He was VERY thin for quite a while. I bet it was just his natural build during his younger years. I found the below picture at Rickmanparadise and I was SHOCKED at how insanely skinny he looked....almost...hate to say it...concentration camp skinny...not well at all. I think I could wrestle him down in that condition!

Alfan, there's a great site:

A couple that I've always liked are: "If" by Bread and "For All We Know" by The Carpenters. I really do love your choices that you picked. Is there any particular artist or song that you & Keith like?

Well if I was in your shoes, I'd pick something that has a deeper meaning to both of me and my boy toy..uh..sorry, I meant future husband. Do you two have a special song? I'd go with that, even if it talks about potato donuts. Umm, yeah, that was random. Otherwise, I'd go with #2, it's a feel-good song. Too bad you can't get Bill Nighy to sing it.

Oh and speaking of Bill Nighy, you guys HAVE to see The Girl In The Cafe, it's such a sweet film and both him and Kelly MacDonald are great! Oh and it's directed by David Yates. I think he'll do a very nice job with HP5, if you ask me.

Cheers and have a lovely...er..what day is it? And where's my coffee?

Ok, my friends, this is where i need your help. I need you to help pick me a wedding song. I have a few choices but am so willing to hear others. SO far I have these for my choices ( do you notice a little Alan Rickman influence in a couple of these?

 1)   From this Moment by Shania Twain

2) Love is all Around by Wet Wet Wet

3) Everything I do, I do if for you by Brian Adams

4) I Cross my Heart by George Strait

5) I Do by Paul Brant

6) Truly Madly Deeply by Savage Garden

7) Endless Love by Lionol Ritchie and Diana Ross

8) Because you loved me by Celine Dion

9) To Much Heaven by the Bee Gees

10) I Swear by John Michael Montgomery

11) Love in Unconditional by George Strait

12) Waiting for You by Richard Marx

Im tending towards #1 or # 10 for Keith and I first dance and the second dance with everyone #2, but I also love #3. OMG! I so need help, does anyone have any others.

Oh and another AR influence, we are walking down the isle to Pachebel Canon in D major.... its such a beautiful song.

gosh, me thinks me need a drink.

Dan Radcliffe is going to be starring in an ITV drama called, "My Boy Jack" according to www.danradcliffe.co.uk . It will begin shooting in the summer of 2007. He plays the son of Rudyard Kipling. Busy little wizard, isn't he?

I read (don't know if it's correct, but I think it is), that there's no "Weasley is our King" storyline in the OOTP movie, hence, no Quidditch shown.

Thank you guys for the wishes, so kind. And we are thinking of a late May or early June wedding so yes, our trip to NY and the eastern coast will be our honeymoon. I would love to see the play if it is still there next year  and Keith knows all about MNIRC or his new one with Lindsey and hell, even knows about Alan being a buff sleeper. But if I cant see that then of course I will see my all time favorite "Phantom of the Opera".

Chris, you always make me laugh!

That 'reaction' word did look like an euphemism (?).
Eeeeh... but you got the idea!

Agreed with you, Jan, that's what I thought was the main idea of the book, the power of scents over the other human senses. Probably they just changed the (oh my, here I go again) *reactions* a little bit but the idea would be still the same.

Since the weekend is nearly over... Nice week to you Hikity!

I just found some information that goes under the heading of the most useless minutia you ever wanted to know about him: He has purchased, in the past, a brand of furniture called "Old Java Teak" furniture for his home (very expensive)...

someone a month or so back translated something from a German Forum where a member (fussel) talks about standing in front of Alan's house.
(something like.... he were standing at one of those huge windows and looking out at the street before he turned away.....everywhere in his living room are lamps and junk...)
*snort*

huge windows, huh?

ARdentJan, that's exactly what TT says that Richis is the only one who threatens Grenouille and that therefore AR's character is a kind of balance in the film ( and in the book, of course), a character which only our Man can do so well, hmmmhmmhmm

I fear, however, as I stated on the GB at the end of the summary I posted some days ago, that they might have changed the end (and we all know that there is such a gruel end faithful to the book) as one of the German reviewers (and fanatic of the book) already feared weeks ago (he saw the preview in Munich -and posted a really long review in German) that they would cut the end due to the American cinema-goers, arrrghh. I am going to ask TT about it.

Nahima, both the German and the English version of The Perfume miraculously disappeared - I searched for an hour yesterday and I am going to check again in a minute. I can't ask TT something I did not read thoroughly (the problem is that we have masses of books everywhere). There is still the exam looming over me

Wish you all a great weekend

ARdent
8/25/06 at 04:33 PM

Comments:

It does sound like they've changed Richis quite a bit and made him more important in a way. In the book, I did get the feeling that he was the only real threat to Grenoille and even thought for a while that he was going to "get" him.

But Richis' *cough* "reaction" *cough* to his daughter  made him seem a bit weaker, though he resisted. It seems to me that Richis' "reaction" to Grenoille is essential to get across what seems to be the whole point of the story . . . the power of scent on the human psyche. Or did I miss the point??? If they did change that, I agree that it would be interesting to learn why.

Chris: That icky end will probably be what they leave as it is!

Chris
8/25/06 at 03:14 PM

Comments:
Nahima, is THAT how they call it now, a 'reaction', eh? Personally I would have liked for them to remain faithful to the story but I can't say the sam thing about that one bit at the ending. EESH! Makes my skin crawl.

Comments:

Nahima, yes, it's on 2 September. We won't see the film but "the making of" - I cannot possibly read the book again, no time, nooo, need to learn for the oral exam now, but I try to find out about Richis by skimming through the bood..thanks and lovely weekend,

Nahima
8/24/06 at 07:37 PM

Comments:
Dear Hikity, don't know if I'm still on time but there's something about the 'Perfume' movie that got my attention and maybe it can be transformed into a reasonable question for the Q & A thingy.

It's regarding AR's role, apparently 'Richis' is portrayed as a very protective father but it is said nothing about his not so fatherly feelings. Seems to me they changed that from the character, if this is confirmed, it would be interesting to know why.
IMO, those odd feelings were relevant to understand later 'Richis' reaction with 'Grenouille' near the end of the story.
(Unless, of course, they changed that too.)

Good luck Hikity and, btw, I do not mind to be spoiled about the movie!

And now, the reason I haven't been able to post for a while:  Finished the run of my show last month, and a week later recieved a call to audition for a big movie that's being filmed here in Pittsburgh!  Whoo hooo!  So, I looked it up, and found out it has the smallest of Alan connections:  It's supposed to star Max Minghella, son of Anthony, director of Truely, Madly, Deeply!!!!!  A small connnection, I know, but hey, it's the closest to Alan I've ever been!  Hehehehe.  So, I had my audition on Monday, got called back Tuesday...it was down to me and two other girls...so now I'm just waiting for a phone call.  So cross your fingers for me!

Ok, thus ends my selfish boasting.  I hope every one is having a wonderful summer, and good luck to all of you AR heads who are following him to all his Q and A's and premires  I wish I could come too!

Hiya, morning everybody - here I am after finally finishing my written exam (and I had a lot of red wine yesterday evening, called Peek on the mobile for an hour and booked 2 seats for my daughter and me for 5 September in that Everyman Cinema and haven't got either flight nor accom...)

Thanks Pam for that lovely King Richard Site. Don't forget, our Man was also the opponent once,

Laura and Nahima, thanks for the pics and links. The video from Tiscali is much clearer (I watched it with Window Player) than the one from Claudia, however, there is no interview with AR - pity. Doesn't he look great?? The "announcer in the Tiscali clip is Jamie Weir - isn't that one of 2 guys from Love Actually (the TVinterview with BN)?

It has a little bit of AR at the beginning but, as always, I'm not able to watch it properly.
It freezes all the time   so I'm not sure if it's a new one or the same Claudia captured earlier today from another place.

I agree,  Pam www.kingrichardsfaire.net  is one of the best sites for seeing what goes on at faires here in the 'States.  Or...  we can watch, and/or re-watch  the King of the Hill  "Joust Like A Woman" episode which features Alan Rickman as King Richard.

Geneva, Ohio had a faire the past two weekends.  As always it was a huge success. There were vehicles in the parking lot from as far away as Virginia to the South, and Iowa to the West.

One vendor had a booth featuring witches and warlocks...  with a potions master who didn't compare to our favorite one, but did a good job brewing up some of the foulest-smelling, yet visually pleasant potions you'd ever want to sample.

Those of you in the UK are fortunate that you can visit castles and other architecture from that period of existence, whenever you get the urge.

Hikity, we don't have Renaissance Fairs as such here. I guess because we have so much history we don't feel the need to recreate it all the time! I know some castles hold shows where you might get jousting or something on a Bank holiday. Also we have The Sealed Knot Society who go to shows and re-enact battles from the Civil War (the English one!!)

Also in general Brits aren't too keen on getting dressed up en masse!LOL (We keep it private)

Yes they are pretty wrinkled but as long as they play "Painted Black" i will be happy.

Hi guys-Emly-why was I mentioned? Dont know what you are talking about. I never did anything to you but as I name was mentioned thought I would reply. As for games, I have none..
Hikity-as to the message about the Renaissance fair, It is an old fashioned Medieval fair that is in different parts of the country where participants wear long cloaks and watch renaissance games such as jousting etc. and watch medieval singers/dancers.
I went to my first one last year.
Emily, may we please get back to the subject???? Thanks-Whenever I post under Pam you always give me a hard time too-why???? What did I ever do wrong???? As the old saying goes-do undto others as you would wanty done unto you.

Its funny that all this talk of Keef Richards going on that on Oct 8th I will be seeing the Stones as they ihibit our humble little town of 230 000 people. And not only once but twice, we are the only ones to get a second concert. The first one sold out in 20 minutes and when they heard that they went so fast they put on another one for Oct 6th and that one sold out in 1 1/2 hrs. So, has anyone out there seen them, are they worth the 200 dollar tickets, as i think they are. And now I wont be able to look at Keith Richards the same way, i mean Alan would of had to do some MAJOR de-beautifying if you ask me.

Kevin Smith told Jason that they have the actor Alan Rickman signed, and Jason said " who the f-ck is that" and Kevin said " Hans f-ckin Gruber man!". Jason said oh, and Kevin said that he had to know his stuff, this guy is a classicly trained actor and he will chew you up if you dont have your parts down, you gotta know your stuff with this dude".

Later on Kevin had a reading of the script and Jason showed up without one and Kevin asked whats up,where is his script and Jason said he didnt need it as he knew his lines. So Kevin tested him and Jason knew his lines, and he said he knew everyone elses lines too. Kevin said ok, so he started reading Jason's lines and Jason was saying everyone elses lines too. Kevin was amazed, he said " thats f-ckin amazing, whats up with that? Jason responded, that he didnt want to piss off that Rickman dude.

And they got along famously, they even hung out outside of shooting.........what a pair. Jason Mews and Alan Rickman.  I wonder if Alan recieved one of the genital shots of Jason?

Carolyn-- LOL! Thanks for that snippet. "Alan f***ing Rickman" Oh yeah! "He will go balistic if he smells blood in the water." These are great! And though I think Kevin is sort of joking...I bet Al wouldn't get too far off that mark if he felt like he was really paired up with a lazy jerk! "Jay" must be a little bit smarter than what he appears cause frankly that has to take work to look that dumb. And to manage to put the F-word into a sentance that many times.

Although who here does not get a big tingle when you hear Alan say the F-word???

I don't know if anyone has seen this, but I found Kevin Smith's blog and he has an entry about our guy before they started shooting "Dogma". He had a one-on-one line rehearsal with Jay Mewes (Jay&Silent Bob) right after they picked the movie location:

"For months, I'd impressed upon him the importance of learning all of his lines in advance, as this time around, we were gonna have real actors in the flick..."

'What, like Ben Affleck?' Mewes asked.

"I said REAL actors," I corrected. "Like Alan Rickman."

'Who's that?'

"The guy from 'Die Hard'."

'Bruce Willis?'

"No, man, the other guy."

'The 'Yippie-kay-ay guy?' Jay asked.

"That's Alan Rickman", I said.

'What's so special about him?'

"He's British. And Brits invented acting. So he won't put up with any of your 'snootchie bootchies' bs. He'll tear you up if you're not excellent, because he's Alan ----ing Rickman. So you've gotta know all your lines. This is serious-because Rickman will go ballistic if he smells blood in the water. You've gotta come correct."

That must have been a hilarious movie shoot.

Merriam-Webster says

a contest used to select a winner from among contestants with tied scores at the end of a previous contest

Am I right if I interpret it that way, that I have to send in the solution of the quiz and add an anagramm (I created myself), just in case there is more than one person with the right answers?

Okay, let me get this straight, based on your comments AR's new family would be like this:

Hikity = mother-in-law
Chris and Peek = wife and partner or both wives (?) Something is not right here...
Jan = Chris' daughter
Soooo this solves the mess because Jan needs a father!

Again...

Hikity = mother-in-law (checked)
Chris = wife (checked until Peek fights back)
Jan = daughter (checked)

Sh*t... all main positions are taken.

Well, I can be the doggie! Jan is going to need one and AR surely likes them.

I told someone recently that if I don't make it and you hear of some little tyke who loves HP, has a precocious taste in films (Dark Harbor, Close My Eyes), and meets Alan Rickman, crawls up in his lap and asks him read to her . . . that's me in my next life!

I think the opinion JKR refers to is:

Quote:
Our theory is that Snape is, in fact, still a good guy.
and
Quote:
That this is, in fact, a ruse, cooked up between DD & Snape to put Voldemort off his guard. Harry will then have more friends than he knows when he & V do face
since those are the only statements that look like an opinion other than that DD is not dead, and she put that to rest.

The ruse possibly being, as Nahima suggested over at my GB, Snape "put a stopper in death" for DD before, so he was going to die anyway soon, Snape's Avada Kedavra could have released DD from his suffering and also fooled Voldemort at the same time???

Carolyn

Comments:

OK, ladies, first off, let me just say I am firmly in the "Snape is good" camp, without a doubt! However, as far as Jo's comments are concerned, there could be some ambiguity. The actual question Salman Rushdie asked was:

"It has always been made plain that Snape might be an unlikeable fellow, but he was essentially one of the good guys. (massive cheering) DD himself has always vouched for him. Now, (unintelligible) Snape is a villain & DD is killed. We cannot, or don't want to believe this (cheers & laughter). Our theory is that Snape is, in fact, still a good guy. We propose that DD can't really be dead. That this is, in fact, a ruse, cooked up between DD & Snape to put Voldemort off his guard. Harry will then have more friends than he knows when he & V do face. So, is Snape good or bad? (massive cheering) It's plain to see, everything follows from this."

Jo replied (with some squirming around in her chair), "Your opinion, I would say, is right. However, I see I am going to have to be more explicit & say DD is definitely dead."

The above was from www.hpana.com. Now, the question is: was she replying just to the part of the question that said DD can't really be dead, or was she, in fact, also answering the questions of: 1. Was it a ruse between DD & Snape and/or 2. Is our Severus really a good guy, through and through?

Hubby just told me about Mel having been completely drunken and this I found today from "The official London Theatre Guide:

This week:

It has been a magical week for the West End. The wizard and witches of Wicked began rehearsals for the Broadway hit's transatlantic transfer, while Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe also hit the headlines. Radcliffe and Harry Potter co-star Richard Griffiths were confirmed to appear in a new production of Peter Schaffer's play Equus, which will be directed by Thea Sharrock in spring 2007.

Sharrock's current production, A Voyage Round My Father, which stars Derek Jacobi as an eccentric, intelligent barrister who loses his sight, will transfer to the Wyndham's in September. Intergalactic voyager Colm Meaney, who was a regular in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Next Generation, was unveiled as the actor who will play Phil Hogan opposite Kevin Spacey and Eve Best in A Moon For The Misbegotten at the Old Vic.

Elsewhere, a London stage return has been announced for Michael Ball, who will appear in the ENO production of Kismet next June, and the Trafalgar Studio 2 has released its autumn/winter schedule.

At officiallondontheatre we've enjoyed The Pirates Of Penzance, The Comedy Of Errors, The Vegemite Tales and Exiles, and have found time to shoot the breeze with 70s/80s pop star David Essex and 90s/00s pop star Jon Lee.

Yeah, Hikity, the truth is you`d also need a gigantic printer for really good results. Hmm...but think of it this way, you could do your own customized AR bed sheets! It` official, I` starting to lose it. ...

Yeah, Hikity!!! Happy belated birthday!!! Hope some wishes were fulfilled and some left open for dreaming!

And Sevvy, I am still alive, but always running around. More busy during the holidays than usual it seems *lol*

And erm, Hikity, could I please BUY your hubby??? He seems to be a miracle man ...  How did he get his fingers on something that is not to be found anywhere yet??? What is his secret??? Hey, I would even learn how to cook a decent meal for him  Teeheeheee. Honestly, thanks for sharing TEH poster.
