacFadyen's Darcy is less "snobistic" and a little more "insecure". I don't know how to describe it in English. The whole set is a different one as in the BBC production. The ranks are spread wider.

But if you don't know the book, I recommend the BBC series. Because in 5 hours you have more background information than in 2. But if you like the book, go and see the film. It's worth it.

Wooooo!  Its always been said that in the fall you get one hour extra sleep after the time change but I never do!  I just get up an hour earlier!  Been awake since 5.  It does aid in getting a lot of stuff done.    I do feel for you Elaine.  It is crappy that companies don't make up for the extra hour at work.  Night workers suffer the same injustice here too.

Hi roberta!  I'm sorry but we don't have any contact with Alan Rickman.  If you want to get your email address to Daniel Radcliffe, you might want to send a letter to his agent.

Alba, you are totally right.  Everyone's political opinion varies from obsessive (like me) to the person that doesn't care one iota about it.

Satai Delenn, no offense meant but I miss the Clinton days terribly and I really do like Hillary very much and think she IS going to make a fine president in the very near future.  I would love to discuss politics in email with you if you (or anyone) would like to.  Like I said above, I am obsessed with it these days and love a good friendly debate.

Hmmm, no AR piccies from LA yet????

The possibility of the vote getting to 80K is looking very dim today. But at least he has won the monthly vote and I am still voting nonetheless!

Elaine, I hope you can catch up with that lost hour in springtime...

A bit OT:Yesterday I saw Pride and Prejudice - anyone here who watched it, too? It was very very enjoyable, Jane Austen's subtle irony (or may be criticism of her time) was very well captured. However, as the books are novels of manner the film, which was quite long, was a bit too much about Elizabeth Bennet (the close-ups en masse made be think of the subtitle: Keira Nightley...is the director perhaps heavily in love with her??).  Moreover, there could have been more landscape shots INMHO. Well, I liked MMacFAyden as Darcy much more than CF. All in all it's a film for romantic women and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Have a lovely Sunday

Cheers, Hikity

Cats Play, I love GQ. It's one of my favourite AR films - although I'm not too fussed over the rubber head. It's his exact comic timing, the wonderful facial expressions (rolling eyes!), the impecibly toned delivery of lines - and it's a generally funny film too. Even my son loves it.

Hi judy and welcome to our great little group!  Hope you will stick with us and post whenever you can.

Dee, you're almost as evil and I am!  LOL

Great news on your CD, Emily.  Sounds like your order was almost as confusing as my Looking For My Brother order was a couple months ago!

Thanks for that fansite, lindsey.  It does look like they are in the know about Nobel Son, doesn't it?

Lex, it is always good to have people in the right places, for sure!

Elaine, I believe AR is to play the prize winning father and Mary Steenburgen (I always like her) is to play his well-known psychiatrist wife.

Congrats on receiving CL, Peekabooh!  Let us know what you think after you've seen it, please.

CatsPlay!  I do believe you have found a pic I've never seen before!  I don't recall ever seeing the pics on the first link.  I'm so glad you didn't give up! LOL The second link, I believe is the site that Peekabooh uploaded the first Perfume television clips.

I'm a huge Poliakoff fan too.  CME was actually the first Poliakoff film I ever saw and I have to admit at first I didn't like it.  I had to get over the incest thing before I could really sit back and enjoy it.  Of course, there was no having to get used to AR as Sinclair at all!

CME SPOILERS:

Natalie got on my nerves too.  I always felt like she was trying to lead her brother on even after she supposedly made up her mind not to do the deed with him any longer.  I was quite happy to see Richard whip her butt in the fight.  LOL

I also have to commend Sue for the background to what was going on in England at the time the film was made.  It being one of the hottest summers recorded and other tid bits.

This is *EXACTLY* how I would love Alan to look during the weekend, or during his off-shoot days.  Alan with longish hair ... longish and slightly disheveled hair ... and facial hair ... with greying facial hair ... (*Gaaaaaaah!*) ... kill me already, why don't you!

Ahhhhhhh!  (*heavy exasperated sigh*)

Thanks for that link, Lindsey. I like how they talk about AR in awe almost. BIG star!! And they do get some good info. Seems like AR would have jumped right in to filming. I guess he is the Nobel Prize winner?  Anyone confirm?

Just caught Phyllida Law guesting on "afterlife" tonight (watching on a patient's tv whilst extracting blood from his finger). I've said it before, I wish AR would do a Brit TV drama! I've been watching Barchester Chronicles and he was so brilliant in that. Then you have actors like Michael Gambon, Bill Nighy, Trevor Eve, and now Ray Winstone all doing, or have done, very good TV drama. I'd just love to see AR in some kind of gritty drama series. Anything!

I have an extra hour to work tonight for no pay! The clocks go back here in the UK and if you happen to catch this night on duty - tough! No extra pay! Just try and catch the shorter one in Spring. So I'll have to do some surfing instead.

BTW, I like CME too. But the end scene where they are walking along the river always makes me a little depressed, I don't know why. And Yes, Saskia Reeves irritates me too.

I watched Close My Eyes last night.  I thought AR looked gorgeous in this movie.   I wish they would have showed more of him in the grey tuxedo with top hat!    I must say, Clive Owens really let it all hang out, didn't he??!  Saskia Reeves annoyed me though.

I hated that movie! I LOVED Alan in it (of course) but I just hated the movie in general. And not because of the content, I'm not at all squicked by that, I mean, I studied about Ancient Egypt, etc. So, the idea of brother/sister involvement? Yeah, it's not cool in this day and age, but, I figure, to each their own. But there was just something about the movie itself that I just didn't like. I have never been able to figure it out. Maybe it's the sister/Alan's wife. She did kind of get on my nerves a lot in the movie. Oh well.

Christina - like you, I've been trying to avoid watching any GoF clips because I wanted to see everything fresh for the first time when I went to see the film.  But curiosity got the better of me and I just watched the "child abuse" clip.  B-A-A-A-A-A-H-H-A-A-A-A-A!    That was great!  I can't wait for this film.  Can anyone see what was written on the note one of the twins hands to Ron?

As far as I know the filming of Noble Son started a couple days ago. It was set for the week after the 16th.
The story's about a son whose father wins a Noble Prize in Chemistry. It's an independent movie and they're filming in LA.
I daresay there're no further informations at the moment.

If I hear anything new I'll let you now. (It's an advantage to have someone close at hand who's in the business ;-)

Severina Snape - Interesting commentary! I'm so excited about the movie. My husband has refused to watch any of the HP movies...until last weekend. I hog-tied him and forced him to watch the first one. What did he say when it was over? "Do you suppose we could watch all of them and so I'd be ready to see the new one on the big screen?" Yes!! My evil plan was a success!

Laura - I've never seen that clip before! Loved watching his expression as she went on about her outfit -- the way his eyes checked her out from behind was so "real"!

Satai Delenn - I'll check out the SWARF threads. Thanks! I've never really thought about his beliefs before and now I'm curious.

Oh, and while on the topic of religion (although I realize friends should never discuss politics or religion): IMHO there is a huge difference between "religion" and "belief". Dogma really nailed some truths.

Catherine has reported on the great things our RADA donation for AR's birthday last year has done!

Hi all

Sorry it's been ages since I last posted anything. I am now studying again as well as working full time, so things are rather hectic!

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have finally found out from RADA about how all the money that was raised earlier this year from the Birthday Donation has been spent. No wonder it has taken so long for the information to filter through - we raised enough to help (administered via RADA's hardship funds) EIGHT people, which is absolutely exceptional, so a big thanks again to everyone. We have helped four students who have now gone into Year 2 of their courses, and four students who are currently involved in the technical (stage management) aspects of their studies. Four guys and four girls. I'm not going to post their names here in public, but just drop me a line if you want to know who are the potential stars of tomorrow that all who donated have helped.

This might (with Suz's et. al's agreement) be a good time to take a quick straw poll as to whether we run the donation again in the New Year again in time for Alan's birthday. RADA, I might add, are of course very keen!

Best wishes all.

CatsPlay, unless I missed it no one has responded to your question about the director's commentary on TMD.  I enjoyed Anthony Minghella's commentary, but he says little about AR.  Most of his observations are about Juliet Stevenson, for whom he wrote the script and whom he practically worships.  You learn a lot about staging and editing the film, however, which I found fascinating.

As for the commentaries/extras on LA and STLM, I only have a vague memory of the commentaries, but AR does show up in cut scenes and other places (love the cut scene from LA).  But mainly the value of the DVD extras is background information.

Happy Halloween to all you partyers and tricksters!

Thank you for the video, Laura!  I've added it to the next update.  His reaction to Helen Mirren's comments are adorable.  LOL

I just got off the phone with The British Library about my CD order.  I was a bit worried because someone told me that she had ordered from Amazon.uk and received a notice that her order wouldn't ship for 3-5 weeks.

The man I spoke with was very helpful.  He told me that my order would have shipped either Wednesday or Thursday and I should expect it within 5-10 days.  I have found that orders from the UK don't usually take that long at all...but I suppose they have to "cover their bums" and extend the estimation as far out as they can.

I told the associate about my friend who ordered from Amazon.uk and his explanation is that its quite possible that Amazon has not received their shipment yet.  He did say, however, that since the CD did originate through The British Library that they have product in house now and are actively filling orders so he suggested that my friend cancel her Amazon order and place an order with them.  He also said that they have had 1000+ orders and that processing new orders would be placed in the back of the line, but of course the new orders would definitely be filled a lot sooner than 3-5 weeks.

Sue, where did you order yours, again?

Fantastic videos ladies!

Re the "child abuse" scene ()

At the press conference this week director Mike Newell and David Heyman spoke about how they both went through the British Boarding School system. Newell really wanted to bring the reality of that to the GOF because its something that hasnt been seen before in the films or the books. There are other interviews too online (I will see if I can find them again) where he talks about what his teachers were like and the discipline. Snape whalloping the kids may not have been written in the books, but it is something that is very feasible -  JKR is consulted on the scripts etc - and apparently has loads of notebooks with all sorts of details about things and characters that have never made it into the books - so very telling indeed...

http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/pottercast/transcripts/gofpressjunket1.htm

Media: David this question is for you. I wanted to ask you in working with Mike and bringing him on board, be brings a certain sense of british sensibility and I was wondering from your perspective can you talk a little bit about that?

DH: Mike went to a school, as did I by the way, that's like Hogwarts but without the magic.

MN: Our school was very....it's very similar.

DH: And he brings an inate since of understanding of the school life. Um, he is very comfortable getting on the floor and wrestling with the kids to bring the, as he did with the Weasley twins, to bring, the sort of the school is more anarhic than I feel that it's been in any of the other films it's a little more anarhic, it's a little madder and a little looser, yes you have the authority of the teachers, but you also have the kids rebelling as kids do, kids standing up for themselves, kids complaining to teachers and I think Mike brings a real, I think it's very true to the schools, the school that I went to and I think it's true to school life in general but it's most certainly true to British schools umm...so, yeah and I also think that in a way I think the nature of the performances its an incredible thing I don't know quite how to describe, but I really feel that the performances in this are more British than they have ever been I feel that there is a complexity and a um, you know, at times when he talkes about the Bollywood theatrical largness in a really positive way to the performances, the way I think Dan is incredibly subtle and nuanced and I think all the performances are a boldness about the performances which I think is very, very British and I'm very happy for that.

+++++++

Media: Matthew Vines from Veritaserum.com. This question is for Mr. Newell. How frequently did you consult with J.K. Rowling about deviations from the book and sub-plots cut from the story line and what about in particular?

MN: Well, actually, um, I will answer it, but usually you should ask David because this is an absolutely key function of David's. Jo Rowling appears to me to be quite extraordinarily hands off, um, everybody says, o we're surprised to hear that, we thought she was very controlling. Well I speak as I find, she wasn't with me and I don't think it's in her nature, I don't think she's like that. Um, we however, David's relationship with her, which is very close, meant that the whole time the script as it evolved and the script continued, you know I had a set of script pages....It's a joke, we've been shooting the film for six months and I get several script pages...

DH: (laughs)...and I looked to Michael and said, "What is this?" and he says, "Oh, we shot them yesterday (All laugh) and it was great." That's right, it was great, yes. I don't know what color they were.

MN: Sorry it's a joke sorry, of course what happened (the operator interrupts the interview and we cannot hear Mike speaking) it's a huge tribute to David it's an enormous tribute to Steve Kloves that in fact they could both of them and everybody around them could be lose enough to see that actually we might get to be going to a place although we couldn't exactly point to it on a map yet, but we might be going to a place which wasn't exactly where the first draft of the script had started out but of course in that the danger is that you lose Jo Rowling at which point you lose the audience, um, because they come in the end for her and uh she was very, very sweet. She was very available. She's not the best returner of a phone call, that I've come across, but she was fine. She gave me very clear things when I needed them, like, what did the Avada Kedavra Curse actually do when it hits you. But, she also had this very strong view how the story fitted into the seven book arc. Beyond that, she didn't control at all, but, of course, it was to David's credit that she was brought into the process just as much as he knew she wanted to be, and not an inch more. How does that work?

DH: Jo is the most generous of collaborators - she sees each and every draft of the screenplay. We want to do that because, 1) I made a promise at the beginning that I, that we, would be true, but 2) because we would be fools to do otherwise. So, we show her each draft, and we also don't want to do anything will disrupt books - at that time Book 6 hadn't been published, or Book 7 - we didn't want to do anything that would adversely affect that order; that would make people read them askant, or looking askant. So, she has incredible knowledge! What's in the books is just the surface of what she knows. She has notebook upon notebook with more material that doesn't quite make the books... But, I think, one of the reasons for the success of the books is because the universe is so clearly thought through. She knows the sixth use of dragon's blood! You could have a question; she know the answer. There was one very significant change that we made, and we called Jo to ask her about it because it was a major - I mean, we would have done it anyway - but it was major. It had to do with Barty Crouch, Jr. being present in that very first seen in the film, with Voldemort and Peter Pettigrew, which isn't in the book. The scene takes place, but Barty Crouch, Jr. is not in it. And, the reason why we wanted that was because we needed Barty Crouch, Jr. to be a more recognizable and formidable presence when you got to end, when Moody turns back into him. Without that, the only time you're just seeing him would've been in the flashback when he didn't look exactly like he did at the end. So, I called Jo and asked her about it, and she said, "Yeah, that could've happened. That's absolutely fine." What she loved about the third film - she hasn't yet seen the fourth - but what she loved about the third film was that it was true to the spirit. That it made changes, but it made changes in the spirit of the work. That's what she has felt, so far, in the inclusive process of the script, and I know she'll feel when she sees the film. You know, she was meant to see it last week, but some personal matters came up, and then she couldn't. She will be seeing it shortly.

Carly Lynda -- Yeah!! I had looked for that photo but couldn't find it! Thanks you bunches! So...the buttons *thinking about biting them off one by one* are on the outside. Is anyone is still awake out there...

On Monday (Halloween) at the library, we are suppose to dress up like a children's book character. This sounds sooooooooooooo lame, but I'm going to try to make a Snape costume over the weekend. (well, who ELSE could I go as? Clifford the Big Red Dog?) I'm NOT a seamstress, so it will probably be pulled together with duct tape and staples, but...

Does anyone remember if the buttons at the bottom of Snape's pants (at his ankles) are on the inside or the outside of the leg? And, all of his buttons look like they are covered with fabric, don't they?

After reading all the posts from today this may sound like ancient history (way back to yesterday), but...will a Region 2 DVD play on an American laptop? I'd really love to have Rasputin on DVD!

Marlina - No, I'm not worried about going back to church. I'm known as the outspoken, colorful speaking, liberal, tree hugging, Independent who wears torn jeans with high heels to church. But...since I'm a very nice person, the people like me (despite these obvious flaws ) and choose to consider me amusingly harmless. *snort* But, God & I are doing okay, I'm not worried!

Has AR ever mentioned anything about his spiritual beliefs? I'm guessing  probably not (he seldom reveals anything that personal). Just curious.

The HP student abuse clip was a hoot -- not really keeping in character with either the book or movie Snape -- but still funny! And my! isn't Harry getting handsome! (But my heart still belongs to Snape!)

Marlina quote,

Anyway could anyone tell me what's Welsh Methodist mean? Is it the same with Christian who go to church every Sunday morning??

Welsh Methodists are Methodists that come from Wales. The only difference being in 1904 they had a Revival that set the Church on fire and the people in the church many swearing wife beating miners where converted to Christ that swept across the whole of Wales. From snippets I've gathered from things that Alan has said I rather think his Grand-parents where caught up in it, I doubt it was his mother, she would have been too young, but she certainly held the same beliefs and tried to convert her children.

Eek !! What a lot of posts since I last looked !!

Hikity : The Watermill is a small (200 seater ) theatre just outside Newbury, an old building with a huge water wheel at its centre, beautiful gardens and restaurant. Its' fame is down to its innovative productions which are often transferred from there to the West End.At present it is in danger of closure because the artistic director is retiring and she does not want it to be sold to be turned into a conference centre. AR knew all about this. Hope that helps !

Hi Bluebeatbabe ! Glad to hear you got back safely. I met up with my family outside the Houses of Parliament. I had to wait 20 mins. for them though and I'm sure the police on duty were giving me suspicious looks because I was loitering ( with intent !! well earlier anyway !! ).

I loved Dee's post about Rasputin ! I was lucky enough to record that off the tv last year when there was a Russian evening on BBC2. I too liked AR's look in Mesmer, Susan CA, and have to admit to purchasing an expensive DVD of that from the dreaded e-bay. However, it is very difficult to come by in Region 2 format. My favourite films that I have watched so far are TMD, CME, and BD.

Morning ladies - now that I have had some blessed sleep:

Re: DVD and the various regional formats. For those in the UK wanting to see American DVDs - a backup option until you can get a multi-region DVD player if you dont have one: Anyone with a Playstation 2 at home (not the new slimline model apparently or the very early versions of the PS2 circa 2001) should be able to play DVDs and games from any region - with an additional piece of kit that shouldnt be more than Ģ20. This is the set-up I have here in London; my DVD and videos are ones that I have bought since I have lived here and also things I brought with me from the States or purchased online from American vendors. All of my kit at home is Sony (playstation, TV & Video player/recorder [5 yrs old] which play and display NTSE perfectly) which I got for exactly that reason - there are things I want that just wont be available here in the UK for whatever reason.

Important: the tv must be multi-standard otherwise its a fruitless exercise. You are better off having an SCART cable in terms of picture quality than relying on the one that comes with the Playstation. It comes with a memory card now apparently - so a good savings there.

Check out this article - explains it simply and far better than I can, including a bit of background as to why we have the muddle of various regional formats.

Customer feedback on Amazon.co.uk - not everyone is pleased... but as I said it worked fine for me - I just need to get a new telly now as the ex has it!

Well explained, Susan. Just a small thing that may (or may not) help. The difference in DVDs is exactly as you say. The difference in VHS videos tapes is US (NTSC) and Europe (PAL). For both DVD and video you need a multi-region player or one that can be "de-regionalized" (in the case of DVD players) to be able to play all formats. Not all players can be modified and I don't know how easy it is in the States to find someone to help you do this.

The only problem for me is I can't lend my American DVDs to a lot of friends here, but I guess that's really their problem and not mine ;-)

I like watching CL there is s.th about the way he portrays the interrigator that is irresistable.

Susan CA

To try to sum it up:  The world is divided into DVD (and tape) regions.  The USA and Canada are in region 1 (VHS tape); the UK and Europe are in region 2 (NTSC tape); and so on around the world.  The machine and the DVD have to be the same region or it won't play.

In much of the world you can buy a multi-region DVD player that plays them all.  In the USA it's a bit of a hassle, though there are ways to do it; but even USA computers only play one region's DVDs after the first three or four times unless you have region-overriding software.  So, for us, the region of the DVD is important.  For many others, not so important.

I hope someone else can explain this more clearly.

But every Rasputin (AR's Rasputin--there are others) DVD on Amazon tonight is region 2, and BOL.com in the Netherlands has a supply, also region 2.

Susan, I'm sorry. I don't know what that means. Isn't a DVD a DVD? Don't they all play the same? Meaning, you just pop them in the machine like a CD, right? So, what does it matter where it's from?

Anyway, I'm all *SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!* Now! lol

I can't wait to see what my fellow S.W.A.R.F.ians have to say! lol. And I can't wait until I actually have that precious video in my hands! I'm NEVER going to let it go! I will never understand the ones that are trying to sell it for $30.00 to $50.00. There used to be one there for almost $70.00 and some moron actually finally bought it last month. I swore that I would not pay that much for a USED copy and if a REASONABLY priced copy ever came my way I would jump on it to own it. Thank you Susan for helping me find a REASONABLY priced copy! Rare or not, those prices on Amazon are clearly trying to take advantage of the desperate and this was one time my pride and stubbornness apparently paid off by waiting for a seller willing to sell it at a REASONABLE price! There is one selling for $2.00, but with no description of the tape, I was more than skeptical of it's condition.

There's a "gently used" VHS copy of Rasputin, Dark Servant of Destiny, for sale on Amazon.USA for $9.00 and change.  The prices for this film will only go higher since it is out of print and supplies are dwindling.  (If you want to see really high prices, try Mesmer, also out of print and--it's a matter of opinion, of course--much sexier.  Fabulous performance.)

OMG! THANK YOU SUSAN!!!!!!!!!!!! I just went to Amazon to check on it thinking it MUST be gone by now, at such a wonderfully low price, but it wasn't (although, lol, it is NOW) and so I bought it! I hope by "gently used" it merely means watched and that there aren't any visual flaws on the tape. I bought Close My Eyes which was supposed to be new and when I went to watch it there were two visual flaws in the video where snow scrolled down the screen and nothing I did could clear it up. I was pissed to say the least and spent a month fighting with the seller because they kept ignoring my emails and I finally had to go through Amazon to get my money back. However, for this Rasputin tape, it did say, that in spite of it being "gently used" it was in "great condition". I truly hope so.

And Dee, there are DVD copies available for Rasputin on Amazon. I merely refuse to buy a DVD player since I have such a huge VHS library. I'm just extremely stubborn that way. Well, I get to now go back to S.W.A.R.F. and SCREAM in pleasure that I will FINALLY own (and be the envy of those who still don't) a copy of the extremely hard to find at a reasonable price, Rasputin, with the WONDERFUL Alan Rickman! *SIGH*. I think I have now died and gone to whatever version of heaven does indeed truly exist! THANK YOU AGAIN SUSAN!!!!!!!!

(So glad I didn't wait to come back here tomorrow! It SURELY would be gone by then!)

Susan CA - Afraid my VHS player died. Do we think they will ever produce Rasputin on DVD?  I already have a DVD of Mesmer. AR looks quite handsome in it, but I'm more attracted to his tougher, scruffy-looking rolls, like RHPoT, AABA, HP, QDU, the Preacher... I'll bet he would've looked great as a "rocker" instead of a "mod"!

After learning a valuable lesson on humility, I waited until the teens vacated the premises before starting the Closet Land clip. (nasty little snots - probably tell their folks that Mrs. D watches Russian porn while Mr. D is out of town).

Satai Delenn -- I agree! Rasputin does inspire *cough* shall we say, warm, tingly feelings, doesn't it? But, Methodists aren't allowed to say, "Holy Mother of God!!!!!!!" As Thea would probably confirm, all we can do is give a strained smile and whisper, "oh, my."

(NO disrespect towards God -- just frustration with the dull, inert, plodding, unimaginative people that I've dealt with today!)

Closet Land Clip --wow...you simply cannot tear your eyes away AR. While expressions of pleasure and agony flicker across his handsome face, his interrogator slips between tormentor to tormented with a blink of the eye. There were a few things I didn't understand (why did he vomit after kissing her -- was it the tomatoes/garlic or because what he was doing upset him so much?). Now I need to decide if I want to purchase and watch the whole painful movie.

Thanks to Claudia for sharing such an extensive clip - about 20 minutes!

After seeing CL, I think I'll hold off on In Demand until tomorrow!

Sorry for the double post, but..... I really can't think coherently right now. I found the Rasputin clip..... Oh wow.... I'm trying to stop drooling and um, well, I will be nice and not describe my physical state after watching that, except to say..... "HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I WANT THAT MOVIE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, folks...I thought we were friends. I thought you all cared. I thought we all watched out for each other here.

So, why, why, why didn't anyone warn me that it might be slightly inappropriate to watch the Rasputin clip in a small room...crowded with teenagers...in the middle of a conservative Methodist church???!!!

The room was so still as the teens worked quietly on their homework, when all of a sudden:

"When you kiss me you're kissing God".

As I frantically searched for the volume button, the kids were craning their necks to see my screen --  and Rasputin is sliding his hand up the woman's skirt. By the time I finally found the pause button, AR was *cough* showing her God's love with gusto.

egads... Do Methodists believe in excommunication? Shunning? Stoning?

But, wOw!! Even with the scraggly beard AR is sooooo HOT! His voice, his intensity...I've got to get this movie!!

Now, I'm off to watch Closetland. Anything you should warn me about?

Oh man Dee! That's great! lol. Well, if you want to get "technical"...... Just tell everyone it's a religious movie.... I mean, you could then justify the "When you kiss me you're kissing God" line..... lol. I was cracking up reading your post! lol. Oh, as for Closetland.... I wouldn't watch that one in a church..... the content on that one is worse than Rasputin's (I'm assuming since I've seen the movie, but not the clip here). BTW, where'd you get the Rasputin clip? I want that movie so bad but I don't have a DVD player (and I'm not getting one) and the USED copies of it on VHS are just too bloody expensive to even contemplate!

If you do a find on 'rickman' - you will find a number of this gentleman's blog entries and some more very clear, very lovely photos of Alan attending some event in Ottawa in May.  Be sure and keep doing 'find' throughout the entire page, there are lots of superb photos.  Rima is in a couple of pics too.

I watch Nancy Grace almost as religiously as I watch the news. Anyway, they are reporting that a private detective that has worked for a large number of big "slebs" has been arrested for wire-tapping and witness tampering.  Anyway, they are reporting that that there are a lot of slebs "shaking in their boot" right now and one of the slebs this guy, Anthony Pelicano, has worked for is none other than.....Kevin Costner!

Carly Lynda, maybe he's tired of being fought over, bothered, worshipped, stalked and drooled upon?

Even assuming that that *MAY* or *MAY NOT* be true, first of all, it would be wrong to speculate that Alan's disdain for everything that goes on "eBay" with his likeness *SHOULD* or *SHOULD NOT* be lumped together with the fact that He *MAY* or *MAY NOT* be "tired of being fought over, bothered, worshipped, stalked and drooled upon", all of the latter, unfortunately, being the all-too-common "perils" of a well-established and revered actor, may I add.

Secondly, his agent and/or management handlers are indeed paid handsomely to act as "buffers" between an actor and his fans, no matter how fervent and/or militant towards his career and/or his causes they may be, and in Alan's case, by implying that he *MAY* or *MAY NOT* appreciate his fans' fussing over him would be, in my opinion, wrong to suggest at this juncture, as neither Alan himself nor anyone from his management team has made such a statement.

I feel that such a speculation would only serve to curb a fan's

enthusiasm about her/his admiration for Alan or wane her/his desire to "look after his interests", PROVIDED that any such endeavours are executed with the utmost integrity and best of intentions.

Moreover, as well organized as Alan's management team may be, which without a doubt must benefit from the advice of the top legal eagles in town, I am *CONVINCED* that his handlers do not and cannot know everything that goes on or is said about Alan ALL THE TIME and in a timely fashion, especially with the vastness and speed with which information is spread over the Internet--that un-regimented and un-policed territory of cyber pollution.

I wish to state that the above is *MY* personal opinion only on the matter and should not be construed as reflective of the views, individual or collective, of everyone who adheres to this Guest Book.

Uhmmmmm ... I really don't understand the corrolation you are trying to make between "eBay" and "fans who constantly contact his agent, Melanie Parker ... looking after his interests", Severina.

It seems to me that Alan purportedly objects to things (mostly photos, I presume) relating to him being peddled on eBay, and I personally fully support his reservations 150%.

So, how does "fans who constantly contact his agent, Melanie Parker ... looking after his interests" fit into the eBay formula???

luvvy noun {C} (ALSO luvvie) HUMOROUS an actor or actress who speaks and acts in a very artificial and noticeable way

It is used in a slightly derogatory way usually, the sort of person who might cry when they get an award LOL

Lord Attenborough (Dickie) is always used as an example  because he is always supposed to say "Luvvie, Darling". However I read an interview with him and he admits to using Darling a lot because he cannot remember people's names but denies Luvvie.

Luvvie also used to be used a lot by the more working class sort of  Eastend woman eg the cleaning lady saying "Alright luvvie?"

Difficult to describe what luvvy means here. It's used to describe the kind of actor who went to Rada or similar and who is, well, over the top. I guess. Anybody like to add something?

To Sue and Alanfan:

Thanks a bunch for teaching me a new word today of the British lingo:  "Pantomime" or "Panto".

I do, however, require another clarification:  I am under the distinct impression that the word "luvvy", so often attributed to Alan, does *NOT* have the exact same British connotation as its American counterpart.  Can someone please enlighten me on the "true" British meaning of this word as well ...

To Claudia:

The "safety" issue of bringing MNiRC to the States was a *HUGE* concern of mine, for reasons I already related to you in private.

I am just happy to hear that Alan, being the person of *GREAT* intelligence and integrity that He is, publicly divulged His concern in this regard as well.

I, too, would much rather prefer that Alan *NOT* ship MNiRC abroad due to the "safety" factor alone, even if it means that we, His most loyal Rickman Subjects, must be deprived of His presence and brilliant play.

As for that Lion King picture (a favorite of mine!), well, that is just ... "incendiary"!

That mussed-up hair of His is just ... divinely delicious!!!

Sue, sorry I missed your post about Sir Ian McK. It must have been in my sub-conscious all along! I don't know, what with him appearing on Corrie too (was it Corrie or the very dreadful Eastenders?) he's really showing that he cannot be called a "luvvy" anymore.

Bluebeatabe and Roxysue - I'm sorry we did not meet up either. I  had no chance to mail you. Let's hope there will be another occasion! Hey, perhaps at that fantasy panto!

I've been wooed back to M & S. They went through an awful phase where their clothes were really over priced and frankly fuddy duddy. The sort of place Mrs Bucket would shop! Now they are getting more trendy and some things are very reasonable (but not all). I don't think their underwear is half as good as it used to be, though. We did buy Jamie's "interview" suit there earlier this year and the quality was top! One thing they have always been famous for is the after sales service. You could always change anything with no quibbling (as they never had fitting rooms for a long time) and it's still the same.

Thanks to all who posted their Chelsea reports. It was wonderful to read them, and for you to share them with us.

Warning....I'm sick, my daughter is sick. I'm grumpy, and I shouldn't be posting this. But I'm going to, because it's driving me crazy! I do understand why AR is down on EBAY. It would be maddening to pose for a picture and then see it for sale the next day. But what about when someone makes money off the work of someone else? I don't get why some are still defending a photographer who posted here. Yes, he sells his own wares, but he also has pictures up for sale that he had nothing to do with. He is making money on a picture he didn't take. And when an alert regular here pointed that out to the rest of us, someone thought she owed this person an apology!

I bring this up because there are so many times on this board where a poster will give us an "ebay alert" about something that really shouldn't be sold. I remember there was a tape of "Private Lives" for sale awhile ago that created a big stink. Isn't that basically the same thing? I'm really not trying to start something here, but I need to understand why the double standard on what's ok to peddle on ebay and what's not.

Sue- thanks for the reminder re. Social Housing...I misread my hastily written notes! I wanted to tell that girl to read the BFI Synopsis on Coronation Street- yes, I did an in-depth study once on a Popular Culture Course and we discussed Social Housing...I think Alan tried his best with the question and was moreorless right in his assumptions!

CarlyLynda- 'My hairs a mess!.. I nearly burst out laughing and should have said  'It might be, when I've run my fingers through it ! Actually, he looked fine but I kind of understood what he meant.

He looked a little tired to me and I am not suprised as his schedule has been so hectic this year and he was going off to Shoot or discuss further 'Nobel Son'.

I do think it is sad that Alan feels he has to protect himself in this way- I think if Chelsea had said, at the beginning - Right ok, one photo before the interview began and people would have been happy with that. I do understand his vulnerability however and it must get very difficult for him at times.

Anyway, he is a very warm person and I have the utmost respect for him- I hope someone reads this board and tells him just that!.

Elaine- Sorry, I missed you but you were there somewhere !

Thank you to Gissing's Girl, Sue, Alanfan for your excellent explanations of council housing.  See there is a higher purpose for visiting this GB....it's educational!  I must also put Marks & Spencer of my list of "must sees" if I ever do make it back across the pond.

Alba - that was a unique perspective that your friend provided.  Very interesting.  I suppose when you are in your own country, you feel that you are "home".  These invasions of privacy feel a bit more intrusive because at home you feel you should be able to relax and be yourself and go about your personal business (shopping for organic bananas, for example) without feeling on display or that your photo will be taken at any moment.  When away from home, you do have a tendency to adopt a persona for for lack of a better phrase, wear a mask for the outside world to see.  It makes a lot of sense.

Claudia - there you go, teasing us with that sexy lion king photo again.  G-r-r-r-r-r-r-a-h!  The man looks fantastic!

Annick~ Thank you for the pics

Dee~ Another Artwork i see It's very nice and beautiful as always. Love it!

Claudia~ That Alan as "Lion King" picture always make me smile broadly

Oh! And i manage to finally saw "The Girl in the Cafe" a couple of days back. It's a very exciting movie i could say.. Everytime the girl speak with the counsellor always make me cringe! And when she click her finger! oh God! i wished i could just vanish on the spot! But, too bad the ending is not very nice.. There's no explanation whether He will be with her or not.. (like Alan story in Love Actually)

Er.. I imagine Alan Rickman play the part instead of Bill. Eiiitt! Don't throw anything yet! Let me explain! Let me explain! I really like Bill but not as much as i like Alan and i never can imagine Bill do the bed scene (he's too skinny and strangely look way much older than Alan) Sorry!

To Someone who mention Alan riding a Vespa!~ You make me fall from my chair because laughing too hard! I used to ride one with my relatives when i was like 5 years old and it's amusing to imagine Alan riding one!

Oh! So Alan won't be at London HP premiere! Phew! I participate in this HBOasia quiz where the winner could go to the HP premiere at London and now I know that i will not cry myself off if i don't win it because there's no point to go to the premiere without him.

Okay, i'm off to study for tomorrow Sociology exam now..

Alan is 58,404! I guess he'll reach 60,000 by the end of October

RICKMANIA WITH ALAN! hehe.. the slang exclamation from GOD WITH KING RICHARD

Now that the dust seems to have settled and I can finally take a deep breath, I want to comment on the brilliant person that drew AR out about MNiRC coming across the pond!

From the first announcement of his involvement in this play, I have feared exactly what he spoke about. Some of the blogs and message boards on the subject were just filled with people making wild assumptions and spitting their venom on anyone connected.  At the time, although I had hopes he would bring it over here, my fears were for the safety of cast and crew even in London but thank God nothing has happened and it seems to have been accepted for what the play was meant to be.

However, the US is a different story altogether, I'm very sad to say.  I'm hopeful that something can be worked out to guarantee the safety of cast and crew (whether or not AR will come with it or not) if they venture to come over here.  As bad as I want to see this play, if this issue can't be worked out to everyone's complete satisfaction, I'd rather they scrap the idea totally.  Just put it on film as he mentioned and make it available for everyone

The new ARt is fabulous, Dee!  I agree with Lucy on the name for it though.

Thank you for the explanations Gissing's Girl, Alba, Sue, Alanfan, Barbara, and Hikity.    AR never fails us in putting things out there for everyone to learn about.

The Vogue shoot from last year had everyone dressed up in panto.  I'm sure everyone remembers this manly Lion King!

And this wonderful one of Big Bad Wolf Bill Nighy that Sheena sent me right after the issue was published.

As for Marks & Spencer.  That is a must on my list of places to visit when I come over.  They have the most wonderful Royal Jelly products (smells wonderful....)!  I could not believe it when I went to their site to order some...they don't have international accomodations!  *drat*!

Sue, slink yourself right back in here, young lady!  LOL  Yall, please don't fret about the freakish nature the book tends to display every now and then.  Its never been anything that couldn't be fixed!

Sue, I envy you BIGTIME on the tickets to see Sir Ian McK!  I read about that a while back and I think it is going to be a lot of fun to see.

Annick, thanks so much for the MTV video with Danial Radcliffe!  A 60' free fall....I think ole Dan is right...it is insane!  LOL

Roxysue, please don't let that be your last word on Chelsea.  If you think of anything else...."inquiring minds want to know"!

Alba, how fascinating your actor friend's feelings on the subject.  It really does make sense, doesn't it?  Actually after thinking about it, maybe there is some substance to that for AR as well.  I think back to how animated and accomodating he was at Bowness and other places. But then you have events like the NFT where he was in a hurry to leave and now Chelsea where he seemed uncomfortable.  Oh well...just my thoughts on the subject.

Hickity, thank you for that info on pantomime. That's really interesting. And of course, for an idea of what AR would have been like, watch AABA. "Peter Pan" is a classic! There has been a renewed interest in panto by very respected actors lately when it used to be the sole domain of comedians and soap stars trying to kick start their career. Am I wrong in thinking that Sir Ian McKellan appeared in one last year? It would be great to see AR in one, even if it was a "one off" charity performance. Can you imagine the stampede for tickets for that? Perhaps a return to Captain Hook?

You know, AR does not always come over well in interviews and things where he has to be himself (IMHO). I'm wondering whether he is basically a shy person and uses his acting talent to become that person he is portraying. We then never really know what he is like as a person, and why should we? Sorry, this has not come over too well but you get the gist....don't you? Alba, I was interested in your friend's take on it. I can understand that. I went to school with an actor occasionally seen on TV and in film. I'm hoping to meet up with him with some of our old school friends and I will ask him the same question!

And as for appearance at the NY prem, you've probably got a better chance than we have. He can always use the time to have talks about talking MNiRC to Broadway.. Perhaps that what he is planning??? (BTW, I think it was really sweet of him to be considering Megan's safetly over there. He must be a great person to call friend!)

Hi-I'm trying to catch up and read the last three pages again.  Always playing catch-up it seems.

for Dee- I applied for my passport this summer. (I'm from Michigan, so we're practically neighbors in the scheme of things.) They warned me the process would take 6-8 weeks, too.  I had it in my hand in 3 weeks, and I didn't pay any extra fees.  Of course this was before the hurricanes, but I'm sure it's been sent somewhere capable of processing it.  Are you planning a trip to London?  I bought my plane tickets yesterday. My daughter, Mom, Dad and I are going next March.  We're still looking for a place to stay, and have found a couple bed and breakfasts that look nice. (and affordable.) NWA had some really good deals.  Take care, Julie

Very interesting postes her Alanfan and Sue, thank you. As I like to go into details (partly due to my studies), I would like to add that the pantomime can be traced back to the Restoration Period (1660-1700; Charles II who reopened the theatres after Interregnum) and has nothing to do with our (German) Pantomime, which is a silent play conveying the plot through facial expressions and body lanaguage. Here is part of what I found on Wikipedia:

In Restoration England, a pantomime was a low form of opera, rather like the Commedia dell'arte but without Harlequin developed (rather like the French Vaudeville). In 1717, John Rich introduced Harlequin to the British stage under the name of "Lun" (for "lunatic") and began performing wildly popular pantomimes. These pantomimes gradually became more topical and comic, often involving as many special theatrical effects as possible. Colley Cibber and his colleagues competed with Rich and produced their own pantomimes, and pantomime was a substantial (if decried) subgenre in Augustan drama.

This had virtually died out by the end of the 19th century. What remains of British, pantomime (or panto) is a non-silent form of theatre, incorporating song, dance, buffoonery, and satire, traditionally performed at Christmas, with audiences consisting mainly of children.

And here from WDR, for all Germans who are interested: http://www.wissen.swr.de/sf/php/02_sen01.php?sendung=6496

Sorry for the length, forgive me, I was just carried away. Love that (social) history stuff...

Chevelle : I don't know about the NY GoF premiere I'm afraid . Alan definitely said he won't be at the London one.

Reading the other posts, positively my last comment about Chelsea, was that I don't think Alan was in a bad mood, just that he found the situation extremely uncomfortable and he probably felt like he was sitting in a goldfish bowl !

Afterwards, he was very charming and smiled alot. I found him very easy to talk to and in fact we talked alot about my local theatre, The Watermill, which is in danger of closure. He said he had a friend appearing in a play there at present.

Yes, it WAS funny about his hair.! I said that mine was in a state too, it was VERY blustery in London that day. Finally, yes the crowd of them did walk away and we saw them turn the corner and walk up the next street. I wouldn't have been surprised if they were heading for a restaurant.

Vicky, M&S stands for Marks and Spencer, as the others have said its a big clothes and food store in most city High Streets.

Carly-Lynda, Panto is short for Pantomime. It's a Christmas tradition here in the UK where most city theatres have a Panto. They take a fairy story Cinderella, Puss in Boots etc and bastardise it, they put in modern songs, jokes that fit in with the area that they are in or political ones and they use actors in the various roles. I have never been to one but I have taken part in  local ones when I as younger much younger.

Going back to Council houses, and thanks to Maggie Thatcher there are not many of those left. As she decided it would be a good idea to sell the off to the people who lived in them. Nothing has been built to replace them and consequently there is now no cheap housing for the less well off. Alan lived in one of these as a child. Remember his father died when he was 8. His mother had 4 children to bring up, money would be scarce. I can understand he didn't know about food till he went to Chelsea. When his father died the UK was still under rationing due to the war, sweets was the last thing to come off and I can't remember the year now. He grew up in difficult circumstances. He has done well with his life. All power to him.

Here endeth the lesson in social history.

Brief explanation time:

M&S stands for Marks & Spencer, our biggest and most famous shopping and food  chain. At one time about 90% of women in the UK would be wearing Marks' knickers!LOL They also sell lovely food and sarnies (sandwiches). Have been on the slide financially recently but things are perking up this year with a better range of clothes.

Council housing is houses owned by the local council and rented out to people who can't afford to buy. Mrs. Thatcher launched the "right to buy" policy to allow tenants to purchase these properties after thay had been living there a few years. This was all very fine and dandy for the the tenants who got them at discount and then after a couple of years sold them on the open market at a nice profit BUT of course led to a shortage of properties for other people in need. It is particularly hard for young people in rural villages (which traditionally always had a row of council houses) to get on the property ladder at all now and many have to move away to larger towns to get any chance of a place.

Panto is short for Pantomine a traditional style of entertainment at theatres around Christmas time suitable for all the family. There are set plays that are rewritten regularly to include all sorts of current references etc. Aladdin, Peter Pan, Cinderella, Dick Whittington, Jack and the Beanstalk are all part of the pantomine tradition. Panto is very weird as it has some very odd castings. The leading man eg Dick Whittington is always played by a young woman. There is always a Dame ie a comic elderly woman who plays a fairy godmother, aunt, mother, washerwoman etc. This role is always played by a man dressed in a highly lurid costume. There is often an animal of some sort  eg horse or cow (in Jack and the Beanstalk) played by two people in costume! I have had the great honour of being the back end of the cow in a PTA version of Jack and the Beanstalk, it was perhaps my greatest performance and I have never returned to the stage since as I doubt that I could top it!

Panto has stock phrases too to enable audience participation eg It's Behind You and "Oh no he isn't!" "Oh yes He is" (Believe me you have to be there LOL)

Nowadays Panto tends to contain a lot of "stars" off the soaps who want to do a bit of stage work but it used to be done more by repertory comapnies of which Alan was a member.

I have tickets to see Aladdin this Christmas at The Old Vic with Ian McKellan as the dame!

Anyone foolish enough to want to find out more about this peculiarly British institution could try THIS

page.

Returning to the subject of the Chelsea talk (dare I?) I would like to say that I don't think he was in that much of a bad mood. He just seems the sort of guy who plays his cards very close to his chest, likes to give any question a great deal of thought and then answer what he wants to say without giving much away. I don't think he particularly enjoys these events but he did look back at the end whilst going out and call out "Bye!" which was sweet!!LOL

G's Girl beat me to the answer. They closed all the M&S stores here...I SO miss the supermarket!

I have a friend who is a pretty well-known actor (but not a mega star). He says it's weird, but when he's 'at home' he feels like the fan scene is an invasion into his everyday life, but when he's elsewhere it doesn't seem like as much of a hassle. He understands it's not fair and can't really explain it, but that's the way it is. He likens it to doing things when you're a tourist on holiday that you would NEVER do at home.

Vicki, a council house is housing, flats, houses etc that are provided by the local council for people who can't or won't afford to buy their own houses. M&S is a much loved British institution, a clothing store that also sells food that mostly is to die for. Their current slogan is "it's not just food, it's M&S food". If ever you're in England make it your first stop. there are stores in most towns.

Wow, it's really nice to be able to read so many first hand reports.  Even though a lot of the information is the same, you really get a different perspective with each one (though a couple of them on other GBs were a little bizarre....ahem, I'll say no more than that).  So thank you to all who contributed here and thank you also to those who posted links to other reports.

I really must agree with Alfan, BlueBeatBabe, and Elaine about AR's mood.  If you think about it, AR has been working nonstop the entire year.  He went from filming HP to working on MNiRC to Snowcake to Perfume, then back to restaging MNiRC, several "talks" and now off to film Noble Son.  In addition to all the work, his popularity has soared since appearing in the HP films, not that he wasn't wildly popular among his loyal fans....but he has been introduced to a much wider audience through HP and the newer fans have been smitten with AR fever also.  So he is getting a lot more attention than he probably ever has before.  I'm just speculating here, but he probably isn't real happy that he worked so hard to lose weight several months ago and now the pudge has returned with a vengeance.  We most all can probably relate to that.  So, combine that with feeling tired, and knowing that you have an exhausting 11 hour flight ahead of you.....I can certainly understand why he just wasn't in the mood to have his picture taken.  I do feel sorry for the fans.  But, true fans will understand and should at least take comfort in the fact that they are among the privileged few who have seen and spoken with him in person.

Now I will show my ignorance:  What is a council house?  Is that like public assistance housing?...or is it something else?  Also what does M & S stand for?

Elaine

Just another thought about AR's mood, which backs up what eveyone else says really. He has been really busy this past year. From doing very little a year or so ago, he is now on his 4th film. Great news for us, of course but with his involvment with MNiRC, too, and all his other pies in which he dips his finger, he's probably gagging for some free time away from the "sleb" bit. Most of us cope with working full time and running families but we don't have to put up with the constant adoration from fans and the knowledge that you are on show all the time - hence "shopping" pics ending up on ebay, which is what he's probably most miffed at.

Must get back to bed......working tonight.....

Alfan, I think you are right. I'm not sure that he was in an AWFUL mood, but just very tired and regretting that he agreed to the interview in the first place. But at least he did not let us down.Perhaps there has been a couple of ebay pics that he was not happy about. There is that guy who occasionally puts up "personally taken" photos (not Keith) which are not always that flattering. And for once, he could be very self conscious about how he looks at present, although the pudge is only noticeable when he sits down. (Suck it in dear!)

Bluebeatbabe, thank you for your report - and the report of the little meeting you had with him. Did he go off on foot? That messy hair comment might be a clue to the way he was feeling about pics. We tend to forget, seeing so many pics of him, that he might just like "nice" pics of himself. I know I hate being photographed for that reason.

Thanks, too, to those who have mailed me. I've just been banned from a group for doing something or other, I don't know what. I don't mind  because it's saved me a job as I was going to leave ayway. I've not visited the group in question since I stopped posting there over a year ago, although the owner thinks otherwise. (Yahoo groups are a pain to log into!) Don't need to because I have found that I have much more fun here and get all the info I want from this very friendly group because we all share willingly. I hope she will delete all the remaining stuff I put on her archives - yes, transcripts and suchlike. And note, that I have not mentioned anybody by name in this post, or previous ones, so perhaps there are some lurkers who should note that before they start threatening legalities. I apologise if I have written anything out of turn. I only make comments on what I read.

So, back to normality. (Sorry Claudia, 'nuff said now!)

Catsplay, "squee" and "teh" are Netspeak.  "Teh" is a deliberate misspelling of "The."   It's a "universal determiner," so to speak," used like "el" in Spanish, for instance.  If something is "teh," if means it is the definitive example of a thing.  Like "teh hands" means there's no other hands that are as great as they are.

"Squee" is a term used to express pleasure and excitement about something.  It's like "Hooray" or "Yay," except with more emotion. I think it is supposed to be the sound one makes when one squeals.  Any number of e's can be added to the end of "squee."  It's kind of like adding multiple exclamation points at the end of a sentence.

The word can be a verb: you can "squee" something, and when you do, your post is "squeeage," which is the noun form of the word.

Hope I haven't been too boring or pedantic here.

Ok. Thank you! I appreciate your continued efforts! And for those that have gotten to meet him AND talk to him?! WOW! I SOOOOOOO envy you all! I would just DIE to meet him! Of course.... I'd probably be a blithering idiotic moron, but what else would be new?

Oh, and just in case anyone is interested, I've posted my website link. It's just a free Comcast space, so it's not much, but I've tried to make it into something good with what little space I have to work with there.

It's time for a new Famous Painting ARt!

James Williams Waterhouse was a bit of a nymph-o-maniac and ethereal fem-fatales graced many of his works. He made a good living as an artist but, for some unknown reason, painted many of his masterpieces on cheap, crooked and damaged canvases. Also, known as a terrible procrastinator, Waterhouse would add layers of thick paint, hardly waiting for them to dry between coats, and rushing wet paintings to exhibitions. That’s why many of his works have such a cracked appearance today.

One of his most well known paintings is “Hylas and the Nymphs” (otherwise known as “What, all of you at once?!”). In this Greek myth, Hylas was the arms bearer and lover of Hercules during the legendary adventures of the Argonauts. Hylas went ashore at Mysia to fetch water and was lured away by a flock of love-starved nymphs. A heartbroken Hercules searched for his lover in vain, but it seems that Hylas preferred a handful of wet nymphs to a burly demigod.

What are my famous painting wallpapers? I take my favorite paintings by famous artists and sneak AR onto the canvas. Feel free to use and enjoy -- it's a great way to display our gorgeous AR on your desktop (a plus for office computers) while impressing people with your knowledge of fine art! I was asked once, "Don't you feel guilty changing a famous work of art?" My answer is, nope! Everything looks better with a little AR in it! ENJOY!

OK, call me a dork, but I must ask, because my inquiring mind wants to know........I have seen these two terms used incessantly in AR discussions......and am interested in their origin and proper usage!

1) Squeeeeeeeeee! -- Is this some Alan related reference that I haven't learned yet because I haven't watched a certain movie?  Or simply an expression of gleeful joy about anything Alan related?

2) "Teh" pudge, "Teh hands", "Teh man", etc -- Um, I understand the pudge part, but what's up with the "Teh" stuff?  At first I just assumed people couldn't spell, but it's obvious there's some inside info I'm missing.

Help me out folks!

ps.  I have to say that I spent a hilarious 2 hours the other night reading through the various installments at http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=serpenatrix .  The 19 part anthology of the hands and lots more.  There is so much stuff out there on AR, no wonder we are addicted, but this stuff was utterly priceless and totally hilarious.  Well done!

Also, the Dogma website has a lot of hidden Alan tidbits, especially in the diary by Kevin Smith, and some pics in the images section, too.

roxysue - wOw! You had a slightly different "view" of the talk - sitting near Rima and an AR meeting outside. Thanks for sharing!

Bluebeatbabe - His hair's a mess? No photos because his friggin hair was a mess??!! He was kidding, right? Why in the world is he so paranoid about eBay? We all know there are pirates on eBay with rip-off schemes, but fans-in-the-know are usually too smart to be fooled. Could it be that AR doesn't really understand how "the beast"  (eBay) works, or do you suppose there's more to it?

Anyway...so...what did teh hand feeeeeeel like?

Hikity - *sends hug*

Laurie - I applied for my passport today. They explained about "expediting" the application to get it faster, but it would have been $200! Too much for me! But I hope I don't regret passing it up --they said the forms go thru New Orleans! egads! Are their post offices even up and running yet!!??

Claudia - And here I thought you were a full blooded Georgian! Gee...why won't they let you cross the state lines? Are you wanted for something?

I'm off now to read Sheena's report.

Believe it or not....I started this post an hour ago!  LOL

See?  We learn something new with each and every report we read!  Thanks so much for sharing Bluebeatbabe!  I'm so glad to hear the Italian fans were able to at least get some autographs.  AND...how fabulous was it for you???  It sounds like you talked to him just like he was a regular person and I think that's a feat in itself!

Here's another report that was emailed to me from

The Alan Rickman Appreciation Society  (about half way down the page)

I've had several questions about what my suspicions are as to why he was in a bad mood.  I think there is a combination of reasons one of which I think he's got to many "pots on to boil" right now.  I think he is waayyyyy overbooked on things and when that happens....you just go from "appointment" to "appointment" only giving what you just have to give because you have to save energy for the next.  There are other reasons in my mind as well but those might need to stay private.

Ohhhh in the mood he was in.....I shudder at the thought of someone bringing up Snape, Sue!   So glad no one did!  LOL

No harm taken at all, Alfan.

Ah, I see. Yes. There is a WONDERFUL story out on Ashwinder called "A Dish Served Cold". FABULOUS! And there is a character named Sabine (she's a smart, crafty woman who is a Slytherin). The story is a Marriage Law Challenge fic, but it is just the best one out there! The character of Sabine winds up married to Albus. Don't worry, she's around his age, lol. If you want to read it, it's on Ashwinder.

Sorry I haven't been here in a while. I have been ATTEMPTING to study (unsuccessfully) for mid-terms. I have one left that I have to take tomorrow, and what am I doing? Hanging out online instead of studying. Sheesh.

Oh, Claudia. Have you by any chance been able to locate that "Mr. Potter. Our New Celebrity" interview? I'm also looking for either a soundclip or videoclip of the "Bewitch the Mind, Ensnare the Senses" speech. Someone posted one, but it wasn't the whole thing and I was left VERY frustrated as I could just listen to that voice recite that speech FOREVER! lol.

Hey SARF.... Are you the same SARF from S.W.A.R.F.? If so..... HI!!!!! If not..... oh well, nice to meet you! lol.

So, slightly off-topic, and I apologize, but I just HAVE to ask..... Did anyone here stay up until 2:00am CST (Central Standard Time) to finish watching the White Sox KILL the Astros?! Lol. GO WHITE SOX! If they win tonight it will be a sweep and I will be ECSTATIC!!!!!!!

I can tell you that i have a nice size " pudge" and i sure in the hell dont like my picture taken if i can help it. Maybe he is just a little self-concious at that time. a little irritable and just didnt feel up to par but couldnt cancel again. Sounds like he just got home, has been having late nites every night attending MNIRC, having to put up with the critics of the show, he was leaving for LA the next day. He has done GOF,  premiere of MNIRC, Snowcake, Purfume, more MNIRC and now Noble Son in succession, with barely any private time, so maybe he is a little stressed. Im not saying anything bad against him, but he is human, you can only do so much without letting the "glorious facade" slip a bit. hee hee

Hi Everyone,

AndrewMarr/Alan Rickman.

Started a little late... Alan came in via a downstairs door with Andrew Marr followed by about 5 guests who were in the reserved seats- amongst which was Rima, sat in the fromt row of 3 seats, directly in front of me !. I was in 2nd row seat sat next to Roxysue and 2  girls from Hungary and Switzerland.

Rima was wearing a black skirt and black shirt and some very pointed ankle boots, either dark brown or deep purple.

The st was very spartan, just a black couch which Alan sat on and a chair for Andrew Marr plus a small table with 2 bottles of water . of which, Alan partook on several occasions.

Alan was wearing light blue jeans with black shirt and black jacket and brown leather shoes/trainers.

Before the talk commenced, Chelsea staff went amidst the audience and stipulated' NO PICTURES' and  Alan Alan asked for 'no pictures' or 'recordings and I quote

' Please turn them off NOW or I will KILL you!" with the emphasis upon KILL... Everyone laughed...deeply disappointing,

A.Marr opened the the interview talking about Alan's working class background and schools he attended and there was discussion about how he once got 4% in a physics exam to which the teacher wrote'This is hysterical' meaning 'nonesense. Alan saidthe only remarkable event  in physics was the 'Collapsing Can Experiment' ,because it 'did something' and he likened it to 'theatre' and to how how long he could pause before saying 'the gag line', utilising instinct and courage'.

He told of how he was advised to ' lose his artwork' and to submit 2 pieces for his entry into Chelsea.  Alan said this was 1964 and that there was only one clothes shop.'Mary Quant' and one restaurant of any note.

He talked of being asked to draw a NAKED PERSON and that this was a shock to him. He continued to say that

'the visual part of his training is part of his life as an actor and a director' He very firmly stated that he was definiely 'a Mod' and not 'a Rocker.

He discussed the Grafitti Design Company he set up until1972 and talked of the small, informal amateutr productions he took part in and which, produced 'fantastic work'

He commented that

'I have always been 10 years behind myself' and said 'My head can get in the way !"

. He said he feared for the young kids coming through as they don't get the 2 year grounding in Panto and theatre which he had.

He did some RSC training when he met Peter Barnes at the Aldwych doing a play called 'The Bertand' about Phillip 11 of Spain aand Alan said 'It was thrilling to me' and 'it changed my life'. He later worked with Peter Barnes at the Edinboooroug Festival in

'The DevilIs An Ass' and in 'Measure For Measure'

Alan said he completed one year at the RSC and then left returning in 1985.He was asked 'Are you set now?" He replied 'No, the voice does not change and you learn to protect it... the child has to be there at all times'.

He talked about the ego of writers.

RHPOT.

Andrew Marr talked about Costner 'Cutting Alan's Scenes'. Alan said he did n't know abbout that... 'But the film was about Robin Hood! Yeah .. Right !!!

Alan went on to discuss 'Galaxy Quest' and how there was 'no such thing as rehearsal and that they just shot the scene'

Die Hard'

Alan talked of how he was reluctant to take the part of Hans Gruber after being in Holltywood for 2 days and being offered the part His agent said 'Look ...this just does n't happenhere... think again.. and well, the rest is history 'Yippee Kay ee!.

In Di Hard he had to recognise his opportunities and that 'there was akind of innocent logic in the playing of Hans Gruber.

Alan said he never thought about Hollywood and was too busy'Just getting on, being a theatre actor'

MNIRC'.

Alan feels Megan Dodds has 'repossessed the theatre''. It is filled with 17-22 year olds watching the performance.

He talked about 'The Holy Trinity'. of a MOVIE, POPCORN AND COKE!.and of how the theatre still retains the ability to tell a story.

Questions From The Floor.

Someone said one of his best performances was in 1985 as Jake in 'As You Like It'. Alan said it was memorable and a very important production although critics gave it shocking reviews !.

MNIRC.

'What chance of it coming to the States'?

'It is being looked at now... the current production has been faced with a set of threats...people making assumptions that he is criticising Israel and of being anti-semetic.

Alan is concerned for Megan's safety inNew York. He states\RC is a chronicle... I'm not telling you what to think... make up your own minds'  Alan believes that Rache would have been a great writer.

Social history'  What ? Was about Alan's response...a question whether social history informed or mirrored theatre... this was a complex question which Aln could n't get to grips with.. he kept asking' what do you mean/  Put it in simple terms! The girl said she was doing an M.A in Theatre/film and working on a thesis? on Social History's import. Alan replixed 'What.. like Eastenders!?> Anyway he said it did both and we moved on..He said there were no black people in 'Notting Hill !

That was pretty much..it.. throughout Alan gestured alot, using his hand constantly to express himself,

He amde an extremely quick exit.. someone handed him a gift bag just as he was heading out of the door hastily and I think I managed to get one photo. the girl turned out to be one of the 4 Italian girls that Roxysue and I met outside called Bianca from Roma and Milan.

I left with Roxysue.. we checked out the bar .. WE  are nothing if not THorough ladies...... no sign and so we wandered outside where 2 other American girls were waiting plus the 4 Italian girls  WHO WERE DELIGHTFUL. so Bianca, Elena Elise and Alessandra.. it was a pleasure to meet you.

There was one woman with her husband who apparantly worked at Chelsea and whom we thought was trying to find out if Alan was still there, Another woman came out the front entrance. she had been sat next to Rima and seemed to indicate he might still be there . I moved doewn the road turned left and through a door saw Alan's profile- so Quick dash to the rear entrance and Yes.. ther was Alan.

He signed pictures for the Italian girls and Roxysue . i asked him 'May I take a Photo. He replied NO..OOOO, NO pictures too may are ending up on EBAY. to which I replied that this would NEVER be on EBAY.. he then said 'My hair's a mess!' WHAT ? anyway , I respected his request. He signed a Private Lives programme for me He shook my hand and I said 'it was a real pleasure to meet him' We talked about Perfume- shoot finished and I asked him if 'Nobel Son ' was going ahead .. He said ..Yes. it was looking hopeful and also that he will not be at THE FILM PREMIERE IN NOVEMBER.

I thanked him for doing the interview and said cheers.. I was suprised I conversed do easily with him. He then wandered off towards Westminster and to catch up with Rima.  The Italian girls were thrilled and were still tweeting about it for 30 minutes after- they were in london for 6 days and werereturning to Rome and Milan today.

Kathy. i am so sorry I could n't get those much wanted photos. there were many disappointed fans in the theatre and yes, sad to think that the EBAY DEALERS have muddied the waters for Alan's genuine fans.

Something has bothered him on EBAY but I have to say he was very gracious and lovely really when I soke with him and yes, the handshake lingered and was lovely.

Gosh sorry for such a long post ! Hope you enjoy

Dee, I got my passport a couple of months before I went to England in April.  You can pay extra money to have it rushed through. I did that (can't remember how much extra it was) because I was so paranoid that I wouldn't get it in time. I had it back in the mail in just a little over a weeks time.  In Vermont some Town Clerks can do the applications (I went to the town next to mine) which saved me more time.  Hope this helps.

I feel so bad for you and the others that wanted pictures so badly.  From all I've read about the event, he really did seem to be in bad mood...and unfortuately I have my suspicions as to why.

I and I think a lot of true fans agree with you about AR seeming to be uncomfortable with his celebrity.  But to his misfortune, this is what comes with being one of the best actors God put on the face of the earth.

OK, everyone, allow me, please, to play the Devil's Advocate here for a second, before we start ruffling others' feathers and separating allegiances due perhaps to ... a simple misunderstanding.

If I read Hikity's post correctly, I believe she was alluding to "recorded" transcripts, meaning "audio" files, which some fans may have "tape recorded" with a mechanical device of sorts, notwithstanding Alan's explicit instructions.

Therefore, the "recorded" transcripts should not, as I believe Hikity meant to say, exclude transcripts derived from memory or notes, which I believe, by and large, is generally appreciated by everyone here, and elsewhere on the Internet.

However, if this is *NOT* what Hikity really intended to convey in her said post, then I am of the school of thought that any and all transcripts from such talks, lectures and/or encounters of any Alan kind--obtained through sources acceptable to Alan--should be allowed here and elsewhere on the Internet.

Sorry girls - much later than everyone else ( we have had old friends to stay today ), but just a few comments on the Chelsea talk that I was privileged to be at. Nothing to add on the content of the talk, except that I met up with Bluebeatbabe ( which was great ! ) and we sat right behind Rima and other invited guests. Rima is Very petite and seemed nice, as she gave us a lovely smile. I too felt that Alan was totally uncomfortable with the situation, certainly at the beginning, not helped by the fact that 99.9% of the audience was female.

He was intensely strict about no photos, no recording etc. and whilst I understand and sympathise with the unscrupulous goings on on e-bay, I did feel immensely sorry for the 4 Italian women, and the 2 from Switzerland and the French lady who failed to get pictures etc.

However, after it finished, although Alan had left the lecture theatre quickly, he in fact remained in the building and Bluebeatbabe and I ( and the 4 Italian ladies ! ) were fortunate to meet him outside ! I shook hands with him and he signed autographs but he still insisted on no photos which was a real shame because I'd love to have my picture taken with him ! I chatted to him for a while about different things and he said he will NOT be at the premiere of GOF. He smiled alot and was v. friendly but no photos !!! Arr! I really don't think that Alan is comfortable with being a " celebrity ". Whilst I agree with Hikity I have posted this because I am grateful to this site for informing me of all that Alan does. Also, by becoming an established actor, Alan must have realised that fame and that dreadful word " celebrity " goes hand in hand with success. He should be able to distinguish between "die-hard" (groan !! ) fans who would keep photos as private treasured possessions and those people who are out to make a fast buck on the internet.

      Phew ! A long post !

Elaine,

if the will was to "not see in internet any pics or transcript"....well, no one stops us from talking about it through email and help each other this way.

Mr Rickman won't find anything posted in internet that could disappoint him, neither other people

does it sound too bad?

Anyway, now I've calmed down, to stop it being "spread" all over the place, once I've done the deed, if you want a copy, email me.

Good point, too. What is the difference between a transcript and these very detailed reports from "memory"?

(And I'm sure AR was thinking about the actual recording which I would NEVER put out!)

Laura is right. This talk was public, it was not secret. People tape events and have been doing it for years and years. The only problem I can see is if someone tries to sell one of these tapes on EBay or something.  Otherwise, what harm does it do?

I do not agree with the ridiculous argument that AR will censor himself if people don't stop taping him. I know that AR said this himself, that he feels like he has to censor himself, but I respectfully say to Mr. Rickman that he is full of it.

When has he EVER been forthcoming, open and candid in his interviews?  He is a private man and reveals only so much of himself, and then only the SAME parts over and over. Yeah, maybe little tidbits of new trivia come out here and there -- he was a Mod, he still draws, but nothing earth-shattering. He is very cagey and in control of what information he gives people. I challenge anyone to find an interview of his where you come away feeling that you REALLY know him.  He is not going to change - he is not going to suddenly become a candid chatterbox. So whether or not people are taping his appearances is irrelevant. And can we please stop talking about Sheena? She is a controversial person to many in AR fandom.

One more point. Were bags and persons searched going into the theater?  If not, then the theater and AR's "people" didn;t make a serious effort to thwart taping.

Fine, Hickity, then I won't post the transcript. Sorry, girls, seems I'm not allowed to share. I guess some people have a better memory than mine! AR was talking about that particular evening and was afraid it would end up on ebay! As I'm only sharing with fellow fans who could not be there, I have a clear conscience.

It's a pity some people on other groups don't follow their own advice. I've read that they think we should not bother him for autographs but it's okay for them to run after him and give him stuff, or drag him away to sign autographs when he has to rush off for another appointment. Perhaps they should prectice what they preach. And at least we SHARE on this group instead of keeping things to themselves.

Sorry for rant......

Ohhh I have so much to respond to but I think I will respond to Hikity's message first.

While I totally respect your opinion on the subject whether or not to post reports from the Chelsea talk last night, I completely disagree with you.

  1. Said recording will NEVER be put on the Internet by the person that recorded it because said person respects AR 100+%. The recording is merely a tool to help relate the event for we unfortunate fans that were not able to make it to the event.
  2. What is the difference in a transcription from a recording than someone's "memory" report?  How does this intrude on his privacy any more than a memorized report?
  3. And as fascinating as Sheena's report is....I find it very difficult to believe it ALL came from her memory.

And finally, AR will continue to do these little "events" as long as it financially benefits the organization he is working for.  And by no means has he EVER spoken openly and I doubt he ever will.

If you are offended by the forthcoming transcript, you are certainly free not to read it.

I apologize ahead of time if this sounds hard for its not meant to be.  Its just been a really BAD day.

Elaine..will you share the "killing" with me???  *grin*

a question: was is speech only for a few people, kind of a private thing? Isn't it allowed to share talks from this event? I read this report too and I can understand the "no photo, no video" to be more relaxed or...I don't know...but was it a secret talk?

It's just a question, I don't get why talking in public to then see: keep it all for yourself.

What was exactly this event and who was allowed to it?

Ana: I totally agree! I am so excited Alan was a mod! I wonder if he had a Vespa? I'm in a scooter club with a bunch of mods and would *kill* to see Alan on a scooter... hopefully MY scooter. HeeHee!

Peekabooh: thanks for posting the link to Sheena's post. I almost had a artsy fangirl hissy when I read this: Andrew Marr asked Alan about art and if he still paints or draws. The answer was that he draws sometimes when he can. He also said that it is a part of him that allows him to communicate with set designers etc as part of his tool set for acting and directing. He also said that perhaps when he has had enough of acting he will go back to painting, but it would only be on a private personal level, not a career.
I bet Alan is a terrific artist, though I doubt I will ever get to see any of it.

Laura: LLD = Les Liasons Dangereuses - I may have spelled it wrong

I know there might be some of you here who will wildly protest now, but I hope I am allowed to say my opinion on a very delicate matter here once:

It is great that you all share your personal experiences with the object of our affection (tks a lot, Peekabooh, for this sweet expression) and I appreciate every tiny bit of the reports from your memory. However, I have a problem with the recorded reports. I feel it is intruding in one's privacy and - IMHO I don't think it is wise to poste it here, especially as our "OOOA" made it very clear what the consequences would be. Therefore I poste here an excerpt of Sheena's posting I mentioned before:

The first thing Alan did after Andrew Marr had begun speaking was state that there were to be no photographs taken and request that nobody make any audio recordings or video of the event. As he did not want it ending up on internet sites and if people did things like that then gradually he would stop feeling that he could speak openly at such events and would start self-censoring what he says. Alan Rickman also joked that if he found out anyone had recorded the event he would have to kill them. So therefore those of us who respect his wishes only have our memories to rely on.

Hikity

Laurie, in the sixties when the whole teen/music thing exploded as ever kids aligned themselves into groups.

Rockers (or Greasers) were basically throw backs to Rock & Roll and Elvis and everything. They wore black leather and drove motorbikes.

Mods (short for modern, I guess) were very snappy dressers wearing smart Italian suits and drove scooters (Vespas/Lambrettas) whilst wearing parkas. They were into modern pop eg The Who, Small Faces and the beginnings of Reggae eg Ska/Bluebeat

At Bank Holiday Weekends (Easter/August) they all drove down in huge gangs to the coast (Brighton, Southend etc)

Of course not all teens went the whole way with this but generally people sort of aligned themeselves in some way to one of the styles. Even us younger kids at school would decide which "side" we were on. I was a bit torn cos I loved motorbikes and the leathers but I was a member of The Who fanclub and had picures of Stevie Marriott (Small Faces) in my desk

thanks to everyone for your reports on the Chelsea talk.
I truly wish I could have gone, but couldn't afford tickets to UK right now... It seemed like one of those events I would truly enjoy (especially being in a small setting). I was hoping he would talk more about his past as a designer and his beginnings at the school. I am a graphic designer myself, and I am fascinated that Alan used to be one. I wish I could sit and talk to him one day about art and see if he ever draws/paints anything anymore.

Millie: congrats on your autograph. I got a similar letter/autographed photo right before he travelled to barcelona to film Perfume. I had such a fit, running around telling my husband OMG! ALAN BREATHED ON THIS PHOTO!

I am giddy to think that Alan is in the states now! SQUEE! Sadly he's probably nowhere near where I am. I wish I could take him out for a philly cheesesteak - the pudge would love that!!! HA!

Hi Donna AND Millie! Welcome to our neat little group!  I hope you will post as often as you can.

Millie, thank you so much for sharing your picture and letter news!  I'm looking forward to the images if you can find a scanner.  Hmmm, I wonder if the trip over is for Nobel Son???  It will have to be a quick trip since he has so many things in the UK advertising his appearance!

Can't wait to see your pic, RT!  IMO, there is never a pic of AR NOT worth it!  Even the pic Emily found a while back of him and Megan Dodds having lunch.....all we could see was his magnificent profile in the top right hand corner of the pic...THAT was worth it!

Elaine...... where are you, dear???  Can't wait to hear from you!

Thank you for the Pefume video link, Annick.  I think that is the same show that our dear Daydreamer made for us a couple month ago.

Vickie, thanks for the heads up on State of Play on BBC-A this Sunday!  I've seen it before but its such a good show that I'll watch it again.  Besides, I never ever tire of watching Bill Nighy...and I still have a cradle-robbing crush on John Simm too.  LOL

Speaking of BBC-A, last Monday I had every intention of watching Viva Blackpool with the adorable David Tennant in it and I fell asleep. But Emily saw it and says that its a good show AND they are re-airing the first episode on Saturday at 11PM.  YAY!

Hey! Is this important? I just found this news article! Here's a snippet from it about AR and the link to the full article.

Quote:
From Peggy Ashcroft's spleen-wrenching, chilling Queen Margaret, to the gorgeous cadences of Laurence Olivier's Coriolanus, some of the most remarkable performances from the Royal Shakespeare Company's illustrious history are to be made available for the first time on CD. Gregory Doran, associate director at the RSC, has selected 20 complete scenes from 18 plays for the double CD. His choices range from Donald Sinden's 1971 Malvolio in John Barton's production of Twelfth Night, to Alan Rickman's melancholic, dry-as-a-bone Jaques in the 1986 As You Like It. "I had no idea that the recordings existed, but suddenly there you were listening to Laurence Olivier doing Coriolanus, something I thought had completely disappeared," he said.

Thank you all for the reports!   Were there any funny moments?? Any raised eyebrows??  was he 'humorous' when he said he was going to kill anyone who recorded??  How long did he speak??  I am curious about his rapport with the audience ?

Also, I watched Dogma for the first time tonight -- wow?!  Strange but enjoyable.  I had no idea it was filed in PITTSBURGH -- that is where I live -- and there were a bunch of places that I recognized!  Even the office building where I was working at the time of the filming was one of the locations apparently!!  I must have been living in a paper bag at the time or something??  Argh!

Very pleasant evening. Lovely to meet Elaine, Redtango, Gissing's Girl and hubby. Oh and said hello to RikkiNikki too

Can't add a lot more to what was said as I have a terible memory. He definitely said "I'll kill you" if we made any recordings. Andrew Marr's  ears weren't as big as I thought. Same old jeans were worn plus untucked shirt and plenty o' pudge! However he looked pretty good all round.

Mainly spoke about school, college and drama, very little on films except Die Hard and we'd heard that before. Quite honestly the guy doesn't give much away. The play he was talking about at the RSC with Juliet Steevenson was As You Like It and apparently he got his worse reviews but it was one of the things he was happiest with.

He hasn't got much time for modern teaching. Too much time spent meeting targets and filling in forms even at RADA. He didn't think his old teachers would have ever filled a form in, they would have just got on with it.

Can't remember much else, Gissing's Girl obviously doesn't have as many senior moments as me.

RedTango, Elaine and I went and had a meal in a pub and had a good laugh carrying on from talking to Mr&Mrs Gissing's Girl! Sorry we didn't get to say goodbye but I hope that dvd goes down well

We met Red Tango and Sue, and then in came Elaine, We all went and sat in the lecture theatre, not in the front row as DH wanted to use his camcorder to record the talk (he failed to get it so I have to remember what he said). Before the talk security warned about cameras, phones and recording devices. Ar said if he found out anyone was using them he would kill them as he couldn't say what he wanted to for fear of illicit recordings going on the internet.

He was wearing pale blue denims, brown laceup shoes,a dark grey shirt unbuttoned at the neck and a black suit jacket. His hair is practically back to normal, almost silver all over and a nice length, not too short. He is very expressive with his hands and kept moving them to make a point in his conversation. Andrew Marr started off by asking him questions about his early career and his time at the college. He said that the people he looked up to most were his teachers at school and he submitted 2 abstract pictures at the college for entrance. He also said he had to draw nude women and at that age he'd never seen one before.

He said he didn't know what direction to take his career in but when he went to RADA it felt like he'd come home.He said there was a play that he did, sorry I can't remember what but it was early in his career that he got the worst reviews he'd ever had and it was the play he liked best.

After AM had finished asking him questions about his early career the audince was asked if they had any questions. Someone asked about Rachel Corrie and he said that he goes every night. He also said that there were talks going on about taking the play to NY and he said there were a lot of worries about extremists kicking up a fuss and he was worried about Megan Dodds' safety. So if it goes to Broadway it seems he will be there.

He also said that he had a little voice inside him to which he listened when deciding to take parts and that there shouls be a 10 year old child inside every actor. He said when he was offered the role of Hans Gruber in Die Hard he wanted to turn it down and his agent wouldn't let him as he'd only been in Hollywood a couple of days and people didn't get offered things like that so quickly. He said that he changed the role around by questioning the way Hans did things such as why he carried weapons when he had all these six foot brutes around him and why was he dressed like he was instead of wearing a suit and this tied in with him being able to pretend to be American when talking to Bruce Willis at the party. He was very diplomatic when talking about Kevin Costner and said that the film was called Robin Hood, intimating that it was not called The Sheriff of Nottingham.

I have to say that AR did not seem too thrilled to be there and after he escaped through a side door. <joke gone bad edited out> There was no oportunity for pics or autographs and I'm guessing he was going on somewhere after as Rima was with him, sitting in the front and wearing a long black coat. If I remember anything else I will post it tomorrow.

Sue, Red Tango and Elaine, sorry we didn't get to say goodbye after the show but we suddenly realized it would be more politic to go through the other door on the way out and then we lost sight of you. It was lovely to meet you all.

current mood: excited

I just got home from that interview with Andrew Marr and I must say it was more about Alan's life, films and theatre than about graphic design.

Unfortunately I can only remember a few questions, but maybe someone made a transcript.

Alan first told the audience not to take any pictures or make any recordings, otherwise he would kill us *lol*. This is what he said.

They talked about his school and uni experiences and his films. Than there were some questions from the audience.

I remember one question from one woman in the audience, it's about "MNiRC". She asked if this play was going to be transfered to America. Alan told us that they were trying to get it to New York, but they need to know what the respond would be. Because some think he's an ignorant and anti-semitist and that he would be worried about Megan's savety.

Later more questions, when I will remember them.

Rima was also sitting inside the lecture theatre.

CatsPlay, Die Hard isn't one of my favorites so I can't say that I've ever noticed the accent change before.  I'll have to check it out.

Nice cap you made there.  I've never been able to use my "print screen" key to make a cap from a video.  The cap is always black.  However I do use a little freeware program called PrintKey2000 that has worked for me.  Also, I PowerDVD is an excellent DVD player software that has an excellent screen capture feature too.

Laurie, I put the dancing baby .gif in our smilie "bank" yesterday.  Nice use of it, Peekabooh!  *grin*

Thanks for the link, Ulrika!  I think Mr. Radcliffe may need to watch his back if he plans on some pranks because I think our AR is pretty adept to playing them himself!  LOL

Woo hoooo ladies!  I just checked the stats for our little group and we have hit an all time high!  The number of hits (as in just looking at our book..doesn't mean there was a post) our book usually gets in a month is usually around 30,000.  Last month we had 35,000 and as of today, the month of October we are at 40,632 and we still have almost a whole week to go!

So, Dee, this word "gack" sounds funny, yeah and I looked up a slang dictionary but found only the following:

gaga Adj. Insane, just a little crazy.
gagging (for something) Phrs. To have an extreme desire for something. E.g."I'm gagging for a night of vigorous, sweaty, dancing."
gagging for it Phrs. Eager for sex.
gak Noun. Cocaine. [Mainly London use]

Well, what do you think?? I mean, "gagging fits you well, doesn't it?

CBBC Newsround attended the press photocall for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in London, and when Dan Radcliffe answered one of the questions, he mentioned Rickman:

"Has Daniel been playing any more pranks?"

Daniel: I did one on the first film. It's a sad moment when the main priority goes from making fun of people to school, but I was doing my GCSEs last year and they took the place of a lot of other things. I'll make up for it in the fifth film. I might chuck a can of paint over Alan Rickman, or a massive can of paint over the entire cast!

Hi Claudia,

Thanks for the invite to share impressions of the AR movies as I watch them.  I watched Die Hard last night, and although I of course had seen it years ago I had fun watching it with my new sense of Alan-ness!  So deliciously evil as Hans!  There were a couple of times I just laughed out loud with the glee at him!

I do have a question -- of course Hans had a German accent -- however - I found it quite interesting that in the scene in which the terrorists first come in upon the hostages and Alan begins reading their 'mission' from the agenda book that he had -- he read it with his regular English accent -- very prim and proper.  I guess this just was intended to show the eccentricity of Hans?

I also used my DVD watching thingie on my computer and was playing around learning how to do screen captures while watching.  However, I was doing it wrong, and the only one that came out was this.  It is when he is hanging off the building at the end.  Enjoy!

Wouldn't it be hysterical if several ladies showed up one evening with those pillowcases for AR to autograph?! He'd have ample proof how many of us dream of sleeping with him! Talk about performance pressure! I can just see the eyebrow...

Chalebh - *snort* And if teh man ever forgets his name, we can all remind him! I thought AR was wonderful in Love Actually (although the weakness of his character made me furious!). His performances was so understated -- he can say so much by saying nothing at all! It all shows in his eyes, expressions, body language...

Speaking of body language... the dancing ferret was hysterical! I needed a good chuckle today! Thanks bunches! Don't all the characters look so grown up. And they're acting skills are getting very, very good.

Chelsea Talk - I am so jealous I could gack! (I don't know what "gack" means, but I like it) By the time I can afford a trip to London, AR will be in a nursing home. *grumbles and goes off to take a shower to get ready for work*

Ohhhh Kaaaaaay!  I want to wish everyone that will be attending the talk tonight mucho luck and I hope you all will have a great time!!!!  Can't wait to hear from yall....not only about AR but about any meetings/parties you may have!

As Peekabooh (who still hasn't washed that elbow yet ) says....stories...piccies....transcripts....(shhh) recordings...anything AND everything is welcome!!!!

Hi Neice and welcome to our group!  Thanks for the heads up on the HP Uno cards! That will make a nice Christmas prezzie or two!

Alba, Brunopress pics, although usually ridden with watermarks, are always good ones.  For instance, as far as I know they are the only ones to have that latest pic of AR at the book launch.

Mia, my favorite AR film is Truly Madly Deeply.

Ulrika, you're right that Judas Kiss isn't one of the treasure AR films. But I actually liked the story and of course the sexual tainted banter between AR's and ET's characters. But I really do think that film could have been a better success had it been under a more experienced director and film crew.  JMHO, of course.

Helen, thanks for the explanation on the Spanish DVD.

CatsPlay, congrats on your AR purchases.  You will have many hours of "ARness" to look forward to!

Alanfan...that's an excellent thought!  You never know....AM just might have parts or maybe all of the interview!  Its worth keeping an eye on!

Congrats Hikity on RC making it to the monthly!  As for the new weekly vote, I'm torn between Prince William, Jon Bon Jovi, and Robert Downey Jr.  Awww, what the heck, I think I'll stick with robbing the cradle and vote for the Prince.  *grin*

There has never been a first-generation region 1 DVD of Closet Land, as far as I know.  Same for Rasputin, though I've heard there is a region 2 DVD from, I think, Holland that is still available.  Or was recently.

Neice - Harry Potter Uno? Oh dear...now one more piece of needless Snape stuff that I MUST buy! I can't wait to clutch #3 tightly to my boosom and shout "UNO!" Thanks for sharing!

OT - I saw where Rosa Parks died. Must admit that I didn't realise she was still living. Her famous stand for civil rights happened before I was born - so to me, it fit into the heroic deeds of history books. How amazing that this strong, courageous woman was still with us in this day and age.

I hope everyone down south is safe from Wilma!

I so enjoy reading this page (thank you everyone!!) but don't usually have anything terribly interesting to add.   But this occurred to me to share last night while I was playing cards with my family.

This is for those Alan Rickman/Snape fans who like to play card games.  My family and I often play Harry Potter Uno.  It's based on the Uno card games with additional "magic" cards like a "howler" and an" invisibility cloak."  It's enjoyed by all-ages and the big perk for AR fans is that occasionally you get to look at Snape's lovely smirk on the number 3 cards.  Perfect way to combine family time with your Snape obsession.

Have a great night, All!!

Favourite Rickman films??

All Harry Potter films !!! (OK, I admit it...I have a crush on Professor Snape), Blow Dry (Alan Rickman is WONDERFUL in this film), Sense and Sensibility, Love Actually and Something the lord made. And he's deliciously evil in Die Hard and Robin Hood.....but since I'm a Potter-addict as well, my favourite Rickman character will probably always be Snape, .

My least favourite Rickman film, no doubt, is Judas Kiss..... I hate to say it, but that film isn't good at all....in fact, it is really really bad.....not that Rickman and Emma Thompson aren't good, because they always are, but the story isn't and I would only recommend Rickmaniacs to buy it!

But almost any other Rickman film is worth seeing
