Yes, Nicketynick. I send her an e-mail and she says it is all about Getty sueing people using their pictures. So, of course she does not want to take chances.

Quite worrying is the fact that she does not seem so sure she wants to reopen the site when she cannot make fun of everything she wants to. So get ready for some renewed begging, gals!

CatsPlay, thats really odd isnt it? someone using that same ID the day you posted it on your LJ? Maybe Claudia can tell by some of the posters here (in case it was someone that used to visist) and pinpoint it that way?
I feel so computer stupid and wouldnt even know how to go aboutanything like that if there is a way!
I love the name by the way and also CatsPlay.
I am currently reading a mystery series called The Cat who series that is excellent about  a couple of Siamese Cats Koko and Yum Yum and their owner (Jim Qwuilleran) in pursuit of the murderer..
I also for the first time finally watched Hitchiker and LOVED it-cant wait to watch it with my husband as we both love that kind of comedy. I also like the Galaxy quest parody on those conventions etc. I thought Hitchikers to a certain degree was a little like Monty python-crazy humor and a lot of fun.
Anyway, off to browse and to bed. Good luck CatsPlay on determining who the other poster is. Culd be a fluke but seems rather strange to me too.

On January 24 at my LiveJournal I posted that I had created the username 'Cat Lumet' within the software application called Second Life.  I find it very hard to fathom that another individual would come up with that same username independently.

Can you please clarify for me why you began posting here with that username on the same day that I mentioned it on my LiveJournal?

It certainly is not a name that two people would come up with coincidentally.

I'd be curious Bluebeat to know where you read or heard that statement from Ian McKellan. I think you are remembering it wrong. This is what Ian McKellan actually wrote, in its entirety, in his online diary from his official site:

ALAN RICKMAN

From: Rebecca

Q: Your and Alan Rickman's performance in Rasputin were brilliant. As I am studying Russia and the fall of the last Tsar and the involvement of Rasputin for my G.C.S.E in History I found it incredibly useful for revision. So thanks for helping me! Also I was wondering, is Alan Rickman as sexy in real life as he is on screen?

A: Much of Rasputin was filmed close to the locations of the actual events so I'm not surprised that the film proved relevant to your studies. Also, yes.

Hi,
I probably would n't subscribe to discussions on Alan's sexuality...that is his affair...but felt I had to mention that I am sure Ian Mckellan said some time ago that Alan was definitely not gay! and along the lines of ....'If only he was!' and saying something like'What a beautiful man'.
The man's got taste.
Personally, I think Alan has quite an eye for the ladies...very charismatic....either that, or he's a BLOODY GOOD ACTOR! which, of course, he is !

I think I'm with Puddingdale on this one.  As she stated, it could be that there are different ways of viewing fandom or being fans.  Personally, if I'm attracted to someone, I'm attracted to them, whether gay, straight, bi-, tri-, metro-, retro-, uber-, or anti-sexual.   It's whatever they've got going on - charisma, looks, talent - that gets me.

I'd say that three of the five fandoms I am in have nothing to do with sexual attraction, because I don't find the artists attractive, but I love, love, love their work.  I take part in fandom more for the friendship and interaction than the fantasy.

Mrs.Doyle'sCat mentioned the late, great Freddie M.  He and Queen have a huge fandom.  So does Morrissey, former lead singer of the Smiths.  One openly gay, one of questionable sexuality.  (Adore them both.)  Also Alan Cumming, George Michael, Neil Tennant, and there's something so appealing about Stephen Fry, too.  Not to mention John Barrowman of Torchwood.  Talk about a massive fandom, that guy's way popular, and mostly with women.  What a cutie!

I agree Pudd, I adored Freddie Mercury and have always been a huge fan of Elton John so I don't think I have any trouble with being in a  straight/gay "fandom" or not.
Puddingdale

Comments:

Well, I don't agree with Nahima. As I said before: It would not make a difference to me if AR was gay. He would still be as talented and attractive. And I would still collect all his movies.

And the distinction between fans and fandom: What about Elton John e.g.? Not particularly attractive plus gay - but still I would say he has a fandom, right?

But I guess we simply have different opinions here and maybe our ways of being fans are different too. Variatio delectat!

Alfan, sweetie, this was the funny part of it that Clyde thinks it's worse to hit a cop than to kill someone imo: Alex killed the drunk driver who killed his son and hit the cop who presumably arrested him then)

I assume that the whole thingy around Alex's son happened in England - surely it was not Clyde he hit - the latter is only terribly jealous (how right he is, hmmm, huhu)

SPOILER ALERT FOR SNOWCAKE

Hikity, actually i knew that he went to prison for hitting the guy who killed his son but was that the cop he punched that Clyde and Maggie talk about?

(Maggie in the end when he is saying goodbye says that Clyde is just upset because he hit a cop), this is probably not a deleted scene but i think that it was the guy who killed his son, the drunk driver was a cop.

I absolutly loved the movie by the way, i love it.

Nahima

Comments:
That's the one, Nicketynick, thanks!

Of course Hikity (Hi there!), I believe 'Lawrence of Arabia' was his first big work, at least the one that put him in the eye of the public here in America. José Ferrer had a role in that one too, he was the first puerto rican actor that won an 'Oscar' ever.

Regarding the gay thingy, just to add my two cents...

IMHO
, this is a complex issue in which is hard to tell things as simple as 'black' or 'white'.  Each person is unique and has its own background/environment (cultural, religious, social, even political) that influences greatly on any decision taken.  We, as a society, may declare our openmindness in many topics but, related with the sexual area, we are still in diapers.
Surely, this may vary from country to country, I am talking only from what I know of my part of the world.  Here are pubs for gays and pubs for 'general public', you can enter any of them at your own choice but I still wonder what is the need of such distinction.  And undoubtedly, gay people are the target of many jokes, offensive remarks and discrimination, even by the so-called openminded, it would be hypocrital to deny it.  In many, many films the gay character is used as the laughing resource within the plot. And talking about films, look at Rupert Everett, a fine good looking man and a good actor too, as far as I can recall he had played mostly gay characters.  Except for 'An ideal husband' and for 'Princess Daisy', the rest of his known roles have been gay characters and I hardly believe this is due to his own choice.

Does the sexual orientation of an actor influence/affect its fandom or lack of?
Yes, I think so.  And in this I have to clarify that for me there's a difference between 'fans' and 'fandom'.  Every artist has its own fans, as a saying states, there's always a hammer for every nail, but just a few have a 'fandom' = legions of relentless fans all over the world (I used 'relentless' because remembered we were called like that some time ago, by some 'Beanies'. Or were the 'Bloomies'?)

For example, I like Rupert Everett's acting, also Sir Ian McKellen's, but they do not attract me as much as Alan Rickman (actually, none other actor does) and, as excellent as AR is, those others are good too. Then why?
Well, I've pondered this and, to be totally honest, it is related with the straight/gay difference. One may say that it's clear and fully accepted there won't ever be the slightest chance of having a chance with the OooA (sorry for the 'chance' repetition, do not know how to say this other way), but to believe him straight is essential to our fandom.
(Be clear that I'm not saying he is gay, it's just an example to express my opinion.)
Once again, one may be a fan of somebody, but to be part of a fandom requires *something* else and it is related with the sexual attraction and the *possibilities*. It'll be difficult for a woman to have  *possibilities* concerning a gay man, he may capture one's attention for awhile but won't last because even the most creative mind has its limits.

Sorry one more time, I can't manage to write short.

I WAS aware of rumors, you can hardly say ONE Alan fan website that I'm not aware of, a film, a character, and I dare to say an old photo.

It's different when someone is a friend, come back from England and "affirms" such a thing.

I just would like to check out with european friends from here.

And YES, he has really no reason to hide (if he were) that he's gay.

And if that were true I wouldn't mind, I'd just be very upset 'cause it'd be a hell of a "lost" to women worldwide.

No, Alfan, luv, he "killed" the guy who killed his son and had to go to prison. After having served his sentence he believes he should fly over to Canada to meet his former lover, his son's mother. This constitutes the previous history which is - of course - intertwined with the main story

@Peter O'Toole: well, you all forgot the most intriguing of all his films: Laurence of Arabia - although it is many many years later that we lived in Khartoum - the surroundings and the people looked the same - I love this film to pieces

and then the wonderful, hilarious How to steal a million with the wonderful Audrey Hepburn...

SPOILER  ALERT FOR THE SYNOPSIS OF SNOW CAKE

When Clyde (the RCMP officer) tells Maggie that Alex he just got out of prison, killed someone and  that he hit a cop,,,,,,when did that happen. Was it in the past when he first went to jail or is it in this movie and is one of the deleted scenes. ( there is a couple missing scenes that i recall, the hottub scene and the McDonalds scene, along with the Clyde telling Alex to get out of town scene), did it happen then? Does anyone know, its not killing me or anything but just curious.

I can't say that I don't care if Alan is gay. Personally I would cry into my pillow if it were discovered that he really were!!! But that's just me. I really don't think he is. Mostly because it is such a non-issue for performers to come out any more. Being gay isn't much of a hinderance in the acting world, I can't see any reason why he would hide it. And knowing his political and moral views (well, just what I've read), I have a hard time believing he would even bother to hide it if he was. Nah, not gay. Just British!

Yes my Dear, the speculation of our

favorite actors' lives can be just insane.

But Peter O'Toole. Hhhmmmm. He's a much

older man, but he's still has that charm. And

if only I were born earlier! Wow! However, what

I find attractive is something more than age.

Anyroad, just look at our dear Alan! He's 60 yrs old

Count me in as an admirer of Peter O'Toole.  He was absolutely brilliant in "Casanova," as was David Tennant (current Dr. Who).  And, though it's cheesy, I love "Goodbye Mr. Chips."  Used to watch that with my mom when I was growing up.

On the question of a certain bloke's romantic preference(s), I always find it odd that people want to speculate or why it matters.  Curiosity about if he's involved with someone, I get that.  We were all new fans once upon a time, it comes up.  What I find even more bizarre is that some folks seem to threaten to go off him when the possibility of him being gay is even mentioned, as if they somehow had a chance?

I can't see him hiding something like that anyway.

Peter Sellers is another of my favorites!

That man could almost anything. I'm sad

Peter Sellers, Maggie Smith, and Truman Capote!

Hilarious!

Hey, count me in at the Peter O'Toole's club!
Is it not amazing how much alike are our preferences/tastes?

I remember him firstly from 'Massada', watched it on a tv channel long time ago, it's a film about the war between romans and jewish that lead to a mass suicide of the fortress' defenders when it was clear the romans were going to conquer the place. That was an excellent film, there was a latin american actress in it named Barbara Carrera (from Nicaragua?).

After that I was so impressed with the guy that search for other works of him. I've watched him in many films, at random order because can't remember the time sequence, such as: 'The lion in winter' with Katherine Hepburn, 'The night of the Generals' with Omar Shariff, '*something* Pussycat' with Peter Sellers and Woody Allen (this is an insane comedy and he was absolutely gorgeous in it) and many others.  The last work of his I've seen is 'Troy'.  He is such a wonderful actor!

Btw, I would have loved to see him as Dumbledore. I agree with you Alfan, Peter O'Toole would have performed the character showing more of the human qualities/emotions in it and not only as a figure of authority.

Sue, you broke the bloody ship one more time!

(Next door)

Chris, I'm with you in everything except the kidney bet thing. I won't take such a risk... you never know! Hey, and what about Jack Nicholson? He even played a werewolf once...
(You: "What kind of proof is this, Nahima?"
Me: "Eeer...hmm...weeell... have to interrogate the fleas.")

I read somewhere on the net, sorry can't

remember where exactly, that Peter O'Toole

was one of the original choices to replace his

long-time friend Richard Harris as Dumbledore.

Wouldn't that have been amazing?! Not that

Michael Gambon isn't great, he was a very good choice.

But Peter is a different ball game all together.

His purpose of being on Charlie Rose today was to

promote "Venus". Which isn't in the States, but I've

read that there maybe a possible Oscar nomination.

I've seen the trailer, and it looks absolutely charming.

I can't wait! The man is 75 yrs old, and still cute as a button!

Talking of Peter O'Toole, has anyone seen Venus yet?? I have loved him for years. I am sure I saw him once when I was in my teens. I was walking down Bond Street passed an outdoor bar/cafe (which were very rare in those days) and this guy in a dark suit was sitting outside with shades and smoking a cig in a holder. As I walked passed he just looked over his glasses as I passed and I am sure it was him!LOL

Oh, Pudd, Nicke and  Hikity , I second that on the is Alan gay thing,,,,,,well actually I gues thats more like i third that  on the Alan is gay thing.I love him no matter what he is or what he wears ( ok, i do question the fish/safety pin shirt) but thats it, well there is that wrinkled tan suit jacket he wears too , but really thats it. oh  wait and i forgot about the pink and blue shirt he wore once, but thats definitly it.  hee hee. just kidding guys,

Pudd-

This subject of Alan being gay:

Who gives a damn? I mean really.

I'd love him just the same. And it's

known that many of Alan's friends and

aquaintances are openly gay. So, even

if he was, I'm almost positive he'd be open about it.

This seems to be a big topic for Kevin Spacey as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Kevin said he likes to keep

everyone guessing. That way his characters are more believable.

Makes sense to me. Anywho- gay or not, we all love Alan.

And in some cases *cough* LUST after him.

Hell, I'd watch him brush his teeth. BTW- I just saw

Peter O'Toole this morning on Charlie Rose!

Absolutely love him! That's what I call a pair of Blue Eyes!

Now, about the clearly off topic gay question from next door...

Just a little thought for those who spread rumours:

If Alan was gay, why should he hide it? He is quite a political character, he surely would fight for gay rights, etc. No reason for him to stay in the closet. Some might think he would fear to lose his huge amount of female fans. But honestly, I think AR couldn't care less, if he was gay.

Next thought:

I couldn't care less about AR's preferences either. Whose business would that be anyway but Rima's? And she surely would not agree to be a fake partner. So, he is not gay - just a bit effeminate at times *lol*

Gosh, give the poor man and his sex life a rest

And to quote Nicky the puppet from Avenue Q (naughty musical, I told you Nicketynick):

IF YOU WERE GAY
THAT'D BE OKAY.
I MEAN 'CAUSE, HEY,
I'D LIKE YOU ANYWAY.
BECAUSE YOU SEE,
IF IT WERE ME,
I WOULD FEEL FREE
TO SAY THAT I WAS GAY
(BUT I'M NOT GAY.)

Btw. I read this joke on another board and I could resist posting it here:

There was this couple that had been married for 20 years.
Every time they made love the husband always insisted on
shutting off the lights. Well, after 20 years the wife felt this
was ridiculous. She figured she would break him of this crazy
habit.

So one night, while they were in the middle of a wild,
screaming, romantic session, she turned on the lights. She
looked down... and saw her husband was holding a
battery-operated pleasure device... a vibrator!
Soft, wonderful and larger than a "real one."

She went completely ballistic.

"You impotent bastard," she screamed at him, "How could
you be lying to me all of these years? You better explain yourself!"

The husband looks her straight in the eyes and says calmly:
"I'll explain the toy... and you explain the kids!"

------------

Have a nice day!

Well, Hikity, do not despair. Is teaching what you really want to do? Then go for it, no matter what.

Well, Hikity, I could have made it to the end of the show. But as people claimed the area was not the nicest to be at night and I had no idea whether I could get in without a ticket, I decided against going there. Imagining myself waiting in a Jack the Ripper-like area to merely see AR rushing by or not at all was not too tempting.

My, am I reasonable or not? Well, maybe I could have sat in the lobby with AR waiting for the film to end  But the trip from Hertford to London and back would have cost me 13 pounds - naaaaah. Next time AR better plan his Q&A's according to MY schedule. *lol*

I am thinking of "Johanna" especially, when he watches the young girl secretly and gets all - erm - attracted *cough*. It will be interesting to hear how AR delivers that. CatsPlay - you are fantastic. How did you manage that?

Here comes a serious suggestion: why don't you offer internet courses on a regularly basis? You are so skilled, it's incredible. If I have a problem you always solve it! And your Lj speaks for you anyway . Thanks for your help again!

Our tree looks much better in real life..much more glittering I'd say. Hubby and Tanja had the idea of putting a small part of Tanja's railroad train under the tree this year - this is a very old tradition, hihi.

Yes, I'm trying to quit smoking totally.

I'll admit, I've had a few, but not an entire

pack like usual. So, it's a step.

Hikity-Your tree is lovely! Planning my trip to

see Perfume soon! I can't wait! But I'm going

nuts waiting for Snowcake to surface.

Here's hoping!

Hey Nicki, what do are you telling us? That yu wanna stop smoking or wanna stop to smoke ? I have been smoking for ages - is there a chance to stop it then tell me...

About that weird lj-comment: we all have known our Man for such a long time that we can be 100% sure he never would go for any face-lifting...what a rubbish!

BTW, I luv him, especially when it comes to his nose, thud

Chris, Nicki, hangovers? Drink a good wine (life is to short to dring bad wine, ) and you won't experience any hangovers anymore - promise

I still have my X-mas tree in full decoration - the 6th of January is an important day too, didn't you know..I am going to light the candles now, huhuhuhu

NO SNOW VERY WARM HERE....

Hey kids-

The yummy stuff next door is

just too much!

Just thought I'd throw in a little

something off topic:

For anyone who may like them as much I as

I do, The Police are talking about a reunion tour

for 2007 ! Ah, a visit to the good old days!

Always loved them.

Alright my beloved droogs, Nicky needs a bit of

encouragement today. I'm making an attempt to

put down the ciggarrettes. This is NOT going to be

fun. I'm on my 2nd pot of coffee. Cross your fingers!

Pam, thanks for the heads-up on that site, it's a great place and I've known it since Jan was first working on it but I've lost the link repeatedly and couldn't remember its name.
Nicky- So happy Perfume's getting released there. And the Irish pub is just the cherry on top!
Oh and what was the picture you were referring to? The one that's currently on my desktop so that i can drool over it anytime I feel like it? Heh. Yeap. That's a great shot.
Carolyn, I know, I couldn't picture him as Langdon either although, like you I had absolutely no idea who would have been better. I somehow thought Gary Oldman resembled him a bit and I knew he could work out a great American accent but then I couldn't see Audrey Tatou as Sophie or Ian Mckellen as Sir Leigh Teabing either.

I'm putting this on the discussion board so that it's NOT discussed on the main page; and we honestly don't have to talk about it here either. (In fact, I'd prefer not to) However, that being said, I think we should all be aware of it:

Chris, yes, the "Davinci Code" was directed by Ron Howard.

We watched it here last week (just like Pam). I, too, read the negative reviews. IMHO, generally, if someone hasn't read the book, they will enjoy the movie. My son & daughter really liked it. I did read the book and while I liked the movie, it didn't seem to translate the general "feel" of the book. Admittedly, the book was extremely long, and similar to the making of OOTP, alot of what was in the book was either glossed over or eliminated completely. Another point, and again, it's only my opinion, while I really love Tom Hanks as an actor, I just couldn't see him in this particular role (LOL...not that I have absolutely any clue who else could have done the role!)

Anyway, my overall feeling (for what it's not worth!) is that it's

worth seeing!

Hey Chris-

Oh,yes.........

 DoofusI'm still feeling it.

Just can't hang in there like I used to.

However, I posted to Claudia next door

the good news! Perfume has made it to

GA! Grant you, it's not anywhere near me,

but I found a theater in a town not too far.

And they just happened to have a charming

little Irish pub near by............

Wink what to do,what to do

Really? I've only heard negative reviews concerning The DaVinci Code. Couldn't see it myself although I've been wanting to ever since its release. Huge Tom Hanks fan, me. Add a bit of Paul Bettany, Alfred Molina and Ian McKellen and you've got me hooked. I was curious about the directing too, who was it, Ron Howard? He good. Sadly I kept postponing it and never got to see it. I'll see if i can get my hands on the DVD though.
Yeah, we should probably skip pubbing for a while, ha, Nicky?

Pam, I LOVE The DaVinci Code too.  Then again, I am a big Tom Hanks fan too.  I really do like the plot though.

If only they could come up with a movie that starred Alan Rickman, Tom Hanks AND Harrison Ford, I would be in HEAVEN!!!

Hi all-hope everyone has recovered from the holidays and New Years!
It was a rather rainy day here on New Years so I took down the christmas tree/decorations and got them stored away. We then settled in to watch The Pirates of the Caribbean with johnny Depp (the second one-the sequel from last July) It was great and even better in my own home..
The DaVinci Code which we watched over Christmas was excellent too. Maybe it was because I read the book first and had some insight as to the different characters, plot etc.
It was also like Christmas today when I went to the church for my job. Someone had dropped off near a clothing bin some unwanted christmas gifts. (They only accept clothing in the bins, not toys, household etc.) Everything looked good so we took them in to bring for the spring yard sale. One of the items was a brand new Hamilton Beach Roaster/oven!!! I almost bought one before christmas..
I will of course donate some money to the church. There was also a brand new cute little childs sled that looked like it had silver runners on it with the bucket style seat for the child to ride in-adorable. A wioman that runs a daycare bought that one!!
You just never know what the day will bring sometimes!!
I just have to put a few more decorations away around the house and that should be it. In January, I leave up my snowpeople. I collect the Mitford series of snowmen and have them on tables etc. They look so cute for the month of January which is usually quite cold and snowy. This year it has been warm and in the 40's and 50's-we know a blizzard is way past due though--
Anyway-have a good one all and will check in again soon..
