Happy Friday everyone glad this week is over it has been a long and busy week--doing double time to catch up from being busy with my son--fortunately all is well in that neighborhood. Am looking forward to a quiet weekend with Mesmer and Winter Guest! |

Comments: | Friday is almost here, ladies! Yipeee! Me wonders how he would react if The Preacher were mentioned in one of the fans meetings. Its certainly not one of the mainstream films for which he probably hears about over and over and over. Bet whomever mentioned TP would get a second glance, that's for sure! LOL Thanks for re-posting the link, Emily. I think it was the Comedy Central channel that aired Allan Havey. I have looked for the Arsenio interview for the longest time. If ever I get my hands on it, I will be a happy camper. Arsenio is so very funny so I bet the interview is hilarious. You're in good company, Sniv. There's a bunch of us that wished we had an extra 1000 pounds laying around for the FEE! But keep your fingers crossed that we have lots of stories to read after its over. I hope your RickMANIAC attack wasn't to severe. Thanks a bunch Aelwynne for your reports on Bowness, TMD/NFT, and Private Lives. Did you get to talk to him when you got his autograph? |

Comments: | Hello to everyone.
I went to both Bowness and the NFT to see Truly, Madly, Deeply and also to London and New York to see Private Lives. As Elyott, he was fantastic, I was sitting in the front row on the balcony side and had a really good view of him. At Bowness, I got his autograph and at the NFT I was in the second row on AR's side as he was speaking. |

Comments: | Allen Havey link below is not working. Try this one.
This was a very short lived late night talk show on American TV. I can't remember what network it was. This guy Allen Havey seems to have disappeared off the radar too. He was kind of nerdy and he had only one guest per show and apparently Alan was one of them! I'm thinking this was 1991-1992. I didn't see AR's show. I have known about the Havey thing for a while, and have made inquiries on TV-tape-trading groups, but no tape has surfaced. The other lost tape to look for is AR's appearance on "Arsenio Hall", I think 1991, promoting RHPOT. |

Comments: | Hey SARF! Glad you were able to get the clip going. I was just about to do a test download and see if there was a problem with the file. SARF posted a cute little story about an AR meeting over at Suzanne's that she found at Fame Tracker forums: "Anyhow, the best encounter was when Alan Rickman came into the kid's branch of the store. We had to go get my co-worker from downstairs because she adored him. My manager rings up Alan Rickman and then steps aside to let my co-worker put the books in a bag and had them over (because she's practically vibrating with excitement at this point). As she gives him the bag, she bursts out "Mr Rickman, Truly, Madly, Deeply is my favorite movie ever!" He flashes her this charming grin and said "Oh my darling, you must move on," and waltzed out of the store." SARF, if you trip up on that url again, would you post it or send it to me? |

Comments: | LOL, I'll be sure not to, Emily! Thanks. Super BRAVO to SF!! She posted the Emmy program pics over at Suzanne's Publicity shot or not, I really like that pic. SF also provided a link to a show called the Allan Havey Show. She asked if anyone caught when AR was guest on this show. I've never heard of the show much less caught AR on it. How about anyone here?

Comments: | Quick thinking with that quote, sonoma! Amazing! I don't think it would be to expensive to record these events--not in this day and time. Ten years or even five years ago would have been a different story but not now. I can see how they might think that recording the event might hinder attendance but I don't agree. The chance to meet the admired (no matter whom it is) is well worth trying to get to the event. For instance, I would attend AND buy the CD and/or DVD if I had the means. Besides the chance to go global with the cause would possibly make up for any profits lost by someone not attending said function. Crossing fingers that there will be a fan or few that will give us some details! I had forgotten about the rich laugh AR does in ATTCTOO. Its been so long since I listened to it--I must do that soon. |

Comments: | I also wish some of these charitable events could be filmed and distributed, but it's probably really expensive to do and you could never be sure you'd make a profit, let alone get back the money spent. Oh well, as The Preacher says, "God created rich people first." I look at it as a sort of private party amongst friends, though I'm sure there's a fan or two who can afford to go who will hopefully tell us about it. At least the money is going to a very worthy cause--after all, RADA produced AR! A Trick to Catch the Old One is great! What I love most about this one is that you hear AR out and out laugh, something his characters rarely seem to do, but I hope he does a lot in his real life. |

Comments: | RE: The nativity pic I posted yesterday. I don't know which one is AR for sure but my best guess would be Joseph. But I have seen this hashed out many times and it really is just a guess. What I referred to as "Bowness" was actually an event the helped raise money to help save the Old Laundry Theatre. The Old Laundry is located in Bowness-on-Windermere. During the anticipation of the event and subsequent reports from fans that attended the event it was referred to as "Bowness" or "Old Laundry". The event included screenings of Sense and Sensibility, Galaxy Quest, and the Winter Guest. AR did little interviews before each screening plus there was a huge interview and Q&A session. TMD at the National was a screening of Truly Madly Deeply at the National Theatre in which AR and Juliet Stevenson were on hand for a Q&A session afterwards. There were lots of fan accounts to this event as well. Of all the events so far, it is the TMD event I most wished I had been able to attend. If we're lucky maybe some of the lucky ones that did attend will post about their experiences. ANA JULIA! You're welcome on The Seagull! I couldn't help but giggle when I read your offer of a kidney for the Mesmer DVD! That was to cute! |

Comments: | I knew I would forget something! Elaine told me about this a few days ago from info that she got from her Friends of RADA newsletter but I didn't realize the information was online until it was announced over at Suzanne's. But ladies, what would we not do to be at the Jerwood Vanbrugh Theatre on November 7,8,9, and 10???? Apparently not pay a 1000 pounds (1,810.50 USD)!!! Here I go with a rant.....it seems like as easy as it is these days to make CDs and DVDs that these organizations would invest in the equipment to record these events and then market to the online communities with proceeds to go to the organization! I mean they can only take in so many people at the venue and technology opens the world to them. The upcoming event is going to be packed with talent I would give an arm and leg to see. Not just AR but Victoria Wood, Robert Lindsay, Ruby Wax, Richard Wilson, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. Then there's the Bowness event, the TMD event at the National. The list goes on and on. OK...rant over. ;-) |

Comments: | LOL You're not alone in the hypocrite fan section, Sabine. I've enjoyed the new pics too and felt very guilty about it to boot! Maybe not so great news about buying two Mesmer DVDs, Kathy but its great news for some lucky fan! Thanks for making the offer. Its very generous of you. Speaking of generous offers, do you still have an extra copy of Dogma, Anke? If no one asks right away, Kathy and Anke, announce it here as often as you like. Someone is bound to have a peek at us and see the offer for the first time and respond. The only picture of AR as a child that exists in the published community that I know of is the picture in the "Alan Rickman Unauthorized Biography". See it here: There have been several times that the boards and groups have had go rounds about which child is AR. So, which one do you think he is?

Comments: | Thanks for the info on STLM I didn't see it the first time it was on and I am so glad to know we have a second chance to see it. Guess who is subscribing to HBO??!! I am so glad I found this site I wouldn't have known this.
OK, now you all will know how spacey I am--It is Mesmer I have 2 copies of. They are both brand new DVD's I don't know how I did it other than I thought I had ordered TWG and didn't. So if anyone would like to have one of them I will be glad to give it away--just let me know it is NTSC form (USA). Mesmer is fabulous and I was so sorry it never made it to the theaters. To watch the movie and then watch the download of the making of mesmer is so telling about AR--it is so sweet to see him talking to the little boy who plays mesmer as a child and explaining thru an interpreter what the boy mesmer is thinking and seeing. It tells much about AR. Has anyone ever seen childhood pictures of AR? Kathy |

I am quite torn about those photos in the grocery store. On the one hand it makes me cringe to think that someone took pictures of AR when he's not aware of it. He might not even know that these pictures exist. I think it's such an invasion of privacy. On the other hand, I can't help but look at the pictures. Yes, I am a hypocrite! LOL I think he looks great in these pictures, btw. |

Comments: | This is written on the back of the published playscript of the version of The Seagull that AR was in: "Thomas Kilroy's new version of The Seagull is a reappraisal of Chekhov's classic play. The action is transposed to the West of Ireland in the late nineteenth century. In the decline of the Anglo-Irish estates and the emergence of the Land League, Kilroy discovers illuminting parallels to the shifts in Russian society that inform Checkhov's original." I honestly don't mind the way AR looks in those photos. It's kind of nice seeing him at ease, as the normal human being he is. I do hope it doesn't bother him and he can laugh it off, if he happens to see it. I don't think he can avoid this sort of thing at this point! |

Comments: | Oh that poor man, I would hate for someone to take my picture either at the grocery store. Sweats, no makeup, probably no hair combed either. Like today I actually was walking around with a hole in my shirt that I didn't notice when I put it on this morning! At least he has the guts to go out anyway and d*** the paparazzi. His hair actually looks better than at the Emmy's.
Anke are you a teacher? Just stopped in on my way to do some errands and tho't I see what you all were doing. Sorry to hear of the Yukky weather in GA we haven't had any of it here in Arkansas. Comments: | I kind of recognize myself in those horrible photographs... I have to get some groceries, but I am not really willing to go out. So I don't put any make-up on my face and grab the first thing I can find to put on, I don't care it needs ironing. The only thing I am going to do is run to the supermarket, get what I need and run back home where no one is judging my looks. I feel terrible if I meet someone in the supermarket... Sometimes there is a pupil from my school behind the register... Or worse, parents from pupils are doing there groceries in the same store!!! Thank God those pupils and parents aren't carrying camera's! It's a totally different me then they are seeing in 'public'.
Maybe we should banish this kind of pictures! Let the man do his shopping in privet (that is the way I like it). Poor me, school and work are the same for me!!! But it wasn't really yukkie today. It is special week full of games and plays. Tired though... Thank you so much for the new audio Claudia! I'm getting behind listening and watching. I have seen the 'Seagull' as a play, and I think it will be great to hear Alan's voice in it. Anke |

Comments: | Claudia, I didnt mean that you should stop working on "Blood Wedding"! That's the play with the line "to burn with desire and keep quiet about it ..." etc etc. I think everyone needs to hear that line!
"That Man Bracken" is a fictionalized "speculation" about a British politician named Brendan Bracken. He was born in Ireland at the turn of the century and went to great lengths to conceal his "low" beginnings, so great was his desire to be accepted into the cream of British society. He was basically a con man who rose to become a confidante of Winston Churchill. AR plays Bracken. There's a lot of humor in this play. Bracken is on some level a fool but on another level quite touching. AR is very spirited, but also heartbreaking, especially in Bracken's later years when he was terminally ill and his carefully constructed identity was falling apart. Here is some information on Brendan Bracken. |

Comments: | I just noticed I grabbed a synopsis of THE Chekhov version of The Seagull It would seem there were some name changes between the Chekhov and BBC radio versions. The BBC version is set in Ireland. AR's character's name is actually Aston which is Trigorin in the synopsis I pasted below. There are other name changes as well but the jest of the play is the same. Another interesting note on The Seagull. Anna Massey who played Miss Prism in the 2002 version of Importance of Being Earnest> is Constintine's mother, Isabella. She was also in Pity in History with AR. I just love spotting other British extraordinaires in some of this old stuff! LOL |

Comments: | And its gonna rain all day in our parts thanks to Mean Jeanne, Sabine! That makes the YUKS even "YUKKIER"! LOL I suppose I have to do some fessing up! I have had these plays for a very long time. And since I have had every intension of uploading them to the site, I figured I would listen to them as I digitized! Lazy, huh? The Seagull is a Chekhov play. Here is a general synopsis At Madame Treplev's estate, her son, Konstantin, presents an outdoor performance of his new play, in which the single character (actually just a voice) is played by Nina, a neighbor's daughter, with whom Konstantin is hopelessly in love. When Madame Treplev, a famous actress, makes light of the angst-filled play, Konstantin angrily stops the performance. Later, Nina becomes infatuated with Trigorin, a literary man and Madame Treplev's current lover. When Madame Treplev and Trigorin move back to Moscow, Nina follows, hoping to become an actress. There, she has an affair with Trigorin. Masha, the daughter of the family steward, is in love with Konstantin (who couldn't care less for her), but marries Medvedenko, the local schoolmaster. Two years later, Nina has returned to the country, where Konstantin continues to live and work on his writing. Konstantin believes that he and Nina might make a fresh start together, but she rejects him. In the end, he goes out and shoots himself. You'll be able to find some info on That Man, Bracken and Blood Wedding at The Rickmanista Review Or better yet....Emily please tell us about TMB, if you will. Also, an anonymous fan has sent me a clearer, much larger picture of the shopping images. IMHO, the captions are just atrocious and uncalled for. Its a pity that journalism (if you want to call it that) would stoop so low. |

Comments: | Is everyone ready for the Monday YUKS??? I know I'm not! The Conan interview is quite funny. The earthquake story and the driving license being what stands out in my mind. Listening to AR describe the his driving lessons was quite funny too. I suppose there really is no way to determine how old those shopping pics could be. But it does look like the same jacket he wore to the Luxury Lounge last weekend, doesn't it? I really shiver at the thought of someone taking my picture and how I have looked sometimes on a quick market run. I can really feel for celebrities. We all know what horrors paparazzi can wreak--its awful. Thanks Emily for mentioning that The Seagull is an audio play. After I shut down my PC and went to bed it occurred to me that there may be some people that don't know that. I do have That Man, Braken and will slip it in front of Blood Wedding for getting up on the site this week. I'll return to BW next week or the weekend.

Comments: | Hi All,
Glad to hear the Speilberg thing was untrue also--didn't sound like him I must say. Had fun this weekend listening to the audio downloads. That speech by Sen. Byrd that AR read at the Nat'l Theatre last year is beautiful, I remember listening to it on CNN when he gave it AR does it beautifully I'm glad he did it. Tho't the Conan interview was cute, funny--can imagine him looking for his unders in the dark! I guess it's off to work or school for all of us tomorrow--weekends are too short. Have a good week everyone. All is finally back to normal at my house tonight. Thank goodness. Kathy |

Comments: | I thought the story was real when I first read it too, SM. I thought what a horrible horrible idea and thought it was very out of character for Spielberg to speak to anyone in public that way. Thanks for the explanation, Emily. Once in a while these wild stories do get spread, unfortunately. Nathalie, I have been peeking at some of the Live Journals lately. One of the ladies on Suzanne's GB has one and I became curious and clicked on her link! LOL She has really done some great work on icons. I will take a peek at yours soon. I hope everyone has had a fabulous weekend.

If you don't have that anymore, I'll re-send it to you soon! Hope you're well! Nat |

Comments: | Another Google alert! This time from the Seattle Times Boys do cry: Fall film lineup includes "male weepies"
AR is mentioned in the Sense and Sensibility portion of the article But listen to Thompson's commentary on the "Sense and Sensibility" DVD: Of the scene where Kate Winslet, having just recovered from near-death, finally notices the noble Alan Rickman standing broodingly at the door, Thompson says, "This is where the men cry." It's not a romantic moment but an acknowledgment of his quiet, heroic deeds — a moment of great dignity, suitable for a few manly tears. Awww, yes our dear sweet quiet wonderful Colonel Brandon. For years I thought that mold was broken until I met my Sweetie. And bless him, he comes to my rescue all the time! |

Comments: | Google alert from the Times Online! The trials and triumphs of Brits on film
The AR related text: 1988 Alan Rickman accepts the lead villain role in Die Hard, securing employment for any distinguished British thespian — from Jeremy Irons to Art Malik — who wants to pick up a fat pay cheque and out-act an A-list Hollywood hero. And Richard Curtis is mentioned twice! How could I not mention Rufus Wainwright, sonoma? His music on the When Love Speaks CD was great too. And he has such a recognizable voice. For instance, I bought the I Am Sam soundtrack and the minute I heard his voice in Across the Universe I knew who it was! Hi Zzzzz and welcome. I didn't keep track of how many requests I've had about a guest book. But they started rolling in right after first published my email address on the site. So far this GB has been a delight and not a chore. |

Comments: | Just wanted to agree with Claudia's praise of the Annie Lennox sonnet on When Love Speaks. Of course, I think AR picked the best one, but my other favorite is Rufus Wainwright's "When, in disgrace with fortune in men's eyes." Gotta thank AR again for leading me to this wonderful artist whom I hadn't heard of before. AR looks great in those photos! I hope it was a good movie. |

Comments: | Hope you were able to catch the Buzz clip relatively easily, sonoma. I know the time differences can really be a pain sometimes. I believe AR did mention something about nudity for the sake of art somewhere but I can't remember where. Maybe we will need to search Claire's Gold mine of interviews and articles. (Hmmm, Claire's was the first result I received when I googled AR for the first time!) Not only did AR do "The Dive" and "The Walk" in Dark Harbor, he also did full frontal nudity live on stage in The Grass Widow. When Love Speaks does contain a lot of great recitations and music. It is packed with British talent (my favorite group of celebs!). I especially like the song Annie Lennox does Live With Me and Be My Love. I love Lennox's music anyway. And I do believe that it doesn't matter where you buy the CD because there has to be an initial purchase for which a portion is given to RADA. That would certainly be something to look into for verification. Kathy, I'm so glad your son is doing better and back home. Tell him we said "hello"!
ANA JULIA--you are NOT a dummie! Thanks for the offer of the Conan O'Brien and Brunch VideoGrams. But those are Suzanne's. She has been working very hard to get her video gallery back online and as soon as she does, there will be a lot of happy Rickmaniacs. Its sad that her hard work isn't readily available. If someone doesn't have the Conan and Brunch VideoGrams, email me and I will send them to you. I also have someone that is going to send me the Conan interview on tape so I can make a .wmv for this site. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to locate The View on tape yet but when I do, I'll do a .wmv of it too. I updated the Music Video page with a new video from Forla. Its Closet Land/Mein Herz Brennt (My Heart Burns). Enjoy! Have a great Saturday, everyone!

I can see there are lots of new downloads to look/listen to. Thank you all you wonderful people who can do all those mysterious computer things to bring them to us. They are very much appreciated.
I agree about the Preacher--after I watched it I was ready to sign up for the French Revolution! I just got the cd of When Love speaks from Amazon. I hope RADA gets their share of the proceeds buying it that way. It is a fabulous cd all the people on it are wonderful--Joseph Fiennes is terrific, too. The music is very good, sometimes a little different, but wonderfully so. I have to ask a really silly question. Every movie I see AR in his hair is a different color--what color is his hair really? Have a good weekend everyone Brought my son home today from the hospital, he is better, they decided his diabetes was just way out of control and he was very dehydrated--all other tests came out OK. Thanks for the kind thoughts. It was a help to be able to drop in and chat with you all about AR --took my mind off of things Thanks :-)) Kathy |

Comments: | I agree that AR must be okay with getting naked for the sake of his art (didn't he say in an interview somewhere that you just try to imagine it's happening to someone else?), but I wonder how celebrities feel about such images being taken out of context. But yeah, if you put something out there, you've got to expect people will access it, and perhaps not as artfully as Elaine (thanks so much for sharing your great photo albums!). Maybe he'd be flattered that people appreciate every inch of him? Oh no, not another Buzz clip to hunt for on HBO! I wish I was 3 hours ahead of you than behind you, Claudia. But I'm glad you caught it and now I'm off to the downloads. I hope everyone has a great weekend ahead! |

Comments: | Glad everyone is enjoying the "Buzz" clip. There is a funny little irony to this. Emily mailed me about the clip which I got at work. I rushed home at lunch and was going to set the vrcs to record HBO and HBO2 for the afternoon. I noticed that there was a film ending on HBO2 at 12:45 and the next was starting at 1 so I thought I would watch the fill in to see what they show. Of course, since the clip is available you know that I was able to catch the show. Now the irony comes into play when I tell you what the film was that I had to watch the ending of (not that I'm complaining LOL). Dances With Wolves was the film. So essentially, I had to sit through a bit of Costner to see AR! LOL Anke, I'm so glad you like visiting here so much. I will try to not to use an acronym for a film until I have stated the full title from now on. But, I can be very forgetful so if I do, don't hesitate to ask. We will be glad to tell you. I linked the url to "Stalking Alan Rickman" Anke. I hope you don't mind. From now on, Sabine, GA and I will start linking urls when we see them posted as long as no one minds. I still laugh at that article every time I read it. And the link is a nice addition here. Thanks, Anke. Also, SuzyQ--if you will look back at my posts, you will see I screw up spelling, grammar, and I skip words all the time! So don't be shy! |

Comments: | Hi everybody,
I really do like to read the guest book!!! Sometimes difficult to understand, but its good practice for me. I get a bit confused by the initials of the film... PoA... WHAT??? O... of course Prisoner of Azkeban... I do have the DVD... but still... Jo, I have Mesmer and Dark Harbour on a region 2... Mesmer without the subtitles, no English subtitles either. I had to put the volume up to hear and understand everything (well most of it). The most difficulties with English I experience with more subtle language and wordplay/humor. My favourite Alan role: Well, I'm a sucker for the caller in the desert (do you know the expression in English? I guess you can understand what it means anyway), my favourite is 'The preacher'! He is fighting a lost case and still fighting. I hope the following is not considered blasphemy, but most of the time I don't really love the movies he is playing in. I like them most of the time, (with some few exeptions) but it's AR's acting that fascinates me. The first time I saw AR was in 'Truly, Madly, Deeply' (I do love this movie), and at first I thought: The man isn't really nice to her. Why the hell did he come back? At the end I got it of course... And then when you watch it again (and again and again) you can see that he knows all the time what he is doing and yet not giving anything away! I've had the same experience with 'Dark Harbour' and well, actually with almost every movie he is playing in. The strange thing is that is what you should expect from any actor, but the reality is that it's rare. Every glance and all the expressions and movements are to the point. Of course he is not the only good actor, but then there is the X-factor and he has it!!! His looks are helping of course but that is not the only thing... The offer for 'Dogma' still stands... Everybody already has a copy I suspect... I found a very funny (fictional) article. It's not new... Perhaps you have read it already. It's called "Stalking Alan Rickman". Have fun!!! Comments: | Thanks Claudia - and of course the mystery AR fan for that new Emmy afterparty clip!
It's a great little piece. I love it Alan said "well he taught me how to be cool" in answer to what he had learnt from Mos Def. Just something about the way in which he says the word "cool" makes me giggle - like it's a word he hasn't heard before or finds terriby amusing. But of course we all know this is a fallacious statement anyway Alan - you were "cool" to begin with! No need for lessons! Jo |

And guess what.....there is a bit of AR in it! Check it out. Its on the Awards page. |

Comments: | Hi Everyone. Wow, so many posts since I last checked!
Claudia, it is indeed the most wonderful news that I've fixed the comp! :) It was a very annoying and quite ridiculous problem. Turns out it was as I had expected and my comp had decided to move a very tiny (but VERY CRUCIAL!) windows programme file from one folder to a completely different one - for what reason I can't even hazard a guess! I moved it back to it's correct destination and thankfully all was well again! Firstly Anke, I empathise completely with your region coding problem as a few months ago, I did exactly the same thing - but opposite. Got some Region 1 DVDS of "Dark Harbor" and "Mesmer" off Amazon.uk from an American seller (they are not available for Region 2). Now I changed the region on WINDVD on my comp to enable me to watch them, but like you, didn't realize it locks itself on a certain region after a certain number of changes. Needless to say it got locked on Region 1 and even re-installing the programme didn't set it back to region 2. In the end I had to get a whole new separate dvd player to watch my English ones again! Still, "Dark Harbor" and "Mesmer" were definitely worth the trouble! Elaine, thanks for the bookmarks and wallpapers - they're superb - and so many of them too! How on earth did you find time to make them all?! Sabine, I agree completely, it would be fabulous to see AR'S out-takes - I'm sure even an exceptionally talented and experienced actor like himself must have some storming out-takes somewhere! And I'm sure they would be eye-wateringly hilarious to watch! That reminds me, has anyone read the "sense and sensibility diaries"? There are some great behind the scenes AR bits in that - and Emma T, bless her, describes them so captivatingly - she has such an intimate, humorous and ironic and way of writing! The whole thing was a real treat to read. Sonoma, I agree also with you when you say that it is difficult to see any AR characters as true villains or hero's because of the depth and complexity he adds to them. He really gives a lot of thought into "who" this person is that he is playing. I remember him saying in an interview (or several)he likes to make people really think about the character they are watching and what motivates their actions. He seems to refuse to let his character be pigeon-holed in to any sort of "stereo-type". I think he enjoys confusing the audience! At least that is the impression I get from interviews when he talks about how he approaches a character. Kathy, I am very sorry to hear about your son - I really hope he is better soon and back at home with you! I'm also sorry to hear that your comp has been given you as much grief as mine - they can be the biggest nightmare, can't they? - I almost wish I didn't have one sometimes - well "almost"! You mention French and Saunders - I agree, they are indeed "AB-FAB" and have done some brilliant sketches (I trust you've seen the HP one?). I haven't seen the computer one, although I really wish I had as it sounds hilarious! :) Jo |

Comments: | TGIF, everyone! Wonderful news, Jo! So glad you can enjoy Suzanne's videograms once again. Awww, yes sonoma, The Bell. My favorite AR phrase from that piece is "two slighty sampled electric guitars". I find myself humming the tune for hours after listening to it. RE: AR's "bits" being on the Internet. I was a bit uncomfortable for a while about it but not because I thought AR would be uncomfortable or concerned. He did, afterall, do the scene in the film without the help of a double. So he seems at ease about his body. What I was concerned about was minors viewing them (being the prude I can be at times). But several months ago, I really started having a look around at the different AR sites and some of the boards and I have to tell you...those pics are everywhere--freely available for anyone to see. Not to mention the film (rated R) is pretty readily available to rent and I don't know of a video rental associate that asks for ID. So I suppose you can say I have relented and just go with the flow! LOL I do like all of Elaine's artwork. I think she and SuzyQ have very keen sense for design. Not to worry, ladies. Israel Yates (From Sleep and Shadow) will be gracing the Television page soon. Thanks for mentioning Isarel, sonoma. When his characters are mentioned, I seem to have the blinders on and tend to think only of his film characters for some unknown reason. Bravo on the try to get more info on Four Last Songs, Kathy. You get A+ for effort, that's for sure. I have the url bookmarked (as I am sure everyone does) thanks to our Ab Fab Emily! |

Comments: | Hi everyone, it is so nice to see people from all over the world at this site. Just got home and before I hit the sack I wanted to check in with my AR buddies. MMMMMM cream tea, I know exactly what it is and it is lucious--went to England in 1980 the year before I got married and had a ball we went on a shoe string which made it really fun! But we had cream tea every chance we could! Went again in 2002 to take my boys to London for 2 weeks had a great time.
Wish I'd known about AR then I would have made it a point to see him in Private lives. Did see another of my favorites tho, Michael Ball in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Happy Birthday to the new 50 y/o glad I now have company in that area! I e-mailed BBC on a whim the other day to see if they had any further info on 4 Last Songs but unfortunately they sent a sweet note but no further info--just said keep watching that space! Jo I am glad to know that I am not the only one who has computer problems. I saw the funniest sketch done by French and Saunders on just that subject and the punch line was put in your PIN and tell it how much money you want. (I love them too. Ab Fab makes me cry with laughter). Well guys I am off to bed to listen to Winter guest CD--so soothing. My son is status quo--doing lots of tests to see what is wrong. He is in good spirits today. They have a play station at the hospital so as long as he is plugged into it he is happy. Enjoy you all. Have a good Friday, Kathy |

Comments: | I've just enjoyed listening to Tubular Bells II while checking email--I love The Bell! As for AR's characters, I think he has a special talent for making them very complex and interesting, no matter how they're written, so I don't usually see them as complete heroes or villains. I'd say one of my favorites so far is Israel (etc.) Yates because of his boundless passion and energy, but it really is too hard to pick just one. By the way, it's marvelous to see posts from people whom I've only known before as contributors of amazing items to Claudia's great site. Everyone's so talented, thanks for sharing! (and while I wonder what AR would think of his "bits" being on the internet, I admit I looked...) |

Comments: | Hi everybody,
Just a short message, local time is almost 12 of clock and its a working day tomorrow... Longer answers/messages coming soon... And it gives me some more time to think about my favourite AR role. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUZY And I got inspired by Kathy. I have two DVD's of Dogma. One I bought second hand... It is a bit scratched, not in very good condition although I could play it without any problems. The main reason I bought an other one is that it's a region 1 DVD, and my computer will only switch so many times and though I should be able to reinstall my DVD player, I found it simpler to buy a region 2 one (Dutch subtitles are a pro). So... If anyone wants to have it, just mail me and pay for the delivery. That will be just fine!!! That's it... have to get some sleep!!! Anke |

No Problem, I love this clip anyway. Just wanted to inform you. I'm really impressed by your work. I know that I've got no talent to do this. You've got German friends? Cool! I've got some American friends. Nicole |

Comments: | Hi Claudia, don't feel bad you can't help more - something has clearly got completely messed up on my comp. I've been to the microsoft help page and went through a whole load of instructions that related to the exact error message I was experiencing and still it doesn't work.
I really don't understand what went wrong in the first place and why I can't seem to correct it. Needless to say I am terribly annoyed at my comp as several of my Fav AR interviews are in that format and it means I can't watch them anymore either (namely Conan o' Brien interview and another with Alan, Emma T and Philyda Law discussing winter guest - the file is called View-2 I think). Just one more question, do you have any idea how I can convert these files to a different format (WMV for example) that my comp will allow me to play. Seriously though, I really appreciate the time you've spent helping me on this and as I say don't worry that you couldn't fix it :) - from the looks of it, I don't know who can! :( It is great news to hear that GH will be up on this site soon though - and thankfully yes, my comp does play WMV files - well at least at the moment it does! Yours Thankfully, Jo |

Comments: | There's no need to "re-download" the file if none of your other VGs play, Jo. Sorry, I didn't take that into consideration when I made the suggestion. There is definitely something not right on your computer for I run XP at home and work and the VGs do play for me. I'm sorry I can't be of anymore help. I hope you can get it straightened out. I did post yesterday that I will have a copy of the interview soon and will put it up on the download site as soon as I get it in .wmv format. With that one, you will be able to play it through Windows Media Player. |

Comments: | Ahhhhh, so that's what you meant by operating system! Thanks - I was confused and thought you must have meant something more specific. Yes, I have windows XP. It's strange that you say nothing needs to be downloaded to view it as I'm sure I had to downloaded something to view them originally - what it was I can't remember - wish I could! Maybe an add on or something - I think it was reccommended on the page that had the clips - think it was "the Alan Rickman Fan Page" - run by flights of fancy Claudia. The video page of that site is unfortunately down at the mo, otherwise I'd check there.
I tried to view the clips at the link you posted but I'm afraid they link to the site that times out on my browzer. I will have a go at re-downloading the clip, like you suggested but have my doubts due to the other VG files I have not working either. This really is so mysterious - I have no idea what's going on with my comp. If it helps, the message I get when I try to open the file is " C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application " I know it was "suitable" before, as these files played once, so could there be something wrong with my comp settings? Thanks again for all your help - Jo |

Comments: | Hmm, since you were able to play the VGs at one time you must be running a Windows (95, 98, ME, XP...) operatiing system (it could also be Mac, Unix, etc but Windows is the most popular on home systems). The VideoGram is an "executable" so you don't need a player to play it. Well, you do need a player but its built into the file--in other words double clicking on the file should "execute" the player to play the video for you. The reason I asked what operating system you have is because the Mac systems can not open any type of executable program hence you would need assistance of another program to open the executable. I know that was far more than you wanted to know and Lord knows I probably confused you even more. Sorry. Might I suggest, if you are running a Windows based OS, that you delete the file you downloaded and then download it again. Let me know how that goes. BTW, I can't seem to find the VG website anymore either. I wonder if they were bought out and by whom. There is a site that offers VG samples. This is another thing you might want to try. Download one of the samples on this site and see if it will play. |

Comments: | Hi Claudia, sorry, I'm having a dense moment here. What do you mean when say "operating system" - specifically?
It's truly weird, those file types used to work on my comp but seem not to now suddenly - as I said, it's like the software that enabled me to play it has vanished from my comp! Either that, or some other player software has somehow disrupted it (DIVX or something). What do you think? The only reasonably "easy" thing I can think of to do is to download and install the software for videogram player again from the web - but even that is proving impossible. I can't seem to find anywhere that has it. I seem to end up getting linked to 2 main sites - one of which doesn't exist anymore and another for which the gateway always times out. Do you think it's something to do with my settings then? Sorry, about all this, I really appreciate all your help- thanks! Jo |

Comments: | Oh of course - Galaxy Quest! How could I forget that one?! It was the first AR film I remember seeing! Yes the "fed-up" sarcastic nature of his character contrasted so well with Tim Allen's immature self-obsessed one and created a great chemistry between them! It was especially thrilling watching how he reacted to Tim Allens character in terms of tone of voice and especially facial expressions - very comical, I agree! It's a superb film!
The 4 yorkshire one was hilarious also - first rule of being on stage, don't drink champagne as you doing so! But it did make for very funny watching! Possibly the most comical thing about it was watching the other guys completely losing it and really trying not to laugh and Alan managing to keep a completely straight face throughout, despite the lines that had everyone else in tears they were laughing so much. Alan, how did you manage it?? Oh and that Victoria Wood one, I know the one you mean - yeah that was a "p**s-take" of the Jane Austin films - and he did marvellously well - acting serious yet extremely comical at the same time - what a talent that is. I agree completely Sabine, he should definitely do some more comedy. Afterall, he comes across as having such a great sense of humour in interviews etc, it is indeed a shame he doesn't venture more into the comdedy side - although I'm sure he has his reasons! Claudia, TMD is truly a Heart-breakingly touching film, I'm not surprised it's your favourite. Everything about the way it was written, directed and performed by the cast was just beautiful. The chemistry between AR and Juliet S is also fab, the fact that they are great friends in real life really shines trhough and makes the relationship of Jamie and Nina so convincing - the fondness and familiarity is already there between the actors. As for Rasputin, yes I did use the word "villain" tentatively as like you it is hard to see Rasputin as a true "villain" - he was a very unique and "powerful" man - more so because of the controversy he caused rather thanhis supposed "power". I agree it's very difficult to label him as being Evil or good - he did many unfavourable things but I believe his intentions towards prince Alexei were genuinine, so it's hard to say. Ps. still can't find that damn videogram player on the web - everytime I find a link it either doesn't exist anymore or it refuses to load "gateway timed out" - gah! Jo |

Comments: | Jo, first and foremost I was thinking of Galaxy Quest. But I also thought he was hilarious in "The Four Yorkshire Men." And of course the Bruce Willis tribute. And I thought he was hysterical in the "Victoria Wood thing" (can't remember the exact title right now)! :-) |

Comments: | Well, I have to say that I am honored that our dear SuzyQ made it over. *pointing a finger* You spell just fine! don't worry about it! But come over as often as you can and hoping Cattis will make it over soon too! I was giggling at his reaction to the "seduction menu". It was quite funny to watch. Maybe it's just me but I thought he was a wee bit on the embarrassed side--not that he should have been. Well, my favorite role is Jamie but I am biased because TMD is my favorite all time film. And I do love seeing him do comedy as Sabine said. I think, though, its his ability to go from one genre and bring any character to life so easily so I suppose whatever type of character he is doing is what I prefer to see....and yes....even Snape! *giggle* Rasputin. That's a hard call. I find it hard to call him a villain. But his actions weren't the utomst upstanding. I think Rasputin really thought he had powers (and maybe he did...who am I to say he didn't) and although he used those powers for good he also used them for his benefit as well. I do venture to think that if he actually did have powers that possibly his fate was a sort of punishment for using them for his own good....maybe??? Just throwing out a wild thought there! LOL |

Comments: | Hi Claudia, thanks again for all your hard work in putting up the GH link - Suzanne too! The only trouble now is that my evil computer is refusing to play the file (Videogram Pro Player Application file). It's really strange as I already have some AR interviews in this file format that used to play fine on my comp - yet I tried them again just now to check and they wouldn't play either - How odd!
I can only assume that my infuriating comp has deleted the software needed to play them. I'm currently looking for somewhere to re-download the software but can't seem to find it anywhere - any ideas? Id be forever grateful if you or anyone else can help me. Sorry about all this - my comp really does pick it's moments to be awkward! As for the Rima/Alan situation, I'm glad you and Kathy agree. You both sum up how you (and indeed how I) feel perfectly and I agree with everything you two have said. "Power to them both" indeed for maintaining such a strong relationship for so long in such times. It is something which is to be greatly admired and aspired to and like you Claudia, Alan's loyalty/dedication to his relationship with Rima is one of the aspects for which I repect him the most - equally as much as his talent as an actor. May they be together always. As Kathy says, "if you admire a man, you also want him to be happy and fufilled" -once again, I agree with you completely! :) Claudia, that YCTV interview really is a gem, once adain, I agree completely. It really gives him a chance to display the amazing sweetness, generosity, patience, and humour in his nature. He did seem genuinely interested in everything that was said and shown to him during the interview. And like you said a great display of his good-natured patience shone through - even when he was trying to ask those young boys serious questions about their future aspirations and they just kept changing the subject back to Harry Potter! He didn't even seem annoyed when the interviwer got the name of "The Winter Guest" wrong - how could she?? Just corrected her and smiled it off - wonderful. Was that really the "Rickmanista review" website they were showing him, I always wondered what is was - thanks for clearing that up :) It is a great site, and he again did seem genuinely interested, if a little amused at the stuff on it - "seduction menu" etc. Now I have a question for you Claudia and indeed everyone else, do you prefer AR in villain roles or as goodnatured, tender characters such as "Jamie" and "Colonel Brandon"? As much as I love the way he plays villians, I still think I'm with the second (the "goodies"). I just adore seeing him play out that side of his nature. There is just such an incredible sense of subtlety and sensitivity and understanding about his performances in these roles which really stands him apart from other actors. You can see how much thought is behind them. Having said that though, Rasputin was one of the most breath-takingly amazing performances I've ever seen and he was I guess a "villain" in that! What does everyone else think? You don't have to answer that if you don't wish, as I know it's a near impossible decision to make! Thanks Claudia also for clearing up the mystery of the other "Claudia" - the one that is responsible for flights of fancy is indeed the one I was referring to - I agree there are certainly a lot of you around! :) I thought it was the same Claudia running all these sites and wondered how on earth she had the time to keep it up! Thanks to Elaine for that Photobucket album - those Emmy pics - so many pics of those glorious hands! And such a strange (yet wonderful!) thing to see snape laughing - but don't you find that AR is always smiling/laughing in the behind the scenes clips of HP? Happy Birthday to Suzy Q - hope it's a great day! Ps. "He knew he was right" was on in England a while back - think it was during the winter season. It's a wonderful piece of drama which I highly reccommend. There is a slightly strange set-up where the characters talk directly to the camera at points but it does work quite well. Bill Nighy does a great job too - although his character is a bit of a slime-ball! Jo |

Comments: | Hmmm, sounds logical to me, Emily. I want "He Knew He Was Right" as well. I'm a huge Bill Nighy fan too. Nighy is hilarious. I love his *snicker snort snicker*. He does this in Blow Dry (I think) AND Love Actually as well as some of his other work. I'm curious to see if it his signature pops up in this period piece--I rather doubt it but time will tell, I'm sure. Kathy, what a sweet and generous offer! The long time relationship between AR and RH is one of the things that put me over the top in my Rickmania. The length they have carried on this unique type of relationship is pretty amazing this day and time. Of course today, anyone together for 30+ years is to be congratulated and admired, I think! Jo brought up the YCTV interview. That is a favorite of mine. He displays great patience with the students. Pamella asked some very good questions. For instance, she was able to get him to talk about how he feels about awards ceremonies, they examined the Rickmanista Review website together, and talked about stage work. We now know he does not retain his best lines from his films and we saw his patience as they toured the YVTC facility. I thought that interview was really great. Elaine has opened a PhotoBucket account in order to share her screen caps with us. She has done some really great caps from the Emmys plus there are a couple other albums you just might be interested in *grin*. These caps are far better than the ones I took. Hers are so much sharper and clearer. Kathy...please please please keep us posted about your son. If you don't feel comfortable doing it here, feel free to email me privately about it.
