Thanks for the "splaination", AFNH.

I can officially report that votes from multiple computers on the same Internet connection does work.  So those of you with a lappie and a desktop that share a connection..go for it!  LOL

Hi pH and welcome aboard!  Since you've been around for a while, there's no need for me to tell you what a great group we have here.  I hope you will stick with us and post whenever you can.  And keep voting!!!

Ouch!  Those are pricey cookies!  But they look delicious.  Thanks for the link, Ali-Pat.  Don't know if I'll ever use it but ya just never know.  BTW, can I ask whose picture was on your cookies?

AFNH, I'm curious too.

Also have another question about the voting.  Does anyone know if multiple computers on the same Internet connection will count?

Susan (and all you other lucky folks!) -- Have a wonderful time!! Bring back a moment-by-moment report!!

Ali-Pat -- I'm glad that you're up & about again! You must be on the mend. Maybe it was those cookies! Hmmm...was the sender your sweetie?

Voting -- I was #1034, and our man is WAY ahead of the others! Wonder what everyone will say when AR pulls out another big win!

I set the interval to 16 minutes (we can vote every 15 minutes, but I give 1 minute extra). And duration - it depends! If I leave the computer to work overnight - then - some 8 hours,  if I go to work and want my home computer to go on voting - then about 12 hours....
But  I am at computer - I prefer to vote manually and then remove the schdule.  (So that the macros don't interfere with work, besides I am so curious to see myself how the points rise

The Mac Maven says Macs need different software, and the only program he could find was $100.00.  I will see if he's come up with anything else on Monday.

Meanwhile, Claudia,  could you make a link to the poll on Suzanne's GB?  My attempt was a complete failure...

And is it really true that we can vote from every browser every fifteen minutes?  Mercy--a lot of browser downloading will be going on.

This all makes it hard to leave for the airport and SFGJ, but I'll try to suffer through it!

CLaudia:  with pleasure

So, you open the programm (click on its icon in the tray), choose "Settings" - "Options" - "Hot Key to start a recording" (here you can set your own, or just look up what is by default).
Next, open the browser window, press these keys, and record the macro (press keys, or move and click the mouse, as you like). When finished press Ctrl+Break to stop.
Then you can assign the name to your macro, and check "Enable mouse events" (if you used them).  Also it is convenient to assign an individual hotkey to your macro.

That's about all! Test it several times - if it works OK (just in case).

When the macro is ready, right-click on the name of the macro and choose "Schedule this macro".
Select "Once", select the time to start, click "Advanced" - check "Repeat tast" and set the interval  and duration.
Enjoy

It takes some time to get used to, but not much!  We have a lot of time left
I wanted to post these instructions beforehand, too, but then desided to wait for the real business (and the rise of enthusiasm ))

And another trick - creating a macro-command that will vote for you while you sleep, or go out for a walk etc.
I use this programm (Windows): http://www.hot-keyboard.com/files/hkpro.exe
It can record keystrokes and movements and clicks of the mouse - very easy!
(And the macro can be scheduled - in my case I set it to run once every 16 minutes).

Mike Binder might just be on to something with “The Search for John Gissing,” a precious commodity – an indie comedy that actually delivers the goods. –HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

A refreshing antidote to gross out comedies … a very funny film, sometimes uproaringly so … executed with deft comic timing and plentiful guffaws … a throwback to the mod English comedies of the 1960s and ‘70s. –VARIETY

… Janeane Garofalo in her best role since The Truth About Cats And Dogs … this could easily be the next big, yet totally unexpected, comic sleeper to come out of London’s independent scene. –MAYFAIR NEWS

“The Search for John Gissing” is the funniest independent adult comedy in years. –SIXTY SECOND PREVIEW

“Wall to wall big laughs. A perfect independent comedy. Could easily be a sleeper hit.” –ENTERTAINMENTSTUDIONEWS.COM

Wonderfully silly comedy … fast-paced … an irresistible combination of witty writing … and talented comic actors. –FILM GUIDE MAGAZINE

Great! … the acting here is dead on … Binder and Garofalo have great chemistry … check out this film, it's a great date movie. –AIN’T IT COOL NEWS

Highly Recommended! … Pick of the Litter! … Rickman steals the show in this Brit-out-of-water comedy … plays like Sixties Neil Simon or Blake Edwards. –THE AUSTIN CHRONICLE

“…an unpretentious mockery of the business world that pits Matthew Barnes (Mike Binder) against John Gissing (played spot-on by Alan Rickman) …impressive supporting cast that includes the hilarious Janeane Garofalo…a wild-goose-chase-turned-revenge-plot refreshing and consistently funny.” –NICOLE COHEN – EYE TORONTO

A non-stop roller coaster ride of a comedy … Writer/Director Mike Binder stars along with the amazing talents of actors Alan Rickman and Janeane Garofalo… –THE HERALD TRIBUNE

… excellent cast … Binder’s briskly written screenplay and snappy pacing, The Search for John Gissing makes for a … funny off-Hollywood farce. – FILM THREAT MAGAZINE

lauren, I took a peek at your themes. They are gorgeous!  I'm not a paid member of LJ and I don't use themes but you've done some really nice work.  We have such a talented bunch of people here!

Vicki, I'm so glad you're not in harm's way of the fires.  I hope they will get them contained very soon.

Tonight is the BIG night for some of our group!!!  Can't wait to read your experiences!

And I'm going to do an Elaine here....I'm only including this emoti because I like it.  *grin*

Claudia - not to worry.  The fires are in the hills along the border of L.A./Ventura County.  Quite a distance from where the screening will be tomorrow night.  I live a little closer to the fires...not in harm's way but it was raining ashes today and the air smells of smoke.  Hopefully they will get it contained soon.

BlueBeatBabe - that photo is gorgeous!  I wonder what it is from?

Pam-midwest - that is awesome news about the film distributor!  Are they coming out from KS just for the screening, or do they have someone here in L.A. already?  Wouldn't that be something if they picked it up?  We'd have our lovely Pam to thank for it.

Elaine: It don't know, maybe. It was a travelling exhibition. I was staying in Birmingham at that time and read about the display in a local newspaper. So I took my day off to travel to Wolverhampton and see it. It was in the Wolverhampton Art Gallery and unfortunately only one room with about 20 costumes. I talked to one guides and she told me that they would change the exhibited costumes during the exhibition. It seems that I was lucky to see Brandon's coat.

Hi Claudia...

I wanted to let everyone know that I had found that there was a brand new film distribution company out of KS...

I emailed them the info and website on the John Gissing Movie, and also the website and info on a little independent feature I worked on a couple of years ago that is still looking for a distributor as well....

The guys that own the company, which thankfully is fully funded at this time, were interested in  both films and were happy to have the info..

As of this evening, they are attending John Gissing's premier this weekend....They said they'd email me with their reviews! Let's hope they can do a deal!

Wow, it's nice to find something you all hadn't see yet. It's not easy to do. Here's the transcipt. Not too interesting. He does like to drop Almodóvar's name a lot, doesn't he? I hope Pedro's paying attention!

"It doesn’t feel like a typical English film. He’s got his elbows spreading wider.

Always a kind of arrow pointing towards reality and truth and you just have to stay on that train.

Yes, it’s a horrible world and, uh, and it’s hard to make sense of it. And when we go to the theatre or we pick up a book or we go to see a film, you, part of you wants to be taken away from that and part of you wants somebody to make sense of the world for you. And if you have, you have a reality on film could be in the hands of somebody like Mike Lee or Kenneth Loach. Uh, and there is another type of reality which is Almodóvar. And that’s not unreal but it’s different…it’s somewhere else. And I think that Richard Curtis occupies not the same territory as Almodóvar and not the same territory as Mike Lee."

Seeing your son on the tv must have been a pleasant surprise, Elaine!  The weekend is almost here!!!  Its fun to spot actors you like in shows unexpectantly!

I was checking in on the California map to see how far the wildfires are from the Crest Theatre on Westwood and it looks like its a pretty long distance, thank goodness.  I hope all our friends in the LA area are far from harm too.

INTJ! Thank you for snagging the Spanish LA interview.  I have it tucked away for a rainy day.  *grin*

Alba, would you mind telling us what he's saying?  At the end, I know I heard Almodovar so I know the conversation must have been about directors.

On a side note, I still have the hope that he met with Almodovar and they have something brewing!

INTJ, you really are a whizz! And Alba, good find!! This GB is an absolute goldmine for AR fans. And it's really great that everyone shares, too!

Chalebh, is this the same exhibition that was - or is - at the Bath Museum of Costume? I've been meaning to go see it for ages.

Laura, I had not seen a couple of those GQ pics before. Thanks. Funny enough, last night it was freezing here, so I made myself some Hot Chocolate (with a nice tot of rum in it), got into bed early, and watched GQ all the way through. It's such a funny film and AR is so good in it. He should do LOTS more comedy. I also watched H2G2 today. Disappointed in the film itself although there were a couple of very funny scenes, but AR's voice talents again showed how good he is at comedy. I was disappointed in the extras. He must have come on board really late.

Just seen my son on TV. Local tv were doing a piece on his new college and he was in it for about 30 secs. Going to pick him up tomorrow for his first weekend home. *spoil...feed.....hug"

This is SUCH old news, I'm sure you've already seen it, but I hadn't. It's the presentation of 'Love Actually' in Spain and there is a video of an interview with AR, Heike Makatsch and Bill Nighy. Unfortunately it's dubbed over in Spanish, but he LOOKS good and you can hear the English pretty well. She looks bored out of her mind (silly girl). Here's the link (click on 'ver video'):

Dee-Alan is not your typical bad guy in the bad guy( Hans, George and Elliot way) but he definitly does some bad things, but in a humorus way.....although i have not seen it I would have to say it is a comedy all the way, i even  got to use the line

"no chiar pissing" at work. There are lots of one liners and funny moments, if you thought Alan was good in Galaxy Quest then you will love him in this movie, it shows a side of Alan we are rarely treated to, his comedic side....one I think he should show more often. check out the movie clip and the trailer, they should give you some hints as to what it will be like.....

What "lustful underbelly?"  If they're going to have some hot, steamy scene between Elizabeth and Dudley, even though I adore Irons, I don't know if I want to see that sort of butchering of history!

It was butchered badly enough in that ELIZABETH movie.

Thursdays, 29 September and 6 October 2005, 9pm Channel 4

Quote:

Elizabeth I, daughter of Henry VIII, reunited a nation divided by religious strife, faced down the Spanish Armada and, at the end of her 45-year reign, had become one of England's best-loved monarchs.

During her time as queen, poets and playwrights wrote about her, artists painted her, composers dedicated their work to her, all contributing to the legend of Gloriana, the Virgin Queen. Channel 4’s two-part drama Elizabeth I – starring Helen Mirren in the title role – looks beyond the myth at the woman behind the crown.

The drama begins in 1579, when the 46-year-old Elizabeth is 15 years into her Protestant reign. Illuminating the grimy, lustful underbelly behind the opulence and formality of the English court, it tells the intimate story of Britain's most famous queen for the first time.

just thought Id remind you about it!

I have found the Hello site a little cranky about loading in the last day or two, but the only time it refused to change the vote total was when I didn't let 15 minutes go by between votes.  Other than that, I don't know what could be wrong.

But I really think Clooney will draw votes from AR (not from dedicated AR fans, of course, but from people who generally admire attractive mature men),  whether it's in the monthly runoff or the yearly one (where beating Johnny Depp is going to take every vote we can cast).  So, at this point, I'd say a vote for Denton is a vote for AR.

Mostly it's plucky little American Guy being taken for a ride by nasty Brit who has his own agenda.

Lots of London scenery as American Guy searches London for JG. Then as you say they sort of work together (without giving too much away, just in case it ever gets released!!) Lots of nice character playing by the smaller parts including Juliet Stevenson.

Dee, you wanted to know what this movie is about, well i can tell you with one quote from John Gissing.

Mathew -" they bring me over here to replace you? Is that it?

John -"one day, not to far down the road, they'll suddenly call up your number and hand it over to someone else,--and when that day comes, i  promise you this------you wont be there to pick the little f-cker up at the airport, you physically wont be able to make the trip".

I think thats how it goes..........Mathew is hired by the company John works for and John thinks its to replace him. So John sets him up to become a failure with at work and at home ( hense the nun who is willing to give a blow job) and by maxing all of Mathews credit so they have nothing to go with......then i think that in the end they work together.

I have never seen it so i could be wrong, if i am, could someone please correct me and my apoligies if i am wrong. I only have clips and reviews to go on...............i sure wouldnt mind making up my own review after i see it,,,,,,,,,,,

The currently monthly vote (with Huge Jackman way out front) finishes on the 30th (this Friday). THEN the new one with Alan, Elijah Wood, Robbie Williams and Nigel Harman begins. That's what we must be limbering up our digits for!!

We all love AR, but we have a sense of humour, and no amount of paparazzi pics can damage our daily "homage".What comes through from your site is the same "adoration" as the rest of us have.   Just a note of THANKS for everyone who has visited my site over the past several months....today we just passed 10,000 hit mark..frankly I didn't expect to get that far as fast as it did..so yay!

This is a good time to pause a moment and reflect, for one year ago, last September, *this* unflattering photo shoot came to light:

Yes folks..we all remember this classic. Now this surfaced right when I was starting to learn about Alan, so to have this hit me square in the face so early on really set the mood for what was to come. What really got me intrigued when this was passed around the net was how the fans totally embraced it..completely unfazed by the editor's mean attempt to mock, fans rallied around the pudge, worshipped it's glory, singing it's praise. I was really impressed by the sense of humor I was seeing..and it gave me alot of ideas on how to handle the many layered ironies of the whole health food vs. junk food theme. A theme, granted, that's been soundly beaten to death but heck. It's a livin'.

Anyway, I would just like to thank all the visitors to my site, and all the encouragement and positive comments..it really helps me keep going knowing you all are gettin' a bang out of it. Plus, keep those photos and clips about food consumption coming..they are the lifeblood of the site!! Without them, most of which I get here from this forum, "the gallery" couldn't grow!

Next month I plan to pay homage to the photo shoot that started it all for me by tracking down the health food store in London where the pictures were taken. I don't know that the same bananas are going to be hanging there (har har) but the spirit of the panda pudge will be lingering in the breeze, I am sure.

Vicki: If your DVD player is able to play region 2 DVDs, here is a source where you can order "Romeo & Juliet" (RC2) with Alan Rickman as Tybalt. Play.com has also an International Site with RC1 DVDs but unfortunately there isn't this DVD available.

Lucky you. Enjoy the screening.

And for all of us who won't be there, here are another couple of screen shots. This time from the website.

Thanks to Emily and some great research by Claudia I have now canceled my order with Amazon.  The Rocketbooks DVD is NOT, I repeat, NOT the same as the BBC production of Romeo & Juliet that AR appeared in.  How they connected it with Alan's name is beyond me, but luckily I was able to cancel my order at no charge.  Thanks, all!

Susan, CA.....Berkley is just a 45 minute plane trip.  It'd be fun if you could come!  Unfortunately, my friend won't be able to make it, but I'll go by myself if I have to!  Anyone else in the area planning to attend and we could meet up?  You can e-mail me and let me know...Lurking lawyer, Red Tango?  I know there's more of you out there.  We could drink a toast to AR afterwords.

Helen, Almost all (if not all) the BBC radio stations have a Listen Now and an archive feature but the one I first became acquainted with was BBC 4 Afternoon Play  With the Listen Now feature, you can listen to what is being broadcast at the moment.  The archive feature holds a play for 7 days after the initial broadcast.  I believe you will need Real Player to listen to any BBC radio shows.  If you need any other help, don't hesitate to ask.

Vicki, Rocketbooks are like DVD versions of Cliff Notes. They're  computer animations of the classics with lots of pop-ups explaining what's going on, etc. The Rickman R&J is part of the BBC Complete Works of Shakespeare. Unless Rocketbooks acquired it ... but the Rocketbooks I've seen don't have live action, only computer graphics.

Oh, Claudia!!!    Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!! for the info on the Westwood film festival!!!!!!  I'm just waiting to hear back from my friend as to whether she can come with me and then I'm buying tickets!!!  You are da bomb, girl!  Is anyone else on this GB planning to go?  Does anyone have any questions they would want asked afterwords?   Oh, this is great!!!

Now I have a question.....a few weeks ago I placed an order on Amazon for a region 1 DVD of Romeo and Juliet starring Alan Rickman.  I am assuming that this is the same R & J from 1978 that Claudia has clips from on her television page.  I just got a notice from Amazon that the real title of this DVD is: Rocketbook Presents Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet - a DVD Study Guide.  Is anyone familiar with this DVD or the Rocketbook series?  Is this the same production that I'm thinking of?  The page still says "starring Alan Rickman" so I can't imagine that he would have done another one.  Does anyone know?  Thanks!

Elaine: an elephant ear is a midwestern festival treat. It's dough rolled out very thin (as big as an "elephant's ear") then deep fried. Slathered with butter then sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon, it's huge, heavenly and messy! Think AR would enjoy it? I'd happily share!! In the hot tub!!

Well, the Gissing screening at Westwood is good news to say the least.  If anyone attends, please be sure to let us know first what you thought of the film and secondly, what is said in the Binder Q&A afterwards.

Thanks for the wizard news story, Inbredwaffle.  Despite the typo, I really like the description of AR's character.  I think if Binder has any chance of selling this film at all, he really needs to pull out all stops on promoting AR's name and work in this film for he really is the only saving grace.

That's right Elaine...the hot tub scene!  When will we hear something about Snow Cake????

I see I’ve missed some birthdays, though it seems the days were well celebrated!

It’s thrilling to see that TSfJG will be shown again at a film festival in Los Angeles.  I have seen this flick, and it is very funny.  If Mike B. is attempting a second round at festivals, mayhap we can help by requesting the film at a festival near us.  In my local area, e.g., the Cleveland International ff, which takes place in March, invites programming suggestions from members of the Film Society, which one can join free of charge.  It seems like a good time to become a member and suggest a certain extremely funny film.  http://clevelandfilm.org/   Perhaps there’s a ff somewhere near you?  Austin, Atlanta, Peoria., Adelaide, Manchester, Kuala Lumpur?  It doesn’t make sense to join in Cleveland if you live far from here, but Buckeyes......

Elaine, I spent a day in York in June and had tea at Betty’s.  What an experience!  Train through King’s Cross, so I also have the pic at Platform 9 ¾ and memories/photos of KC that became poignant on July 8&9.

BTW, I’m listening to BBC4’s Classic Serial Northanger Abbey, very funny, with Saskia Reeves, Sinclair’s wife in CME, as one character.  Three cheers for radio.  SR is 43 but on the wireless can play a character in her early 20s.

Thunderstorms from Rita predicted here, almost 1,000 miles from the Gulf, but so far nothing.

Kathy, did not realise you might be affected. I'm glad you are all okay. We listened to the radio on the way home yesterday and were relieved to hear that Rita had been downgraded. We've been cut off from news for the last 2 weeks and only just heard about it.

Good news about TSfJG. Surely someone would pick it up for dvd? I don't think any amount of petitions will help. I'm just hoping "Snowcake" does not go that way but with big stars and an up and coming director, I hope it will be distributed in all the big cinemas (I HAVE to see the hot tub scene!!!!) Drooling

Barbara, thanks, my son is doing really well at his new college but I do miss him. The whole college went to Alton Towers today (UK cut down version of Disneyland) for free. I'm looking forward to seeing him this Friday.

I was very heartened to see that John Gissing is being shown in Westwood.  Maybe John Binder is trying to whip up enthusiasm for it's release or at least to DVD.  It looks so funny it would be a shame not to have the opportunity to see it.

Had a long long kip so feel a bit better now.

Dee, what are elephant ears?  Elephant Veerrry eeenteresting. We have a sort of a street fair this week, too. Mainly just a fair and a long street of market traders but the first day of St Matthew's Fair involves the trading of farm animals! That was a nice gesture by your son. I think writing to AR involves quite a bit of "pot luck".

We had one day off on this 2 week camp and we spent most of that in a fruitless effort to take over some accommodation. Just managed to sweep back into the city for the Ghost Walk Ghostand a nice meal. We sneaked in on Friday night and Betty's was still open but "heaving" so I've decided to go back for a couple of days later on in the year. "Borders" was open too and I finally bought "Jonathon Strange & Dr Norrell" for a bargain price, only to leave it in the restaurant! I WILL read it one day. We finally got our Gulf Medals though. Only 2 years late for us on Telic 3, nearly 3 years for the guys on Telic 1. That's the Army for you.

Anyone heard if "Snowcake" is nearing the end of post-production? It's gone a bit quiet in that department. I've got my Chelsea tickets, too. I can feel some negotiating coming on. I love those sandals he's wearing in the "toes" pic. Spanish? Looks like he's been on the gym circuit in that pic, too. I've said it before, 59 year old men are not supposed to look that good!!

Welcome back, Elaine! Since everyone is asking questions: What's a "kip"? *rubbing hands together in gleeful anticipation*

My son just handed me a letter. The sweet boy wrote to AR to get me an autograph (yes, the same child that ruined all my Harry Potter DVDs). Unfortunately, all he got was a nice note from Melanie Parker - no photo or autograph. If you're curious, here's part of the note:

"Thank you for your letter to Alan Rickman. I will of course pass it on to Mr. Rickman at the earliest opportunity but sadly he is unable to send an autograph as requested. Mr. Rickman is currently in Spain filming "Perfume" and is likely to be away for some time. I am sorry to send disappointing news but hope you understand that it is extremely difficult to fulfill the many requests while Mr. Rickman is abroad for such long periods of time..."

Sigh...Oh well. Disappointing, but I'm basking in my son's thoughtful attempt!

OT: Today is the last day of our town's only brush with fame: the "Bluffton Street Fair - the worlds largest free street fair!". Each September, they close down the entire town for a week (including detouring the state highway) and fill the streets with food booths, carnival games & rides, arts & crafts, county music bands, and parades. It ain't no 5-star restaurant in Barcelona, but could I tempt AR to come and share a breaded tenderloin sandwich "the size of your head", a crispy elephant ear, a zum stick and a lemon shake up? Then we could head over to "Art's Stagger Inn" and dance the night away! *snicker* You probably think I'm joking, but it's all true. Welcome to a big night in Indiana!

Thanks for the pumpkin, sue. Hope my allotment ones are HUGE! I'll be down to see them amidst the weeds tomorrow.

Went to Queen Elizabeth Barracks just outside York. I love York and I must admit, did not have time to search properly. Perhaps the York council frown on such things as it is such a lovely old city! I did not even have time to go to Betty's - Aaagh! But did go on a ghost tour!

Hi all! Just got back from "oop north" and I am well and truly "kna**ered". We have not had a minute to ourselves and Internet Cafes do not seem to have reached Yorkshire yet so I'm really glad to be back with you all again.

Just flicked through 12 pages of news! Lovely new pics! Toes......mmmmm. And the wig isn't as bad as I feared. Definitely a "fat" suit, though, a la ET. Lovely vids - Claudia, you've been very busy!!

Brilliant to finally see a Snape pic from GoF. He looks even better than in PoA. Can't wait for Film no 6!!!

Happy belated birthdays to Laurie (will email you later), Sabine and Suzy Q! Hope you had a marvellous time!

Have not been through my post yet but I hope my tickets are in there somewhere. I hope my off duty allows me to go!

I'm off for a kip now. Catch you later when I'm refreshed!

Not too bad Claudia, thanks. My son was off school with bad throat and cold yesterday. I think I am getting the throat. I would have gone if it was just that but my stomach didn't feel great either and I really didn't want to risk a train journey then a theatre seat feeling I need to rush to the loo, and of course the more I worried about it the worse it felt!!

Oh well, I'm sure Kev got along fine without me

Sorry for the delay in answering, Claudia. But here are my recollections of the AR films we saw at the New York library last June.

The films are of much higher quality than either those available on the Internet (clarity, length, closeups, camera work) or the PL version for sale on e-Bay (PL here is a fully professional version, complete, clear, shot at a reasonable height and distance, and done by someone who knew the play and where to put the camera; it was filmed during a better performance, too).

The four (the library calls them three clips, but there are four scenes) LLD clips are from the New York production with Suzanne Burden. I have never seen AR so totally and devastatingly sexy as he is in these clips.

1--"I can see I will have to tell you everything" from Act 1, but beginning three pages earlier than on the Hampton interview film and going on a little longer; it is a different film and probably a different performance.

2--"Parting" from Tourvel in Act I.

3--Bringing LD up to date on the seduction: "One does not applaud the
tenor for clearing his throat." This is the same scene as in the Tonys clip, but, I think, a different and better filming and performing of it. Much closer camera work, as I remember.

4--Writing the letter to Tourvel using the courtesan's back as his desk.

I have bought copies of the play from Samuel French (a cheap acting edition) and from ABE (or maybe it was Alibris), the book club edition with the photographs. It's sensational, and you can imagine AR in every moment of it. How dreadful that the film is lost!

To Lucy and all who were talking about the BBC production of "Elizabeth I" with Helen Mirren and Jeremy Irons --  This is a co-production with HBO in the US, and it will air here. Not sure if it's going to be 2005 or 06 (probably 06).  But if you dont subscribe to HBO, now might be a good time!  Some of us Anglophiles have been watching "Rome" on HBO, with Ciaran Hinds, James Purefoy and two of AR's leading ladies, Polly Walker (very naughty!) and Lindsay Duncan. And Ricky Gervais's "Extras" is starting Sunday night.

Ali-Pat, our experience last summer with the NYC public library filmed drama archives at Lincoln Center was a bit trickier than that.  We had to join the library, writing out the purpose of our research project.  We had to make an appointment to see the films.  We had to give up our purses, etc.,  sign in with two forms of identification and a letter addressed to one of us by a government agency (we hadn't been warned about this part and just were lucky), we had to write out the purpose of our research again and sign it before another witness.  We could replay bits of the tapes but once through with a tape we could not go back to it.  Ever.  And we were searched on the way out.  It was entirely, 100% worth it, but it wasn't easy to do.  I'm glad they protect there irreplaceable films so carefully, but--wow!

Hikity, anyone can see the LLD tape at the Lincoln Center Library (AKA The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts) if they present themselves as a researcher and agree to follow certain archival procedures.  Same goes for most archives and rare book libraries--just behave yourself and you can look at practically anything they have.

Ness, you were wondering about Rex Doyle's Staging Youth Theatre?  Alan did indeed write the Foreword, and here it is:

I first met and worked with Rex Doyle at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, when he directed me in his own play about the life of the great dancer, Nijinsky.

Everything that makes Rex such a fine director and teacher was evident in that production.  Meticulous research and great leaps of imagination.  But perhaps most importantly it was a production that was guided at all times by Rex’s openness and generosity towards the actors and his boundless gift for encouragement.  And it was fun.  The rehearsal room was by definition a market place for common sense, fleeting instincts and mad ideas.

This excellent book is fed by exactly the same balance of the creative and the practical.  Whether you need information on fund-raising, auditioning, running a rehearsal or making a prop, it is all here.

Youth Theatre continues to prove its worth not only in training young actors, directors and technicians, but also in developing the confidence and self-esteem of young people in a much wider sense.  Dedicated youth leaders will benefit hugely from the guidance and inspiration which this book offers in abundance.

And I agree with Alan that the book is excellent.

Thanks, Daydreamer, I was just coming to post the link: Diari de Girona, click on 'Cultura' and 'Un model d´actor polifacètic'.

The article is a summary of AR's career...nothing new...winds up saying he has two new films coming out Snow Cake and Goblet of Fire. The last paragraph says: 'Meanwhile, Rickman hasn't stopped smiling and consulting travel guides about Girona, making true the addage that the most sinister looking actors are, at times, the most accessible.'

Thanks for clearing that up, Susan.  It's sad about RSC not having a copy of LLD.  If anyone should have had one it was them.  The copy I knew about was the one housed in the NY public library system somewhere, but I haven't done any contactiing of them to see if it's been lost or not.  I thought I had heard that somewhere in the UK there was a copy as well.  I wanna say the name of the place is something like Stratford, but I don't know if that's even a real place or where in that place it would be.   My email is fvnesscafe@ yahoo.com.  Thanks for helping me.  All you guys are just so wonderful!

Ness--I'm afraid I caused the confusion about Lincoln Center and LLD. They have about ten minutes of fabulous clips, but not the whole thing. (I was there this summer and saw what they had, which includes all of Private Lives.) To make things worse, I got a letter this morning from the library that houses the RSC archives; they say they know of no filmed copy of that production of LLD anywhere.  I am so sorry.

On the other hand, I do have the introduction AR wrote that you asked about. I'll email it to you, if you send me your address.

Hey Everyone!

A happy, happy birthday to you, Sabine!

on

Ali-Pat, how did you find out that it had been viewed recently?  Who do you call to ask about this stuff?  Is the Lincoln Center part of the New York Library system?

Claudia, I actually found out that my problem w/ capturing is due to hardware acceleration settings in my players.  I fixed the one in Windows Media Player (since I use it most), so now I can take screencaps when I want.

Laura, you are such a doll!     I don't think I have the "Stamp R Sist" key though.  I wonder if it's because I have a laptop...  Hmm...  At any rate I really appreciate all you did to help me and I really appreciate the pic!  How cool are you!

Does anyone know anything about Alan writing a forward for a book?  I was pittering on the New York library site and found this:  http://leopac3.nypl.org/ipac20/ipac.jsp?session=112740A9662WD.1449&profile=dial--3&uri=search=TW~!Staging%20youth%20theatre%20/%20%20&term=Staging%20youth%20theatre%20/%20%20&aspect=basic&menu=search&source=~!dial#focus

OT, I know but I've been meaning to mention this.  I saw Sea of Souls last Monday and I really like it!  I really didn't doubt that I would with Bill Paterson heading up the cast but the show was really good.  And the little boy that played Joe was fantastic!

Now I see starting September 30, BBC-A will be airing a show starring the brilliant Anna Massey called The Robinsons!  I tell you what, BBC-A will go dry for two or three months airing the same old stuff over and over and then all of a sudden its like they come to life again with really good shows.

Thank you, Laura!  I thought it might be the Italian equivalent of the "Print Screen" key but wanted to make sure.

Before I found PrintKey2000, I tried using the PS key and Paint Shop to do screen caps from streaming video but it never worked for me.  The cap I'd paste was black.  Maybe it will work for Ness.

Alba!  I've been meaning to ask you more about El Bulli.  Was the effort and money worth the meal and experience?  Maybe your friend of a friend of a friend could arrange something for The Man.  I'm sure if a reservation could be had, the restaurant would know how to get in touch with him.

I'm also still working on blowing up that sign that AR was holding in Senorita L's pic but so far I haven't had a whole lot of luck.

INTJ--So far as I know the LLD tape has been stolen from the archives at Lincoln Center in NYC.  I haven't heard anything about the London one being stolen.

As for the costume/wig photos from the set of Perfume, I think I will reserve judgement except to say it is not my favorite AR look so far!  I am also beginning to understand why he usually refuses to wear a wig.

There is a 2 1/2 minute "behind the scenes" video from Goblet of Fire here

Since all I have is a clunky dial-up, I'm only able to see just a couple of frames of video and just audio.  Could one of you extra clever girls maybe capture this video for us poor, unfortunates who are unable to view it properly?  I would be most grateful!

Ummm....not sure what to think of that Perfume costume.  Let's just say, I've seen him in better looking period clothes.  Oh, well...I'm sure once I've seen him in action, I'll forget all about the costume.

Damn, that Search for John Gissing looks like a good film.  Now, what is the backstory on that?  It was only shown at a film festival?  Or was it released in the UK?  Why wouldn't the film's financial backers try to earn a little more money by releasing it on DVD?  Unless there's issues like too much money to spend on music clearances or something like that, I just can't see why they wouldn't do it?

Red Tango -- Loved the new additions! My favorite - the Mesmur "flash"! I laughed til I cried!

Claudia - Thanks for the Perfume photos! I think the costume is a bit disappointing -- they are certainly are not dressing AR to take advantage of his natural sex appeal -- but he looks like he's having a good time.

Sue - I never thought of it before, but you're right. "Not yet 40" is considered young now, but back then people died of "old age" in their 50s & 60s. So AR's true age probably evens things out.

Ness -- My mind is in the gutter with you! AR's pretty vigorous in my dreams!

Emily --

Speaking of the video of LLD -

Ness and Emily, I absolutely hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the RSC video collection at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust web site (go to http://www.shakespeare.org.uk/main/3/233 then click on "Non Shakespeare Plays" and you'll get a long list of plays  http://www.shakespeare.org.uk/main/3/235  -- does *NOT* include LLD.

There are rumours that the video of LLD was STOLEN.

*wails and sobs uncontrollably*

It is SO beyond me how ANYone could be so selfish as to do this and deprive the world and posterity of this once-in-a-millennium production and performance by AR...!!!  Words simply fail me.

Does anybody have more recent/detailed info on this?

Emily

Ness:  LLD was a RSC production, so I assume it was at least filmed for RSC archiving purposes. Whether it's of professional quality, I have no idea.  There is a clip of LLD on the Download Haven.

Sorry, you'll have to count me out of any petition. I think they're ineffective most of the time, since everyone and their brother can make an internet petition about anything.

Claudia, thank you so much for the MASSIVE update to the site (all your incredible and incredibly hard work is truly appreciated!!) and the pics from the Perfume set!!

I must admit, the first thing that went through my mind was, "Alan looks pregnant."  Why on earth did they pad out his tummy region??  I don't know whether to laugh or cry - I didn't think Richis was supposed to look like that!  (And I will refrain from commenting on the shoes and George Washington wig...)

Anyway, I'm thrilled to see Alan seems to be enjoying himself.  He looks quite happy and relaxed. (Not to mention he looks absolutely hunky in all those new pics where he's out of his Perfume costume.  )

As for the "gourmet" vs. "gourmand" thing - well, considering that El Bulli offers 27!!!-course meals, he needs to be both a gourmet AND a gourmand, right?

Wonderful pictures. But I still don't know if I like how Alan looks like.

And with the "gourmand" lapse this reminds me of an radio ad in Germany some years ago. Thomas Gottschalk, a very famous show host in German TV, mixed up the words gourmand and gourmet as well. After airing the first ad, a huge flurry occurred and they had to do the ad again.

But maybe this referring to AR this wasn't a lapse at all?

Laura, I'm talking about files that I download like windows media and realplayer media files.  For some reason my screen capture tool won't pick up the pictures from the video files.   Also that pic of Alan in the brown leather jacket is sooooo hot!  I love him in leather jackets.  He's so sexy!

This week's "Hello" men aren't much to look at in my opinion.  I'll probably get flamed for this, but I've always thought Hugh Grant was a horsey looking fellow.  I know that's mean, but he is!  And Justin Timberlake?  YUCK!!!  Oh well, different strokes for different folks, right?

Claudia, thanks for your help, but I tried it and it won't pick up the pictures from the video either.  I'm starting to wonder if it's some kind of setting in my computer messing things up.   Also, thanks for the Alan pics!  I agree w/ everyone that says he is definately sporting the George Washington look for this movie!  *giggles* George never looked so good though! Hehe

Gissing Girl, thanks for sharing that bit about Alan and the restaurant!  I couldn't help laughing!  "self confessed gourmand"!    Silly man!

Red Tango, I don't believe I've ever told you so, but I adore your website.  You've got a wicked sense of humor!  Poor Alan!

When Richis is introduced in the book it says:

"Richis was a widower and had a daughter named Laure. Although not yet forty years old, and of undiminished vigour, he intended to put off a second marriage for some time yet."

So really he is twenty years too old for the part but then again in those days forty was getting on a bit I suppose, so maybe he can carry it off.

Undiminished vigour sounds OK though

Thank you Claudia for the Perfume pics. He doesn't look as bad as feared in the dreaded wig, in fact it quite suits him.Especially being silver, in keeping with his age and character. I like the form fitting, and i dont see teh pudge!  I do think he looks good, it just took me by shock......thanks Claudia, it was great to finally see him in costume,he did look different than i thought he would, better than i thought he woudl too. I thought they might put a longer black one on him--wrong. I thought his lavish rich outfit might be red--wrong. I got to use a line from the trailer,,,,,,a girl at work was saying that she had to pee so bad and if she didnt go now she would piss in the chair, i looked at her and said,,,,,," no chair pissing". I tell you i can quote alote of movie lines from his movies but i never thought i would use that one.

Seen in today's Daily Mail.

"Even being voted one of the 100 sexiest stars in film history doesn't help get you a reservation at the best restaurant in the world, as arch actor Alan Rickman has found to his cost. The self confessed gourmand, 59, has yet to dine at legendary Spanish eatery El Bulli, where chef Ferrran Adria uses liquid nitrogen to create the "molecular cuisine" that has earned three Michelin stars. "I've been trying to get a reservation all week," complains Alan, who is in Barcelona filming the movie version of Patrick Suskind's cult novel Perfume:the Story of a Murderer. It had better be a long shoot, Alan: the next available reservation is April 2006"

Annick, thanks for the Snape pic!  I do loves me some Snape!

I too agree that Alan would probably not want a star in either Britian or the US.  He's seems very dedicated to his work, but I don't think he's into the whole "worship me, look at me I'm so famous" side of being an actor.  I could be horribly wrong and he might think it would be a kick, but somehow my instincts say otherwise.  He seems like such a humble man.

I agree whole heartedly there, Sue. But its hard to see the likes of Dame Judi Dench, Laurence Olivier, John Gielgud, Noel Coward, and Kenneth Branagh and not be upset about AR not being there.

Then there is always the possibility that each celeb or estate of celeb was consulted and maybe AR declined the "honor".  I could definitely see that.

The stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame do have to be bought.  I think the price tag is something like $10,000.  Pulllezzzz, I really think AR would say "Don't buy me a bloody star...put that money to work in a good charity!"

We'll have to keep in eye on miss_celebrity!  I hope she doesn't get a single bid!  What nerve!

As far as the American Star thing, I think I am right in believing that nowadays they have to be "bought" at some great price?

As far as the Avenue of Stars ----------patience my friends, patience. He will be honoured. They probably have his star all ready to go but since he isnt in London at the time because of filming they are going to wait to reveal his star like they do in the USA. Trust me , he has a star,  as he is a star, the british people know this, the british film industry knows this and his time will come...................i hope,,,,er no, i mean i know it will. Just more photo opportunities for us then eh.......i mean i can see it now, Alan in a suit or tux having a little ceremony in his honour revealing his star on the Avenue,,,,,,,,it will happen my friends, it will happen. "if you build it , he will come" hee hee, ok im sorry.

You know something, when i was in Hollywood last year i noticed that i didnt see any british stars on the walk of fame, the only ones i saw were Sir Anthony Hopkins and  Sir Laurence Olivier. I didndt see no Richard Harris, no Peter Otoole, no Hugh Grant, no Kenneth Brannagh. It was sad really, british film stars deserve stars on the walk of fame in Hollywood too.

Wow, girls , I'm doing well !!!... I only wrote to Bill Nighy about 2 weeks ago about his performance in 'The Girl In The Cafe' and his awards for State of Play and Love Actually plus a few personal comments .- it was a good letter... even if I say so myself !I added some humourous comments which I think would have appealed to his rather self-effacing wit !

Anyway, what a lovely man, he has sent me 2 lovely photographs, both signed and dedicated 'LOVE BILL NIGHY' and
'ROCK Bill Nighy with three kisses ... aah, Sweet. !

Miriam -- So, you're in the "lonely wife club" too? You're right -- we miss our men like Rima must miss AR when he's on the road. But, we don't have to worry about adoring women chasing our men and tossing their knickers at them! At least, I don't think so...!

Aurora -- Thanks for that interview! AR doesn't talk much about Snape (gee...I thought he didn't like being Snape), so it was wonderful to read his own words.

Quote:
What’s fantastic is that, in general, people love Snape.
Silly man...he doesn't realise that it's him AS Snape that many of us love!

Hi Sherry and welcome aboard! Glad you decided to join us.  We have a lot of fun here so stick around.

Yes, the Halloween decorations are a bit pre-mature but I've been working on the site update and thought I would work on this part as well. Besides, I thought the upper portion of this book needed a little cheering up after all the terrible events of late.  There are some Halloween smilies available too.

Daydreamer, thanks for the new pic.  Snape looks sooooo thin in that pic!

Alfan, I don't have the Gissing petiition link above.  I've never had a whole lot of confidence that it will do anything so I've never felt compelled to add it. Sorry.

By the look of Alans awkward stance, i dont think he has done much golfing in his life......although im sure he tried to master the look for the movie,,he failed. His right hand is too far down in the grip, his knees are not bent slightly, and he is to far away from the ball. ( can you tell i golf)

I hope they only had to do one take on the spitting scene it would be awfull for the poor fellow who got the brunt of the spew to have to do it more than once, that looks funny........oh,i do hope this movie can be released.

Hi there, I've just read about your tiny problems, Claudia. Just in case...here is "my" procedure to enter Nadège's golden  book:

open the site; click on the nice Alan-pic which says "livre d'or", then on the lilac one: Ajouter un message", fill in your name  (Votre nom), write your message, then scroll down until: "Ajouter mon message sans prévisualiser" (send my message without preview) (you can add one of the smiles before sending, of course )

Oh dear, what a day today! And only 79% voted although it was such an important election. The next days will be really enthralling

Welcome to the group, Miriam.  I hope you will stay with us.

No word from Senorita L on what it is he is holding?  Well, maybe Alba will have time to pop in and translate for us.

Thanks for the translations of the French article, Nadege and Aurora.  Its obvious the interviewer has never peeked at some of the Snape site out here...they'd see plenty Snape birthday celebrations!  LOL

Aurora, thanks for the NPR head's up.  That is the same dolphin pod but I hadn't heard that interview.  Also, they are in Gulfport, MS instead of New Orleans as I originally thought.

I've been working more on the site update and was poking around in my AR stuff and found the photos of the tan suit I talked about a few days ago. These photos were taken at some Tony season functions the year that PL was nominated as well as running in New York.  Looking at them now makes me think that maybe its not the suit I abhor so much but the choice of shoes!

Sorry I don't have a bigger one

I am still thrilled about the Chelsea talk being re-scheduled!  I think its going to be an AR filled fall and winter!

Ali-Pat--Glad to hear you're mending.

And Claudia, I'm sure you heard about the dolphins that found their way back home?  npr sept 15

last, here's a translation of the French interview posted by Nadège.

Snape by Rickman

Severus Snape, the pitiless potions master, whose heart seems as black as his clothing, hides many secrets.  What about this enigmatic character?  To learn more, we met the actor who plays him, Alan Rickman.

Severus Snape was born on a January 9.  Have you celebrated his birthday?

That’s all I need.  I already have enough trouble remembering my own. [laughs]  No, seriously, I know it’s quite sad for Snape that no one celebrates his birthday.  Maybe we’ll try to organize something next year.

We’re discovering bit by bit what Snape has experienced in the past.  It seems his teenage years weren’t very easy.

Nor was he very sociable.  Snape never had friends.  Lily Potter tried to be nice to him, but he would not tolerate her pity.  And then with James Potter, Sirius Black and their acolyte Lupin always ridicuing  him, he closed himself even more deeply in his shell.  Snape’s life is more complex than it appears.  He was one of the Deatheaters. Then he turned his coat to join Dumbledore’s side.  His past sticks to him, and with his manner, few people trust him.

He seems to know Igor Karkaroff quite well, Karkaroff who comes to Hogwarts for the Triwizard Tournament.

It’s true that these two know each other well.  But for the sake of those who have not read the book, I can’t speak too much about their relationship .  I wouldn’t want to spoil the suspense.  Well, Snape has so many secrets that he knows a lot people, and not just nice people, of course.  That’s also what’s brilliant, that finally we know so little about him.

Have you received unpleasant remarks from fans?

Actually very few.  What’s fantastic is that, in general, people love Snape.  He’s sarcastic, obtuse, and a lot more.  He’s also fascinating.  I have a great time playing him.  It’s quite pleasurable to play someone so enigmatic.  One never knows what to expect with him, any more than what he is  really thinking.  I don’t even know whether Dumbledore knows him so well.  Only JK Rowling holds the secret.

The filming of GOF ended recently.  What are your plans?

I'm working on the film the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I'm the voice of the android Marvin in this futuristic comedy which is completely mad.  Warwick Davis, Professor Flitwick in the Harry Potter series, plays Marvin. We're keeping it in the family. [laughs]

Hello there,

I truly enjoy your guestbook and visit it everyday. Senorita L., thanks for the picture. Alan really is grey now. Wow, it went really quick. When I met him in December last year (that was very special), I still saw more blond than grey and look at him now.

I also noticed that there are more of you who have to miss their husbands very often. So do I. Oh, those hardworking men. On the other hand, I can really sympathise with Rima, having to miss her Alan so much. He is away from home for a couple of months. I am glad my husband is not an actor (he is a musician and a translator). Well, keep writing (and sending pictures). I really enjoy it. Thanks to all of you.

@Hikity: The term guest list might not be exactly right. But in lack for another expression. Andrea and I are paying like other guests/audience, so there is nothing special about it. The only difficulty is that we won't be able to collect and pay the tickets much in advance. So they (Shared Experience) put us on a guest list, as they called it, and we are going pay for the tickets when we arrive in London.

RickiNicki, hope it's sunny in Black Forest - wonderful area, love it. Well, it seems Rachel is HANGING on His arm all the time, hmm I would, too, I guess.

I found 4 nice pages about  GOF in our TV-magazine with some enjoyable bits about Alan. Maybe I have time tomorrow to translate it...

By chance, I came across a lovely short interview with Alan from earlier this year, where he talks quite a bit about Snape. It's in French, from a French fan site.

Any web page translator, though far from perfect, will still make the interview clear enough overall for those of us unable to speak this beautiful language.

Nevertheless, I'm hoping one of our native French-speaking Rickmaniacs (or anyone else fluent in the language) will give us a more accurate translation.

Here's the URL and the original text:

Voilà, comme promis, l'interview du talentissime (euh, ça se dit pas ?!) Alan Rickman, fans de Severus à vos lunettes !

Rogue by Rickman

Rogue n'a jamais eu d'amis.

Je travaille sur le film The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Je suis la voix de l'androïde Marvin dans cette comédie futuriste complètement déjantée. C'est l'acteur Warwick Davies, le professeur Flitwick dans les Harry Potter, qui joue le rôle de Marvin. Ca reste dans la famille [rires].

I'm so happy to see you back, Ali-Pat!  A speedy recovery to you!  I've missed you.

Wonderful news, Sue!  Minus the tix (although I wouldn't turn them down lol), I'm hoping my mailman is as kind to me today....but more in the nature of $$$$ instead of ££££!  LOL

Lurking L, the folks you sat next to might have just been fans.  I've noticed a small handful of AR fans that kind of sound as if they know AR too and I imagine would give that impression to someone sitting next to them as well.

Its so funny that you mention that "everyone" in LA always thinking a celeb is just around the corner.  I was in LA in 1998 while Sweetie was attending a conference.  I really didn't think much about seeing a celebrity at all but I did insist that Sweetie take me around the city a bit.  I loved it.

Then we went to Anaheim to visit Disneyland.  While we were in line for one of the roller coasters (Sweetie loves roller coasters!), there was this little family in front of us. A man, woman, and a boy around 10 or 11 years old.  I didn't think much about it at all until the woman spoke.  Her voice was unmistakable!  It was the woman that played the receptionist in Moonlighting.  I didn't say anything to them, even though you know how close people are when their in line for a roller coaster!  Anyway, I just looked at her face to confirm it was her and just kept enjoying being with Sweetie (and worrying about the coaster!).

OK, I'll get back to topic.

melissa, I've seen Peter's Friends too.  I agree with Susan, CA in that it has a wonderful cast but I really liked the film.  It was the first time I had seen Stephen Fry in anything.  I hope you will get to see it soon.

Nadege, you have a lovely blog.  I tried to post a couple times and they wouldn't go through. What might I be doing that's wrong?

Now Dee, don't do that with the icecream - that option can become devastating (I know that...always fighting). My husband is so often away (whether Mosambique, Aserbajian or Armenia) that I am always astonished when he is here with me...for some time. Dee, I am going to accompany him to Baku next week. There you get DVDs for next to nothing and right after the UK/USA release. (That's why I have had Hitchhikers for ages). Maybe it makes sense to buy the three HPs for you and send it over? Send me a mail if you want. I absolutely agree with you regarding VHS (although I haven't yet killed spiders with it or thrown it in the loo...)- I prefer them, too. And BTW, our daughter's "pigpen" has eventually changed into something like a decent room - so, don't lose nerves, be patient (hopefully) it will pass by.

Ladies, have a nice day, I have a terrible lot to do today

Dee--your horse icon reminded me of something--although I'm somewhat loathe to share this tidbit.  In Prisoner of Azkaban during the hippogriff scene, right after the class takes a step back and leaves Harry in the front, the computer-generated hippogriff takes a . . . er, geez, well, relieves himself.  This is a little present from the CGA folks who did the movie.  It's somewhat annoying to know, but younger kids (especially boys) find it intriguing.  Now you must get new HP DVDs, eh?

Lurking Lawyer: You were very kind and generous to try to get my daughter that autograph.  Her hopes hadn't been that high, because I told her there might be alot of people, and he might slip out a back door or something.  I told her what I could of your experience, and she had a good "squee."  She's even more obsessed with David Thewlis than I am with AR, which I didn't think possible!!  Thanks again for your trouble,  and I'm glad you had fun!!

Ali Pat -- So glad to hear you're doing well! Let your mom pamper you for a few days and heal fast!

Lurking L -- Loved your story! It sounds like a great night. In that situation, I would have been befuddled too! Thanks for sharing.

I was going to watch a Harry Potter movie tonight, but my teenage son has ruined all three DVDs in the pig wallow he calls a bedroom!! They're all scratched and (for some inconceivable reason) sticky!! Grrr... I know a young man who's going to spend the weekend cleaning his room to work off the cost of new DVDs!

Ya know...DVDs may offer better viewing quality than VHS tapes, but they sure don't hold up as well. You could step on a VHS tape, splash it with wine, smash a spider with it, drop it in the toilet and it would STILL work! Try doing that with a DVD!!

Sorry... My husband can't come home from Urbana this weekend and I'm bummed. I don't know whether to bite nails or just cry. Think I'll drown my sorrows in a carton of Oreo ice cream.

Susan, CA--Yes, I read the same thing (although I thought his daughter's name was Gracie, perhaps I'm wrong.)  He seems very happy with his family.

I sat next to some folks who were talking about "David" as if they knew him.  They said, Man: "David's lost a lot of weight", woman: "what about her?" Man: "I think she has too."  Snort!!!  LA is so weird.  I can't even tell you.  Everyone keeps looking around as if a celeb is right around the corner.  I do know that the man and woman sitting next to me talking about "David" were not at the VIP backstage entrance.

David Thewlis's girlfriend is quite pretty and she reminds me of the old Emma Peel of the Avengers.  Very pretty indeed.

Another HP-GoF trailer is available at Reuters.  Scroll down to the Entertainment section on the left side of the window.  I don't think there is any Snape in it though.  For those of you that want to keep it or can't view it from Reuters, I've captured it for you.

Claudia--
Yes, David Thewlis and his partner Anna Friel (a sensationally talented actress--I really like Our Mutual Friend, now in region 1 DVD as well as region 2, but she's also in Midsummer Night's Dream with Kevin Kline and some lesser projects) just had a daughter named, I think, Grace.  Apparently Thewlis was so thrilled with the notion of becoming a daddy that he quit smoking, turned to natural foods, and lost about twenty pounds.

First time i ever saw David Thewlis was in 7 Years in Tibet with Brad Pitt, then i saw Dragon Heart and then one of my all-time favorite movie that he just happen to be in is Timeline ( trust me, its a great movie). When he got cast as Lupin in the HP POA i was really surprised, and didnt know if i would like him in the role. He has grown on me and i can handle it now, he did a good job with Lupin's character and i look forward to seeing him again in HP 5.

Is it just me or do you look at the trailer differently and think different when you know what happens in book six? I tell you, that is going to be such an emotional scene when it comes to air, specially if Alan is back as Snape. (which i hope he is)

Claudia--The name of the play was "Theater of the New Ear."  Apparently there were other performers in Thewlis's place in the London and New York runs.  Tonight is the last night if any Los Angeles folks are up to the mob scene.  It's 8:00 p.m., Royce Hall, UCLA.

I also wanted to say that Julie from MI sent me a photo of Thewlis so I could attempt to get an autograph for her daughter who is mad for him.  I was more disappointed that I couldn't get the autograph for her daughter than for me.  I feel so bad that I failed!!!

I too would have been starstruck and just smiled at him. I hope if I ever get the cance to meet him (or Alan, or anyone) I get up the courage to get an autograph or at least say hello and shake their hand... I'm such a wuss sometimes. I used to work in a fairly upscale popular restaurant and a few stars had come in while I worked there... and I just stood at the server station and giggled like a dumbass. Even though that was 4-5 yrs ago, I don't think my courage has gotten any better.

Well, I have calmed down a bit since last night's excitement.  Let me see if I can tell you my David Thewlis experience briefly.  When he first came on stage, he was wearing a palish green button-down shirt (not tucked in) and wide bell-bottom blue jeans.  He's kind of lopey when he walks.  His hair was pretty messy and spikey.  He has very nice thighs.

The play was like watching a radio play.  The actors sat on chairs and read from scripts while an orchestra played in the background.  The sound-effects guy was right there too.

I didn't think the play was all that great.  However, David and Jennifer Jason Leigh did enact, er, the act of making love.  Remember, the play is all reading, the actors are not acting, so it was all voices, and well, it was pretty hot to hear David do this.  It was even hot to watch him, and he got pretty loud.  You can use your imaginations.

After the play my friend and I got lost trying to get out of the theater.  (Royce Hall is quite large and has many different corridors.)  We headed down a hall where we noticed an exit sign above a closed door.  There were a couple of other people headed that way so we followed.  As we neared the door, it was opened by an usher, and who the heck is standing right there, not five feet from me and looking right at me but David Thewlis. This was apparently a room where only people "on the list" were allowed to enter.  I saw David greeting friends and he bent over to hug an older red-haired man.  Ach!  He's such a cutey.

Okay, we lingered a bit there, but then went out back to the VIP parking area to wait for him.  There was a small crowd, but it was all big, burly men (and one woman all by herself).  I thought this very odd. At any rate, David finally comes out the back door (and this time he's wearing a green plaid shirt).  All the burly guys start shouting "David!"  "David!" "Autographs?"  David looked kind of confused and started towards his car (a white convertible).  He started to get in, and then got out and looked like he was going to come over and give autographs, when two of the theater parking lot guys hustle him back into his car!!!  The rats!  So, he got back into the car, and backed up at an enormous rate of speed and he backed up right into the little crowd of burly guys and they all have to scatter.  I attributed his bad driving to the fact that he's not used to the steering wheel on the left side.  Snort!!!  It was pretty funny.  The burly guys had tons of glossy photos with them, and one of them said "no Harry Potter tonight!"  I figure they weren't fans but Ebay sellers or something like that.  Losers!!!

I must say it was a memorable night.  Very memorable.  I could have snapped several pictures, but I totally lost my nerve.  I'm telling you, I got a case of the nerves the minute I saw him in that back stage area.  It also felt so intrusive to be chasing him around like that!!  I would make a terrible stalker!

P.S.  If I'd known he was going to do what he did in that play, I would have brought a tape recorder.

I'm not sure AR is going to be on Steve Wright in the Afternoon, just listened to SW going through the list of upcoming guests over the next few weeks/months and the nearest he got was "the stars of Harry Potter" which will be when the film comes out, I assume. Now this could include AR, but doesn't usually.

However, SW did mention Alan Whicker (the original travel show host) so I wonder if there has been a wishful thinking mis-hearing somewhere?

That horloge is nice, Nadège, I added it to my screensaver (huu, full of AR-pics now)

Alba,  read all boring things, you'll never know. Do you have any chance to go to Girona?

Ack!!!!!  I saw the Thewlis play tonight!!!  I didn't get his autograph, but it was quite the evening.  I shall report tomorrow because it is now 1:30 a.m.  Be forwarned, however, that the play was very sexy!!!  Claudia should tell me now whether I'll need to tone it down a bit for the sake of our younger readers!!!  Hot diggity!  Thewlis is hot.

P.S.  I did come face to face with him too after the play!  Oy!

We may have some new pics to look forward to. There is at least one article in the local Girona paper everyday about the filming there (at it hasn't even started yet...dates are 19th-24th), but they're pretty boring, so I don't post the links. Today's is about changing the street lamps which are too modern and where the trucks will park. It's that small of a city that this is a HUGE thing. If AR is filming in Girona, I'm sure (at least hoping) there will be photos and maybe interviews. I'll keep checking.

OK, I know this is totally off topic but I just can't help myself!

I've been following the story of 8 dolphins that were swept out to the Gulf of Mexico by Katrina from The Marinelife Oceanarium in New Orleans.  Amazingly enough, when they went to search for them yesterday, they found all 8 dolphins together!  They were able to catch two of them today--one being the sickest at the moment and take them back home. They hope to be able to "rescue" the other six over the next few days!!!!

Using my new playtoys (thanks to INTJ), I have captures the videos and will share (through YouSendIt) with anyone that's interested.

Dolphin Rescue 1 (09-14-2005)

Dolphin Rescue 2 (09-15-2005)

Now I am not one to actually condone dolphin captivity but when it is the only home they've known for a number of years and its either going back to captivity or die in the wild, I say catch 'em and bring 'em home.

Hi! I havent had a chance to get over here for a while and as I quickly scanned the posts, I saw a bunch of Birthdays, anniversaries etc. Off the top of my head, Happy Anniversary to both Dee and Hikity that recently celebrated anniversaries. A big round od Happy Birthday applause to everyone else that celebrated birthdays and to those that I miised for their anniversary. All the best to you all for the new year..
I was glad to see that the HHGTTG has been released..I'll have to stop at the video store tomorrow and pickl up a copy to watch. I bet AR is really cute as Marvin..
Thanks also to everyone that has contributed photos of AR and also to the people that gave us that great shot of Snape in GOF..
If anyone wants to read a terrific series of books that are a feel good type of story, read the Mitford series. They are so warmhearted but with characters that you feel like you have known all your life. I bet you know of this series Dee as you work in the library. Have you read them? I am only on book two out of a series of perhaps 8 or so. Isnt there some way we could AR to make this into a movie??? (Hint Hint)
off to attack some laundry and dustbunnies!!! Will try to get back again soon. Take care, Pam

Lauren -- I wasn't able to see the trailer until your download link. Thanks you so much! Squeeeee!! The film's special effects look fabulous (the ship coming out of the water - awesome!)!  And SNAPESNAPESNAPESNAPESNAPE!!! Count me a member of the dork club!!

Sue - That first B&W photo is the one I used in my Adam and Eve manipluation!

Glad folks are enjoying my Famous ARt! I do have a ball creating them! I wonder what AR would think of my growing collection of manipulated paintings? He's an artist. Would he get a chuckle out them or be totally appalled? In all honesty, I wouldn't want to do something he found insulting...

Claudia, I've been watching Rome also and I agree with you! I wondered if AR was asked to do a part in that production. He would have been great, but I'm glad for the projects he has done (Snow Cakes & Perfume) and can't wait to see them!

Getting back to the Lindsay Duncan interview once more.  I have been watching Rome on HBO the last couple of weeks and I must say that it really is an extraordinary production.  The script, sets and costumes are fantastically authentic and the acting of LD, Ciaran Hinds, and Polly Walker are just what I have grown to expect from them.....perfect.

Sorry, but I just needed to blow Rome's horn for just a bit.

Hi Another Lurker! Welcome to our group!  Please join us as often as you can.  Also, thanks to you and Daydreamer for the GoF trailer screen caps.

Thanks for the link to the GoF trailer, Julia!  I thought the trailer wouldn't be out until tomorrow??? Oh well, I'm not going to argue with a day early!  LOL  Miranda Richardson looks like one tough lady, doesn't she?

Good work on the .mov file of the trailer, Lauren!  And here's the .wmv version.

HP-GoF Trailer 1 .wmv

Whoa!  At 4 this morning, I completely missed Dee's new piece of ARt!  I'm with Daydreamer in the unsettled department today.

sru!    After just completing my annual doctor's visit this morning and being told "its all a part of getting older.....", I can't tell you how perfect the timing of the Lindsay Duncan interview is! Thanks for the link, Sue.  "SAGA" *snort*

Ohhh my, I've just realized that I have not had one speck of today's news and hey....it feels good! LOL

Another Perfume extra has posted on IMDb:

"Hello imdb people!

I have been an extra during a week in the Barcelona's shooting of Perfume: Story of a murderer.

I want to say this movie will be just amazing, and probably THE 2006' MOVIE. The director, Tom Tykwer, is doing an extraodinary work, joining without any problem Steven, the photography director.

Then we have the actors. I saw an scene with Alan Rickman (who's character is Richis, I don't know wths Antoine) and Ben Wishaw (Grenouille). We know Alan Rickman, but is doing probable his best. And about Ben Wishaw, it's a greatfull revelation, really talented actor.

I was helping somebody on lj look for a signed B&W pic of AR and found these two.

The first is my all-time fave pic of him and the one I got signed at the last PL:

and the other is an old favourite which I prefer in B&W to colour.

My younger son just called me into watch Newsround as the GOF trailer was on it. I told him I'd seen it already but they seemed to show lots more bits and pieces including a birds-eye view of the Quidditch stadium and a close up of the KKK-like deatheaters at the campsite. He said it looked crap but that's what I would expect from a 15 yeat old!LOL

the file is a Quicktime .mov file, and is 33.4 MB, so dial-up is not the way to go... but i felt bad for those of you who can't get to it. ITS SO AWESOME!!!

so go download it already!!!
