Hello--hope it is okay if I poke my nose in here this once but when I see an opportunity to answer a question I always take it.  Alan and Vanessa Redgrave have appeared in at least one charity reading together (I'm thinking of the "Collateral Damage" readings in...2002?).  They were also kind-of-sort-of in a film together.  Vanessa was one of the stars in a David Hare film called Wetherby way back in 1985 and Alan's voice appears about 2/3 of the way through the film.  He is one of the "talking heads" on the show Vanessa's character is watching on tv.  It's real startling if you aren't prepared for it!

Yes, that was the plan, but this recent move to
another state has set me back once again. In  fact,
I should've been there already. But that's alright.
I know I'll make it one day soon. Just another obstacle
to overcome. I suppose we all have to sacrifice at one
time or another. So help me God, I WILL make to the Planet
Organic in Westbourne Grove, and pay my respects to the
"Nanner Shrine"!!!!!!
It's going to happen, I can feel it.......

Chalebh, have a wonderful, sunny trip!!

Nicki, aren't you going to London soon, too??

BritannyVanessa Redgrave is a famous British actress, who became a member of the Royal Shaekspeare Company in 1961. born in 1937 she is "a bit" older than Alan, but they surely know each other - no doubt about that.
I certainly adore her in "Mrs Dalloway" (Virginia Woolf)

Cerebral Hens,  weekend is coming, and it's springtime, and we have Easter holidays, juuuhuu.

Chalebh, thanks for the congrats.  You are going to ENGLAND! This is one of those AHHHHHH! moments.  like, screaming excitement. haha.  Have so much fun, and if you see ALAN give him my phone number. haha.  Is he in NYC at all right now, because I keep seeing people who look similar to him on the street, and I am really afraid that if I do actually see him, I wont know it is him!  I know he looks different than anybody else, but now I am starting to think I have gone into Obsessive AR mode again, thinking I see him everywhere.  Oh, and who is Vanessa Redgrave?  Does she have any connection to AR?

Hey everyone!

I wanted to tell all our Brit friends that I have your captured troops in my thoughts and prayers.  Seeing the images that are coming out are just heart breaking!

Oh and good friend of mine bumped into Vanessa Redgrave last week when she was in New York!  They were staying at the same hotel.  She said that VR is still just as lovely as she has ever been!

*hugs* to everyone!

Hello, long time no hear, but I don't think it necessary to post if there isn't anything interesting.

Congrats, Brittany. I know how hard it is to have a letter published, and with such a large newspaper it is even harder.

So my trip to London is fixed. I'll arrive April 17th and leave on the 26th.

Does anybody know if Alan will have a public appearance during that time?

And any suggestions of events I should miss? My schedule is filled but not completely full yet

A direct rip-off of Jay-Walking.  Jay Leno has been doing the same type of spoof-videos on his late night television show for years.  Of course, what you don't see is the people who do know the answers.  But, I will admit, it is frightening to watch the people who seem to be so ignorant of the world around them.

Jay Leno's has become so well known, that I often wonder if the people are deliberately giving the wrong answers just to get their face on t.v....especially the ones who are giggling and laughing as they answer or who's response is so ridiculous that you think they must be making it all up.  But, sadly, there are those that are truly real.  The saddest is when Jay asks them what they do for a living.  All too often the response is: teacher.

Thanks, Mrs. Doyle's Cat I do not mind what others decide to do with their bodies either (only if it is a beloved one), but in a public thing like a book it irritates me, because it might set a bad example.
Anyway, I liked the humour as well - even though I did not know most of the stars she mentioned. I read it on the train back from work and I could not help laughing out loud several times not minding those around me. I could identify with her special kind of "madness" as well - and the denial of it *lol* And I loved the ending (Why Depardieu though? *lol* Well, he's all right.)

MrsDoyle'sCat
3/14/07 at 01:49 PM

Comments:
I really enjoyed Madame Depardieu mainly because I am a film freak too and could identify with the regular falling in love with the leading man thing since childhood.
It's probably not such a good read for a non-Brit as she does allude to a lot of tv people too that the rest of the world may not have heard of.
I liked her sense of humour and whilst not sharing her views on drug use I have finally got to an age where I really don't mind what people want to do with their lives and bodies, it's up to them.

Hi everyone! Have just finished reading Antonia Quirke's book (Madame Depardieu and the Beautiful Strangers) and would be interested in other people's opinions. Has anyone else read it yet?
I thought it was quite good, although I regretted not being able to understand all the allusions to actors and movies I had not seen. Still, Quirke seems to be quite witty judging from the remarks on celebrities I knew. And she was quite flattering about Alan - in fact about almost every male in showbiz *lol* I did not like her approach towards drug abuse though.
Discussion, anyone?

It is preferred that you try to stick to AR related topics on the other board and not get too fan-girly (no excessive squeeing), not talk about AR's personal life or your own personal life, and not get too silly.    It's strictly for AR news, current/past projects, photos, future projects, personal appearances, etc.

If you want to get off-topic, share some news about yourself, question a rumor you once heard about AR, speculate, swoon and gush, or just get plain goofy, this is the place to do it and no one will *spank* you for it..........oops................I...er....*ahem*......uh...that is.....unless you want to get spanked *tee-hee*.

beverly, I quote Catsplay:

The drama archives of the New York City Public Library has a full-length professional copy of Private Lives which you can apply to see; the archive also has four devastating clips from LLD.

You have to physically go to the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts to watch it, it never leaves the premises.  It is the full Private Lives, and, as Susan said, four clips from Les Liaisons Dangereuses.  Both are high quality and professionally shot.

Brittany, imho, it's a wonderful, lovely, beautiful "normal" photo of Severus Rickman, lolor was it Alan Snape?

Okay...I would like to throw some into the Snape discussion.  I would die if he doesnt do the rest of the films, even though he is technically too old for the part.  The discussion made me start thiking about his costume...and I found some great replicas of it online that are close-up so you can see the details.  Anyway...while doing so I found the following picture from SS.

I have often thought about it when I see the film...is it just me or does he sort of look like Micheal Jackson?  Or just someone else?  It is sort of a creepy thought though. haha.

Having one for you! I have to admit,

Canadian beer is wonderful! The domestic

beer here in the states isn't very impressive.

I've spoiled myself on imports. Guinness being my

first love, I also enjoy "taking a tour" of many other

imports. About 8 years ago, I spent a month in Ireland.

Needless to say, I spent an entire day at the St. James

Gate Brewery. I had an ear to ear grin all day.

It was pure heaven! I can still hear those angelic voices!

Hhhmm, I think I hear them calling me now! It must be a sign!

Hey Hikity and Peek-

I almost forgot you two lovely gals!

The first round is on me!

This may or may not be a funny story, but here goes:

The other evening as I was sitting at this pub, I was just

about to call it a night, then the bartender comes over with a pint and says:"From a secret admirer". So, I looked around

and there almost no one there. Then I looked at the other end

of the bar and a woman winked and raised her glass toward me!

LOL I truly didn't know what to make of it! What does one do in

circumstances like that? Do I accept the drink? Do I decline at

the risk of insulting her? Usually,(not all the time of course)

when a man tries to buy you a drink, there's an agenda behind it. But this is slightly different. I can't help but snicker about it.

I guess I'm just irresistable! (*snort*, only kidding, I'm less than

the girl next door)

I LOVE Emma Thompson. I was just reading up on her and found this fairly recent quote about Prof Trelawny in the new HP film. She slays me. Wouldn't she be the best to go have lunch with??

"I have a nervous breakdown in the film and in one scene I get to stand at the top of the stairs waving an empty sherry bottle which is, of course, a typical scene from my daily life, so isn't much of a stretch." -- on her role in the Harry Potter film.

I thought I had read about a release date somewhere.  Thanks for confirming that.  Yes, that does seem like a quick turn around time for HBP.  Just as long as they don't rush it just to get it complete or to keep someone under contract at the expense of a good film.  That would be a shame.
