The Cure - Pictures of You.

I've been looking so long at these pictures of you

That i almost believe that they're real

I've been living so long with my pictures of you

That i almost believe that the pictures are

All i can feel

Laura~ Nice pic, i recall there's the unwatermarked of it somewhere on the main GB.

Marlina, no I have not heard that song but I am on my way to download it right now...............and Oh My Gosh,,,,,Young Frankenstien.

Frankenstien:: " Tell me where you got that brain?"

Igor:::" uh, someone called Abby!"

Frankenstien:: " Abby, Abby, Abby who?

Igor:: " Oh, let me see, Abby, Abby Normal, thats it, Abby Normal"

I forgot that was from Mel Brooks.........what a sense of humor. And I do like the way that Roger Rees  portrayed the sherriff, he did it his own and tried not to copy Alan......as everyone knows anyways that Alan is one of a kind.

Whoo, Men in Tights! I love Mel Brooks, he's my hero, even if he has his ups and downs. I saw The Producers on Bway back when it still had Nathan Lane (<3) and Matthew Broderick and it was awesome. Everyone should see Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, High Anxiety, and History of the World if you liked Men in Tights

Both sherrif (oh man, it feels weird to write that, shouldn't be sherrive, haha French) have their shirts open but the Sheriff in Men in Tights has a really hairy chest while AR doesn't. Otherwise, they're pretty similar. Heck, they could've used AR's performance in Robin Hood for Men in Tights, since it was campy enough

Alfan, which song was it then?

Okay, I did my Uni homework, washed all of my clothes for the festival coming week and even already packed some things for said festival. Isn't that sad?

Well... at least my little sis who's visiting me at the moment is awake now and I can watch some TV with her now.

But I'll have a look in here from time to time anyway.

i know how you feel Jule, its depressing here too. It has been raining for three days strait and going to rain for two more. Last night i was listening to " Back in the 80's" fand a song came on that was so familiar and i could not  place it, and it was bugging me and bugging me and bugging me. So this morning i couldnt sleep ( up at 0238) and i plugged in Robin Hood: Men in Tights ( thanks, for the reminders of how funny it is guys, i had to watch it) and then I plugged in Judas Kiss and BAM, WHALLAAAh, the song i knew.It is when JR and Coco are caught in the store that she was going to rob and they got drunk, stoned and they "boinked like bunnies" ( thats not what Coco says but i dont want to swear) and they dance to a song, and that was it. Then i was able to sleep.........funny how things happen like that.

Because, unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent.

My whole name is Will Scarlet O'Hara. We're from Georgia.

ROFL hat`s all I can think of now but the movie is brilliant!

And Patrick Stewart`s appearence at the end! LOL

Actually Hikity, its a Mel Brooks parody of Robin Hood. Its called Men in Tights, and it is funnier than hell. I mean i literally peed my pants the first time i saw it I laughed so hard. It stars Cary Elwes and Richard Lewis, and Roger Rees as the Sherriff ( Rebecca Howe's first boss, the English guy on Cheers). Let me give you a little dialogue.

King Richard......" Latrine, thats a interesting name you have there"

Latrine--" yah, we changed it in the 16th Centruy"

King Richard --" you meeaaan, you changed it to Latrine?"

Latrine--" yah, it use to be Shithouse"

I am serious, if you can rent it sometime, do as it is the funniest movie i have ever seen,,,,,,love it.

Dee,

Certainly that was Rima, I think there's no doubt.

I've come to the mindset that photographs, in all honesty, can really misrepresent the actual situation.  I've seriously decided that lighting, angle, all kinds of different factors can make that 'split second in time' seem different that what the actual reality looks like in person.  I know that sounds absolutely crazy, but having now seen AR in person, and then seeing the photographs days before, that day, and immediately after, I can only conclude that you cannot really depend upon a photograph.

Honestly, I think his hair probably is and has been the same color all along, and that different photos in different settings appear differently.  As far as Susan's descriptions, I guess everyone interprets things differently.

Again, I know that sounds crazy but that's my opinion.

Dee
5/25/06 at 08:01 PM

Comments:
I know the GB doesn't like us to discuss Alan's appearance (no matter how edible he looks *biting lip*), so I thought I'd bring my thoughts about the most recent photos in here.

Claudia - are we sure that was Rima with him? Didn't Susan report just report that Rima's hair wasn't red anymore? Did I miss a clear pix of her face?

I noticed that his white shirt was buttoned up much higher in these photos than at the MNiRC Q&A. Darn! No lovely peeks of skin!

Does anyone have a guess about the return of the panda hair? That does not look like any trick of light to me -- not camera flash, strange theater lighting, or sunshine. When we saw him on April 28, it was a lovely, even, over-all sandy color. Then, a couple weeks ago, Susan reported it most white.

Hope this doesn't sound like I'm insulting Alan! He ALWAYS looks handsome! I'm just rabidly curious, that's all!

Alfan - When I was looking for a hard-to-find video (January Man), I stopped into my local Barnes & Noble Book Store and even thought it wasn't on the shelf they special ordered it for me. It took two days and cost $9.00. Not positive this will work for you, but it's worth a try. I'd guess any major book store (or perhaps even a major video store like Blockbusters) could do it - if the movie is still available.

I won't even ask WHY you want Men in Tights...*snort*

Dee, Either you didn't leave your e-mail or I'm totally losing it (which is entirely possible), so I'm taking the liberty of posting the recipe here. These are really dense, moist, rich and chocolatey. Even I can't eat more than two or three at one sitting. Good luck!

-Preheat oven to 350ºF/175º
-Melt 200-400 gr. bittersweet chocolate (I recommend 400 gr.)
-Cream 100 gr. butter with 2/3 cup of sugar
-Beat in 2 eggs, one at a time, then beat in the cooled chocolate
-Sift 1/2 cup of flour, 1/2 tspoon salt, 1/2 tspoon baking powder into mixture.
-Combine well 10-15 seconds.
-Add 1 tspoon vanilla.
-Decorate with pecan or walnut halvess (optional)
-Bake in buttered and floured tin 30-35 minutes.

Mrs Slope, that would be cheaper and ?? Are you on your way? Take the Tube to Embankment....

Dee, I wonder: I always thought that Brownies are a typical American kind of cake. Never have seen them in England...huhu, I must be blind.

I found this one:Double Chocolate Brownie Recipe

This brownie recipe is made with chocolate and chocolate chips, along with pecans or walnuts, if you want.

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, sift before measuring
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts, always an option

Directions for this brownie recipe.
Cream together butter and sugar until fluffy. Add vanilla and syrup and continue beating. Beat in eggs and cooled chocolate. Into a separate bowl, sift dry ingredients. Stir dry ingredients into the batter. Fold in chocolate chips and pecans. Spread brownie mixture into a greased and floured 9-inch square baking pan; bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes. Cut brownies into bars.

Laura, thank you soooooooooooooooooooooooo much!!!!

Mwaaaaaaaahh!! Would you believe the hat is already at GBP 870 !?!?!?!?!?! I cannot believe my eyes!!!!

I mean ok, yes, it's for a good cause and if you're a millionaire allright. But for a "normal person" I'm just stunned. It's still just a cheap unworn promotion hat that never even touched the wise (and highly erotic) thinker's brow of AR... Would it be the bowler hat of Obadiah Slope - ok... Would it be the adorable vulture hat from HP - Ok... that's priceless *lol* But in this case, rather than the old dusty Love Actually hat, for the GBP 870 I'd rather get myself a bunch of organic bananas, a ticket and a hotel room to fly over to the Q&A session tomorrow night. Am I bad now??

What beautiful flowers NAHIMA  (I got it right!) & Lenny! Thank you.

I made some of those scones, Lex & had them with my Twining's Earl Grey tea - delicious. The scones seem like baking soda biscuits - about like Bisquick's but I'm not sure about the proportions.

Well, it's mother's day and believe it or not I went out....and had another great day in the theatre - another fantastic performance this time with great German actors and actresses - a modern version of Taming of the Shrewd and we nearly rolled over the floor laughing.

Vicki, I am sorry, obviously I had too much of white wine when I posted... the aspargus has to be peeled before cooking...

Marina, I hope I could sufficiently answer your two requests,

Chris, please accept my apologies for not informing you in due time about our excessive drinking! I herewith promise to do so in the future...

Dee, I think Sue's recipe is wonderful and you managed to surprise your family with an authentic British mother's day. What did you cook??? Steak and mushroom pie...BTW, I didn't get a satisfied answer from my friend about the other recipe you asked for (I forgot what it was, sorry), she wrote that you would best find one on the internet...hmmm, I prefer those from experienced housewives!

Nahima, thank you for the beautiful flowers Flowers And A Giftto all mothers

Dee,
allow me to pass one of my recipes.

Pre-heat oven to 220` (190`Cfor a fan oven)
For 8 scones you'll need

2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. butter
(and if you like add buttermilk)

Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add butter. Combine with your fingers, until coarse crumbs form.
Add buttermilk.
Quickly stir to form dough.
Roll the dough onto a lightly floured surface to approx. 1 cm thickness, cut into 8 scones using a 7cm cutter
or base of a mug and place onto a lightly greased baking tray.
Brush the tops of the scones with milk or beaten egg to glaye.
Leave to rise for 5 mins at room temp.
Bake in the centre of the oven for 10-12 mins until they're golden brown.

Is properly served with Earl Grey tea, of course!

For a different flavour you could try adding 25g grated cheese or dried fruit.

This is not directly related to AR, so I'm posting it here. I've stumbled upon an mp3 of Billy Bragg's 'The Story of Rachel Corrie (live)'. It's from a gig he did in Somerville, MA in March of this year. In the intro and the song he talks about the play and how it was cancelled in NY and how everyone should go see it. Just a warning...no mention of AR. I can e-mail it, but it's a big (10 mb) file. Here's the link where I downloaded it, if anyone is interested.

http://www.itismusic.org/artist/19.html

Warning #2...for those of you who don't know Billy Bragg, his music is powerful, but politically motivated and, therefore, very controversial.

Dear Catsplay, as I have had no time to go into this how-to-create-your-own-lj-and post-on-others business I just drop a message here and hope you don't mind my quoting you:  I perfectly follow your train of thoughts in your conclusion as I experiences similar effects - the gradual blurring of his features being one of them. Thanks so much again for your incredibly long, detailed and delightful report (sooo many characters...) and you are right about :

"The moments that pop back into your mind when you least expect them, and make you smile"

These are the moments -at least for me-which make life so wonderful, which make me look at things in a positive way or even (my creation) "pull myself out of the bog" if something went completely astray.

And I am as CONVINCED as you about the inspiration: Believe and Achieve! Surely, it wasn’t just luck that put me and Alan Rickman on the same street in London shortly before midnight...

However, your family will be very happy "to have you back" now, those who give us the best moments in lifea

Hikity, you've made me get the "green flu" that has affected Chris and Sue
already... meeting AR, talking to KS, flirting with Greg Wise... What's next?!?!?

Peekabooh, I do think AR is well casted for that role in "TVG" movie.
Even though the only physical thing he may have in common with the character, IMO, is Teh Voice but anyway he will do an excellent performance as always.

About those photos taken by Tschopper... OMG, it's so embarrasingly funny!!
Okay, when I saw the bigger one (before the guy shared them with Cats) I truly thought it was an interview on the street!!!
Really!! There is something in the back of the van, like a hole or a circle (must be the lock, I guess) but I took it as the microphone the "reporter" was using to speak with AR!!!   Hahahahahahaha!!!

Catsplay:  I asked my room mate this weekend if she was going to resign the lease with me, but she wants to move on.  So, I freaked out, because with the job I have at the moment, I really can't afford to live anywhere by myself, but I thought I didn't have enough money saved up to move (I had originially wanted to get out Pittsburgh after the All Star Game).  I sent out a couple feeler messages and got one back from a friend who is moving to Chicago in the fall, and she said she's be delighted if I came with her!  So, there is a possibility that I'll be moving to Chi-town in the fall, but finger's crossed that everything works out.  I don't have a lot of money, but my mom has offered to help, and if my show (which opens in July) runs for another month or two, it'll make things that much easier!  So, that's the long answer.  The short answer is "possitive thinking"

I'm sorry, but since he may be a professional photographer, I thought it only fair to explain that to him.  I am waiting to hear back from him.  From the tone of his first message, though, I'm speculating this won't be a problem.

A couple OT questions:
Who has the site for discussing the Villa book? I can't remember...sorry!

Does anyone have a recipe for the type of brownies that I ate almost every day in London? *blushes* They were available in several of the French pastry shops, the National Gallery Cafe and a few tea shops. Fabulous! They are much more fudgy, dense, moist and flatter then American brownies (which are more cake-like). I'm having withdrawn symptoms! PLEASE!!!

I am sooo sorry, dear Chris, didn't want to make you GREEN with envy . I have to concentrate onmy studies now - therefore I don't "waist" the rest of Sunday driving to the town called Recklinghausen (about 3 quaters of an hour drive)

Hikity, is this your newest mission, trying to make me green with envy by mentioning this great weather you`re enjoying in sunny Haan?!?! Cause it`s working! See, that`s me, green to the bone -->

Just kidding. ALTHOUGH  the wind DID crack one of my balcony windows the day before yesterday. My Mother, of course, took it as a sign I should move in with her again.  She actually believes the house to be haunted by the ghost of a 93 year old man in a wheel chair who murdered his entire family ages ago.  Next thing you know I`ll have to stop driving because I had a flat tire outside a cemetery.

Hey, that Can`t-Pronounce-Its-Name-Festival sounds really interesting! Might I just add that`s not a bad ideea you got there! LOL

These plates really look odd...maybe my French friend will know

Nahima, thanks anyway for these explanations! Your tamal(e) sounds "lecker"

Sue and Nahima, we have a huge festival in Recklinghausen this year with a lot of Shakespeare performances because of his worldwide acknowledgement (490 years, I think). Old Vic and the theatre of Recklinghausen worked on this project for 1.5 years!! The outcome is just stunning, amazing, I can't put it in words - wow. It was performed twice yesterday (and today as well, hmmmm) and I had a ticket for the early afternoon. Well, the theatre is situated in a park, white tents, bistros around it, people had their first glas of champagne outside on the terrace in the sunshine (dream weather here, absolutely dream weather, Chris!) before, and the next one and food after the performance. I talked completely alone to some of the actors and esp. to "Isabel", RII's wife, who said that the audience was amazing. Yeah, in London people rush out of the theatre after applauding quickly in order to get a beer before the pub closes. Really annoying imho (sorry). Yesterday we wouldn't let them go off the stage. 1000 people were whistling, screaming, applauding as loudly as possible -  they had standing ovations - incredible!!!

Then outside the actors had some food or sth to drink among the people. We were only three who approached Kevin Spacey (no, we did not disturb him, he had no food). Compared to last Friday (I have learnt a lot from that evening, ladies!) I was very cooool, . I talked in normal sentences, got answers and an autograph. About 10 minutes later I turned my head while talking with a nice woman when I saw Greg Wise approaching us. He looked at me, grinning and I was jumping. He then jumped towards us too and we laughed heartily. It went on like that - he has German roots and speaks German well, but I spoke English with him of course. He wanted to know our names, wrote some German words into our booklets and signed it. I hope the photo turns out well, but I was in such a high mood that I am sure about it...GW is a very good looking man (slim, about 1.76 m, black hair with grey in it, warm brown very friendly-looking, smiling eyes, outgoing, funny - definitely a nice man. Now comes the CKMM!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't remember why I remembered him - sounds stupid I know - and in the evening I first googled him, KMheavilyM, thought of Teh book I already had forgotten to take with me to England (S&S screenplay and ET's diaries), phoned Peek, who told me that he is ET's hubby - ohhhhhhhhh, another KMheavilyM. For my defence I have to say that he as well as other actors were not announced in the booklet I received 2 months ago! I am still considering to drive up to Recklinghausen later today between the two performances to ask him to sign the book, take it with him back to England, ask his wonderful wife to sign and maybe her best friend, too....I  am joking, but somehow this idea had planted in my stupid head last night.

That was a lot of OT - hope you don't mind...

Yes Jan, it's the same thing, tamal = tamale. If you add an "s" at the end of tamale then it's the plural form of the word (tamales).

Of course, this food thingy was plain rubbish, leave it to me to pay attention to such things!! LOL!!

Jan, run to your e-mail NOW!  (Sorry for the scream... but hurry up!!)

Nahima: It looks like a tamal is the same thing as a tamale. Yes? The closest thing I can think of in French food is a crepe - but I've never seen one that looked yellow or was so wide.

Somehow, I think when we're watching the movie we won't even notice the food! Well, maybe the 20th time on DVD . . .

Hikity! You little two (make that three!) timer!!

I have just come up here having watched Kevin in American Beauty on tv. I love that film. I am so envious that you got to see Richard II. If you recall I had a ticket to see it and  then got sick.

Greg Wise too huh? I saw him at the Love Actually premiere and have to admit that he is a handsome guy.

Well, I know, "a deflated crab" was not the best of descriptions!

Hikity, your
"Kartoffelpuffer" sounds more complicated than what it really is! Hey, are you still in London or what?
Kevin Spacey is a very talented actor, pity I've seen him only in "Seven".

"Tamal" samples:

I used the word "tamal", from Mexico and other Latin America countries, rather than "pastel" (the name we gave to that in PR) because in those other places that kind of food is made with corn, very alike to the picture as MrsDoylesCat noticed too. Here we use other ingredients (yucca, "yautía", etc.)

It's a "masa" (don't know how to say this in english) filled with chicken or meat, it is wrapped with corn leaves too or the green leaves from the banana plants.

Jan, I don't have a single clue about the french food in the 18th century either, as a matter of fact I don't know about french food at all...

That's why I found interesting to inquiry about those plates.
I suppose the filmmakers must have done a research in all matters...
Or am I expecting/demanding too much for a few scenes?

The green thing seems to be green beans (smashed? yack!).
And the brown part, a piece of meat? I'm talking about the things that are with the faked tamal.

Oh, forget this nonsense...

At least, AR's wig looks much better than in prior pictures!!

Well, Nahima, I don't know what that stuff is, but some of it sure doesn't look very appetizing.  I tried magnifying it but that didn't help - it just looks like a pixelated deflated crab! What did they eat in 18th century France, I wonder?

Possible VG spoiler: I don't know if there's a "real" connection here or not. But, there are a lot of smart researchers on the GB, so if there's anything good I'm sure they will be able to sniff it out! I just finished The Villa Golitsyn and noticed that's Willy's (AR's) big hero was Alexander Herzen. That name rang a bell for some reason, so I went thru my archives...

Herzen, 'the first self-proclaimed socialist in Russian history', lived in Orsett Terrace in Paddington (London) from 1860-63. The house still stands and I believe Paddington is near Alan's neighborhood.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Article/0,4273,4425961,00.html

In 2002, Trevor Nunn directed a trilogy of plays about Herzen by
Tom Stoppard called The Coast of Utopia at the National's Olivier Theatre (London's West End). Nunn has directed Alan in plays, including Anythony & Cleopatra.

Supposedly, the play will make it's US debut this fall:

Forgive me if this is stretching coincidence too far to be a connection.

Chris:  I am talking about a new novel   The thing is, now that Showmance is ready to submit to agents, I have a lot of waiting around ahead of me while I pray for someone to get back to me!  So, I figured that I might as well pass the time by starting on my next project.  And yes...several of them have AR inspired characters

Claudia: Thanks for your vote!  I'm kind of partial to Ghost Story myself, because the character of Lawrence is way too fun writing for.  Oh!  And I adore the British Whose Line too!  Keep watching, there's a great episode with Eddie Izzard (I think I have it on tape somewhere...) And Stephen Fry actually did several episodes!  I think that Robin Williams might have even done one...or was that the American version?  I get them mixed up because they use a lot of the same people

Have a lovely day everyone!

Welcome aboard noodle185!  If you will upload your video to YouSendIt and send me the link, I will be glad to take a look at it and add it to the site.  But I have to warn you, it may be a while before I can update the site due to real life.  In the interim, you may want to consider putting your video on YouTube until I can get it on the site.

Congrats WhoGirl17 on completely your first novel!  I've voted for the next idea on your blog.  My favorite is Ghost Story

BBC-A has been airing "Whose line is it anyway?"  The American version was cute for a while but I soon bored with it.  So when I saw it on BBC-A, I just surfed right past it until this weekend and I realized they have British celebs on the show.    Anyway, I saw Stephen Fry, Caroline Quentin, and Dame Josie Lawrence over the weekend and they were hilarious.
